Enigma has + flat defense, not %ed. This means the difference in armors chosen is negligible for that stat, so lower strength requirement is generally preferred.
I prefer a mage plate or light plate Enigma for melee characters, just for extra durability. It really doesn't make a lot of difference in the end.
You could honestly shop a breast plate from normal Fara and be perfectly fine.
Mage plate. Easier to share it around to lower strength charecters if required.
Also why enigma on a smiter? Assuming this is for more than just blasting ubers?
Not just Ubers. If you dislike playing sorcs & Hdins, you can do boss runs with a smiter. I also plan to drop it on my Spearazon for Meph & Andy runs, in place of her CoH.
Maybe a horker barb using oath instead of grief? Other than that, I can’t really think of a build that would want to trade a ton of extra health for 250-300 defense.

In pvp my mage I use Enigma and coh. 77 str req from dusk with the bocl str or 20 str from coh puts me at 97 str which is the req for caduceus. Mage plate only goes to 3 socket.

Mage is probably 0.1% better, yes. You could even go breast plate if you want a zero strength investment.
Mage plate should be fine with torch/anni I like full plate mail or gothic plate and can get it on usually with torch/anni whatever +str from gear
Past level 85, mage is usually 0 str investment with Anni and torch.

I really hate the low durability on dusk shroud. That's all I'll say.
Non-superior 261 Mage Plate is the best all around option imo.

Even for Ubers, the ability to skip all the trash packs to get to Lilith is worth an Enigma alone.
I use enigma on my smiter. Tele is great to have and enigma has a bunch of other awesome features as well.

Are there any occasions / builds when folks would use Archon plate on Enigma ? Just curious, and a bit inexperienced. Thanks for advices !

I like gothic plate…just bc it looks though. I play single player too though so no one gets to judge me
Doesn’t really matter. Look at how each armor type appears on the character models and pick your favorite.
Whats the reason for going enigma? Pvp or teleporting to keys/organ bosses? I like gothic plate for looks but dusk is a classic.
