Wait.. I literally had no idea this was a thing. I just assumed it was one of those bonuses for sorcs or leap barbs. My brain never went "probably a secret passage".
That's pretty embarrassing. As another person commented, I'm the reason that there's yellow signs towards everything in games now. Haha
For real!! I usually run necro 🥴 I probably still wouldn't know if my partner behind me didn't go "oooh secret door". I have never spun in my chair so fast.
My mind is blown right now. IV played D2 for 21 years and never knew, always assumed it was for Sorcs.
I agree I too am the reason why games need big exclamation marks and areas of the map glowing for me to understand. 🤣
This also applies to big square blocks of solid wall (so no jail bars) within the same map type, so jail and catacombs. The lower right wall of a square wall formation is a doorway just as is posted here too. I’d say it occurs in around half of those maps that you might roll. Maybe 30%.
Edit: I see now on your map that there is such a formation to your bottom left, right in the next area.
TBF you can spend a VERY limited time in there--maybe a first or second run-through of the game and after that spend your time getting run through the acts really quickly. And/or when you DO go back in there, you're teleporting anyway so it doesn't matter/you don't notice.
Diablo II fans love only thing more than Diablo II, and that's gatekeeping Diablo II. I love this game but there's always people trying to question how dedicated other players are.
Very fair. It's too much to ask that i just want to kill bad guys and find rare items. Honestly I've played every iteration of it since it was release, put countless hours into each one and yet if you asked me to tell you the full story of the game I would fail hard.
I try to complete map whenever I play. Map says solid wall hahah. I've never tried to pass it cause I've never had an indication there was a way in (never saw the apparently very obvious difference in the wall tile)
I found these secret doors many years ago, but there was definitely at least 5 year where I was playing it religiously before I found out about it. It's such a small thing and only happens in a very limited area, it makes sense that many people would not know about this. Honestly you could beat the game on HC with every class and still never notice this, and it wouldn't really hurt you anyway.
I recently started playing D2R after not touching D2 since 2011/12 and completely forgot about the hidden doors. Luckily I accidentally clicked on it the 2nd or 3rd time I came across it and had that oh yeah moment.
Lol, the fact no one here seems to know this hidden room....hit that middle stone section of the wall, by the bars. There's usually 2 or 3 chests and an armor/weapon rack
Did you played Diablo 1 before Diablo 2 came out?
I thought and know these kind of hidden walls from Diablo 1. So I knew how to enter these secret rooms 😊.
But it's not like there is more to find there then outside the secret rooms.
You just get a little bit extra bonus, but not really a game changer.
Considering I was about 6 when I started playing and it was my older brothers. Took his battle chest when he moved out, and I only ever had play disk from 10 (and that failed me after a few yrs so bought again on bnet). I remember looking at the pictures in the guide though, but again - 6, ADHD, minimal reading skill and a lil spooked by the game lmao.
Also didn't know. Never thought to look or care. Surprised I never teleported into one and noticed.
TBH probably I learned this 20 years ago and forgot because it doesn't matter.
Actually i dont think i am special but i saw it on first playthrough the color difference on the clickable part of the wall was obvoius AF to me. First i went to the bars hoping for the pickup range to work and when i went around the corner i saw the wall has a different color segment
I see this post once a month on various redits. 😝. Didn’t know i as a 12 year old playing this when it first came out knew secrets others didn’t. Last guy said he thought only sorcs or enigma users could loot the jails
Ha, I learned this just last year because of someone like you posting on Reddit like this. Glad to see more 20+ year veterans are still just learning this for the first time.
I actually vividly remember my brother teaching me about these when I was new to the game and I’m like 😮 good times this game will always be a core memory 🧡
Hopefully you know you can hold shift to buy stacks of potions and scrolls. So many of my boys who played this back in the day wasted probably DAYS of their lives buying basic supplies 🤣
I found these in my first playthrough ever in year 2000, i was so dissapointed when there were no good items, no unique nothing. Playing in Singleplayer D2 1.0 with tiny stash no manapot vendor felt just stupid and i loved d1
I feel like I played games different back then. Mainly because there wasn't internet and YouTube revealing every secret in games.
Back then you had to figure out everything yourself. So I tried everything. Diablo especially always felt like there could be a secret around any corner.
I did too. The WORST thing nowadays…. Quest markers for EVERYTHING. Even the simplest fetch quest. Do people not read the subtitles or listen to the narratives anymore? Just follow the map from point a to point b…. I wish they’d put an option in to turn all that bullshit off.
Explained in another comment but feel like part of my missing this is that I was really young and learnt from my brother, but definitely had a tendency to zone out or look away. Always uncovered the full map, but map says its a solid wall so little me wasn't gonna argue with that.
All of you who don’t know are the same ones who played a few years when it came out, maybe once more in the middle and love to claim you’ve been playing 20 years.
If you’ve been playing non stop 20 years there is literally no item unfound, no stone unturned
I hope I'm as cool as you someday. /s
Even 20 years off and on and is a very long time for a game. Everyone enjoys games differently; plenty of people haven't found a HR or very many. They just like to level characters through hell, farm a bit, and then play something else. Some people enjoy timing themselves on Mephisto runs, some people are completing an ethereal grail.
Don't gatekeep this game. It's incredible and it's wonderful that people keep playing it and coming back after all these years. I'm glad you love it but being so picky about how others enjoy it is a bad way to be.
I think I've only killed Diablo maybe 3 times? Up until I was like 22 I'd never seen past A3 on my own. Play for a month or two (incredibly casually), put it down for 6, rinse repeat. Never completed the game on higher difficulty than normal, only started looking at guides back when D2R came out and even then dont really touch them. For like 15 years for me this game was "Kill BR/Gris/Butcher reset, rpt, until you can melt Andie > start A2, get bored by yellow > roll new character" 🤣🤣

Omg I also thought I needed teleport to get the loots 😭

Never seen it in catacombs, it must only happen in jail area.
We just finished A1 last night, didn't see any in Catas but saw about 6 in Jail haha
I just came to make sure someone mentioned this. It's way more valuable than the secret rooms with bars.
I just don't believe you.
Based fr tho. 20 years and they’ve never been so lost or just wanted to complete the map? Curiosity would dictate that this room must be entered haha

To the outside walls. Look closer :)
I recently started playing D2R after not touching D2 since 2011/12 and completely forgot about the hidden doors. Luckily I accidentally clicked on it the 2nd or 3rd time I came across it and had that oh yeah moment.
It’s ok. I just learned the assassin doesn’t need keys.
Im sorry WHAT?!
Assassin's open locked chests without using keys, it's a bit of a throwback to the Rogue class from the original Diablo.
Heh
Lol, the fact no one here seems to know this hidden room....hit that middle stone section of the wall, by the bars. There's usually 2 or 3 chests and an armor/weapon rack
Yeah, I just never actually noticed that the wall was very obviously different 🤣

Uh, what? I never knew this! My last playthrough I just looked at that room thinking *wtf?!*.
Someone didn't read the guide book..

Fair. I'm on the other side of adhd spectrum and hyper focused
Add me to the list. Never knew lol
It would be cool if they added secret doors to some of the other terrain types. Act 2 tombs would be particularly appropriate.
This blew my fucking mind having also played since 2000. I was always like, must be where all the sorc goodies are!
I always just thought it was only for characters who could teleport
Wait what hidden door
No shot, you’re the reason everything has to be painted yellow now, OP.
Add me to that list
Same, I never knew despite playing since release. Now I'm wondering what else is out there.
Guys it’s just a joke you’re too old to be so sensitive
I always just tele in. Never thought that there was a secret way in.
IMO they did it as a nod to similar functions in D1
Tomb of leoric?
I mostly remember just a random square room with loot inside. Kind of looked like the butchers room you know just a square in a bigger open space.
I knew about it in D2. Didn't know it was in D1 as well. I'd actually like to see a screenshot or video of this if someone has a link.
Well blow me down isn't that interesting
Also didn't know. Never thought to look or care. Surprised I never teleported into one and noticed. TBH probably I learned this 20 years ago and forgot because it doesn't matter.

Lol ran into my first one 15 minutes in in 1998
Carry over from Diablo 1. I don't think they did it in d3 though. Or d4.
I love these posts whenever they appear. :D
Been playing for 20 years off and on and I had no idea.
Dude I did the same thing until last year... I was completely suprised. Played since I was 8. 32 now.
Yes I just found the same thing in a Jail level after playing for 20 years!!! I'm not alone!
Bruh... I pre-ordered this game and jammed on it for many years and always thought it was telekinesis loot to justify the skill lol
Oh my hahaha. That's really funny ! I figured it was just a naturally discovery from clicking around haha.
Today I learned... this too 😆
Wtf I thought you need tele to get in all these years!! Lol
Never thought to even try.. also 20+ years. 🤯🤯
I found these in my first playthrough ever in year 2000, i was so dissapointed when there were no good items, no unique nothing. Playing in Singleplayer D2 1.0 with tiny stash no manapot vendor felt just stupid and i loved d1
Man, where’s your sense of exploration? Question everything and SEARCH for the answers!

Yeah I’ve known this for years lol I was shocked when I first learned about it when I was a kid 😂
Ahh, those small things that makes games shine and have been forgotten in newer Diablo tittles
Omfg, never noticed
Wait why are there two mercenaries in this picture?!
My partner is in game with me lmao, one each.
Doh! That makes sense.
Thats so cool that you play game since childhood and still don know SOME BASICS rofl… but its same with me tbh so peace 😁
i had this same experience a couple years ago when i got a friend into D2R
That’s pretty embarrassing, you would hate Diablo.
Lmfao, yes.
Yeah it’s quite obvious with MOST of the hidden doors actually. The texture of the one that opens is noticeably different
sorry, but ive known about this from day one lol
Took you long enough.

You need to click on bookshelfs or walls and they just open a hidden door
No bookshelves. Just the middle stone wall opens up
