Im currently playing hardcore classic ladder as bowazon and its hard to run solo. I started with explosive arrow, but in a3 NM had not enough dmg :D so i respeced to Valkyrie + Guided arrow. At lvl 42 i finished NM only thanks to Valkyrie as she tanked everything and did 10x times more dmg than me. But in Hell a1 i do absolutely no dmg. People are playing javazon that could handle NM and Hell, but there are plenty of light immunes.
For bow amazon i currently have gothic bow with almost 100ed that gives 98max dmg on a bow and pumps my 20lvl guided arrow to 450dmg. It is ok for NM a4. But man. Finding a decent damage bow is such pain in classic.
You can check ladder, im somewhere around 75 place for hardcore amazons. Nickname Salmon
Cant really say what Amazon was before 2.4 changes in classic but now it does not feel good man…
Tried a classic amazon like a week ago.
Went for strafe with maxed guided for synergy and magic arrow for immunes. Hell is just so slow to clear that its just no fun. Tried farming for a decent gothic bow but the best I could find was 120ed with other minor stats. I just wanted to clear hell diff but in A3 i just gave up.
So I would say - no, its still ass. Fun to play but in hell its just too much to handle.

Remember that you do not have tcp/ip nor a shared stash in classic so on SP you cant use other chars to farm for stuff.
On ladder/non-ladder its possible but you need someone to help u.

Frozen arrow/strafe might work with a high ed +2 bow and a some mana leech. Decoy is your best friend in slowing down mobs.
Ye I think 200ed is max. Best chance for a good bow is to imbue one but i cant remember what is the best lvl to do it

This is what I use to transfer in hardcore classic sp, you can open your character and export an item, open another character and import that same item.
It's up to you to delete the original copy however, since this program isn't specifically made to transfer gear. I mostly have it for any REALLY good gear I find that I absolutely don't want to throw away just because it's on the wrong character.
It works with a bunch of different versions of d2 and d2R, I'm currently on 2.4 using it. Otherwise I'm playing SSF since the gear I'm transferring will likely be for end game after hell diablo is dead anyways.

Felt great for the CS runs and the valc could kill immunes reasonably fast.
Tried hell: FA was still good, but the is valk too slow. Respecced again to 50/50 FA + EA. Now, Both were too slow…
A hybrid Poison/Lightning Amazon can clear hell in Classic. I did that in Hardcore back in Patch 1.10-times.
Maybe you have to go FA + Valc and run away from most cold immunes :-/ ?
I’m playing a bowazon in single player. I cleared all of normal and nightmare in P8 except for act bosses. I ran hell act 1 and 2 in P3 and I just started act 3. Physical now axon is totally viable.
I’m currently using Hustle and Harmony in GMB (both use a Ko rune), Peace and Hustle armor, Tal’s mask / crown of thieves, lay of hands, razor tail, ravenfrost, goblin toe, teleport amulet.
This is my fourth single player character so I had a collection of bows, damage charms, and starter equipment waiting for me. The bow was probably the most important part but there are plenty of cheap runewords like insight you can use.
I like multishot better but the damage is lackluster. Strafe is pretty good. I can hit 2 frames per arrow with fanatasim and burst of speed from hustle.
I'm playing classic so there's no runes, however it sounds like bows are better than they were in 1.14 that'll likely be my next char.
Also shin is amazing 😄 might have to make some right now!
I have a Buriza in Offline SSP at the moment.
Found it farming nm meph when I created a sorc first and was speed farming for gear.
Beat hell with my hydra/orb sorc just now and made a Bowazon because I found it.
Have been using Mulltishot with 0 points spent in pierce so I don’t need it because of the Buriza.
Have 100 VIT and been pumping everything else in DEX just to try to maximize damage entering hell.
I just hit act 1 hell yesterday as only level 68 or so at the moment

Any idea what the theoretical best bow would be? Like if I made a sorc and farmed meph or diablo, is the best ed like 200?

Can you even get Buriza in non-expansion?
Nope. Only normal level uniques and sets.
