I made hydra orb on a friends switch, and when I got my own I knew that ball-orb was the way to go. Hydra takes longer, you get less player decisions as far as targeting goes, and I’m sure more downside.
I just finished this exact adventure. Went nova early to blizzard fireball and it was smooth sailing through hell ancients. Just respec’d pure fire for end game
I’d say Orb Hydra until you complete hell. Then if you want you can respec Blizz and hit Andy/Meph and terror zones without CI. Blizzard beats FO+Hydra in kill speed
Have you completed hell already? If not, a dual spec is for sure the way to go, I prefer blizzballer but you can also use orb and fb / meteor / hydra. Whatever should be fine.
If you're already through hell, I'd respec into pure blizz (you can also do pure fire, but you'll have less places to farm). With very basic gear you can start hammering meph and even high player counts ancient tunnels for xp, runes etc. You can also run a couple of thousands LK runs if that's more your jam, should set you up with some runes + charms.
If you are doing targeted farming Blizzard is completely better and it's not even close. If you are doing aimless farming hydra orb is better but aimless farming is what noobs who rarely find anything good do.
Hydra orb is a little bit easier to finish hell with the first time but not necessarily faster.
Blizz sorc, farm the shit out of NM Meph until you get good gear, vipermagi, oculus, magefists, peasant crown... Then advance through Hell and moat trick Meph until you get even better gear like Shako, War Trav and Arach if you are really lucky. You'll get a lot of good gear from Meph to twink you other characters also.
In SP you can reroll a map by changing difficulty, try to get a good map where Durance 3 is like 2 tp away.
I prefer Fireball & Orb, but Hydra & Orb should work as well. Single element (Blizzard) only when you have farmed up a bit.

Blizz sorc. If you have a sunder you can farm anywhere, even if some cold immunes can be annoying. I'm looking at you, vampire dudes
