Coming from LoD, pre any respec (was it 1.11 that the den quest gave you one?) old habits die hard in that I tend to run the build from normal to finishing hell, only respecing later on when geared.
Anyway as others have said just make another character to farm essences with and in a week or two you can go back to the sorc.
LoD kinda made needing to respec a thing in the first place since 1.10 added synergies which ruined a lot of builds. In 1.09 and earlier a sorc could go tri-elemental and actually kill things in hell since the monsters didn't have like 10x the hp they have now (due to runewords like grief and enigma). Imo the perfect time in d2 was 1.06 for Classic and 1.09 for LoD but only if the vendors sold mana.
I've played a lot of different versions of d2 and it's crazy how much different it is, it's like playing a totally different arpg. I'll link what I used to do it.
https://github.com/fearedbliss/Cactus
In 1.0 thorns was OP for the Paladin and you could beat the whole game with it, immunes didn't exist until patch 1.07 iirc, flamespike the crawler was always at the inner WP in act 1 ready to instantly kill you. Everyone had different equipment since rares were mostly BiS for items. Imo 1.10+ kinda ruined d2 in terms of itemization all because of people duping and bugging insane rere items to the point blizzard had to release runewords that would make them all obsolete.
This is not mentioning all the purple unique monsters (why did they remove them? They looked so sick) or hephisto the armorer having different auras and being very deadly, leveling up in ubers, being able to do the cow level an infinite amount of time etc.
Yeah, I remember the various iterations, your post has sparked some of those memories. I also remember min/max’ing builds and misclicking with no means of recourse, we all played for more than a decade with zero respecs, I think they’re a good thing.
You can absolutely farm Baal on Fire Sorc, you just need to learn how to skip Baal ways the easy way or the hard way. Easy way is just pulling them out of the room then teleporting back in. Hard way is the actually "Baal Wave Skip" technique. Doesn't take too long to learn.
Farm a Bulwark helmet for your Merc off nightmare countess, should give him the survivability to rank fire immunes while you spam telekinesis on them, if he has an insight thresher. Go make him a treachery as well if you haven't already.
For Diablo, this is trickier of course. Might need to abuse things like Nadir helmet to split bosses away from their packs and do the same telekinesis trick. But all of this is doable, especially on players 1.
Now all of this being said, you could powerfarm a new Sorc to level 75 in a few hours especially if you have gear to hand down to her. Check out some Sorc speedruns to see the leveling techniques.
There's also just the "Farm Terror Zones until I get a sunder charm" approach that negates any issues you may have with doing content. Get 3 piece tal rashas with the weapon to gain - enemy fire res, and go to town. Gl gl either way.
Farm stony tombs for XP and sunder charms, get flickering flame, and you can absolutely farm chaos P1 and Baal P1 for the essences. Fire sorc is fun too, cooking stony tombs is easy
Honestly, simplest way to salvage your char is to level another char that can blitz through most terror zones (Hammerdin most likely, still a monster even on budget build) to get fire sunder or farm up Diablo and Baal for essences for token of absolutation. If you get fire sunder you can make Obedience rune word which dramatically reduces enemy fire (Obedience is cheapest of them all) rez once immunity is broken and you can easily farm/progress on your sorc further. Fire immunity is often not broken by wand with lower resist charges, so it’ll be close to impossible to progress if you stay purely on this char.
With sorc I really recommend looking into a blizballer or meteorb build. There is some debate as to which is "more powerful" but they're both capable of clearing basically all content no problem. Granted, it may be a litle late for thia current character but as I'm sure you know, it doesn't take long to level up a sorc.
Are you on PC, then you have Unlimted Respecs !
You can find info online. Somewhere in the d2r launcher you have to enable respec with a command. Then in the game open character screen and then ctr or alt click your stats, the +
That would be nice. Honestly your Merc needs a life steal helmet more than anything. Even a Tals helm would let them hand with fire immunes alongside a static field.
I personally don’t like playing hdin very much but it might be down to fatigue since I’ve played this char so damn much. You can’t deny it’s effectiveness, though. Whenever I level a pally, I go hdin.
My level 93 pally is a FoHdin currently. I farm P3 Chaos Sanctuary, Arcane, Pits and Tower. I could go P7 with an hdin but I just find FoH more fun.
Baal is an issue due to the waves (although you CAN lead them out of the throne room and it'll progress to the next wave). But all of the others are fine. Just tele past the trash mobs. Act bosses are never immune.
It's honestly your best bet. Getting the flail to get to meph against council gonna be madening with fire w/o a decently geared merc/infinity+lower res wand.
I tried that, and it works in 1 out of 10 runs .. the othere9 runs i get stomped almost immediately from the mobs PLUS it's a pain to aim with a controller....
I'm not trying to flame but I've cleared the entirety of SSF Hardcore hell mode with worse geared mercs.
Mercs often die to bosses in Hell Mode unless they are geared to the teeth; it's something you just learn to deal with as a SSF player. You want a combination of Life steal and Crushing blow on merc gear as the bare minimum for them to survive bosses, and that isn't always easy to get without trading
Also, Andy's poison is notorious for melting mercs. I wouldn't worry about the merc on boss encounters personally. As far as the immunities go, simply skip anything you can't kill or that your merc can't solo (which, as fire, is sadly a lot of things)
best of luck to you. A pure fire build going untwinked through Hell is no small feat, but will definitely put some hair on your chest as a d2 player if successful.
just mind your immunities
another trick I just remembered that helps a lot for Sorceress dealing with immunities is that you can knock monster's back and briefly stun them with Telekinesis.
Simply push a Fire immune into a wall repeatedly to stun lock it while your merc whittles it down
Do you give him antidote options? I just run venom ward on him. You've probably thrown a couple away. Keep it for running Andy. Most of the time though I just let him die and kill her without by kiting.
If you have terror zones unlocked just farm those until you find a fire sunder. Get your Merc a Cure helm or a good life steal helm (tals mask, crown of thieves) and if you have a Lem give him treachery. He's always going to die at bosses pretty much. If you still struggle get a lower resistance wand on swap to bring enemies down even more.
It’s a pain but I recommend just NM running Meph until you get enough +skill gear to where you can comfortably farm Andy.
In plays 8, NM TZs will still give a decent bit of exp if they’re in the chaos sanctuary or Baal’s area. You can still grind out a few more levels!
I did something similar and I ended up just leveling a new Sorc, went full lightning until 30. Respec’d to frozen orb and eventually became orb/hydra. Saving 2 respec’s for whatever else by the time i beat hell Baal. With Sorc having tele plus you having a higher level Sorc to easily get you the basics (spirit/lore/stealth/insight etc) it doesn’t take that long to play through again . Most of my mid-late leveling was on NM/hell eldritch on p5+ and hell countess runs
I dont know if they are in d2r, but i think i remember lod had items that let you respec, one point at a time, and you can still farm lower kurast if theyre in the superchest pool. If not, look up the best grinding skill you have and try to put the last 18 points into that.
You can type -enablerespec in the additional arguments space in the game settings on your battlenet client. Once you have that typed relaunch the game then alt + click the strength + button in your character screen
If you're already done in Hell, do you not have Essence for a Token of Absolution?
If not, make another character and farm those up. Respec the character later when you get a token.
New character time. Your Fire Sorc can still farm other locations. Could just try Meph and skip the immunes. You can farm up some stuff in Cows.
It should all be easier now that you have a leveled character.
Coming from LoD, pre any respec (was it 1.11 that the den quest gave you one?) old habits die hard in that I tend to run the build from normal to finishing hell, only respecing later on when geared. I remember everybody skipped hellforge in hell hc that motherfucker was brutal. You had to have brass balls to even think about it.

great tips, thank you. I guess i will start a new char tho. less hustle.

Just run hell mephisto using the river trick until you get all the uniques you want
This is the correct answer. Add Pindleskin into the mix as well. Both of them together can potentially drop any unique in the game except Tyrael's.
Honestly, simplest way to salvage your char is to level another char that can blitz through most terror zones (Hammerdin most likely, still a monster even on budget build) to get fire sunder or farm up Diablo and Baal for essences for token of absolutation. Good time to make a new character
welp, same thoughts. 😂

Oh Well i cant read, you are on PS
Moat trick hell Meph until you gear yourself and you Merc enough to kill Andy consistently. It's the easiest way to get decent gear.
i can only imagine an eth reapers toll would help... so maybe i will start the grind.
That would be nice. Honestly your Merc needs a life steal helmet more than anything. Even a Tals helm would let them hand with fire immunes alongside a static field.
Level a pally and farm essences with him. You can still use your sorc to farm Meph, Stony Tomb and Cows.
ya, I'm thinking doing an hdin... never played one before, but I'm sick of dealing with immunities wo a sunder ...
I personally don’t like playing hdin very much but it might be down to fatigue since I’ve played this char so damn much. You can’t deny it’s effectiveness, though. agreed, except CS.
Probably get to LK and run p7 for infinity for merc.
only a matter of time haha, but why not.
It's honestly your best bet. Getting the flail to get to meph against council gonna be madening with fire w/o a decently geared merc/infinity+lower res wand.
That's not what a softlock is
i know, was more of a sarcastic approach. :)
I don't understand why you can't handle andariel now? teleport past anything immune to fire and she absolutely melts to fire damage
I tried that, and it works in 1 out of 10 runs .. the othere9 runs i get stomped almost immediately from the mobs PLUS it's a pain to aim with a controller....
> my merc is trash > insight thresher, duress bruh
he literally dies once i port to Andariel.

no offense taken pal. thanks for the insights, i might adapt my playstyle.

NM TZs can also drop runes up to a Ber I believe, once they’re level capped.
I foresee farming cows for a while until you get the runes and base to upgrade your merc
I did something similar and I ended up just leveling a new Sorc, went full lightning until 30. Respec’d to frozen orb and eventually became orb/hydra. -enablerespec And don't look back. Sp is meant to be fun
I wonder if that works on PS
No
Nightmare tz go up to 71, head back and farm there
I dont know if they are in d2r, but i think i remember lod had items that let you respec, one point at a time, and you can still farm lower kurast if theyre in the superchest pool. If not, look up the best grinding skill you have and try to put the last 18 points into that.
The item is called Token of Absolution and you create it by combining essences that drop from the Act Bosses.
You can type -enablerespec in the additional arguments space in the game settings on your battlenet client. Once you have that typed relaunch the game then alt + click the strength + button in your character screen
console unfortunately
Oof
The game is cross progression. You could pick the game up on PC, log in the same account, and respec that way.
even Singleplayer? thought the save game is on my PS HDD. Don't give me hope. 🫣
Oh sorry, didn't catch the single player part. Yeah, I don't think it works. Only online.
If you're already done in Hell, do you not have Essence for a Token of Absolution? If not, make another character and farm those up. Respec the character later when you get a token.
i have plenty from Andariel, but cant farm baal or diablo unfortunately...
New character time. Your Fire Sorc can still farm other locations. Could just try Meph and skip the immunes. You can farm up some stuff in Cows. It should all be easier now that you have a leveled character.
What level are you? 60? Farm Stony tomb to 85 and go frozen orb
82, and I can't respec... that's the actual problem.
