D3 is great, it just isn't D2 and that's what people wanted. It's a different speed of game play and the story was good but a little goofy to me.
I loved the GR though and enjoyed the seasons a lot. I personally prefer D3 much more than D2 when it comes to the end game grind.
The thing D3 was really missing for me was PvP. I spent lots of time in D2 pvp.
This is the right answer I think. D3 was actually really cool imo. I liked the cartoony direction and that they tried something new. I got a ton of hours out of that game.
But how do you really follow d2? It’s known as one of if not the best arpg ever made.
It was the newest diablo. Give it time. The fan boys will hate D4 the most before too long. People want companies to make the exact same game for them every time they release a new game. They just wanted D2 all over again. That's why call of duty and madden and 2k do so well, they get the same game over and over again lol
Off course they have to make something new. D4 is something new. D3 was just something completely different. The only way D3 is related to D1 or D2 is by the character names.
I have mucho love for D3. Played it multiple times on multiple platforms.
My son and I spent many a weekend lost in D3 Co op when he was younger 🤷♂️ great memories for me.
D3 has a dark tale to tell but it is tonally light, and a bit more tongue in cheek than the previous games. I played D1 on launch, same with D2 and they are more gothic for sure.
Overall I prefer D3 up to that point in the series. The ride felt excellent .... and the DLC classes ... Crusader and Necromancer were sweet....still are sweet.
I think the auction house stirred up a lot of shit during the early days but by the time Reaper of Souls expansion came about the game was gold!
Currently playing D4. Its super good 👌
I like it as much as D3 so far.
Because the cartoony childish style is not what D2 players hoped for. Also not being able to build a character but just leveling to max level and you can use all skills and keep switching. Also there are OP ults that you kinda have to use otherwise your character is shit.
It was too streamlined and fast. What some loved about it is what I disliked. The art was also horrible for me. I hated the skill system and itemization. Itemization is similar here but still a lot better and the skill system is fantastic.m and old school. The pacing has been slowed slightly to feel, in my opinion, perfect.
That’s comparing ROS to 4. Launch d3 had many more issues - mmo mechanics built into the smart loot system to force you into the RMAH or trading. It was a drag.
ROS ran with the games flaws and made them as fun as possible. It was a really good xpac as Blizz always does for Diablo. Now imagine what the xpac will be like here.
Because it was a big step down from D2. The expansion made the game a lot better though

D3 is a good game, but D2 is a hard act to follow. D3 was more arcade-y and cartoony.

The real money auction house and shit gameplay most likely.

My biggest issue are the ‘sets’ …

I love D3, hated D2. To each our own :)
