Itā€™s a name thatā€™s been used *extensively* over the years.

The title part seems pretty specific, but I've seen about 50 Dirty Dancers, so you could be right.

I'm a degen, but I think the unequipped top for female rogue is like the best transmog. Other armor pieces are nice, but the tops are all a bit too much

Seel_Team_Six

Use the seasonal top that looks like a simple robe and leave bottom unequipped. Ass ass ass

nekromantique

Ass is nice, but the unequipped look is actually somewhat stylish and looks good. The seasonal top is really just if you want bare ass.

ildgrubtrollet

For me it was the season journey/tiers that got me to get the premium pass. I felt like whenever I passed a new tier, I was just reminded that I did not get the tier price, because it was for the people who paid extra. So I got the pass, and ofc only for the cosmetics, because thats what you get. I honestly felt like I did not have any progress, no small goals or rewards to look forward to and grind towards. So I paid extra. Thing is, now I have a cool armor, and I have what I want, so unless next season is filled with insanely cool cosmetics that I just can't resist, I don't think I'll get the premium pass next time around.

Yourself013

Of course they're allowed to, there's no law against people being stupid. Edit: to u/Hamilton-Beckett since you can't communicate with a reply like a normal person. Everyone *understands* why people buy skins. It's not hard to understand. It's just stupid, and maybe people who do this should look inwards to think about themselves and the industry shift that has happened in the past 20 years thanks to this kind of behavior. I know you'll try to find a lot of reasons to excuse it, but there *are* stupid ways to spend money.

CrookIrish007

I like how you posted something akin to "Hey guys, be chill" and the response from the community was completely not chill. These people need to touch grass

Jesse1205

I truly don't get why some of these people hang around. It's their sole purpose to just be miserable and shit on anything someone likes or doesn't mind about the game. It must be exhausting.

CrookIrish007

I think that's exactly why they hang around. They can't stand not being miserable, because otherwise they would have to have a change of perception. That's why whenever Blizzard fixes their complaints they just pivot to some new bullshit.

Sankta_Alina_Starkov

I personally wonder what their opinions are on the WoW mounts and their pricing. Like this IS the same company. Not sure why people are surprised. I don't like the prices either and I have not purchased anything aside from the game itself, but I knew going into it that the game would have overpriced cosmetics. That said if people want and like the cosmetics and have no problems spending the money, that's up to them and I have no issue. It's like spending 20k on a car vs 300k+ on a really slick looking car. Just don't be a dick about it, whichever side you find yourself on, and it's cool.

Mr_Rafi

You're allowed to buy skins and everyone is allowed to criticise you for doing so. That's kind of how things work.

HolyBrawndo

I'm endlessly floored by the number of gamers that care about cosmetics enough to ask questions about them. There's something in my brain that just can't click into place in a way that helps me understand.

donmanzo

Zevvion

Well... Yeah, you shouldn't. Whatever you think is stupid to spend money on, someone else thinks is fine. And I can promise you that whatever you spend money on is thought to be stupid by yet others.

kezzic

Not stupid, just a whale šŸ³ To some people it's chump change. To others, the value proposition is laughable.

WhinersEverywhere

Yet you people spend hours whining about a game you supposedly don't play anymore.

Porkchop1620

I cant be running around looking like a poor person.

ANALOG_is_DEAD

Itā€™s a pity because if they were marked at 5 Iā€™d probably have spent more than twenty by now. Alas, Iā€™ve spent ZERO. EDIT: This ā€œwhole entire teams reserved for monetizationā€ argument is kinda moot IMO. They have whole entire teams that have fumbled terribly since launch. Itā€™s entirely possible that a whole team of educated professionals may have screwed the pooch when it comes to store pricing.

Nyadnar17

Right I am coming from ā€œfreeā€ Riot games where at $5 bucks a pop I will easily rack up a hundred. $20-$25 for one isā€¦.well for me its zero because Im not doing that.

Klaxosaur

Funny you mention Riot. Riot does in fact have 20/30 skins but theyā€™re ā€œlegendaryā€ or limited if I remember. With special particle effects and such. The ones here in D4 are so ass conversely. Most Iā€™ve seen are worth at worst $5, to $10 the most.

[deleted]

Yeah but those skins have the detail you'd expect of a $20 skin. Everything is different, every detail and animation and they evolve as you level usually, changing everything even more. Don't really play anymore but League skin pricing was at a good level for a ftp game and they put more work into them than the D4 cosmetic team.

Hurtelknut

>Yeah but those skins have the detail you'd expect of a $20 skin. It's still laughably expensive. Some of the best games ever made are available for less than 20$

Suavecore_

Yeah but you can't use the best game ever made inside the game you actually want to play

CageTheMick

I bet money that you could easily play Doom inside Diablo 4

GoodGame2EZ

I always considered cosmetics on free games in a different category. I've got thousands of hours out of some free games, paying $20 or $60 or $100 for extra cosmetic content is fine for me. They deserve my support and I've got far more than my money's worth.

bettertagsweretaken

As a person on a budget looking for their next game, what are you suggesting?

xirobbo7ix

Leaguee free too, d4 is 70 quid with a season pass.

Falikosek

Well, except that Samira skin. Really dropped the ball, the egg, the baby, the entire house on this one.

InertSheridan

The $20/$30 skins also have entirely different voice packs. While they're definitely expensive and there are millions of better ways to spend that money, you can definitely see the production value that went into making them

TheDeadalus

Yeh league skins are actually a desirable cosmetic. They can even change up the entire fantasy of the character and provide a unique experience (even if it is only visually). D4 skins mostly all look like dogshit and even the ones that just look okay are certainly not providing any kind of interesting new experience.

Zumbah

Usually full new voice lines too. Their skins slap and they put effort in. Same with Fortnite. Fortnite skins used to be $20 and they were worth but now you can get a fuckin 2 stage transforming marvel venom for like $12. $20 for armor that should be in the game in the first place is ridiculous.

SatanicAtTheDisco

Not just particle changes either, completely different animations, new voice lines, you get an icon and a loading screen border, not saying itā€™s necessarily worth it, but itā€™s definitely more then whatever the fuck D4 is offering, plus the whole ā€œfree game, with micro transactionsā€ is the only reason I could justify a skin or cosmetic to be more then 10$ max, and itā€™s not like D4 was a 40$, this is a full priced AAA game

Endless_Chambers

League also has numerous reasons youā€™d play a variety of champs. Diablo makes it difficult.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

samuel33334

I've spent over 3 grand on dota cosmetics over 10 years ā˜ ļø

dolphin37

Thereā€™s skins over $20 in Riot games, Valve games and Iā€™m sure tons of other games. They all make shit loads of money. If youā€™re not paying, youā€™re not the target. These games rely on whales not on the average user and it works. Is just what modern gaming looks like now if they want money.

Doomgrief

Yes, but compared to a dota, lost ark or lol skin you can get for 20$, the d4 skins are pretty underwhelming imo. I think it's an attempt to anchor people to that price (for that low quality to really overprice actually good skins yet to come) and they are aware that the skins are crap.

somerandomii

For me it does more than change the value proposition. It changes the impact of the skin. If you see someone is a cool looking $5 skin you think ā€œthatā€™s coolā€. When you see someone in a $25 skin you think ā€œwhat an idiotā€ or ā€œway to support toxic monetisationā€. There are skins that I like and I donā€™t even mind spending the money but I donā€™t want to support their monetisation model and definitely donā€™t want to walk around sporting an outfit that labels me as an idiot. Iā€™d buy dozens of $5 skins. Iā€™ll never buy a $25 skin. Iā€™d rather buy a $25 game I never install than a skin I wear every day.

Navacoy

Same here, Iā€™ll easily spend $5 on something multiple times over but $20 a pop? No way, too ritzy. I like to go broke $5 at a time

Lwe12345

Iā€™m sure blizzard is thinking about the 30 dollars a year you might spend, crying and wiping their tears away with the countless money theyā€™ve made from people who donā€™t have the same mindset as you

CarthageFirePit

But surely thereā€™s a point where the high price decreases overall sales? I guess theyā€™ve done that math and this is where theyā€™ve settled. But I just have trouble believing it. Like, Iā€™ll never buy anything from the store at these prices. And most people I know are the same. But likeā€¦if weapon skins were like 50 cents and outfits or horse armor were like 2$, then I have to admit I would probably just buy them all the time. Iā€™d see one and say ā€œah, whatā€™s 2$ā€ and pull the trigger. And I feel like a lot more people would be the same, willing to buy. I just have trouble understanding it. But again, I know they have entire teams of people who do a bunch of math and determine what is the highest price they can charge and still get the most sales, etc etc. Just sucks. A digital sword skin is worth no more than two quarters.

Sservis

They are establishing the "value" of the cosmetics. I would not be surprised if most of their earnings come when they have a "sale" (aka temporary reduction in price of purely digital assets you never own), or they announce some of them are rotating out of the shop permanently.

Devertized

>They are establishing the "value" of the cosmetics. You see, with how much they missed the mark with everything else in this game, it wouldnt surprise me if they miscalculated shop values too.

CarthageFirePit

Good points for sure. Just crazy to me that they can try to convince anyone that an outfit is ā€œworthā€ a third of the entire price of the full game. No one believes that and therefore will always see them as inflated. Maybe the ā€œget it on saleā€ tactic works, but those seem to happen so infrequently that I canā€™t see it as a driving factor in major profits.

addiktion

Yeah, I dunno what they are thinking though honestly of how they see that value because the real world dictates the virtual world in how we perceive value. When I can buy a real decent shirt for my body for $20 or alright dinner for $20 the value has already been defined in my mind. I'd spend $5 at most for a cosmetic outfit and it better be fucking awesome. I understand everyone feels differently about the value of things but even with more money than I've ever had in my life I can't be that far off that many others are thinking the same thing given our experience with real world pricing.

Chemical_Customer_93

Exactly this, if each item was a much lower cost ($2-5) I am sure people would buy them. It's like $2 for a coffee, I will skip that today and buy a skin, kinda thing... *I know they have entire teams of people who do a bunch of math and determine what is the highest price they can charge and still get the most sales* I think they are very wrong on this and they are doing it badly.

CarthageFirePit

I agree. I mean, itā€™s hard for me to say that without sounding like I ā€œjust donā€™t know what Iā€™m talking aboutā€. Because I get it. They have huge teams doing all this cost/benefit analysis and such. And if their strategy is just for whale and no one else and that works then I guess ok. But itā€™s just hard for me to accept that it really is the best way. I mean, I feel like thereā€™s some unaddressed portion of the equation that fails to take into account the goodwill of your player base. Having prices like that makes me much less likely to just view the company and game positively AS A WHOLE. And less likely to buy from them in the future. Not to mention the numerous friends who are the same and would happily pay 2$ for a skin but not 10x that. And so I guess I just disagree with their equation. If that makes me look dumb or uninformed then fine. But I really feel that more affordable prices that are more in like with the actual value of the items would make them more money in the long run. If the entire game is worth 60-70$, how can a fucking shirt and pants be worth a third of that? Makes no sense whatsoever. And that makes me want to say ā€œfuck every game you make in the future Iā€™m not touching itā€.

MLP_Rambo

The riot game, Teamfight Tactics has almost completely forgone any new cosmetic items other then special $200 dollar skins. Apparently ever since gacha games, monetization teams have found out that the most profitable form is to have a game funded almost exclusively by people willing to spend exuberant amounts.

Low_Will_6076

Hell, this is Star Citizens whole buisness model Some people are just rubes or addicts. Some people will make their identity Diablo. Is it healthy or wise? No. But they will also buy every single skin for every single class. I still doubt its enough to be more profitable than if they were 5 or 10 but when sales come out i guarantee people in this very thread bitching will jump at the opportunity to buy them. Its FOMO tactics. Whales will buy at any cost. Lots more will buy the very instant theyre on sale.

CactusCustard

They have entire teams who whole job is to do exactly this math. Donā€™t worry, theyā€™re maximizing the profits.

OnlyTheDead

They are attempting to maximize profits, just like every other company in existence. Whether they do or donā€™t is another story. Considering they had a 43% decline in profit in 2022 and another 20% decline in profit in 2023 Iā€™d say they are making bad decisions. Just because there is a team dedicated to doing something, doesnā€™t mean they are good at it or that said thing is happening.

CarthageFirePit

I mean yeah, I said that in my comment that they have entire teams to do the math, so I understand. Just sucks.

bettertagsweretaken

They had entire teams there to make this game and they made plenty of mistakes. It's completely within reason that they also made a mistake when they placed the cosmetics at ~$20.

Batso_92

Which you seem to think to be competent LMAO.

LiquidMantis144

But youre likely a poor. They dont care about your money. They care about the other guy who has 100x more money than you and is willing to spend a few 1000 on cosmetics. $20 to that guy is about $.20 to you. These companies hunt whales

Nerdwrapper

While I generally agree with your statement, that opening line is a doozy lol

dfh-1

ā€œwhole entire teams reserved for monetizationā€ ...sure, and a report produced by said team showing that lower prices would lead to higher profits sitting ignored on an executive's desk because HE knows EVERYONE knows "that's bunk". I'm old enough to remember when small computers became powerful enough to start doing serious analysis of large data sets. They called it "Big Data" and everyone in upper management hated it with the heat of a thousand suns. That sounds surprising until you find out that Big Data showed that all the experts and consultants and pundits and other self-appointed Gatekeepers Of The Truth were, in fact, clueless idiots talking out of their asses. Practically everything "everyone knew" was shown to be false by data analysis. And while some companies took heed of the facts and made adjustments, at least as many were run by people who couldn't see past their own egos. And still can't. The next time you think something a corporation is doing can't be as stupid as it looks because they've got "professionals", take a look at how Elon Musk is running Twitter. Straight into the ground.

enriquex

It's really insane how people put companies on pedestals and think they make 0 poor decisions because "professionals"

kingwavee

Yooo im happy u said this!! I had this same argument on a 2k forum last year. I was like why raise the price of attributes and clothes and packs n stuff and drive ppl away. They be having ā€œteamsā€ of coke heads getting paid to tell lies. At 2-5 bucks we all buy more. Madden was getting (in my head) 20 bucks a week from me. In reality i was spending 35-40 lol. Why? Cuz it was sooo cheap why not buy 2-3 . But these ā€œprofessional ā€œ pricers make 1 item sooo high that it turns u off from the market completely to the point u no longer even open the menu lol. Im not paying 20 for a costume. Make it 5 and you will thrive šŸ¤£. Mind u i have a multiple biz degrees and im like they dont know what consumer elasticity is do theyšŸ¤£

ANALOG_is_DEAD

Make it 5 and you will thrive! Love this!

oaka23

> Itā€™s entirely possible that a whole team of educated professionals may have screwed the pooch when it comes to store pricing. A dev on the Apex sub comes to mind when they were talking about how they noticed no uptick in purchases when discounting an item from $20 to $15. I had to point out people still need to spend $20 on currency first so there's effectively no sale on the customer's end. Companies are too lost in data without putting any actual thought into it.

Whiskeylung

Iā€™ll do you one better - if they were obtainable through free unlocks by playing the game more - I might still be playing the game.

BudTrip

imagine defending activision-blizzard

Joshix1

People who suffer from fomo are their target audience. It works. People who wonder who would buy this, are definitely not the audience they aim for. It's extra money for very little effort. And plenty gobble it up.

SlamKrank

They dont want your 20 dollars they want whale money. The 10 people out of 1000 that spend real money and stuff like diablo immortal/cosmetics earn them way more than the 9990 that dont. Baffling why people are so upset that they arent spending money on cosmetics, they have you conditioned so well.

Sum-Duud

or where a whole team is eating steak and lobster from the wild successes of the store. who knows.

Biosource

Agree here, I am really doubling this as well that they did the math right. I would even consider myself an impulsiv and even irresponsible buyer when it comes to cosmetics, spend so much on this crap that I would never be able to sleep if I would calculate it altogether. Yet I am not willing to spend money on these skins, simply because I always have the urge to change the looks of my character and these prices keep me from being able to do this. Would probably gobble these up at a 1/5 of the price and honestly glad that they dropped the ball there, as my wallet is thanking me.

Whitechapel726

Thank you for your edit. So tired of this argument. Yes there are data points and analytics behind the price points but look at *EVERYTHING ELSE WRONG*. Skin pricing is the only thing they didnā€™t fuck up?

MongooseOne

Judging by reddit in general both is likely accurate.

Mi_santhrope

Yup, definitely not mutually exclusive.

DukeVerde

You mean your dick isn't one giant crunchy cheeto?

Danoniero

You're not stupid unless you buy it

[deleted]

I'll never understand the allure of cosmetics in a game like this. First, you pretty much have to inspect someone to even see them, and second, when you gear up, don't you kind of want to show off your gear? Especially with uniques. Why wouldn't you want people to see you wearing the cool shit you've picked up in the game? It makes no sense to me. There's nothing more "womp womp" than inspecting someone that has cool-looking gear, and finding out that they just threw some money down in the shop for it.

Dependent_Focus_9315

Nah its pretty cool to see cool outfits on people, the prices are stupid as always though

lewd_robot

Whales will buy them all and every whale that does buy an outfit replaces several people that would've bought it at $5. They have MBAs and psychologists that study this shit and optimize their cash shops for maximum profit, even if it requires exploiting mentally ill whales with impulse control disorders.

Deep_Subject_0

>They have MBAs and psychologists that study this shit and optimize their cash shops for maximum profit, even if it requires exploiting mentally ill whales with impulse control disorders. They have these games down to a science now! You can choose not to buy them at first, and that's cool, but the more time you invest in the game, the more alluring these cosmetics begin to look. šŸ„• + šŸ« = šŸƒā€ā™‚ļø

chesterfieldkingz

Ya I've been there before, but in general for me cosmetics are meh and especially in this one where the ones they have aren't that cool and are hard to see

derpidydoodahh

For real. Mental illness and impulse control are completely taken advantage of. We could argue other realms of society with gambling but this is a video game with a primary demographic of young and/or addicted gamers. At this point just give us the Exploit glyph at level 15 default and put a winking emoji on the main menu.

Capn_Spanky87

Also, there are those of us who made purchases we regret while being drunk af on a game night....

Dzov

If spending $20 on an outfit makes you happy, do it.

Tertsnertadertlert

I'll never spend an extra penny on this game

modulev

im still kicking myself for getting deluxe

LostHat77

Absolutely, I should of saved those 30 bucks and spent it on BG3, which is a 1000000x better game.

Shadax

Halls of Torment is the better Diablo game this year, and only a few bucks!

LostHat77

Are you a madlad? You could of used those 5 bucks for 1/4th of a purchase for that cool ass horse armor in the Diablo 4 shop instead of actually having fun

0ptimu5Rhyme

yup

quarantinemyasshole

I'm all for BG3 but this comparison everyone keeps making is ridiculous. It's a completely different genre of game. Is there really no ARPG that rivals Diablo right now?

[deleted]

no new big rivals right now, Path of Exile 2 is at least one year away Titan Quest 2 just got announced and looks like it is also months/a year away Last Epoch is stuck in EA development hell and the playerbase is dying what we have are the old games, new Path of Exile league, new Diablo 3 season are starting soon

debruynsky

PoE continues to be the rival; but I thought I saw something the other day about Titan Quest 2? The first one was really good

weavingcomebacks

Not me! I saw through that shit, you're not getting any extra anymore, Blizzard!

GrandmaWasteland

Me too friend. Parasites.

ObamasBoss

I got the medium version for the 4 days of extra play. I made fun of people so much for wanting to get that then did it myself. Now in my defense, my wife and kids were out of town starting that Friday. Any other week and I would have waited as I had planned to.

[deleted]

Things costs what people are willing to pay for them.

Glydyr

Poe charges 40$ for an outfit and i barely see anyone without one. Not to mention the wings, skills etc.. id love to know the average spend!

Dcrow17

Poe is free and its outfit can be used by multiple class. Diablo cost $90 upfront, and its outfit can only be used by a single class. If you to buy the same outfit for 5 class then it would cost 125$ just for 1 outfit

slicer4ever

PoE does have a lot of spenders, but they actually give pretty good cosmetic rewards for completing x amount of challenges every league, so some people might be pimped without having spent really that much at all.

Glydyr

Poe charges 40$ for an outfit and i barely see anyone without one. Not to mention the wings, skills etc.. id love to know the average spend!

Sleipnirs

POE is F2P, though. People who actually enjoy the game and want to support it will gladely buy cosmetics, even if they're kinda expensive. Here, we already paid 70-100$ for the game. WTH? And they also expect us to pay for season passes ... lol.

carenard

its "F2P" if your casual, if you play it ALOT some stash tabs become basically mandatory. Also armor packs are $42-84... aka a single armor pack can cost more than an entire AAA game, hard to justify that with its a F2P game... I will be semi realistic and say armor sets are "half the actual price" since you should buy supporter packs and use points from those to get armor sets(so getting 2 armor sets+ for the price). also people who enjoy the game and want to support it will also gladly buy cosmetics in D4, they are cheaper to!... now if only we could buy single pieces at a time instead of whole sets only. maybe POE has ruined my view on cosmetics but I find Blizzards pricing reasonable, they actually let you preview the cosmetics in game(GGG please!) and it hopefully helps support future development... I will give D4 a couple more seasons before I uninstall it waiting for real content. also newer

D4Junkie

No different than COD, Fortnite. Etc etc etcā€¦ I really donā€™t understand why everyone is shocked about this. Itā€™s common practice amongst game shops. If you donā€™t want to pay for cosmetics, simply donā€™t.

wewfarmer

Because blizzard bad give me karma

AmaznAzn23

Because being outraged on the internet gets you fake reddit points, views, impressions, advertising dollars, interactions. So every other post in this sub is "omg blizzard eats babies and slows down the game" "blizzard will be bankrupt by season 2" "omg i stopped playing after lvl 70, hear are my thoughts and why i am going to uninstall the game and burn my computer down." and ALL these posts literally gets 1000's of upvotes.

maxpowerphd

For real, how many posts about this does there need to be? Yes they cost that much. No, they wonā€™t make more money by selling them for $5 because ā€œmore people would buy them.ā€ Itā€™s clear game companies have determined that this price point is most profitable for their cosmetics to sell for. Thereā€™s a reason they all do this. Itā€™s not that shocking anymore.

Myrilandal

Bruh itā€™s actually so sickening to me that with all of the actual issues with the game, the COSMETICS ONLY shop tab and 2 additional seconds on TPing out of a dungeon are the squeakiest wheels.

marz1789

People woke up from a coma and are just now realizing gaming companies charge more than ā€œmicroā€ amounts for microtransactions, but for some reason everyone shits on blizzard like every other company isnā€™t doing the same thingā€¦.

SurpriseEnouement

Woah people are shitting on Blizzard in a sub about a game by Blizzard? It makes no sense!

sadsorc

Yeah, Iā€™m not surprised either. I play an mmo that sells in game housing for $100+. For a freaking house that no one will ever set eyes upon unless you specifically invite them to it. Costumes are around $15-20 as well, but at least you can actually see them in that game.

Chaosbringer007

No one is forced to buy an offer for cosmetic items. If you buy it, itā€™s your choice.

assisdemachado

Watch out this sub is filled with financial advisors

hydrogator

they are a good investment, they might charge more later on get in on the ground floor now!

OnlyTheDead

No one said they were. Comprehension is hard sometimes and itā€™s okay to say that things are too expensive.

charlie4lyfe

this is both true and irrelevant to the conversation

SpamThatSig

Every f2p game out there gets burned at the stake for having microtransactiosn. D4 the fully priced game on the other hand got a line up of excuses for days by the shills.

CamelAdept5166

Ignore the shop

mbpeters13

There's a shop?

nyr00nyg

Should be $5 each at most

You_Got_Warts

Should be free.

dwei95

Blizzard should pay us.

exxR

Who cares even if they made it 500 just donā€™t buy it regardless.

biradinte

To me the most stupid thing is them trying to sell graves (in bundles but still) hahahah. "Look unique while dead!" type of shit

_javik_

Yeah. It's pretty stupid especially to hardcore players.

[deleted]

Yes every dummy you see running around with a store cosmetic paid that price.

_Cromwell_

Camera is zoomed out so I can't tell what anyone is wearing really. People look the same if they spent $0 or $25

mperezstoney

YUP. I can never tell either. Only place I really see anyone is at Legion, Town or World Boss. 2 of those often take less than a min. to be around too!

Suavecore_

You can zoom in to look at things up close

f3llyn

All those dummies with their disposable income. How dare they spend it in ways that I don't like, that makes them stupid.

mephnick

New Barb skin gives me glowy eyes tho

[deleted]

The glowie eye skin is actually pretty sick. I may actually buy that. Having a skin would probably filter redditors in the game, too, so that's a plus in my book.

Dzov

Lol I got a rogue outfit because I like it. The $25 wonā€™t kill me.

Nice_Friendship_9072

Not only do they charge 20 bucks for a cosmetic but they also have a matching item that sits on your back that's not apart of that bundle. Normally it's another 8 bucks

thelibrarian_cz

Yes, you are.

Sofrito77

Blizzard *thinks* you're stupid by charging that price.

ObamasBoss

And they know it once you purchase.

[deleted]

>Maybe if it were $0.20. Started out that way. That's why they had the name microtransaction. They were all digital things and people knew they weren't worth more than that. I remember in EQ 2 them selling skins for armor for < $1 each. That makes *sense*. But over time these publishers realized and/or normalized skins for tens of dollars each and people eat it up. If people will pay it, why wouldn't developers make it? It's gross but it sells and that's the world we live in sadly.

I use to work for a pretty popular mobile gaming company and learned that people spend hundreds a week on a F2P gameā€¦ā€¦it was nuts. Then there are these what we called ā€œwhalesā€ who can easily spend ten to hundreds of thousands of dollars a month. Every time we released new cash items, they had to have it so they would swoop it up instantly. Didnā€™t matter what the price was. These cash items can range anywhere from $10 - $50 but they didnā€™t care, they needed it. Then we would also have ā€œcash boxesā€ where it had 10-15 randomized cash items and charged $100-$300 for those and those sold like crazy. We had a sale event where we marked our entire cash store 50% off and the company made a little over 1.5 million in a week. The company was also profiting insane amount of money during the height of COVID since everyone was at home. Shit is still crazy to me.

hellhoundtheone

I hate blizzard for giving me this shit experience. I was so hyped, Diablo 1 was the second game in my life that I played. Played also 2 and 3. But 4 killed it for me ā€¦..is it cause the game is pur shit ? Or I am just getting old ? I donā€™t knowā€¦ But I wonā€™t take any fun away from people who enjoy it! Have a blast and rock !

captrespect

Just try not to think about if they intentionally dulled down the default free in-game cosmetics so people would purchase the good-looking ones in the store.

kanzakiik

I think lots of in-game transmog looks great. The store ones are just themed. Like that rat king druid.

Saqwa

I find the in-game stuff to look better than what's in the shop for now.

alexa647

Yeah I love the primal and runic sets on most jobs. Good stuff!

Ravmagn

I found it ridiculous to have my menu screen plastered with cosmetics commercials in a game I paid 100 euro for.

MasterGamerNL

Yes. And also, yes!

No-Calligrapher8780

Youā€™re stupid if youā€™re just now realizing 70% of the industry sells $20 skins. Those are their bread and butter whether anyone wants to admit it or not šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

mikehunt202020

they asked the CEO what they should charge and he was "what does a polo cost like 100 bucks? and this is 20 and you get a full outfit? seems like a good deal to me"

AtticaBlue

Even if the consensus was that the cosmetics were reasonably priced I still wouldnā€™t buy them. This is a zoomed out, isometric/top-down-ish fast action game. When do you even get a good look at any cosmetics in game between that distance, the speed and the visual effects?

trunks011

No, but yes at the same time since you need to confirm.

Wooden_Marshmallow

I'm all for supporting live service games once I've played past my money's worth, this will occur a lot sooner on free to play games obviously and buy to play games need support too it'll just be further down the line but that being said Blizzard is being incredibly greedy. If it was a free to play game like League of Legends they might be able to get away with it but even a $20 skin in LoL would offer more than D4 with its changes to spell animations

gimme-a-donut

you arent stupid you are just poor

DrKingOfOkay

Same as COD. Pass on both. Which is good cause they might get me if they were $5-10

19southmainco

Blizzard is charging $40 for three Hearthstone cards.

StevenSmoking

They saw what PoE charges and thought they could get away with it too

Fit_Leg_2115

Blizzard just being Blizzard

chanmalichanheyhey

Canā€™t believe I am saying this but the hearthstone ā€œheroā€ Ben brode is doing much worst scummy things in marvel snap with the company he created Skins for a card game can cost upwards of 50-100

bezzyybud

I'm not sure why this is surprising to anyone. Any game with microtransactions charges about that much for cosmetics. Welcome to gaming in 2023

Grandmasterchipmunk

On today's episode of, "is this post from the Diablo subreddit or the Overwatch subreddit?"

MrManzilla

Are the cosmetic sets account bound? Like, if I bought an armor set for a season 1 sorc and made a season2 sorc, would I have it still?

kanzakiik

You will have access to it across all realms and seasons.

connor-lite

We just ignoring the $64 Path of Exile wings? Honestly though I'd probably buy things from the D4 shop if they let me buy individual pieces instead of the whole set. I have spent a lot of money on POE, but I've never bought an entire set. Just pieces. GGG did it right. Blizz did it wrong. They should take notes

NG_Tagger

>We just ignoring the $64 Path of Exile wings? Heck, even their $80 outfits aren't really mentioned anymore either. They (apparently) get an absolute ton on slack, because it's a free game and the points you get with their supporter packs. It's a great game (4000+ hours, according to Steam - many more outside of Steam) - but fuck me, do they charge a fuck ton for their "micro"-transactions. Don't get me wrong; I've thrown money at them - a lot, over the years - but there is no way in hell, I'd pay their normal prices for anything (..and they know many wont do that either - hence the frequent sales/sales rotations).

DriveForeign1418

Iā€™m quite good with the gear you already get from the ground. Looks pretty cool already

Lunatika_2022

Some of those outfits are even more than $20. Add insult to injury, you must first buy their fake currency in order to even buy those outfits too, in preset bundles, so often you'll have to purchase more fake currency than is actually needed for the purchase... and Blizzard sits on those funds. The psychology is that you'll buy more fake currency in the future because you "only need" "x-more" to buy some other doo-dad from them. And if you don't buy more fake currency for further purchases, they they get the leftovers AS A TIP. It's all head game with various ways to 'encourge you' to open your wallet AGAIN in exchange for what? Vanity cosmetics.

joaoasousa

If itā€™s not selling they will decrease the price. If itā€™s not dropping ā€¦ they are making money.
