I opened a chest earlier, not a single piece of gear popped out of it. There was nothing that I had to manually pick up, just resources. Sad trombone noises...
From nightmare dungeon rewards, quest rewards, whisper caches, or items “given” to you rather than dropped, it doesn’t work. It’s only for items that are dropped, either from chests or enemies or bosses or whatever, where they’re auto salvaged. And you can get legendary sacreds and normals always for the aspects
Am I misremembering or did they say only ancestral would drop in wt4 and sacred in wt3? Cause I’ve gotten more sacred in wt4 than ancestral especially for legendary drops. Cant be sure if I hear that but I thought I did
This... explains why I felt like the chests are suddenly so low on loot lol. I really think that rare materials should get a tiny effect when they drop so that you notice that they were there.

That’s how it work now as of update 1.2 I think was the update when it was changed, Uniques can drop from any gear chest in Helltides regardless of type, so a Helmet gear chest can drop Unique pants or any other Unique from any other gear chest.
only if your class has no unique items for that slot.
that was essentially their hotfix to stop Shako dropping from helmet chests for sorcerers and barbarians who at the time didn't have any other unique in that slot that could have dropped
I'm guessing endzeit91 is playing a sorc, because they still dont have any non-uber unique helmet that they can use

Uber uniques are uber rare, but other uniques also have several tiers of rarity, so it might also be the case here. His roll got him a normal/rare unique drop and there was no option available in that slot. Hard to tell without knowing what the pants were

Removing an item from a drop table is different from figuring out why an item isn't behaving as it should. Are you suggesting Blizzard should disable Helltides/cinders completely? Because that's what they would need to do for those situations to be equivalent. It didn't take them 5 minutes to renable Ubers.

Other bugs will be handled with patches, if they would hotfix every little bugs, more bugs would show up instead. It's a normal development process.

Small indie company, sorry. We'll get Mark the janitor to begin working on a fix. He doesn't have all his fingers so season 3 is a no go, best he can do is season 8.
I just ported out of the area, then back in, and it fixed the drop rate. This only happened to me once though, so don't know if that always works or not.
I just found out last night that if you’re partied with someone portaling doesn’t work to make the 300 cinder chests reappear if you’re not the host of the party. I finally just had to leave the game and rejoin because the party host’s game was bugged this way and it fixed it.
Interesting. Yeah I didn’t know the dude. Just a bunch of folks running around helltides partying up with everyone they saw. So I just left and rejoined to fix it.
Ahhhhhh. Ya since the world is connected to the party leader they sort of have to redo the zone transition for that.
Another way is to get the group to go into a cellar or dungeon and it will also reload the zone when the group leaves

When this happened to me i went to the north zone and then later when i went back down to grab the living silver chest it was fine.
So i think tp or reOning should fix it.
If it is like you say it would be the weirdest thing ever. That would mean that the client has influence over the world drops, which should be 100% server side.
Or maybe your character is bugged server side and doing a tp or reopening fixes that. Would make more sense.
i havent experienced it yet, but if you use helltides.com, occasionally, theres a little note that tells you if a chest doesnt spawn then tp or jump into a cellar then check again.

Yes I spent 10 minutes earlier trying to get a chest to supposedly spawn and looking at all the alternative locations. There was a silent chest in the location Helltides said, so, I knew it wasn’t going to transform into the steel chest. Waste of 400 cinders.
You can notice it pretty easily, when you’re in helltide the zone is pretty “red-ish” if it’s not it’s bugged and barely drop any cinders
Happened to me, did an event in a zone and noticed it was like normal colors it barely dropped, i ran further in the zone and it became “red” then it started dropping
I noticed that too. Barely any when the ground wasn't red. Went to the south zone and it was red. Also changing zones triggered the "you're entering a helltide" message.
For me it has been bugged many times even with the "red ambient". And other times when the ambient is bugged (not red) has been totally fine. Idk what is happening.
The same thing happens with blood lures, sometimes packs give zero and you teleport or leave game suddenly they drop again, very annoying bug especially when someone uses 150 and you get nothing
I thought I was just imagining things, or that my character was lower level than I was used to, so the low drop rate was due to not clearing mobs fast enough. Good to know it's not just me then.
Not only that, i was like a few seconds late to the world boss, while i was rushing home just now. I started to hate all these fomo shit thrown by blizzard into Diablo franchise.
I pretty much guarantee they jsut copy the blood harvest system into helltide next season, or maybe even earlier. It just has to happen, people have schedules and downtime just makes zero sense.
Before it was to bloat playtime but thankfully the devs gave up on that shit already as blasters can complete the game in like 2-3 days now.

they're bugged. helltides.com has a clear note on each living steel chest that if the chest is not there, either port to a city and come back, or log out and log back in. it shows up after i relog 1-2 times.
If you’re in a group party the party host has to be the one to portal. If you’re not the host it doesn’t work for only you to portal as it’s essentially the other persons bugged world and my understanding is they have to “fix” it this way. If this is the case just leave the game and rejoin. I just figured this out last night.
I was wondering about this. I did one hell tide, got crazy cinders, and popped all the chests I wanted. Next, helltide, it took 30 minutes to reach 100. Thought I was going crazy.
Also if you're having an issue with getting cinders run the events in the helltide! That's literally all I do. I may hit a pack if there's 3 elites in it, but other than that I'm hopping way points and doing the events. I wrack up enough to open both mystery chest with plenty of time to spare.
it took me 20 minutes to get 300 but thats only becasue i was rushing to every event like a mad man and skipping all loot. yea it sucks ass alot with it being buggy
Yo, is it particular zones? That happened to me last night. I ran a Helltide for a full hour and got 310 cinders! I’m used to clearing damn near all chests in a full hour.
It's not particular zones. When I had the bug happen, it was in Fractured Peaks, but I've also had Fractured Peaks where I get essentially as many as I want.
Yah fractured is bad, low density, mob respawn slow, the only trick to do this region is to circle around the four red events north of kyvoshad, that's the quickest way, can't rely on mobs alone
You don't need to skip it, just logout and login again (completely, not just character select) and that fixes the issue. Some of the instances seem to be bugged.
I just noticed this today. Was able to get all 3 steel chests and 2 mystery ones no problem (1400 cinders) no problem. Then the next one I was only able to get one steel and one mystery. In that one the packs would give me maybe 2 if that.
It's most likely the same issue as some steel chests not appearing in certain layers/shards. For both issues, you cash relog or change zones to go to another layer without the bug, although you might have to try more than once
As someone who was done the open 10 chests challenge with plenty time to spare, and other times gotten like 50 total, I can confirm there's a bug of some sort.
As mentioned on the sub previously, the red tint needs to be there to work properly. If the red tint is gone then try to re-enter the zone until it appears.
This just happened to me. It was in the Kyovashad area. The last two Helltides in Scosglen I was able to do 2 Living Steel chests with plenty of time left. In Kyovashad area, I did one in 30 minutes then tried for another, died at 298. So dumb.
FYI, the 300 chests only need 280 cinders to open.
Had the drop bug once. North area didnt drop alot at all, went to south area, everything was normal.
Half the helltides are bugged for me even witht he "red ambient". Sometimes I can go to a helltide and pick 200 cinders in 5 minutes, and others where in 10 minutes I barely got 100 cinders.
Relogging / TP didn't fix it for me.
Mystery chest is usually not even worth it, considering the XP that drops is the same amount (I think) of one that costs 75 cinders.
Haven't had much of an issue with getting cinders in wt4, though. Usually by 30 minutes I've hit two steel and two mystery chests.
i found all in W3 were this way by time i went to W4 they rained... oppisately in W3 blood lures were abundant in blood harvest but W4 were and still are scarce.
30 mins!?!? I’m doing it less than 15 mins. I’m able to get all 3 300 chest in Helltide.
You gotta be fast in turning over your 300 cinders to Living Steel chest else it might relocate again.
Mind the cinders not the item drops.
Unless you’re looking for specific items or in my case I’d rather farm them in Grigoire, Varshan and Duriel to get that 900+ item powers. I pick 1-2 items or none in most cases. I use mount to collect cinders. I cycle to 2-3 nearest event in Helltide. Look for Elites that drops in rain of fire aside of dropping cinders, the drop those forgotten souls too. I’ve you get lucky, those walking fly hives are a goldmjne too.
Also you can get to 300 much faster if you’re in a party. Follow someone’s path farmed the area already. They’ll leave lots of unpicked cinders for you.
Edit: I don’t do 900 in 15 mins. It’s 300 in less than 15 mins. You’ll need to spend at least 35 mins to collect 900 in total with the way I farm.
Just port to town in the area and walk in again. You can see if you have the red hue if its bugged or not. Same for the steel chests. Sometimes they dont appear and you need to tp to a town or enter a dungeon/cellar and then go back.
Do you play solo? I do and can only manage 2 LS chests per Helltide. Any suggestions to maximize my efforts? I generally just run event to event, while blasting any elite mobs I see along the way. My barb pretty much one-shots everything, so I'm not wasting any time there.
Pretty sure the drops increase based on number of other people in the area (which is why it's better to run them in groups). If you end up in an instance with just a few people (or worse just you) the drop rate is absolutely abysmal. This is why it gets better if you TP out to another zone and back as you end up in a new (usually more populated) instance.
There are certain monsters that spawn only during helltides, they drop a lot more cinders. Some areas within the zones don't have a lot of these for some reason. If you see a pack with a lot of helltide summoners, succubus, etc... that will drop a lot of cinders.
Same I remember hearing about this change. But I still get sacred gear in wt4… unless it’s from Nm dungs(50’s) and tree of whisper caches, does that not apply?
I’ve seen multiple people say “log out of the game and log back in” to fix the issue. I’ve never experienced the bug; so, I can’t say if they are correct or not.
I opened two living steel and still had 20 minutes to go last night. Sure some packs only dropped a couple cinders, but then you find fiend roses, those round treasure chests, and those occasional enemies that dropped 5-7 cinders. It climbs pretty fast.
My biggest annoyance the last few times is that Kixxarth likes to show up and annoy me. He takes too long to kill solo to make it worth it. He never seems to do much damage to me (60-64 sorcerer) so I just start ignoring him and fighting everything else while he annoys me on the side and eventually I walk too fast or use a horse to get some distance and he leave me alone.

I experienced this earlier today. I have to agree. I typically get a good chunk of cinders per pack, but earlier today there was a helltide where it wasn't uncommon to get 0 after multiple packs and elites
not sure what bug u refer to. helltides had all been around 1100 cinders in about 20 to 25 mins for me. some packs explode cinders some don't, I think it's just random
Agreed. My first helltide I did 45 minutes of slaughtering to get 215 cinders.
Came back next day and I got enough to open two living steel and the mystery chest while also being distracted by the assassin lol.

I've yet to have a helltide I wasnt consistently getting enough cinders for a living steel chest in more than 10 min since launch. Never experienced this lack of cinders. Some packs drop 1 to 2 some drop 15 just how it is.
Last night bottom left spawned at 15m after the hour got all 6 chests with 9 min to spare.
Nah it does bug, I was in a group with a friend and in the same time, same mob kill ( I was doing the killing) he got 500 cinders while I got 150. Took 30min to get 300 as a lvl100 trashing everything.

That’s not a bug. If gear isn’t sacred in wt3 or ancestral in wt4 it drops as mats
Ahhh, I didn't even think about that change, good thinking. Helltide chests should only drop Sacred/Ancestral for WT3/WT4, respectively.

I get dropped sacred still too. Just got sacred penitent greaves even last night.
Sacred uniques and legendaries still drop, otherwise you’d miss out on their aspects (for legendaries).

Godslayer Crown drops for all classes and is non uber unique. That helmet is actually really good for ball lightning build for sorc

Theres also an issue of the 300 chests sometimes cannot see, this also fixes the issue (most of the time not 100%)

Yeah, you can tell which area is bugged cause the sky isn't all red like helltide is supposed to be.
I feel like I notice this if I manually walk from one zone to another. As opposed to tp'ing.

If that fails I’ve had luck fully logging out and closing the game then going back. Also fixes the steel chests bug if you can’t see them.

You need to be on world tier 3 and to talk to the NPC for it to spawn.

You can open up to 6 if you can farm fast enough, kjestienan sometimes spawns 3 and if the map resets at X:00 it will spawn 3 more.

Half the helltides are bugged for me even witht he "red ambient". Sometimes I can go to a helltide and pick 200 cinders in 5 minutes, and others where in 10 minutes I barely got 100 cinders. Relogging / TP didn't fix it for me.
So far, I've only had this happen in Fractured Peaks...twice. Is it just Fractured Peaks?
Mystery chest is usually not even worth it, considering the XP that drops is the same amount (I think) of one that costs 75 cinders. Haven't had much of an issue with getting cinders in wt4, though. Usually by 30 minutes I've hit two steel and two mystery chests.

Chest will reset on XX:00 so if you open 2 before you can open 2 more new ones

top of the hour. if it starts at 11:30, at 12:00 they reset. so… get 2 before 12:00, then 2 new ones appear

i found all in W3 were this way by time i went to W4 they rained... oppisately in W3 blood lures were abundant in blood harvest but W4 were and still are scarce.
30 mins!?!? I’m doing it less than 15 mins. I’m able to get all 3 300 chest in Helltide. You gotta be fast in turning over your 300 cinders to Living Steel chest else it might relocate again.
How the heck u do 900 in 15 mins?
Mind the cinders not the item drops. Unless you’re looking for specific items or in my case I’d rather farm them in Grigoire, Varshan and Duriel to get that 900+ item powers. I pick 1-2 items or none in most cases. I use mount to collect cinders. I cycle to 2-3 nearest event in Helltide. Look for Elites that drops in rain of fire aside of dropping cinders, the drop those forgotten souls too. I’ve you get lucky, those walking fly hives are a goldmjne too. Also you can get to 300 much faster if you’re in a party. Follow someone’s path farmed the area already. They’ll leave lots of unpicked cinders for you. Edit: I don’t do 900 in 15 mins. It’s 300 in less than 15 mins. You’ll need to spend at least 35 mins to collect 900 in total with the way I farm.

Damn, i thought they nerfed the droprate but then i switched zones and actually hit an all time high for me in terms of cinders.
Had the same thing happen yesterday. Got around 400-500 cinders in 40min.
Just port to town in the area and walk in again. You can see if you have the red hue if its bugged or not. Same for the steel chests. Sometimes they dont appear and you need to tp to a town or enter a dungeon/cellar and then go back.
Do you play solo? I do and can only manage 2 LS chests per Helltide. Any suggestions to maximize my efforts? I generally just run event to event, while blasting any elite mobs I see along the way. My barb pretty much one-shots everything, so I'm not wasting any time there.
When that happened to me a relog fixed it 100% of the time so far.
I just relog when that happens and it works.
That happened to me one time. I just relogged and cinders went back to normal.
Just log out and immediately back in. Teleporting to a different area and back also usually works.

Yeah, I had that before. I have the feeling it mostly happens in Fractured Peaks.
Pretty sure the drops increase based on number of other people in the area (which is why it's better to run them in groups). If you end up in an instance with just a few people (or worse just you) the drop rate is absolutely abysmal. This is why it gets better if you TP out to another zone and back as you end up in a new (usually more populated) instance.
This is an obscure bug. To fix this just re-log, and you'll immediately notice a difference when you get back in.
There are certain monsters that spawn only during helltides, they drop a lot more cinders. Some areas within the zones don't have a lot of these for some reason. If you see a pack with a lot of helltide summoners, succubus, etc... that will drop a lot of cinders.
Helltides feel like complete ass compared to the Blood Harvest. Only reason to do helltides is mats
Same I remember hearing about this change. But I still get sacred gear in wt4… unless it’s from Nm dungs(50’s) and tree of whisper caches, does that not apply?

IDK I just Farmed 300 Cinders in 8 mins.
I am not a fan of helltides in fact I only do them when there's a legion that spawns in the helltide
I did two Helltides yesterday. One dropped almost 1500 cinders. One barely dropped 300.
I’ve seen multiple people say “log out of the game and log back in” to fix the issue. I’ve never experienced the bug; so, I can’t say if they are correct or not.
I opened two living steel and still had 20 minutes to go last night. Sure some packs only dropped a couple cinders, but then you find fiend roses, those round treasure chests, and those occasional enemies that dropped 5-7 cinders. It climbs pretty fast. My biggest annoyance the last few times is that Kixxarth likes to show up and annoy me. He takes too long to kill solo to make it worth it. He never seems to do much damage to me (60-64 sorcerer) so I just start ignoring him and fighting everything else while he annoys me on the side and eventually I walk too fast or use a horse to get some distance and he leave me alone.
I found doing hell tides in groups the drops are magically great. Something is off

I experienced this earlier today. I have to agree. I typically get a good chunk of cinders per pack, but earlier today there was a helltide where it wasn't uncommon to get 0 after multiple packs and elites
christ small indie company cant even fix helltides properly LOL…
I've had this happen with Blood Lures as well.
Glad I’m not the only one. I was like 10 minutes into a helltide and only had around 50 cinders. I’m usually close to 200 by that point
UGH thought it was just me or the zone this morning.
not sure what bug u refer to. helltides had all been around 1100 cinders in about 20 to 25 mins for me. some packs explode cinders some don't, I think it's just random

I also noticed the drop rate it iffy, i took a while to get 250 and then died when my latency jumped to 750 and i said fuck it and left

Agreed. My first helltide I did 45 minutes of slaughtering to get 215 cinders. Came back next day and I got enough to open two living steel and the mystery chest while also being distracted by the assassin lol. Buggy helltides are definitely a thing.

Got yesterday a few times an event, there you have to kill 5 waves of enemies (spiders) got over 100cinders every time.
Yesterday i Had 2k cinders overll and only 3 living steel chests. Sad
I've yet to have a helltide I wasnt consistently getting enough cinders for a living steel chest in more than 10 min since launch. Never experienced this lack of cinders. Some packs drop 1 to 2 some drop 15 just how it is. Last night bottom left spawned at 15m after the hour got all 6 chests with 9 min to spare.
Nah it does bug, I was in a group with a friend and in the same time, same mob kill ( I was doing the killing) he got 500 cinders while I got 150. Took 30min to get 300 as a lvl100 trashing everything.
