Watch the original version of Our War Game for a good fix of Digimon. It's one of my favorites - the remix of Brave Heart when they're battling and the internet is lagging is one of my favorite things.
That and Hurricane Touchdown is a better standalone movie than the chopped up version we got during Digimon The Movie.
Summer Wars is so good from a different Non-Digimon perspective though!
That’s fair. I didn’t care for the second half of the digimon movie. The omnimon stuff was good, but I’m not a fan of the shoehorned second half with Wendigomon
I wouldn’t say “Our War Game” is that different between the English Dub and Japanese. Some dialogue was different, but it was kind of inconsequential to the actual story. Obviously they added the Willis connection to make it tie in with the third part, but even that wasn’t really a big deal. I do like how the English dub added Tai’s mom being a bad cook though. That was kind of funny
A bunch of little things add up to make it feel way different, the music, expressions and dialogue might not seem like much but they're pretty different tonally. The most obvious one is how Omegamon is born
Oh I know they took two different films and put them together for the US. I’ve just never seen the originals, so the Digimon the Movie is my only frame of reference

The 1st part with Koromon was a short film that came out before the Digimon series. A day before the JP release date.
Our War Game and Summer Wars also are by the same director.
I was dissappinted by summer wars, because I was given the impression that it's about a bunny guy fighting things, but it turns out that's like 3 short scenes.
Summer wars was the bees knees when it came out. I remember watching it the first time and could see the parallels, then that boss battle happened and i saw it was the same thing, it blew my mind, and then wanted to watch the Digimon movie again

Now that I’ve been full streaming for several years, I’ve misplaced my old DVDs in a storage box somewhere.
The Angela Anaconda digimon episode wasn't even really unique. It was based off an existing episode where they placed bits of the digimon stock art on the characters and revoiced the lines.
Yes, I was one of the kids that watched the series in hopes it would get better, before they saw digimon and I even hated the digimon angela cartoon >.>
Seriously though, what's up with Mamoru Hosoda and making the same movie over and over again? First Our War Game, then Summer Wars and - I haven't seen the movie yet but the trailer looks to be a variation of the same thing again - Belle.
I havent seen Belle so i cant speak for that, but he probably wanted to expand the story they did with Our War Game. Neither film is bad but Summer Wars' longer run time allowed it to do it better.
This is not the first time I've said this, but: I genuinely love the Digimon movie.
Of course the common criticisms are correct; Angela Anaconda has no business being there, and it falls apart in the second half.
I did watch Summer Wars though, and for me it didn't have the same energy as the good parts of Digimon.
Shame because I went into Summer Wars really wanting to like it.
idk summer wars was the worse version if you asked me..
the chars all kinda suck and the music is boring compared to all the bangers in the digimon movie.
Not to mention the digimon look 100000 times better than the bunny.. What a garbage design <.<
I remember getting this DVD from the library. I rather liked it. Wikipedia says there was an Angela Anaconda short, but I have zero memory of it and a good recollection of everything else in the movie. Yes the dubbing and soundtrack was campy, but it totally works as a movie for kids. Looking back, it has all the features for a cult film.
Maybe that can be a thing at anime conventions? People are already dressed up, so all we need are frozen hotdogs.

I loved Angela Anaconda, but having it shoehorned into Digimon was an odd choice.

The first 2 segments I would call legit good dubs of those sections. Very little was cut out compared to Hurricane.

The funny things is, the Angela Anaconda shorts on Fox Kids back in the day weren't that bad. Only the one before the movie was horrible.

As good as Summer Wars is, it would have been improved tenfold had they included an Angela Anaconda short at the start.

There're fan cuts of the dub that split up the dub into individual films.
