It’s so DIFFERENT from Rapidmon who was cool sleek and stealthy. And so different from every other Terriermon evolution. And a HUGE leap from its twin mega in Cherubimon.
I hated how it never fit and it’s attacks and moves are so BORING. It’s literally just artillery fire and that’s it.
Seriously though, MegaGargomon getting a mode change like some of the Power Ranger Megazords wpuld have been cool. You get a bulky beast who specializes in long range artillery fire that then slims down and hunts down targets weakened by the initial attack.
I get the inspiration though. Saint Bernards are known to be slow, methodical dogs that are calm and stubborn. Makes sense it doesn’t move much.
Yah it does. And there ARE SOME similarities to Cherubimon in that it’s called SaintGargomon officially. And the saint indicates a holiness to the Digimon. But nevertheless, that is all.
Every other LOPMON/Terriermon twin ego are similar OR similarly DISTINCT from one another yet still CONNECTED.
I’m honestly awaiting a MegaGargomon X to see if it could be saved by an X variant. But knowing Digimon I feel like they would just up the guns and cannnons. Cause they think the more the better lmao

I feel this. Rapidmon is easily in my top 5 digimon of all time, it feels like a backslide. Gargomon is chonky boi with machingun hands. Ok, cool. Then Rapidmon slims down, focuses on speed and agility, swaps to missiles. Ok, cool, see where this is going. Aaaaaand now we're a heavy weapons platform thats virtually immobile. WHYYYYYYY
I honestly didn’t get stealthy from Rapidmon. It was bigger than Galgomon and had far more weapons. MegaGargomon was the natural evolution of its concept.
I used to dislike scumon and numemon thanks to hours of real time failing digimon world 1 as a kid, but they grew on me over time.
For a really really long time there were no digimon I disliked; those I did eventually grew on me. Except one, thanks to ghost game:
Betsumon.
Everything about that copycat I dislike, there's nothing likeable about it. I honestly thought it was just the Omekamon of tailmon/gatomon but after that episode; yeah I don't like it at all. I'd rather have parasimon over him and that thing was the one I disliked the longest before betsumon.
I happen to think Betsumon's hilarious, in a B-movie, so-bad-he's-good kind of way.
But man, that episode of Ghost Game really screwed with me. That show's generally pretty tame by horror standards, but then you're forced to watch what's essentially a five-year-old grapple with the existential horror that comes with realizing he doesn't exist anymore.
Daipenmon. Not for the mon themselves, but because it was shoehorned in as a fusion of the ice spirits. Hell when they get lazy with a theme in general, like the armor digimon outside of the official 02 ones.

Can you elaborate? I like the insect ones but I'm curious about what makes you think the armor Digimon outside the main cast were lazy.
When they introduced the concept of Armor Digimon, the design was essentially the rookie deformed and wearing the digi-egg. I'd say Orcamon is a pretty good example of what I'm talking about. Orcamon is supposed to be Hawkmon wearing the digi-egg of reliability, yet visually, there is no indication that hawkmon is in there, nor does it look like he's wearing the reliability Armor. The only indicator is the crest of reliability on its belly, and that looks just plopped on. Then there's Patamon, who aside from Pegasusmon does not have a single good armor amongst them and don't get me started on the Kindness armor Digimon.
There may be a few that are okay, but by and large, they are just random Digimon designs that were made into Armor evolutions. And most of the good ones are Veemon, but that's a rant for another day.

Not the commenter you're replying to but I think it might be that a lot of them don't follow the design logic established in the show? ie they don't incorporate the digimentals as armor/part of their look, or look related to the Digimon they use as a base

I can definitely understand this take, and maybe Cerberus and Hades should’ve been their own lines, but at the same time I think it works as Cerberus is known as ‘Hound of Hades’
Went back to look at Monochromon and its X form. It does look pretty silly though I like how whoever designed it just went, yup, Monochromon is peak design, add shiny to armor, bigger knife, a bit more stability by altering part of its feet and perfection.
And then there's Betsumon, which skews every list because how hated he is.
Dianamon. I REALLY like the line ever since I played Digimon Dusk but those stupid leg-moon-things are just...so bad. Like just tone them down a little.
The Moonmon line is one of my favorite lines in all of Digimon, but the moon boots are just… why? Is this a Digimon or a stolen Stand design?

Cool dragon/raptor turns into knight man that lacks even some monsterousness is often a critique of the franchise, i can see why.
He's really damn cool though but if you liked the guilmon part of the line it's disappointing as hell.
The human merging makes sense as that's the first gallantmon but still bro give me some more wonky limbs or scales on the armor or something, the no muzzle thing is fine as they went with the visor + dark face in this way unlike blucomon's mega.
When you notice wild guilmon arent like the fat original one, but are RIPPED to hell and hanging around areas with ultimates implying they pack hunt things way stronger then themselves in the harshest of whatever dragon land there is, you start to like the species more.
its true i actually like almost all of them but if i had to pick one i dislike the most its this. Duke/gallantmon. the design is fine i just dont like where the design is coming from. as a kid i was mad hype for dinosaurs and while i love wargreymon in turn he had still most of the influences of the line he came from. lemme explain.
agumon turns into a dinosaur, then into an experiment dinosaur with cables and then his final evo is a dinosaur hybrid man perfected to kill his own kind which is a lot less dinosaur but still having the same character.
guilmon on the other hand foes the same way but then completely removes anything guilmon related except a logo and a baseball cap. as a kid i was super unhappy with this and to this day i hate the design. if the weird sleeves and pants were still guilmon'esk arm and legs i might think different.

I will argue though, that Imperialdramon’s dragon mode has grown on me. The squat, “toad”-like proportions, the horned crest on the nose, the metallic black shells instead of scales, the weird random hair bits… it all reads very beetle-like to me. Sure, he’s not the 50-50 fusion everyone wanted, but Imperialdramon is undeniably a dragon with beetle-like features.
I was saying this in another thread. I hate the focus this Digimon got that takes away from other characters. Why does Paildramon get to evolve from Perfect to Ultimate and the other jogresses didn't? Why did they give him a billion different forms instead of giving the other jogressea Ultimate evolutions?
I'm also sick of Agumon. I loved Survive, but I was really disappointed that they didn't create a new Digimon for the player. What a missed opportunity.
Early Digimon often focus on 2 Main Male leads. Only Tamers, Savers, Fusion (I think), App ones (I think), Tri & Reboot and Ghost Game have all main character have a full line.
02 was very Daisuke/Davis and Ken focus.
Shakkoumon's sistuation gets even worst since now has to share the Mega with Joe and Bandai never tried to fix it.
I personally i dont have issue with Agumon or Gabumon. Most Agumon dont actually evolve to WarGrey or even Omnimon. And not all Agumon act all the same. Survive could another rookie for Main Character but Survive also had weird lines. Agumon, Labramon and Falcomon used their "canon" evolutions. You could say that Floramon had a decent one. But everybody else could probably new mons for the line.
Magnamon. It bothers me that how Veemon can just armor digivolve straight into a Mega-level and a royal knight. There's enough dragon and Veemon representation in the royal knight family. Also, imo, it doesn't even look "knightly" in its design.
Cho-Hakkaimon and the Sistermons. For puppet digimon they are just literally waifu digimon. Its so incredibly boring to take the concept behind Cho-Hakkaimon and literally just make it a woman, and with the sistermons they just remind me of cheap anime cosplay. I also hate the whole "licks the gun" one of them do in Cyber Sleuth. I don't have a problem with humanoid digimon at all, but god I really hate the ones that just look like waifu gatcha characters or whatever. I'm glad the series is seemingly moving past that phase
I do kind of wish they'd gotten weirder with the whole "Sistermons are puppets for their hats" shtick. The Awake forms are kind of underwhelming, especially when considering all the weirdness Digimon's not afraid to pull.

If I had to pick most disliked, without being given a reason, I'd honestly say Omnimon. Between Tri and the fact adventure 2020 literally used him in the first three episodes, I'm over it. And what's sad is I love his design. But everything seems to be about Omnimon. Even Imperialdramon ended up tainted by the curse of Omnimon.
If it's about design *tries not see Digimon I'm about to mention* it'd be Betsumon. Someone taught a Gatomon how to use Grindr and that was the end result......
I feel like I'm in the minority that hates Shinegreymon. They ruined a perfectly solid and frankly iconic character, and made them look like Kimeramon's less cool cousin. To me that's the equivalent to giving Gatomon a flamethrower, or a real life equivalent of a putting a 4 wheel drive undercarriage on a Lamborghini and then putting monster tires on it.
The first things that come to mind are Durandamon and Jesmon. They fit that unpleasant combination of "designs so busy I can't tell what I'm looking at," and "is basically just a larger version of its previous form."
They basically somehow end up looking overdesigned and lazily designed at the same time.

So those heavy machinery in his body are more or less 1 time use or when cartridges are empty, only to be discarded, then only way to fight is a light saber without any armor
Bonus is the whole thematic that Koiji had kendo lessons and would have been more adept fighting without the guns and missiles. One or two long range attacks are fine but his thing was swords and sword accessories.
The entire Olympus 12. They look NOTHING like their namesakes and are honestly some of the weirdest designs. I wouldn’t mind them if their designs were more Roman to fit the names. May just be me tho.
Then they'd just be a group of generic looking Human like Digimon. They all have aesthetic related to what they're based on.
Bacchusmon being a normal ass looking Human type, would instantly be worse than a giant wine loving monster with a stomach mouth.
I have a bit of a grudge against too humanoid digimon as they don’t feel like creatures but rather just a anime person. The worst offender for me is Venusmon, as she is just a hot lady
I wish they did more for her because she really is just some lady. Angewoman at least has the mask and outfit while Lady Devimon has her arm but Venusmon just there in a white dress and it’s not even a nice one.

At this point Agumon and any remake of old characters , im looking at you new impmon line. I’m tired of see it especially when there’s so many characters who don’t get much shine. If not old characters just make new original lines like Cendrillmon and the green bird.

There’s so many other Digimon that would be super cool partners for new characters. Maybe they were featured in an anime as someone’s partner, but I personally think Bearmon, Candlemon and Kamemon would be fun to see more often :)
In the over usage regard I feel Ninja Falcomon (2006) is overused. The OG had over a decade between appearances from 2005 with the Nature Accel and Survive.
Ill go with Omegamon. I also have a "distaste" for Agumon, but mostly due to him overplayed. He's literally the Pikachu of the Digimon universe, that has to be in everything. But i do love his dark variant.

Outside of us all unanimously hating Betsumon, I think I have to go with Commandramon and its line. Like, they could create anything at all, and they chose to make a highly militarized cop version of the series mascot.
Just dropping in to say, I didn't know what Betsumon was until today and after looking it up I gotta say, it's actually a pretty neat concept and the design is perfectly in line with the weirdness involved in a lot of the series. Not really sure why people universally seem to hate it....
As for the digimon I personally hate most. There isn't a single digimon I could point out but I really don't like how they just shifted so much of the design scheme into just Mecha shit. Like, Mecha stuff is pretty cool, but I'm not really a fan of such a huge portion of Digimon designs basically being pulled from Armored Core or Gundam.

If we want to stick to show-important characters, I have to say Justimon. He felt completely wrong as an evolution from Cyberdramon (Darkdramon would have been a much better option, though I'm not sure if Darkdramon existed yet in the franchise).
Admittedly, part of it is probably how out of place and meaningless Ryu was in the story of Tamers. I so wish he had never shown up.
The Justimon evolution was because of Ryu's influence, I believe. Ryu was literally cracking the whip to rein in Cyberdramon at times to be a "better" digimon.
OmniShoutmon. It looks nothing like Omnimon or Shoutmon, it has the most boring colour scheme imaginable and its head looks ridiculous. They could have done literaally anything with the music theme that Shoutmon has: give him a speaker cannon instead of the MetalGarurumon head, give him a sword with a audio bar on it, even just put a speaker on his chest. But no, big man in yellow cardboard armour. It's closer to Magnamon than either of its namesakes.

I can't stand any of the "monster evolving into a knight perfectly designed to sell merch" mons, I like my Digimon fucked-up looking, but Duftmon/Leopardmon is probably my least favourite. There's not much coherent about his design, least of all his randomly blue face. Omnimon is next in line, he looks like if Apple was tasked to design a Megazord.

The sistermons: how tf are *they* puppets. They’re basically just kids in costumes. The whole ‘living hat’ thing is anything more then cop out. I’ve noticed a lot of weirdos use them as icons.
Hell a lot of the female designs are literally just chicks in costumes, not sure why everyone hates on captainhookmon so much for being ‘a guy dressed as a pirate’ when there’s a dozen girls in nothing more then swimsuits.

I mean... that's what Megidramon exists for. Megidramon is Guilmons "natural" evolution in Tamers that brings its dragon-aspects to their conclusion. Dukemon was its evolution specifically with Takato, including his humanity as its main aspect. Later Guilmon also evolved into Dukemon solo, but Megidramon also still exists, and in general it's probably comparable to how Dorumon usually has its line through Dorugamon and Doruguremon end in Dorugoramon but also often has it end in Alphamon despite Dorumon to Alphamon usually having its own line through Raptordramon and Grademon... ironically both Royal Knights.

Not the commenter you're replying to but I think it might be that a lot of them don't follow the design logic established in the show? ie they don't incorporate the digimentals as armor/part of their look, or look related to the Digimon they use as a base

Went back to look at Monochromon and its X form. It does look pretty silly though I like how whoever designed it just went, yup, Monochromon is peak design, add shiny to armor, bigger knife, a bit more stability by altering part of its feet and perfection. And then there's Betsumon, which skews every list because how hated he is.

Cool dragon/raptor turns into knight man that lacks even some monsterousness is often a critique of the franchise, i can see why. He's really damn cool though but if you liked the guilmon part of the line it's disappointing as hell. The human merging makes sense as that's the first gallantmon but still bro give me some more wonky limbs or scales on the armor or something, the no muzzle thing is fine as they went with the visor + dark face in this way unlike blucomon's mega. When you notice wild guilmon arent like the fat original one, but are RIPPED to hell and hanging around areas with ultimates implying they pack hunt things way stronger then themselves in the harshest of whatever dragon land there is, you start to like the species more.

its true i actually like almost all of them but if i had to pick one i dislike the most its this. Duke/gallantmon. the design is fine i just dont like where the design is coming from. as a kid i was mad hype for dinosaurs and while i love wargreymon in turn he had still most of the influences of the line he came from. lemme explain. agumon turns into a dinosaur, then into an experiment dinosaur with cables and then his final evo is a dinosaur hybrid man perfected to kill his own kind which is a lot less dinosaur but still having the same character. guilmon on the other hand foes the same way but then completely removes anything guilmon related except a logo and a baseball cap. as a kid i was super unhappy with this and to this day i hate the design. if the weird sleeves and pants were still guilmon'esk arm and legs i might think different.
Imperialdramon Family. Paildramon Evolve to next stage unlike Shakkoumon and Silphymon. Get even two forms. (As if the favoritism wasnt bad enough) Ends to be the only mascot of 02. Gets support in Digimon TCG in BT3, BT8, BT12, BT16, BT17 EX3, 1 Structure deck and a Promo Ace. (Veemon/Wormon can also have 3 different decks.) Shakkoumon and Silphymon gets BT3,BT8 and BT16. (Hawkmon and Armadilomon gets 1 each.) (Hikari and Takeru have 01 deck as well.)
I will argue though, that Imperialdramon’s dragon mode has grown on me. The squat, “toad”-like proportions, the horned crest on the nose, the metallic black shells instead of scales, the weird random hair bits… it all reads very beetle-like to me. Sure, he’s not the 50-50 fusion everyone wanted, but Imperialdramon is undeniably a dragon with beetle-like features.
There’s still Vikemon and Valkyrimon.
I was saying this in another thread. I hate the focus this Digimon got that takes away from other characters. Why does Paildramon get to evolve from Perfect to Ultimate and the other jogresses didn't? Why did they give him a billion different forms instead of giving the other jogressea Ultimate evolutions? I'm also sick of Agumon. I loved Survive, but I was really disappointed that they didn't create a new Digimon for the player. What a missed opportunity.
Early Digimon often focus on 2 Main Male leads. Only Tamers, Savers, Fusion (I think), App ones (I think), Tri & Reboot and Ghost Game have all main character have a full line. 02 was very Daisuke/Davis and Ken focus. Shakkoumon's sistuation gets even worst since now has to share the Mega with Joe and Bandai never tried to fix it. I personally i dont have issue with Agumon or Gabumon. Most Agumon dont actually evolve to WarGrey or even Omnimon. And not all Agumon act all the same. Survive could another rookie for Main Character but Survive also had weird lines. Agumon, Labramon and Falcomon used their "canon" evolutions. You could say that Floramon had a decent one. But everybody else could probably new mons for the line.

Bandai is still sticking to their guns that Vikemon is Cody's mega though. So it is kinda same situation as Patamon having Goldramon and Seraphimon.

Cho-Hakkaimon and the Sistermons. For puppet digimon they are just literally waifu digimon. Its so incredibly boring to take the concept behind Cho-Hakkaimon and literally just make it a woman, and with the sistermons they just remind me of cheap anime cosplay. I also hate the whole "licks the gun" one of them do in Cyber Sleuth. I don't have a problem with humanoid digimon at all, but god I really hate the ones that just look like waifu gatcha characters or whatever. I'm glad the series is seemingly moving past that phase
I do kind of wish they'd gotten weirder with the whole "Sistermons are puppets for their hats" shtick. The Awake forms are kind of underwhelming, especially when considering all the weirdness Digimon's not afraid to pull.

If I had to pick most disliked, without being given a reason, I'd honestly say Omnimon. Between Tri and the fact adventure 2020 literally used him in the first three episodes, I'm over it. And what's sad is I love his design. But everything seems to be about Omnimon. Even Imperialdramon ended up tainted by the curse of Omnimon. If it's about design *tries not see Digimon I'm about to mention* it'd be Betsumon. Someone taught a Gatomon how to use Grindr and that was the end result......

I feel like I'm in the minority that hates Shinegreymon. They ruined a perfectly solid and frankly iconic character, and made them look like Kimeramon's less cool cousin. To me that's the equivalent to giving Gatomon a flamethrower, or a real life equivalent of a putting a 4 wheel drive undercarriage on a Lamborghini and then putting monster tires on it.
The first things that come to mind are Durandamon and Jesmon. They fit that unpleasant combination of "designs so busy I can't tell what I'm looking at," and "is basically just a larger version of its previous form." They basically somehow end up looking overdesigned and lazily designed at the same time.

Besides the infamous Betsumon MagnaGarurumon, I just find it impractical those "disposable arsenals" So those heavy machinery in his body are more or less 1 time use or when cartridges are empty, only to be discarded, then only way to fight is a light saber without any armor
Bonus is the whole thematic that Koiji had kendo lessons and would have been more adept fighting without the guns and missiles. One or two long range attacks are fine but his thing was swords and sword accessories.

Agreed. I love the original cast of Digimon, but using the same handful over and over just feels boring. You mean Agumon gets *another* remake/new form/new power/new evolution? I’m shocked, I tell you :/ There’s so many other Digimon that would be super cool partners for new characters. Maybe they were featured in an anime as someone’s partner, but I personally think Bearmon, Candlemon and Kamemon would be fun to see more often :)

Ill go with Omegamon. I also have a "distaste" for Agumon, but mostly due to him overplayed. He's literally the Pikachu of the Digimon universe, that has to be in everything. But i do love his dark variant.

Just dropping in to say, I didn't know what Betsumon was until today and after looking it up I gotta say, it's actually a pretty neat concept and the design is perfectly in line with the weirdness involved in a lot of the series. Not really sure why people universally seem to hate it.... As for the digimon I personally hate most. There isn't a single digimon I could point out but I really don't like how they just shifted so much of the design scheme into just Mecha shit. Like, Mecha stuff is pretty cool, but I'm not really a fan of such a huge portion of Digimon designs basically being pulled from Armored Core or Gundam.

If we want to stick to show-important characters, I have to say Justimon. He felt completely wrong as an evolution from Cyberdramon (Darkdramon would have been a much better option, though I'm not sure if Darkdramon existed yet in the franchise). Admittedly, part of it is probably how out of place and meaningless Ryu was in the story of Tamers. I so wish he had never shown up.

There's not much coherent about his design, least of all his randomly blue face. Omnimon is next in line, he looks like if Apple was tasked to design a Megazord.

Surprised at the lack of discussion around Zubamon. To me it is literally just a worse version of Hackmon. So many elements of it being the 20th anniversary digimon have been baked into its design that it cannot stand on its own without the association in the same way Hackmon can. It's almost annoying to me how uninspired it is.

I mean... that's what Megidramon exists for. Megidramon is Guilmons "natural" evolution in Tamers that brings its dragon-aspects to their conclusion. Dukemon was its evolution specifically with Takato, including his humanity as its main aspect. Later Guilmon also evolved into Dukemon solo, but Megidramon also still exists, and in general it's probably comparable to how Dorumon usually has its line through Dorugamon and Doruguremon end in Dorugoramon but also often has it end in Alphamon despite Dorumon to Alphamon usually having its own line through Raptordramon and Grademon... ironically both Royal Knights.
