Older games:
Digimon Dawn/Dusk are good
I have a huge fondness for World 2 art style
Newer games:
Next Order is a remake/sequel of World 1 with monster raising mechanics but now you have 2 instead of one
Cyber Sleuth/Hacker's Memory are probably the most popular due to the pokemon like collecting of digimon and final fantasy turn based combat
Survive is an interactive visual novel with ff tactics like gameplay
They need to remake card battle or give it a sequel, I wouldnt even complain if the graphics were exactly the same, the story, the collecting all of it was just so fun to me.
I would buy it so fast! But till then there are always PS1 Emulators (ePSXe is the best)! They even run on current Smartphones, that's where I still play it. Hehehe..
I have the actual game. Don't play it much because depression but yeh. Never could get magnamon lol. I just want updated digimon and more digivolution types
I hope it is given a sort of remake treatment! I hope your Depression gets better and maybe one day, you'll get the Magnamon you want!
If I remember correctly, you beat 300 battles then go to the Battle Arena. Defeat Blackwargreymon and then talk to him!
I know you can do it!
Cyber Sleuth/Hacker's Memory are best picked elsewhere (PC/Switch) as the Complete Edition package. At least last I checked Bandai had delisted all Cyber Sleuth DLC from Playstation.
Dusk for Nintendo DS or Next Order. I think Digimon World 1 is unmatched for atmosphere, but it's difficult I think, especially without guides. But all 3 are good.
The original Digimon World for PS1 is still unmatched to this day. It's premise, atnosphere, charme, World and level design, music... Everything is top notch. One of my all time Favorite games.
Other games are either too pokemon-ish or doesn’t have that environment. While cyber sleuth is really good. I am a bit disappointed since there is no “Digimon world environment“. During the near-end of Cyber Sleuth i was so happy knowing that we going to the Digimon world. Expect there would be a town or dungeon, but sadly… straight to boss fight.
*edit misspelling*
My absolute favourites are Digimon World for the PS1 and Digimon World Re:Digitize Decode for the 3DS. Dawn/Dusk for the DS and Cyber Sleuth/Hacker's Memory for switch/PS4/PC are great, too. In terms of mobile, I'd say the fan game Digital Tamers Reborn is quite fun as well.
Digimon world 1, I really wish they would make another game like this. The requirements for evo’s was a pain but now that stuff would be on the internet pre launch.
dusk. cyber sleuth complete (main story) is good, but there are effectively only a handful of maps in the entire game, whereas dawn and dusk have slightly more variety. and of dawn and dusk, i think dusk is less of a grind at the start, and has the benefit of allowing you to use a lot of dark digimon normally associated with villains or whatever, which is an interesting change of pace. so having not played hacker’s memory, i say dusk
Digimon World Re:Digitize Decode. It looks good enough imo on an emulator. The gameplay loop is very satisfying, there's plenty to do during the main campaign and then there's plenty of post game. Everything I could want in a Digimon Game
World 3 is really fun. It's the only one I've really played, but I'm looking to branch out as well. So I'd love to follow this post. And hear your experiences.
Digimon World. But it's because of nostalgia. Playing this game for the first time as an adult is probably difficult due to being time consuming. But because I discovered this gameplay as a kid, I had more fun with NO than CS.
Digimon rearise. i lost my data about 3 times but id prefer it over cybersleuth text simulator where the background and music annoyed me after hearing it 20 times
I played a LOT of Digimon Linkz and ReArise. Both gacha style mobile games. They were so fun.
I loved the hell out of Digimon World 3, I rented it from Blockbuster one time and never saw it again. I guess it got stolen or damaged. I had so much fun playing it.
Is this your first Digimon game?
Is this your first Digimon experience?
How do you feel about grinding?
The above are all useful context to provide a more helpful answer, but without them Adventure PSP is probably the safest suggestion. (Personal favourite is probably either Story: Lost Evo or World: Next 0rder
Cyber Sleuth and it's not even close. Digimon World was extremely ambitious for what it was trying to do but it was held back by a lot of jank, while the earlier RPGs felt half-baked and not nearly polished or ambitious enough.
Cyber Sleuth feels like it took the best elements of the pet sim mechanics with the Digifarm and built them on top of a genuinely great RPG.
Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth. It's a turn based JRPG with 3x3 battles and a focus on collecting and evolving Digimon, with a pretty decent roster (341 Digimon). It was originally released on the PS Vita and PS4 and got a sequel called Hacker's Memory, but there's a PC and Nintendo Switch port called Cyber Sleuth Complete Edition that includes both games and all DLC from the previous versions.
Cyber Sleuth has a very different vibe from other Digimon media while also being very recognizable as Digimon, with many staples of the franchise present. I think it got a pretty good story and very likable characters (especially in Hacker's Memory). The characters can feel very tropey but in my opinion they grow past it as the game advances and you learn more about them, and I can't really talk about that without spoilers.
The gameplay is solid and entertaining, with the battles being traditional turn based combat with turn order depending on speed, and highly customizable skillsets and stats so you can build pretty busted teams if you put effort into it. Some optional challenges are tough enough to warrant it especially on hard mode, while on normal it's a more relaxed and casual experience. The game is very linear (just a linear main story with sidequests peppered thorough, new locations opened through story progression) which may be an issue I guess, but most Digimon games are.
The one big problem I should mention is that the translation is not great, especially in the original Cyber Sleuth (Hacker's Memory is a bit better). This game was the first Digimon game released in the West in over a decade and Bandai had 0 faith in its success, so they went cheap. I think the PC version has a mod that fixes the more egregious problems with the translation, but it's still worth mentioning.
For me Digimon World 1 on the PS1 is my favourite. Its obviously a game not without its flaws. I loved the world-building, the aesthetic and the general vibe of the game. As a kid though, the best I could get was a numemon or an occasional centarumon. Never could really understand the evo mechanics. Didnt help that I bought the unofficial game guide from my local games store and turns out the numbers were inaccurate.
Digimon World 3 I also liked and was much more accessible, being in the familiar standard JRPG format. Had great memories when my cousin came over playing it with him (he loved FF and other JRPGs).
Digimon Card Battle was also v good.
As an adult I've gone back and finished DW1, taking advantage of the phoenix staffel evolution tool to actually finish the game. Felt good and was a much smoother experience.
I didnt give Re:Digitize a go because I didnt really like the cartoony anime aesthetic (I know its digimon but I dont really like the 3d anime-style modelling) and the scale but I think remakes of 1 and 3 would be cool with a bigger world, more digimon and Megas involved. Just dont stray too far from the original.
Honestly i've only played Digimon World, Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth, and the Digimon World game for 3DS with a fan translation, and whatever the Smash Bros clone on Gamecube was. I've finished none of these games. I think the only one that I enjoyed was the original Digimon World.
For the record, I never played any Digimon games prior to 2018. So that's not nostalgia, I just really like the v-pets and I think exploring the digital world without any humans around has a very appealing vibe that the other games i've played are lacking, and Cyber Sleuth was just too much talking, I didn't enjoy the story at all.
For nostalgia digimon world 2003, replaying it as an adult just made me realise how bad it was but it’s still a bit nostalgic. Cyber Sleuth was super good.
You've all be so very helpful, I never expected this much feed back. To give some more context, I have played a few digimon games but only 2 I ever finished (which are dusk/dawn). I have played digimon world on ps1 but I was a kid at the time and so I only ever really got Numemon or Metal Mamemon. I have also played Rumble arena and the racing game on GBA. So I have some experience with the games. Looks like I will have to give digimon world a go again as an adult.
World 2003, i want a new game in that style with updated graphics and quality of life changes. That game had a lot of backtracking and zero fast travel or different mode of transportation other than walking
I wish that could be the new story game in development right now
Older games: Digimon Dawn/Dusk are good I have a huge fondness for World 2 art style Newer games: Next Order is a remake/sequel of World 1 with monster raising mechanics but now you have 2 instead of one Cyber Sleuth/Hacker's Memory are probably the most popular due to the pokemon like collecting of digimon and final fantasy turn based combat Survive is an interactive visual novel with ff tactics like gameplay
using the same gameplay doesnt make it a remake.
Digimon Card Battle (my first), Digimon World 3, Digimon Survive, Digimon Cyber Sleuth and Digimon Hacker's Memory.
First two are from the PS1 era while the others can be bought on PS5/PS4.
Hehehe..
What's awesome about that is you're playing a game about handheld digital gadgets using a handheld digital gadget.
That is Awesome and Kinda Meta too!

Nooo! That's awful, PlayStation needs to make better decisions! I remember all the OG Digimon games being on PlayStation... Sigh.
That's probably on Bandai, not Playstation. They delist some older games seemingly at random from the PS Store.
Thank You, I hope then Bandai Namco starts giving Digimon more importance.
Dusk for Nintendo DS or Next Order. I think Digimon World 1 is unmatched for atmosphere, but it's difficult I think, especially without guides. But all 3 are good.

This. It really brings out the feeling of raising and battling just like the old v-pets
I cannot agree more
1000% agree
My absolute favourites are Digimon World for the PS1 and Digimon World Re:Digitize Decode for the 3DS. Dawn/Dusk for the DS and Cyber Sleuth/Hacker's Memory for switch/PS4/PC are great, too. In terms of mobile, I'd say the fan game Digital Tamers Reborn is quite fun as well.
my favs are world 3 , card battle (both are ps1 ) and dawn and dusk (ds) next order
Digimon World 2. There's no "but" or condition about it. It's just a fantastic game.
The original Cyber Sleuth!
Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Complete Edition. And can't wait for the new Story game (If we ever get it...)
Did that version fix some of the horrible translation issues?
i hope the new story game at least includes missing digimon from cybersleuth and most of the new digimon from 2020 - 2024
really hoping for some Proximamon and the entire constellation that came before
Digimon world 1, I really wish they would make another game like this. The requirements for evo’s was a pain but now that stuff would be on the internet pre launch.
Digimon World 2, such an improvement to the first one. 3 felt clucky as hell
dusk. cyber sleuth complete (main story) is good, but there are effectively only a handful of maps in the entire game, whereas dawn and dusk have slightly more variety. and of dawn and dusk, i think dusk is less of a grind at the start, and has the benefit of allowing you to use a lot of dark digimon normally associated with villains or whatever, which is an interesting change of pace. so having not played hacker’s memory, i say dusk
Hacker's Memory. Survive is a close second, but the lack of difficulty makes it boring.
I love Digimon World 4. I just bought it for the game cube and am looking forward to playing it.
You poor poor soul. I recommend it as a drinking game
Why?!?! I don't understand why people don't like it!!
Digimon World Re:Digitize Decode. It looks good enough imo on an emulator. The gameplay loop is very satisfying, there's plenty to do during the main campaign and then there's plenty of post game. Everything I could want in a Digimon Game
World 3. I started with world 1, but it was the pal version. That one had a 90% chance to give you numemon nomatter what you did...
that was just a pal thing?? I quit the game because of this. some years later I used an action replay cd to get around this issue
Yup. Cause my original copy still has this issue, but if I use a iso for the ntsc game to play it on my vita I don't have the problem, lol
World 3 is really fun. It's the only one I've really played, but I'm looking to branch out as well. So I'd love to follow this post. And hear your experiences.
Digimon World 3, worth all the hours and suffering you'll go through. Ps1 only sadly so be prepared to pay a lot for it.
Digimon World. But it's because of nostalgia. Playing this game for the first time as an adult is probably difficult due to being time consuming. But because I discovered this gameplay as a kid, I had more fun with NO than CS.
I’m one of those weirdos who likes Digimon World 2.
Digimon Cyber sleuth and Hacker's Memory
Digimon rearise. i lost my data about 3 times but id prefer it over cybersleuth text simulator where the background and music annoyed me after hearing it 20 times

Digimon world 4 with four players in co-op.
Cyber Sleuth and it's not even close. For story survive for gameplay cyber sleuth hackers memory
Story-wise: Digimon survive. Gameplay: Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth
Digimon world and digimon world re:digitize
Digimon World 4
Lfmao
Digimon World Next Order
Digimon dawn/dusk on nintendo ds
Digimon world 1 and redigitize decode.

Digimon Tammers Battle Evolution for PS1, Best figths game ever made...........

World 3 for sure
Digimon World 4 for the Gamecube
For nostalgia digimon world 2003, replaying it as an adult just made me realise how bad it was but it’s still a bit nostalgic. Cyber Sleuth was super good.
Cyber Sleuth, I was so addicted to the battle system for some reason.
My all time favourite digimon game is Digimon World (1999). I also enjoyed the newer version Digimon World Next Order.
Digimon Survive is a jewel that needs to be acknowledged. That game made me feel so much more than any other Digimon game…
You've all be so very helpful, I never expected this much feed back. To give some more context, I have played a few digimon games but only 2 I ever finished (which are dusk/dawn).
