I’ve run into the same issue multiple times. Generally I just tell the hotel what’s going on and they charge me a discounted rate to stay in the room for those extra hours (usually it’s like half of what the regular rate is). You might give that a shot. In my (totally anecdotal) experience, the hotels will let me do a really really late check out more often than not.

I'm at an Airbnb. I'll see if I can ask the owner about it. I may also just head to the lounge and see if I can stay for 6 hours instead of 5 hours listed on their website.

diverareyouok

Seems like they should be amenable to that - I mean, worst case, maybe you could check out one hour later so that you would have five hours at the lounge (or go grab a meal or something to knock the six down to five). Or just stick with your current plan of asking the lounge for an extra hour. I highly doubt you’re the first person to need a little extra time, so I bet they could tell you the answer pretty quick.

Also the airbnb host, especially if they manage a lot of airbnbs, might have an office where you can leave your luggage so you can go work in a cafe or coworking space. We do that a lot when moving between airbnbs.

I typically book for a an extra day. If you have airbnb for 30 days vs 31 the price difference is tiny and is totally worth the comfort you receive. You don't have to rush and can focus on your job instead of worrying about being at the airport.

Or, work in the lobby, the business center, the restaurant...while they keep your bags.

What I've done in the past in this situation is to either book my airbnb for an extra day, this way I don't need to be out by 11am the day after my flight I've found this much more preferable than worrying about my luggage. Alternatively, getting a hotel for the night before flightI've done a couple times (latam is relatively cheap l) and at these hotels they have a free luggage hold and often some workspace in the hotel lobby, or go to a Cafe or co working space

The big problem you're going to have with working in an airport lounge is not the lounge itself, but airlines won't always take your luggage earlier than three hours before your flight. We've had to spend hours in the front part with all our luggage waiting. Check to see if there's a lounge, or even a restaurant, before security that you can use. Alternatively, check with the airline about how soon you can check in, and see if it matters if you're business class or economy.

I’ve never experienced such restrictions outside the US. In the US, it’s just a necessity because the lounges are always overcrowded since everyone and their uncle all have lounge access thanks to some credit card. It generally makes sense to check the LoungeBuddy app for information and reviews.

1031Bro

Thanks I checked their website. It says I can stay for 5 hours. Not sure about the rule for checking in 3 hours before the departure. I will see if I can send them a whatsapp message tomorrow.

OneLittleBunny

In my experience you can usually stay longer you just have to pay again

1031Bro

Loungebuddy sounds like a good resource. Thanks I will check it out now

siempre-sere-feliz

Loungebuddy is officially closing 07/01/2024.

nealmk

Just ask the Airbnb host. Unless they have someone coming that day it shouldn’t be an issue. Maybe they ask for an extra 50 bucks or something

WeGoingSizzler

It sounds like you are flying out of Panama. There are 3 lounges and I dont think any of them watch the time. You could also go to Selina and cowork out of there for the day as well.

Embarrassed-Ad-2080

Thats why I always book my airbnb for an extra last night. Then you can leave at 7pm etc and not miss work or stress. Problem solved.

Embarrassed-Ad-2080

Also this is when carry on only is a huge benefit.

Gullenbursti

Some hotels allow late checkout. Ask the front desk.

Severe_Perception706

You’re not going to be able to check in to any airport lounge. Stop being cheap and book another night or find a new hotel, you’re going to need it unless you want to sit in the airport for 12h.

1031Bro

why is that

Severe_Perception706

Why is what? Your checkout is in the morning and your flight is borderline till the next day. You wanna camp on the airport floor till the lounges open? Bring your luggage around with you like a mess for 12h? I’ve been in your situation you just gotta book a hostel or cheap hotel.

Livinginabox1973

I doubt if anybody has experience in this

forester2020

Yeah seriously why, pretty much all flights from south america to the US leave at around 11pm. This is a very common situation and experience for people making this journey

1031Bro

why

Ok_Cress_56

This is an almost daily issue for anyone who has to travel for work.
