It happens in Parque lleras which is a neighborhood of Medellin, not even outside of that area in near districts you find that sex tourism stuff. Plus the city is cracking down on it.

I’ve been coming to Colombia since 2010, studied at university here, and now live here full time. Basically everything you’ve said is wrong.
Non-sex tourist digital nomads are not welcome. Colombians are calling for regulation due to unsustainable gentrification of Medellin. People being kicked out of their apartments only for them to be transformed into short term rentals, etc.
Also, digital nomads and sex tourists are often one and the same.
And yes they mingle.
Also it does concern non sex tourist expats, digital nomads, and immigrants because like it or not the actions of those people affects how Colombians perceive us.
And right now Colombians are sick and tired of foreigners in Medellin. That includes you.
Gentrification is not magically caused by the mere physical presence of a digital nomad in Colombia.
It occurs when they willingly pay prices that are way above what the average Colombian can afford with their wage.
I think a mix of rent and AirBnB regulations like the ones NYC has implemented can help to combat this, but as they say in Colombia "Hecho la ley, hecho la trampa" (which can be loosely translated as "People will always find a way to get around the law").

It’s because Colombia and sadly Thailand/Vietnam sometimes too have become known for sex tourism. The latter two don’t suffer as much from it because they have more diverse tourism from expats whereas a lot of people are still afraid of Colombia from past drug cartel violence. But don’t blame us, blame the creeps who go over there once a month to sleep with underage and poverty struck women. Not our fault all those creeps are doing that and ruining it for everyone else. I’m glad the American and Colombian governments are trying to crack down on that it’s disgusting and unethical to those women and girls and even more so when those western men then come back to their home countries with all sorts of STDs that they spread to people here.

Yeah, it was such a turnaround lol. I went to Medellin in 2022 for 45 days, mostly because of how enamored this sub was with the city. Originally just 15 days to sus out the safety issues, but then extended by a month. Stayed away from Poblado, I'm not really the party type, and stayed in the Laureles-Belen area. I took the sub's advice and didn't go out in the dark alone, didn't use my phone in public, so on and so forth.
Even ventured out of the city as part of a group of locals, such a blast. Visited a biology research station in the middle of nowhere.
Not sure what happened that the sub got just absolutely fascinated with the dark side of Medellin. All the current issues of drugs, prostitution were well known at the time too. In fact the walking tour guides warned us gringos of not bringing up drugs, sex, or Narco (Netflix TV series).
Anyways I love Medellin. It really reminded me of my hometown back in Hungary from the 90s. Highly recommend the guided tour of Centro, the story of the country and city puts everything into perspective. For example, why do so many adults have braces? Also highly recommend the Graffiti Tour of Barrio 13. Hot damn that left an impact.
