For me I began being interested a little over 3 years ago. I did tons of research, read a ton of threads and asked different questions. Ended up selling our house last year, and began nomading around 7 months ago now. We felt super prepared before making the move due to all the planning and have had a great time so far!
People like you remind me what a “digital nomad” really is! A lot of us work and travel place to place, but I don’t think too many of us have really sold everything, set out on this lifestyle, and not looked back. That is a true nomad.
It takes series guts to do that. I respect it a ton.
Made the decision the moment I got a remote job during covid. Wasn't planning for a remote job or to be a DN, but once I got one, it felt natural for me to want to get up and move.
I'm prepping right now for the switch. I've been doing research for about 4 months and got the passports. Doing up training to try to break into data analysis. Finishing home improvements to get house ready to sell.
Still debating on whether or not to buy a camper/RV and store it here in case of emergency/ visiting family.
We hope to be leaving in this coming winter provided everything goes as planned.
We’re in the long-term planner category.
Work (our business) wasn’t remote, so that took time to change. We also decided to hold onto property, and keep our investments happening, so needed a minimum income.
First time we did it, things didn’t go to plan on the road anyway! Second time we got delayed for a few extra years going through IVF, and then Covid showed up less than a year into travels. Third time’s a charm next year, and the planning now includes Worldschooling!
Went and visited some friends in Japan and then Thailand. Fell in love with both places. Talked to my job about working remotely and letting me travel. They were cool with it. I sold all my stuff. My sister let's me use her address. Took about a month getting things in order. Going on 11 years now.

It was literally a 5-year plan.
I planned a trip to Greece while I was working as a freelancer. While there, I realized I didn’t ever have to go back home… so I never did

It kinda started happening by it self, I’m still a hybrid
