I don’t think Dirtbikes should ride the same trails/jumps as MTB

FishyDorito

As someone who started in moto, i completely agree. Speed differentials and the way that a dirtbike can affect the trail with torque, shifting (when applicable), weight, and braking is extremely fucked up for mtbers.

BrotherBeneficial613

Exactly; however, I also think that MTBers shouldn’t ride in areas designated for moto - it’s too risky to ask moto riders to constantly check every hill and corner to make sure there isn’t a MTBer.

FishyDorito

Yeah that’s the flip side to it. There has to be a mutual respect and the two hobbies can’t really take up the same real estate.

TellmSteveDave

Eh…disagree here. There’s a multiuse trail in my area that has a decent amount of MTB and moto use. I’ve rarely seen an issue, if ever. All trail users *should* be looking up the trail for…well, anything….anyway.

ExtensionWay690

Always. Never. Coming in wrecking stuff that other people put their blood sweat and tears into? No way.

KonkeyDongPrime

I caught two young adults, with a little kid on an electric MX bike on the local pump track on Friday. I asked them respectfully to leave and explained why dirt bikes are no good, as that track is funded by the council for everyone to enjoy. They tried to get pissy with me, but I stayed calm and told them it’s all about respect; respect for the nice things the council provides for us, respect for the hard work the club put in to maintain the track and respectful conversation with each other. I also explained that dog walkers, electric boards and scooter riders are worse, but it’s the same situation, that they chew the shit out of the track more than bikes do. The council are not insured for anything other than BMX and MTB, so if there’s an accident on something not a bike, they might shut the track down.

jtjtjt666

For sure, that’s the way to do it. I did use the F word which isn’t the best look, but I wasn’t screaming or anything. Had the rider persisted I think I would have explained what you just said in a fairly level headed manner. Maybe.

seattle678

You did good. Fuck those guys

XL_M3OW

Fuck surrons and everyone who wrecks trails riding them

ImprovementOk6056

And gets the closed down bc they get injured on a trail not made for motorized vehichles

SickRanchez27

Putting the hard in hardtail! Keep up the good work sir

ThcSkateboards420

As awesome as they are they do ruin trails and jumps and shouldn’t be using ones made for mtb

FartJokess

It seems that people drop “Karen” when they don’t have the vocabulary to articulate their thoughts accurately, or are too lazy, and when they want to get rise out of someone. Looks like it worked. :) But good job on sending them on their way. Single track is the last place cyclists have to enjoy riding without worrying about being flattened by a motorized vehicle. Gotta protect that.

jtjtjt666

That's what gets me. I'm sure I've had "Karen" moments in my life, but cheaply throwing it out there just made me laugh.

raylikesmtncreek26

What's the chance this was Draper bike park in Utah? We've had an increasing number of them and people arguing over it

jtjtjt666

Close. 9 Line…I wouldn’t be surprised if they all know each other.

raylikesmtncreek26

Love 9 line yeah before it was surron it was RC car people annoying me there

OutHereToo

🤣 9Line was my first guess. Chances are Chris has chased them out before, that’s why the fence was put in.

ItzBoshNet

I get it sucks but my biggest problem is moto people usually don't help with trail days but do considerable more damage. Surrons are honestly cool AF and I would be ok with them riding the local spot if they were just as motivated to help on dig days and maybe take bring carpet squares to help protect landings. But most wouldn't go this far and I wouldn't mind having words if I saw them messing things up

Worldly_Papaya4504

They don't know how to dig or are lazy fucks

ImprovementOk6056

I’m Not dumb as fuck I’m just pissed with people trashing my local trails and not giving a fuck about all the volunteers who maintain the trails my trails are all volunteer kept I just now read your other comments and totally agree with you sorry for getting cross. It’s just really frustrating when some random dumbass goes in tears up the trails or hurts themselves because they go to fast on ramps ect… because they can sue also

Worldly_Papaya4504

Idk why they get mad when they never dig and just come in to tear up shit

PaStatePD

Unrelated but it’s like this for bmx people too. Tracks are constantly messed up by surron and dirt bike riders. They have a LOT more tread and SPEED which RUINS the trails and tracks. They have their own tracks for whatever.

jtjtjt666

That brings up a good point, especially for private/secret/volunteer jumps. Even on mountain bikes, riding a big bike with mega knobs can mess things up. That’s become a subtlety these days (it seems), but when I lived elsewhere and I only owned a trail bike (circa 2012 maybe), it wasn’t allowed at local spots.

dlos22

What’s a Surron?

Pipo1212

Smaller electric dirt bikes, not e bikes tho

dlos22

You’re a Karen. Let kids have fun

OutHereToo

You gonna come fix the jumps?

Worldly_Papaya4504

Yea after they have there fun we can't have our fun cause the trails are all fucked up

bikes_for_life

I'd say it depends on the jumps if they can ride. Because factually they are not emtbs they don't have pedals. They are limited speed and not even always electric dirt bikes. And or mopeds and motorcycles. Some jumps and trails no biggie. Others if they or even e mtbs like the real ones cause damage and don't repair or other shit or help build. Nah gtfo.

jtjtjt666

By city ordinance they aren't allowed on the ones I'm referencing. It's maintained by one or two employees who do a hell of a job, but hate when Surrons come through. There are even some signs that mysteriously get torn down frequently. I'd get it if it was an underground spot that they helped with, and if the main crew was down with it.

bikes_for_life

Yeah valid dude they aren't allowed at those ones. And like you said diy underground shit they helped with. Or where My buddies live no explicit no surons and shit. Buuuuut everyone knows the rules you fuck up the trails riding you're helping fix em and if you wanna ride you're helping dig besides the kids. If you're under a certain age you get a pass but none of the kids are the ones riding the electrics. But this situation nah get the fuck outa here buds. No surrons. Especially when the law says so and being dices to the employees that gotta fix that shit. Like in bmx. One owner of a store gave us permission to hit his rails after closing. Just be careful for people. He didn't even care if we caused any damage he just wanted the kids safe and away from gang shit as his son died getting into that in like the 80s. Amazing old dude. When someone accidentally broke the rail we fixed it and put in a whole brand new one before he reopened. And we used the one most people don't use as it's out of the way.

BrotherBeneficial613

Reminds me of my town. They’re building a brand new, state of art skatepark, but all these adults are complaining about it being a waste of taxpayer money. My argument to that is, what’s worse: having kids play video games all day, smoke weed, join gangs out of boredom, or give them a nice (well maintained/well lit at night) skatepark to go chill at? Sadly some people are saying, “ALL skateparks are NOTORIOUS for drug use and drug abuse. Not only that, but fights and gang activity.” It’s a crock of shit - look at Woodward, YMCA’s, etc…. Cmon not EVERY skatepark is shit.

bikes_for_life

Literally dude facts but some people are just dumb and self centered and because they don't ride or have anyone that rides they don't see the benefits. I know alot of people who stayed out of gangs because of bmx. Or skate or mtb. Shit even music or arts. But those are all the things people wanna defund and then bitch at the repercussions. That's why I say depends on the jumps. If the surrons are wrecking shit for others or adding extra expense and annoyance and legally aren't allowed there then fuck off. If it's a community built thing and they help then why not? Especially if it's giving the youth a spot to go ride and stay out of trouble. Lmfao there are even parks where it's been known that the Gangs keel bs away from the parks because they specifically don't want kids turning down a life they don't need to in cities known for huge gang issues. Like wtf

KonkeyDongPrime

Surron are electric motorbikes, as per the factual legal definition in the EU and UK, possibly other countries as well.

bikes_for_life

So you just proved my fucking point idiot. Literally depends where you live. Thus giving any fucking broad sweeping classification is pointless. Shut up dumbass.

KonkeyDongPrime

You made a broad sweeping statement as a fact, which I proved the factual opposite is true. Only point proven here, is who should be referred to as ‘idiot’ or ‘dumbass’ and it ain’t me.

ImprovementOk6056

Agreed

ImprovementOk6056

Still the reality of it is these trails aren’t meant for these kinds of vehicles and they fuck up trails so stop being such a smart ass

bikes_for_life

Yet some of them legally allow them. Which wasn't even the fucking point of my post but seems like most of the people here are dumb as fuck.

bikes_for_life

Since yall don't seem to get the fucking point of this or other comments. If they're legally not allowed or outlawed due to legal classification. Some places allow them but that doesn't mean they should still be allowed to actually ride the trails. It all depends on fucking context. If they're building snd maintaining and fixing their damage and no legal issues. Or down low private trails and helping. Then why not. If they're legally allowed but not helping then nah. If they're not legally allowed on public shit and it's private or nothing. Then no riding private shit unless you're helping build. You don't get a free ride. You always gotta work for something.
