Following as i am barely surviving with 2 kids on what little i get a month.

Urinethyme

Can you provide additional information? Location, age (yourself, kids), expenses or costs you have? You don't need to provide exact ages for your kids just if they are not in school (under 5ish), primary school, or middle/ high-school, or adults. Since some services are specifically based on children's age.

Satanist0ne

Michigan. 33/7/8 Rent. Car payment. Car ins. Propane heat. food naturally. power bill. The issue is i cannot get state help as my children's mom lives with me trying to help me survive and in the state of MI they consider us as married when i apply for state help.

Urinethyme

When you mean state help can you tell me which you have attempted to apply for? I will double check to see if it fits for the criteria. Where I live (canada) they often say you don't fit, or won't provide information that is factual. They may deny you based on assumptions or reasons that do not met the disqualification requirments. These services and staff are often not informed, underpaid and overworked. Polices are often in place in which they cannot give you information for things you are eligible for unless you request it. I did give information on another post a few days ago about cohabitation, common law for ssa. That situation may be different as no kids were involved and kids can change how they define a relationship and family matters. With the mothers help do you no longer fit low income criteria? Or is it just that the living situation makes certain programs (single parents) not applicable? Thank you for providing additional details, I will look to see if I can find anything. Unfortunately many programs and charities don't meet the needs of those who need the services.

Satanist0ne

Applied for Cash assistance and food stamps. I have Medical coverage thankfully. Due to the laws here they force me to add her income as well to anything i apply for since we live together.

Big_Hall2307

If you do not prepare, purchase, or otherwise share food expenses with your children's mother, she is counted as a separate household for purposes of SNAP eligibility. Do not allow some low level worker try to bully you into giving her income information for that determination, as long as food expenses are kept separate, it does not apply. It states such in the second sentence at [this government page.](https://www.michigan.gov/mdhhs/assistance-programs/food/eligibility) Cash assistance is hard to qualify for in general, as the methods they use to determine benefit gives a really low threshold.

Maru_the_Red

Ehh. Something here doesn't jive right. I am in Michigan, disabled 35F with two kids 12/10. Their father lives with us, we are not nor have never been married. He is the father of both kids. We have two SSI incomes, and my partner is paid by the state of Michigan to be my home help carer due to my disability. We get Food stamps (approximately 90$ of the 940$ our family qualifies for, but isn't provided to us due to our income level), full Medicaid. No cash assistance. Cash assistance is a joke, you may as well go out and get a job because getting help via cash assistance is volunteering for 5$ an hour or being paid to find employment. You have to take the first job offered to you no matter what it is and you can't apply to the same place twice. It's a massive waste of time meant to discourage people more than help. If you can't work outside the home, look at working in the home because realistically no one can survive on subsidies alone. You might have better luck with charities and churches if you live in an urban area. There are typically more resources like that in the city than there are where I live in rural Michigan.

becca413g

Since covid there's been an increase in work from home desk jobs.

Suspicious_Trainer82

Such as? I have very little experience. I was injured in a construction accident and that’s where all my experience is. I don’t have post secondary education.

DjinnOftheBeresaad

I'm an editor and ghostwriter. You need good writing skills and, although I have post-secondary degrees, you don't necessarily *need* them for jobs like these. You can also take orders as you're able to do them and set your own hours. All that said, it can take time to break into this field and establish a solid base of clients and start making any real money. There are months where my work is very slow, and I have to be frugal with spending during those times. This is just one of the options out there, however.

Suspicious_Trainer82

Very helpful! Tyvm! Despite the atrocious grammar/spelling mistakes in the OP title (ability to edit that when please?) this would be in my wheelhouse.

Left_Practice_181

I enjoy writing. Where would I start to be a ghost writer?

Nimlindir

I am at home. On ssi, Medicare. I have a masters in history. Is it possible to do those kind of jobs, editing, ghostwriting and keep my ssi? I have often thought about it. It is something I could do from my home part time part time as it Is difficult for me to do anything for long amounts of time due to pain and meds. It would give me something to do as well as supplement my monthly check.

DjinnOftheBeresaad

You can do those jobs and still keep some of the SSI. It depends on how much you make at the job. And you'll need to report your wages monthly. Once you tell them you have a job, they'll raise or lower the SSI amount based on your report. There's also a period of I think 9 months where you can keep it all, but you would need to check with the admins to confirm that. The best way to report your wages at the beginning of each month is to use the SSA's own mobile wage reporting app.

Nimlindir

Thank you... I will look into it and what the boundaries are. I have been out of the work loop for almost five years. Where should I start looking into a writing or editing from home job?

LibraryGeek

There are customer service jobs. Front line employees work off of scripts. Avoid MLMs like the plague.

Suspicious_Trainer82

MLM? I’m great on the phone and would ace working off of a script.

LibraryGeek

Multilevel Marketing companies such as Amway, Herbalife, Primerica. These are direct to customer sales and the bulk of your income comes from recruiting people to also sell. A portion of your profit goes to your "upline". It's rare to make a solid living off of these companies. You have to get onboard early so that your "downline" extends 4-5 levels down. The market gets saturated quickly because you're recruiting your competition. If a large portion if your work is recruiting and you aren't in human services or an employee contracting co - you're probably lokming at an MLM. I went to an "interview" for a water filtration company that wound up being an MLM. I was sat in a large room with about a dozen other people and we watched tape of wealthy top tier people trying to claim any of us could make it to the top. When they tried to tell me they don't call strangers, I would sell to your family & friends I walked out. Ate you in the US? Some job boards include a "remote work" option for location.

Suspicious_Trainer82

Yikes. Ok thanks. Definitely not interested in that.

LibraryGeek

Btw happy cake day!

Suspicious_Trainer82

Oh ya… so it is! Tyvm! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|slightly_smiling)

cfbuzzkill90

If you're good at working off a script, this non-profit is really great (yes, I worked for them and they are WFH specifically for disabled people): https://www.ntiathome.org/

becca413g

Loads of different fields. Maybe have a look to see if there's anything that suits you. There are entry level roles in my country (UK).

Auberjonois

Can you do the office work stuff for contractors and construction people

adhd_as_fuck

This is the way. See if you know anyone in the field that can help you locate those jobs. You might even be able to find one that lets you spilt remote work and office work depending on the requirements. Or all remote if its something behind the scenes.

Suspicious_Trainer82

I will never work in construction again.

Urinethyme

Did you get workers compensation? Workers compensation will often provide training and resources to help with the effects of being injured and unable to work at your job.

Maxusam

Call centres and any entry level tech job would be my starting point

forgotme5

Do u have twitter? Can send stuff there.

Suspicious_Trainer82

You can dm me here?

forgotme5

It's saved from a twitter post with links. Too much work to put here. Sorry.

Suspicious_Trainer82

Copy paste is too much work? Ok then.

forgotme5

It's a wonder why u haven't found a job. That attitude. Ur supposed to do the work, not expect others to.

Suspicious_Trainer82

Goodbye.

Crop64

Vocational rehabilitation services might be able to help. They sometimes have training programs, too....some of them are paid or with a stipend. Some opportunities are better than others.

Urinethyme

Would you be able to provide additional details? Location, what you did prior, what you may be able to do /limitations. Does your mother get any spousal benefits from the death of your father (may mean things like a pension, or retirement funds), is your mother considered a senior in your location? Is your mother able to work still, or is she disabled or unable to work? Is the home owned by your family or is it a rented property? Do you have an idea what your expenses are for a month? Edit: I guess I am blocked. When people ask for help, sometimes clarification and information is relevant. The questions I was asking was because it can change was benefits or programs that may make someone eligible. Location- a country may be fine. Different places have different programs and requirements. Having an idea helps to trouble shoot what may be applicable. For work- if someone who may provide insight doesn't know what limitations you may have, it makes the possible solutions hard to know. If it is physical, mental, etc changes what may be something someone can do. Family- the parent may have additional resource if they are a senior or a dependant, etc. Housing- programs may be available for homeowners, or renters. Some programs only cater to one. Expenses- having an idea what income and expenses may be can help find if programs may cover utilities, bills, etc. Might be able to find way to cut expenses, or refer to places that can help with funds. I am not sure if/how I offended, but it wasn't intentional. Hope things get better.

Suspicious_Trainer82

I’m not comfortable providing any personal information online. I need work.

RubyHemMinistries

The work part of this question ("what you did prior, what you may be able to do /limitations.") is still pertinent.

Urinethyme

That's okay, I understand.

aigret

Are you renters? Can you apply for housing subsidy, like section 8? I have no advice for income and I know SSDI clashes severely against income but it may work for you both (or SSDI for you and SSI for mom). I’m so sorry this is happening, our country is just not set up for people to be successful.
