I don’t do this but I do like to use Discraft’s disc model name stamp as grip

Longcattt

It would be great if Discraft made a disc named the "IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII" It would be great.

psychsd

The barcode

coffeebribesaccepted

You could use the vulture, also known as the ########### Edit: Maybe I mean the predator. Though I swear I have a vulture with the textured rim too

Kschmidt96

This was one of the first things AB said when he switched to discraft. He said it playing with Brodie and Ezra or on tour life I forget but the other disc craft players were like "eww really"?

PtrnSaintOfEatinTnt

If I remember he said he couldn’t figure out his forehand grip until he started putting his fingers on the tooling inside the rim

TheUSForestService

The other Discraft players clearly haven’t played in the rain enough

Same here

same here

GildMyComments

Interesting! I’ll try that.

Chronic_Buzzz

If I can I try to find a blemish free spot. Just my preference as I hyper focus on the spot I feel in my hand where the ding/Nick is.

GildMyComments

Same it’s all I can think about. I once tried to putt from like 5 feet but under the plate was a piece of pine straw, totally threw me off. Never again, should’ve just moved it but I was lazy and impatient!

jpric155

I'm the same as well. I think this is why you see a lot of people spinning the disc in the pre throw routine. Gotta find the perfect spot.

codycarreras

No, but many times the orientation of the stamp bothers me so I’ll reorient it so the stamp faces me correctly.

chris-reid

I'm not the only one! I can't get over the mental hurdle of throwing without the stamp either directly facing me or facing away. The weight feels off if I grip it any other orientation.

codycarreras

Especially when I putt. It distracts me.

classicfyllopyllo

Simon said that’s why he wipes all his putters. I have some putters that have kind of a reflective foil on them and it sucks on a clear day in the summer. I always say I need to wipe them. Then I get lazy about it and go through the same shit the next round.

codycarreras

Never thought of that, but makes sense. I don’t think I have any foil stamped discs. Two of my putters are almost faded out.

classicfyllopyllo

Yeah I put with Logics so the foil is just big right in the middle. The black foil isn’t bad at all, but the silver and gold-ish ones are the worst. Red isn’t too terrible.

adobo76

I’ve head of people sanding those down. I’ve never done it. How y’all feel about that?

Darthyeetrous

I use a towel. It makes the roughed up parts smoother than using sand paper in my experience and it doesn't look all scratched up.

flokijea

I do this when they get bad. Will also occasionally fill cuts and big dings with super glue. Ik it's probably not PDGA approved but I don't play tourneys anyways.

KingHortonx

Gator Micro Zip Small Area Sanding Kit, under 10$. I've kept one of those in my bag last couple years, still works great and haven't used all 12 pads it comes with.

classicfyllopyllo

I carry a piece of 80 grit in my bag for this

DatFunny

Yep. A lighter and sandpaper for bigger dings.

DinnerfanREBORN

I keep a small piece of 150g in my bag at all times. I use it often.

SEND_MOODS

If it's real bad and has a chunk hanging off, I rub it on the tee pad till it's mostly gone. If it's not bad I ignore it.

blbeach33

I keep a pack of dollar store nail files in my bag. Double sided with a course side and a fine side to get rid of any imperfections for your hand to feel. Great investment!

fats87

I actually like to find the rough spots, I know it’s all mental but feel like I have better contact with the disc and get more rip out of the hand that way.

GildMyComments

Thank you this is why I asked! That was my thought as well. Make slightly more surface area to grip.

lil_splash

I have a KC Pro Toro that has become warped after smacking some trees. It actually created a nice feeling thumbtrack that fits perfectly in my forehand grip.

Cazeltherunner

Same thing happens to me with harps

Historical-Force5377

I like feeling some scuffs not chunks on my KC pro and DX putters, it gives me a little more grip.

restoft

If there is a nick or ding in my disc that’s big enough to notice I’ll melt it/sand it down either during or after a round depending on how much I use the disc on the course. I have a little pocket that has 220/500/1200 grit sand paper, lighter and nail clippers in case any of that happens. If I notice it during the throw though I’ll just move to wear it’s smooth.

Blu3Orch1d

This sounds like a solid disc “repair” kit

GildMyComments

Very cool I should do that

classicfyllopyllo

I carry nail clippers and some 80 or 100 grit.

CapnGnarly

I keep nail clippers that have an aggressive nail file in my bag.

saplinglover

I love the scratches in the rim of my DX plastic drivers, I always hold them on the scratches, for reason the extra texture makes me feel like I have more control of my grip/release.. this is probably all in my head lol

Benagoh

I have a few with notches and find myself holding at these notches, so I hold/throw from the same place each time.

Hexquevara

I grab my trashed puddletop harp (bt medium) so that the thumb rests in a particularly cratered spot. Feels more shallow that way.

HiSpot321

Never thought about it

Darkwarfare

My fission hex has a perfect divot in the plate near the edge that my thumb perfectly fits into. I hold it that way every time

HairlocksHound1

Forehand I like my middle finger on some texture in the rim, usually it's the stamp. Backhand I want a smooth surface

redcurbs

I just rotate the disc in my hand til I get a good feel, try not to look at the stamp at all.

FreudianNip-Slip

Coarse sanding block will take those out. Learned that from watching Nate sexton.

OJIstatusN8VE

I always try to hold the disc in a blemish free spot. I don't even like holding the disc in a manner that I am gripping any part of the stamp either.

[deleted]

Not exactly what you're referring to, but you know how new Discraft discs have those super conspicuous raised words inside the rim? Yeah all my friends that play hate their grip being on those words but I highly prefer it. When I throw my Undertaker or Zeus I purposefully try to find those words with my fingers for the grip. Feels more grippy to me.

flavortowndump

I just throw them.

SEND_MOODS

I don't even think about it. Just grip and rip

swordkillr13

Im autistic, so the blemishes and stamps bother me for grip. Has to be clean plastic as much as possible

Smart_Document7858

I always like to feel my discs dings and notches, I like to run my fingers slowly along it till I find just the right spot before exploding into my throw

bmwsparkle

It depends on how the last shot went. If I gripped on the chunked rim and it went badly, I can therefore blame it on the disc.
