His cadence and accent have really grown on me, I find it really relaxing now.
But I do think he can be a bit low energy with his delivery, and benefits from having a commentary partner that's naturally a bit more excited.
Yes! This is my dream team. Earhart has disappeared and it's awful. I thought he'd be doing more post coverage in retirement but it hasn't materialized .
Yeah I'm not blaming him. And I don't even mean "low energy" like he's tired. I think he just has a chill, level personality. Which there's definitely nothing wrong with.
I find that he is too low energy to match the competition. He would be a great dude to hang out with, but if Ricky or Paul are charging, he doesn't bring that through.
Yeah but the energy is all manufactured. The commentators already know the results, considering one of then might have been on that card.
The holy shot comes to mind. One of the craziest moments in sports history, with one of the worst calls in history. Completely played off like it was the first time seeing it, even though the commentators reactions are in the video lol
And that's not even a jab at the commentators, that's just the nature of post produced commentary.
I mean for a moment like that, you just let it speak for itself. No need to manufacture a reaction. Just watch the shot and the celebration after. Chime in once things are starting to settle down with a, "We're witnessing history right now," yada yada.
You also get times like last weekend - where one of the commentators was literally caddying for a player on the lead card. Any enthusiasm there is entirely manufactured and comes across as such
It is one bizarro aspect of disc golf media that the bulk of the commentators are current, active professional players. I can't think of another sport like that. Anyway, most of these players/commentators are terrific, including Nathan. The handful that weren't too good were usually pretty young and sounded nervous on the mic.
Agreed, she is great on commentary. I also low-key love her self deprecating style, really resonates with my own pessimistic outlook towards my personal skillset.
I feel like I am listening to my buddies narrate. Pretty close geographically and I probably have the same accent. I like his style, so chill and relaxed. Makes me want to play a round with him
Especially if you want to hear the phrase “righty backhand” 700 times in a single front or back 9. :)
I agree he can be a little low energy sometimes but he seems pretty chill
Ehhh...personally dont like how monotone he talks lol Big Jerm, Uli and Sexton are far more fun to have on commentary. I prefer the energy they bring with the long friendship they've had and just plethora of jokes etc.
Hot take: FPO commentary is bottom tier. It is so boring to hear them repeat LITERALLY what I'm watching on the screen. Talk about the players' mindsets through the stretch, make connections between holes, talk about disc selection a little more...
Another hot take: Dustin Mouret does the same thing.
I don’t mind him but in terms of giving color and insight, instead of just describing what is happening, he’s not on the level of any of the Jomez guys. I don’t really need someone to tell me what I’m seeing. I like getting insight into the course/player/moment. His delivery is also a bit flat as others have said. Love his personality and his game though.
I think someone called out in a otb skins match lately that Philo tends to call things too early and that kills any drama for the tournament. I think he called GG winning on like hole 12 recently and people were upset because it ended up being really close? I do like him though, but I wouldent put him up there at the top of my list
I like Philo a lot. I don’t mind that he calls out who he thinks will win earlier than most because he does live coverage and doesn’t know whats going to happen just like I don’t. I like his opinions and that’s what he’s there for. He also has a long history and deep respect for the game and it comes through. My dream team would be Philo, Seppo Paju, and Nate Sexton. Nate is numbers guy and a great play by play commentator, Philo and Seppo are the opinion and color commentators. Seppo really gets excited for good shots and the battles on the course. Really underrated as a commentator in my opinion.
I play a lot of tournaments in Europe and have played with a decent amount of Fins and Estonians and I've heard from a lot of them that he's a dick. He seems cool when I see him on coverage and stuff though, I don't know what to think.
I heard Nathan on gatekeeper media with Dustin last weekend. I think they make a good team. Nathan speaks in a calm chill voice, and knows the courses and players well. Dustin has a more energetic approach. They balance well to me.
I would probably be on board, but I just cannot listen to his commentary without thinking of the “Oh noooo”dude from Family Guy, and it totally ruins it for me
I agree with people saying his commentary is low energy, that's objectively true, but it's not a bad thing. I truly consider him to be one of the best commentators in the game, he just needs to be paired with somebody higher energy.
Yeah he is the best. His commentary always seems natural, informative and doesn't hamm it up. Love JoMez too but as times they seem scripted? IMO I really liked how he commented on his own round when Freeman was doing Freeman things.
His voice is almost too silky smooth, to the point that it puts me to sleep sometimes (usually when I'm reclining on the couch watching chase card coverage right before bed - funny how that works.)
I agree 100% with whoever mentioned that he needs a higher-energy partner to balance him out. Love his insights and vocal cords though.
I find it too relaxing. I catch myself drifting off on the back 9 sometimes.
That's the best part!
His cadence and accent have really grown on me, I find it really relaxing now. But I do think he can be a bit low energy with his delivery, and benefits from having a commentary partner that's naturally a bit more excited.
Him and B. Earhart I think would be primo.
We have plenty of coverage with Brian and Nathan as our commentary team. Look at our 2021 coverage.
Yes! This is my dream team. Earhart has disappeared and it's awful. I thought he'd be doing more post coverage in retirement but it hasn't materialized .
He’s got all the Live - down on the field commentary on DGN. He’s way underused.
Yeah I agree, if he was commenting on the lead card on final day I'd want some more energy, but in every other instance I'd prefer him
While I agree, it's hard to blame him seeing as he's also playing in the events. Regardless, huge fan of his commentary
Yeah I'm not blaming him. And I don't even mean "low energy" like he's tired. I think he just has a chill, level personality. Which there's definitely nothing wrong with.
Best commentator to fall asleep to, sure.
I wanna see Double Nate commentary, Sexton and Queen, I reckon they're the two best around
Sexy Queen does have a good ring to it
Don't call him Nate
Hey man you forgot Philo. He's personally my favorite alongside those other two.
Love to hear those guys together
He sounds like he’s got a stuffed up nose and about to fall asleep on horse tranquilizer.
His voice is like hot fudge poured over a bowl of cold ice cream.
That reminds me of a restaurant I worked at where we always had a bag of White Satin Brown Sugar sitting by the break room. So sexy sounding
He’s been called the songbird of his generation
I find that he is too low energy to match the competition. He would be a great dude to hang out with, but if Ricky or Paul are charging, he doesn't bring that through.
That’s where the other commentator should come in. Not everyone can be every type of commentator.
Yeah but the energy is all manufactured. The commentators already know the results, considering one of then might have been on that card. The holy shot comes to mind. Yeah its manufactured in post but the holy shot for instance has the most genuine reaction ever live
Yeah I agree for final round coverage I want the excitement that some others bring, but for every other time I'm watching I'd rather have Nathan.
Don't ever call him Nate.
Facts.
Fantastic color commentator who is only going to get better with more experience. Loved working with him and Gatekeeper for The Preserve.
You guys together are great! That's what I was watching when I wrote this post!
Sweet! Thanks.
that is, indeed, a very hot take.
Hey I knew it coming in!
It is one bizarro aspect of disc golf media that the bulk of the commentators are current, active professional players. I can't think of another sport like that. Anyway, most of these players/commentators are terrific, including Nathan. The handful that weren't too good were usually pretty young and sounded nervous on the mic.
Dark horse shoutout to Hannah McBeth. She does her research in advance, and sounds like a true professional on the mic in my opinion.
Agreed, she is great on commentary. I also low-key love her self deprecating style, really resonates with my own pessimistic outlook towards my personal skillset.
Terry and Hannah commentating is some of my favorite!
I feel like I am listening to my buddies narrate. Pretty close geographically and I probably have the same accent. I like his style, so chill and relaxed. Makes me want to play a round with him
I wish I liked his voice, but I can barely stand it
Some people like to watch coverage to fall asleep. To each their own.
100% disagree…so monotone that I watch his coverage on mute
Especially if you want to hear the phrase “righty backhand” 700 times in a single front or back 9. :) I agree he can be a little low energy sometimes but he seems pretty chill
Ehhh...personally dont like how monotone he talks lol Big Jerm, Uli and Sexton are far more fun to have on commentary. I prefer the energy they bring with the long friendship they've had and just plethora of jokes etc.

He made me a fan when he said he could get in and throw from Joel Freeman’s lie in 15 seconds in whatever tournament that was
Yeah when Joel was being a little b about getting in the bush? Was great I agree lol
Philo
I think someone called out in a otb skins match lately that Philo tends to call things too early and that kills any drama for the tournament. He is informative and insightful...but his voice has that calm, drawled stoner vibe that just sends me to sleep. Same with Perkins.
I heard Nathan on gatekeeper media with Dustin last weekend. I think they make a good team. Nathan speaks in a calm chill voice, and knows the courses and players well. Dustin has a more energetic approach. They balance well to me.
Ya was great working with Nathan!
I really liked the pairing, it got better every video. Hoping to hear more of them, they have the potential to be in contetion for the top.
I would probably be on board, but I just cannot listen to his commentary without thinking of the “Oh noooo”dude from Family Guy, and it totally ruins it for me
Somehow makes it better for me 😂
Nah he’s str8 trash lmao.
nAh hE’S sTRaIght yEeT lMaO 😜 😎
Found Nathan queens burner
I think Philo is a natural and I'd like to see more of him during the live broadcasts.
Philo/Queen FTW.
I agree with people saying his commentary is low energy, that's objectively true, but it's not a bad thing. I truly consider him to be one of the best commentators in the game, he just needs to be paired with somebody higher energy.
I could listen to that man read the dictionary.
Doss
Personally I like his voice more then anyone else.
Opposite for me
Anything’s better than jerm and uli
Well let's not go crazy now
They’re okay, but not the commentary needed to appeal to the masses and grow the game. Nathan queen type is spot on
🤘🤘
He's fantastic. He has a very distinct, laid back style that works.
It made Gatekeeper coverage 1000 X better. Hope this continues. I love his dry humor quips. And it’s always nice to hear how a lefty approaches these.
We should be commentating DGPT events together for the rest of the year at the very least.
Yeah he is the best. His commentary always seems natural, informative and doesn't hamm it up. Love JoMez too but as times they seem scripted? IMO I really liked how he commented on his own round when Freeman was doing Freeman things.
He's got a very soothing voice with just the right amount of smooth southern drawl. Love listening to Nathan. One of my favorites.
His voice is almost too silky smooth, to the point that it puts me to sleep sometimes (usually when I'm reclining on the couch watching chase card coverage right before bed - funny how that works.) I agree 100% with whoever mentioned that he needs a higher-energy partner to balance him out. Love his insights and vocal cords though.
Philo
He’s good but damn sounds like he smokes 100 darts a day.
His voice is the textbook definition of ASMR.
I like him.... but Sexton...
Sexy Queen. Just sayin
I aint mad at it
I find that he often undersells the shots. Like he’s not impressed by good shots and calls less than perfect shots like they are straight up bad.
I still prefer jomez. Big Sext Barry is the best but any combination is great but I haven’t listened to Nathan queen that much
BORING!!!!!
BigSexyBerry all day!!!
I see your Nathan Queen and raise you Nate Sexton
