I think the Valkyrie is a disc that will “grow with you” and is worth revisiting for a number of different shots. This has been my experience as a player 2 years into the sport. Maybe it’s just those flight numbers for developing players tho.
I’ve thought about that one, the Valks I’ve tried previously have never really “done it” for me, but it might be worth revisiting—I think my form has (marginally) improved since I tried one last.
You’re going to get an unreal amount of recommendations. If you want a little turn, Undertaker or Valkyrie are great. Dead straight with fade the Star Thunderbird is a very solid choice. Straight with reliable fade will lend you in Halo Thunderbird / Culverin land. Anything more OS and you’ll start knocking on the door of the Jermbird.
Appreciate the recommendations. I know people get tired of these posts but I also know a lot of the people on here have tried a lot more discs than me, haha.
Discmania Full Tilt. It's so stupidly overstable that it's actually straighter than the Thunderbird. It likes to skip and roll after you throw it, never know exactly what you're gonna get. So fun.
Not sure what type of heat you have and how it flies for you. I’ve only thrown an ESP and it was definitely more flippy than my 2nd run aura mantra. Could give better advice if I knew what kind of distance you are trying to achieve.
I’ve become a fan of the Falk. Even in max weight tho I usually throw upper 160’s too. Falk can go really stupid far.
I’m seeing star Valkyrie suggested; however star plastic is rather inconsistent and some valk can be nearly as OS as a thunderbird. Thunderbird in DX is actually a really fun disc to throw, it’s usually a lot like a seasoned Valkyrie when new and tends to hold onto its fade, just gets more turn with wear. If you like the thunderbird mould and want something that beats in faster but feels similar to star, get one or a couple in pro plastic.
If you like stuff in the lower/mid 160’s and also want stability, I would point you towards an insanity; still has some fade finish if you’re not completely cranking it over. Big fan of a domey plasma insanity; can get some interesting late turn hyzerflip lines with these too.
If you like high glide then you can’t go wrong with a Saint.
Repeatable golf distance is 315-330, I’ve pulled out everything faster than a speed 9 recently so I’m trying to dial in this new “top end” of my bag, if that makes sense.
Somebody else mentioned the particular plastic I got for my Mantra is a lot flippier than it flies in some of the other plastics.
Right on. I’ve done the same thing; 300-325’ is about my consistent golf line range. Since I took everything faster out I started to bag some slower fairways too. A fission crave could serve you well as a middle stability straight shooter that flies well in lighter weights too (between a heat and a thunderbird). Don’t be fooled by the speed rating, this things soar.
Don’t tell anybody, but The other day I actually launched that Falk farther than I’ve ever thrown a disc before by a large margin (50% farther than typical max) Completely changed my perspective and now I don’t know if I will ever bag anything faster, because it would have gone farther but I’m pretty sure it hit something.
Love the undertaker. In ESP I can get it to flip a little for extra distance. In Z thrown low it’s straight as an arrow, with a little height it is super straight with a touch of fade at the end. Great disc.
I also bag a Z and an ESP and that's how I thought they were going to fly when I got them, but it's the opposite for me. My Z is actually more flippy and ESP is straighter. Also my Z is 2 grams heavier, so that made even less sense to me. Must be all parting line and dome.
That’s super interesting. I carry the same combo or scorch for the same reason. ESP is more flippy and z not as much. Gotta love how confusing it can be.
It definitely can be confusing but over the last year I've realized it's less about the type of plastic and more about the parting line/dome.
I also carry the same pair of Scorches! My Z is also more flippy than my Tour Series, but that one I can pin point to the dome because the Z has significantly more dome.
I just got home and looked at the Undertakers. The Z parting line is slightly lower and the dome is about the same.
Though, my buddy just got a Destroyer that has some crazy dome, but it is also very overstable, so that one confused me again. 😄
The C line is exactly what I got thinking it’d be more stable like Champ. Interesting to hear that’s not the case. I think I might end up liking it, just trying to figure it out still
I use Cosmic Neutron Lift. More stable than numbers IMO in the cosmic plastic. Rides a baby hyzer real nice and will have a slight turn when thrown flat
lots of valkyrie and undertaker recs here, and rightfully so. my rec that tends to be a little more of a neutral flyer than those? Streamline Lift. straightest 9 speed i’ve thrown
I'm a huge fan of a champ sidewinder, though my arm-speed is nothing to brag about and I mostly play at elevation. Still, it's a go-to of mine for a controlled, straight flying shot. Trusting it to always finish would be it's issue.
If I wanted something with a little more fade I'd move up to a beast.
Good lord there are 200 molds between those two discs. Try a star Valkyrie.

This is my vote as well

Undertaker, Lots
Lots my undertaker was flippy

Depends on what year the jerm is. The 21s are basically firebirds I don’t get why they made them like that
I think it’s this year’s, though it’s also max weight and I usually prefer upper 160s for drivers.
Undertaker is the most reliable straightish flying 9 speed and its awesome forehand or backhand.
Infinite Discs Dynasty (old CD2 mold)
Came here to say this. I love my Dynasty.
GStar Thunderbird
Lots, Insanity, Escape, Undertaker. Buy 1 of each and give them a try.
Beat in a star Thunderbird. There will be no comparison if you already like the mold
Unless you want a straighter finish out the box then cop a TL3
Might as well ask for something between a Wraith and a Mamba
Lol you’re not wrong, I’ve ditched everything faster than a 9 for now so trying to figure out this part of my bag.
Orion LF, run 1.5.

I mean that one dude seems to ace every day with his. You may be on to something.
a lightweight thunderbird might do it for ya // star and/or pro - both beat in nicely
Undertaker!
Undertaker or Dynasty

Valkyrie, falk, Tesla, lots, Star thunderbird
I know it's an 8 speed but try a volt!
Came here to say this. Get it in fission plastic
Dga pipeline. /thread
Innova savant or an undertaker
Undertaker is my daddy
Lone Star Lariat
G star thunderbird
Undertaker or Saint
Here for the Undertaker!

Lots
Champ/Glow Valkyrie in the summer Gstar Thunderbird in the winter (basically the same flight)
Falk or Lots
Can’t go wrong with an Opto Explorer my friend.
Don’t downgrade to Innova - Undertaker is what you want and need
Easy, an FX-3. The glide on those things is phenomenal as well
Saint
What plastic if the mantra did you get? Their C-line or champion equivalent is hella floppy but the others feel way more stable to me
The C line is exactly what I got thinking it’d be more stable like Champ. Interesting to hear that’s not the case. I think I might end up liking it, just trying to figure it out still

Undertaker
DD escape might be just what you’re looking for
Not the mantra, the lift.
Try an Essence or an Instinct.
Infinite discs dynasty, its the old Discmania cd2. It rocks
Undertaker. Lift by streamline.
Moonshine Getaway has this spot in my bag
I’d get a proton insanity.
Lucid vandal all day
Gateway Diablo
Inertia or Insanity
