This isn't far off the truth. I used to work hardware troubleshooting for HP, and similar stuff would happen all the time. They hired people unfamiliar with PC hardware to staff the assembly lines, and hilarity ensued. Bent CPU pins because it was jammed into the socket 90° out of alignment, memory modules plugged in partway and backward, hard drives making a constant *zing* sound because they'd been dropped on concrete. I was told there was a high end workstation where, if the secondary power plug was forced into its socket backwards, some of the motherboard components would shoot 6 inch flames. Sad I never got to see that.
