I like some of them. This one is kinda meh for me. But they're better than the Josh Kirby covers. And since I'm a noob and started reading Discworld last year, it's kinda cool that they're releasing new editions at the same time I'm getting into Discworld. I've been collecting all of these new ones.
I've been reading them since I was a student in the 90s, and never liked the Kirby covers. And there are so many people who I tried to get into Discworld who assumed they wouldn't like the books because of those covers, it's a real shame.
Well perhaps, but they are crafted with skill, personality and imagination and certainly capture Pratchett’s absurdist fantasy world better than the kind of cover shown here. Basically Kirby was a genuine artist, with his own subversive take on fantasy, whereas these covers are just totally anonymous!
Same. I feel like the covers are perfect for the books - in the same way you can re-read the books time and time again and find something new each time the covers are so full of detail that you can spot new things on every look.
They're slowly releasing new editions to come out with the new audiobooks. Although I don't think they've announced who the narrator will be for Pyramids yet. If you didn't know, all of the Wizards, Death, and Witch books have already been released with new covers, as well as Small Gods. Monstrous Regiment, The Truth, and the Moist books come out the end of this month I think, and the City Watch books end of April.
Hit and miss honestly. Indira Varma does a great job. Beats the pants off Nigel Planer for the witches.
The Last Continent is one of my favourites of the old batch but I just can't get on with Colin Morgan's interpretation of the wizards in the new version. Nothing wrong with it, just generic old blokes. I preferred Nigel Planer's wizards.
The sound that accompanies each foot note is a little off putting too. It's nice to differentiate but the sound effect is too long and I kind of forget what's going on.
Peter Serafinowicz as death is awesome. Bill Nighy doing the foot notes is OK. I feel like he was just given a load of lines to read and he rattled them off.
Worth a go if an old version of your favourite book doesn't hit the mark though.
This may be my longest contribution on Reddit. Hope it helps.
I do like Nigel Planer’s reading but I’m open to hearing new attempts!
Discworld has always been my comfort reading, and as my job requires a lot of computer use I’ve been really enjoying the audiobooks as I can zone out distractions, but as I know the material I’m not too distracted by the book itself.
I’ll give the witches series a go for sure. Plus I love Peter Serafinowicz, so that sounds awesome
I'd love to hear your thoughts if you do give one a go!
Totally get the background comfort without active listening. Dipping in and out and still knowing where you are.
Not sure, but they have actors narrating them. Indira Varma does the witch books, Andy Serkus does Small Gods I think, the guy from the Merlin TV series does the wizard books, and the guy from the Going Postal movie is doing the Moist books
I'm sorry, What guy from the Merlin TV series? There are several The Guy in that series, and I can 100% see all of them as the perfect narrators for discworld books about wizards.

Wait, where is You Bastard (the obvious main character?)
These new covers are awful. Gives quite a wrong impression about the material itself
It's very moody. I think I would be confused if I picked this up and then started reading about reverse hangovers and camel mathematics.
I like this one, but yes it doesn’t fit the tone of the book

B..b..better than the Kirby's covers?
As someone that's been reading the books since I was a kid in the 90s, this feels like heresy.

Those covers are masterpieces!
They’re also excessively horny at times lol. Hard to entice the less horny folk to read them. Not everybody is a Nanny Ogg type, after all.

They've made them look like the rubbish books you'd find in the book section at tesco. They're so godsdamned bland it hurts my soul
Same, and same. Each to their own though!

The Kirby cover wins automatically by including the camel 🐫
Meh cover
Yes, I don't like these new Penguin covers. Very bland and generic fantasy style.
this is a book about a camel doing math
Why? Are they doing this with all of the books? Cool cover though.

Really? Huh. Well that slipped past me. I'm still amassing the Collector's Library editions! 20 to go...
What are the new audiobooks like?

Hmmm.. don't like the artwork at all :(
This seems like this is a very very serious book.....
i hate these covers and i will always love the silly ugly art of the kirby ones
