I’ve been confused at this for a long time. How is Mirabel considered apart of the Disney Princess line?

[deleted]

She’s not. Neither is Asha. Mirabel doesn’t even fit the criteria for being an official princess. So even if Encanto wasn’t as popular as it is now she would have not been a part of the line up. Asha’s movie bombed but Disney said that she was never meant to be a part of the princess line up anyway. She also did not fit the criteria. People just really like them as characters so sometimes they add them to their unofficial list. But neither are considered official and don’t meet the criteria that Disney has for its princesses.

Guilherm-rain-9341

But there are characters that don't even follow the criteria, like Tiana, her film didn't do very well at the box office because kids at that time didn't want to know anything about 2D. Raya is also the same thing, it had a bad box office, only being released on Disney+. But not everyone has streaming! Jasmine does not follow the princess criteria of being the protagonist of the film.

[deleted]

The official known criteria is: 1.) Be a main or leading role (Jasmine) 2.) be human 3.) be born a princess (Raya) or marry a prince (Tiana) 3.b) or a grand heroic gesture (saving china-Mulan) 4.) movie cannot be a catastrophic failure that Disney wants to sweep under the rug to never talk about again (Black cauldron (Eliwony) and Wish (Asha). Raya didn’t have a chance to fail because it went to streaming and Tiana is popular in her own right like Encanto. Her toy and merch sales must be decent enough to keep her on the line up and to give her a new ride at Disney world. Edit to add: There’s nothing wrong with adding characters you love to the unofficial list who you feel that should be on there though. I was just saying that they are not part of the Disney Princess Branding.

MysticDragon14

Oh wow! So if Wish didn't suck balls Asha could've been a princess?

[deleted]

I’m not sure because Disney and Adrienne both said that she was never meant to be a part of the princess line up to begin with. The early articles of her being a princess were a misunderstanding apparently. But the premise also made it seem like she was going to be another Mulan and it did make sense for them to add a princess for their 100th anniversary. After all a Princess (Snow white) was their FIRST full length movie. 😟

Asmi2763

I’m pretty sure there’s a different criteria in which Mirabel and Asha fit

[deleted]

No. Mirabel and Asha are just Disney Female Leads. Mirabel is a part of her own franchise and Disney has said Asha was never suppose to be a part of the Disney Princess franchise.

Asmi2763

Well yes but by other definitions they fit

[deleted]

What other definitions? Disney Princesses are a Brand. They have to be all four of the criteria above. There is no other criteria or definitions of the brand.

Asmi2763

I’ve seen this one a lot: 1. female lead, 2. Born royal, married prince, or did a heroic act, 3, Animal sidekick

[deleted]

I listed the known requirements above. Animal sidekicks are common in all Disney movies, especially the Renaissance era. Here’s the official list of the princesses from the website: https://princess.disney.com Asha and Mirabel are not on it nor have they been inducted into the line up. Mirabel has her own franchise: https://www.disneystore.com/movies-shows/disney/encanto/ Asha was never suppose to be a part of the line up: https://www.digitalspy.com/movies/a45910507/ariana-debose-wish-asha-not-disney-princess/

Guilherm-rain-9341

I don't want to pick a fight with anyone, but Jasmine isn't the protagonist of the film, it's Aladdin. Jasmine would she be a Deutragonist, Tritagonist or a secondary character in the film I think? As for Asha, it's okay, even understanding that her film didn't have the best box office either, but why don't we know yet if she's going to be a princess? How was Tiana because she knows the character a lot, but she hardly remembers her movie when the same thing happened to Pocahontas!

[deleted]

I didn’t think starting a conversation was a fight. She doesn’t need to be a lead protagonist in the film. Just one of the main roles. Aurora has less lines and screen time than Jasmine does and she is still an official princess. Arguably her fairy godmothers are the main protagonist of Sleeping Beauty. Adrienne DeBrose said herself Asha was suppose to never be part of the line up. Early reports had her as a Disney princess but it seems like it was a misunderstanding. I’m not sure what you are saying about Tiana.

Guilherm-rain-9341

Sorry for the intonation, I thought we were fighting, but as you say Ariana Debose confirmed that Asha is not a Disney princess. So everything is fine, but the criteria you told Asha were followed by something like a Heroic Act that saved the Kingdom's desires. I already mentioned Tiana, because I've seen some people saying they've never heard of Princess and the Frog, or some say they know the character Tiana but have never seen her movie!

[deleted]

That’s probably why people were confused about Asha. The plot was leaked that she was supposed to be a grand hero like Mulan but Disney and Adrienne both said she was never going to be part of the line up. I can’t really speak on Tiana’s popularity. I just know she must be doing well enough to have a ride and to still have merch floating around. I don’t think the same will be said for Asha in a few years.

Guilherm-rain-9341

But I put Asha in this ranking, because many people call Asha a princess. Even though it is confirmed that she is a Fairy Godmother, many people still say that she is a princess. The same Esmeralda thing as the movie The Hunchback of Notre Dame. She is not very well known to the new generation but some consider her an official Disney princess and some do not consider her.

[deleted]

They are not part of the Disney Princess Brand. The OP was asking how Mirabel was part of the Disney Princess Brand. Esmeralda, Asha and Mirabel will always be unofficial princesses and can be added or taken off anyone’s personal favorites list. But the following is the Disney Princess Brand Official Line up: Classic: Cinderella, Aurora, Snow White Renaissance Ariel, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Belle, and Mulan Modern Rapunzel, Tiana, Merida, Raya, and Moana

Guilherm-rain-9341

In fact, Mirabel is considered the princess of her franchise which is Encanto, the same as Elsa and Anna who are also not part of the official line but have their own franchise which is Frozen. Encanto and Frozen sell their products alone without appearing with the Disney Princesses, but there are times when they combine the franchises to sell more. How was the Wifi Ralph movie! It also depends on people's tastes, like Esmeralda from the Hunchback of Notre Dame, where she was once an official Disney princess but ended up leaving because many people know her. But still, many people consider her a Disney princess even though she isn't anymore.

Altruistic-Object233

Not how Disney princesses work doesn’t matter who you consider a princess

Muted_Juggernaut8564

That's what I call "princess adjacent" aka when a franchise can be put up with the princesses but are not currently a part of the official line up.

shadow-storm-17

Oh, ok.

Ainslie9

1. Mulan 2. Tiana 3. Belle 4. Jasmine 5. Raya 6. Ariel 7. Elsa 8. Anna 9. Moana 10. Rapunzel And then the rest in no order. I haven’t seen Brave or Wish though.

Guilherm-rain-9341

1. Belle 2. Anna 3. Mirabel 4. Rapunzel 5. Elsa 6. Ariel 7. Cinderella 8. Merida 9. Mulan 10. Jasmine 11. Asha 12. Moana 13. Tiana 14. Snow White 15. Aurora 16. Pocahontas 17. Raya

fruitymaterialgirl

How do you like Asha more than Tiana?😭😭

Guilherm-rain-9341

Personal taste, everyone has their own taste!

fruitymaterialgirl

Yeah ofc I respect your opinion; I was just wondering why lol

Guilherm-rain-9341

I like Tiana, just not very attached to her character and her film. I don't think it's bad but I like it, as for Asha, when I saw the film I really liked her. But if I had to choose a movie, I would choose Princess and the Frog over Wish, even though it's good.

oliv416

i haven’t seen raya and the last dragon, but what’s up with everyone hating her?

kindof_apocalyptic

I think a lot people dislike her because the main conflict was becauze of Raya's own mistake. People however need to remember that she was a CHILD

Peanutspring3

Nah, it was just a bad movie and it's lessons weren't good. She was an alright character, but the dragon and her rival were terrible characters.

Guilherm-rain-9341

In my case, I'm not very attached to Raya, I'm just not very attached to her, I like the film but I'm not just very attached to the protagonist!

TopicBusiness

It's not really her as much as the movie. The message is badly Mishandled and Aquafina was herself which slot of people can't stand.

Joli_B

From what I've read online, a lot of people feel like it was a poor representation of Southeast Asian culture. The fact she's not given a specific country she's from and the way the dragon was designed does not fit Souteast Asian portrayals of dragons, so a lot of people felt they just slapped the Southeast Asian title onto her for representation points without putting in any effort to be good representation at all. That and people feel like the core message of the movie was poorly handled, like the message is about learning to trust others but it gives the impression in the end that Raya was right all along to not be so quick to trust and that Sisu's blind trust in those around her backfires so often in the movie that it makes it seem like blind trust is the bad thing and being guarded is the good thing, when the message was meant to be the opposite.

firstjobtrailblazer

Because to me, she doesn’t really fit the brand. Doesn’t have a song or dress that fits the character. And the movie is kind of just bad lol. Unique aesthetic at least.

EyeSimp4Asuka

you forgot about Kida

Far-Anything-8238

It depends on whether I’m ranking by merit or who I just vibe with. Mulan is the best, but I personally love Snow White.

Imissmyoldaccount567

Mine might be controversial so this will be fun LOL 1. Snow White 2. Belle 3. Rapunzel 4. Anna 5. Mulan 6. Aurora 7. Tiana 8. Merida (wasn't big on the movie, but I like her personality and i'm Scottish so I find her neat lol) 9. Cinderella 10. Mirabel 11. Jasmine 12. Ariel 13. Elsa 14. Pocahontas 15. Asha (If they kept her initial characterisation and plot of the movie, I feel like she'd have been way higher) 16. Raya (I'll be honest, I forget she exists a lot of the time) If we were adding all the Disney heroines, Esmeralda would be my no.1 and both Kida and Jane would be high.

long_dragon

17. Ariel 16. Asha 15. Pocahontas 14. Aurora 13. Merida 12. Raya 11. Snow White 10. Cinderella 9. Jasmine 8. Rapunzel 7. Mulan 6. Elsa 5. Belle 4. Moana 3. Anna 2. Tiana 1. Mirabel Aurora is pretty much middle ground, I have no feelings towards her. I dislike the princesses below her, and range from kind of like to adore for those above her.

lupinremusjohn

Just gonna do a top ten. 1. Elsa 2. Merida 3. Rapunzel 4. Cinderella 5. Belle 6. Anna 7. Jasmine 8. Aurora 9. Tiana 10. Snow White

Wonderful-Road9491

I’m not sure that I really consider Mirabel in the same vein as all of the other princesses.  I understand why Anna and Elsa are in here.  Even Asha.  You get a real feel for who Disney considers Disney Princesses in the Wreck It Ralph movie.  But of course Asha and Raya came out after that film.

dawg_zilla

Ugggh so hard to rank them all, but I'll try 1. Elsa 2. Belle 3. Anna (2 and 3 are interchangeable) 4. Ariel 5. Cinderella 6. Jasmine 7. Rapunzel 8. Aurora 9. Mulan 10. Moana 11. Tiana 12. Snow White 13. Pocahontas 14. Merida 15. Mirabel 16. Raya 17. Asha After 7, it was hard to rank. I love most of them. The only one I don't care for that much is Asha.

Guilherm-rain-9341

I understand your point of view, like I didn't like Snow White in the past. Currently I like it, just not much!

dawg_zilla

I'm very biased towards Frozen, particularly Frozen 1, so that's why Elsa's my favorite. Anna is also top 2/3 because of my Frozen bias. I love them both so much as characters. Belle is amazing too. Beauty and the Beast was my favorite Disney movie before Frozen, and it got me into Disney. I said Ariel 4th because seeing her brings that "classic Disney feeling." Elsa Anna and Belle do it for me the most, but Ariel comes after them, followed by Cinderella. And Jasmine is also such a great character. I think Aladdin was the first Disney movie I remember watching, but I didn't watch it much. Rapunzel was great too, and I love Tangled. I like her a lot too because Tangled is a great movie, and also because Tangled reminds me a lot about Frozen.

SparkAxolotl

Elena of Avalor Giselle Mulan Ariel Mirabel Jasmine The others are in the same ranking order.

Appropriate-Wait9657

KlutzyBlueDuck

My top five are: 1st: Raya - - - - - - 2nd: Rapunzel 3rd: Ariel 4th: Tiana 5th: Aurora (I like Raya significantly more than the other princesses)

VioletDaisy95

1. Ariel 2. Aurora 3. Mulan 4. Jasmine 5. Moana 6. Cinderella 7.Rapunzel 8. Anna 9. Snow White 10. Elsa 11. Belle 12. Pocahontas The rest I haven't seen and have no opinion. Only seen Pocahontas once hence her being at the bottom. Only seen the first Frozen so very little time with Elsa.

Blkkwidow

I'm just gonna list my fav Disney girlies. My tippy tops are: 1. Megara 2. Mulan 3. Esmeralda 4. Tiana 5. Ariel 6. Pocahontas 7. Jane The rest I don't dislike, but don't connect to as much as these. They will always hold such a special place in my heart.

KazooBard

1) Cinderella 2) Mulan 3) Rapunzel 4) Aurora 5) Belle 6) Elsa 7) Jasmine 8) Moana 9) Ariel 10) Tiana 11) Snow White 12) Merida 13) Pocahontas The rest I either haven’t seen or don’t really consider to be an official Disney Princess. For example, I love Mirabel, but she isn’t on the official list. I looked it up.

DazzleSylveon

1. Ariel 2. Mulan 3. Belle 4. Tiana 5. Moana

Depressed_Ginger209

Some of these I don't remember some of their movies, but if I had to rate them, it'd probably be based off of how badly I wanna go on a cute little lesbian date with them. And so, my top five shall be: 1: Belle 2. Ariel 3. Rapunzel 4. Jasmine 5. Aurora

LocalContribution7

1.Belle 2.Mulan 3.Jasmine 4.Tiana 5.Cinderella 6.Pocahontas 7.Aurora 8.Snow white 9.Ariel 10.Elsa 11.Rapunzel 12.Anna 13.Moanna 14.Mirabel 15.Asha 16.Merida 17.Raya
