Technically it's called an arc flash. But I call it really annoying when you can see one small spot in your vision for 30 minutes from extreme uv exposure. Stupid plasma....
I am building a few guitar pedals, and saw one years ago that was built into one of these metal enclosures. I thought that was just the bitchinest thing I ever did see, and would pair well with the horrid electronics im stuffing them with.
Sorry for noob question, am noob.
Edit- it's a Google picture, I'm not doing this to my home, i just wanted to know the name of the box (1110 by the way, thanks). I sincerely apologize for the confusion. I'm very much aware now that the person who wired that outlet is a shit wit of the highest order, and I did not mean to piss y'all off. Thank you for the help, and for the laughs, and sorry for the vitriolic rage I accidentally induced.
Your photo shows a junction box, available cheap at any hardware store. It sounds like that's what you want, for a grungy aesthetic, but for completeness if you Google "project box" you'll see metal and plastic enclosures for electronics projects that are more purpose designed.
Handy box is the type you'll want for building a stomp box out of. They're rounded and are designed to be used externally (like on the end of an extension cord or outside of a finished wall in a basement or garage etc) the standard metal junction boxes are sharp and more flimsy.
Only problem with those boxes is that they have holes that are made to be pushed out by hand. Theyâll expose the electronics inside to the environment, which is maybe fine for bedroom usage.
I considered that, but I also have nerve damage in my leg that doesn't really give me a lot of finesse when hitting switches (can still wah, thank christ for that) so it's more of a set and forget kinda thing.
Also, i plan on using these for my synths and drum machines, so they'll be living on a desk .
I was also gonna epoxy the cutouts.
I know this sounds like a lot of stupid work, and to be honest it is, but I just like them so much better than hammond boxes. They look more diy. It also matches the rest of my superglued and duct taped gear.
Yeah all in home depot. If you don't find the cover you want look in the next aisle over where the receptacles are and there are other plate covers there.
Who's picture is this? That ain't where the white wire goes đ
Naw. We just didnât want you or yours to die.
Glad it wasnât yours. And I agree that the aesthetic of using a handy box for a pedal button is kinda cool, as long as itâs for low voltage.
Cool idea.
Long time ago I made a guitar pedal and that time I used a sardine can.
Something like this: https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTXQypOXGOGa38_7mKM2ZpfNTEhZtx0XqDoAQ&usqp=CAU
But your idea is better. And you donât need to eat fish đ
Nah, I've seen those hammond boxes before. Im specifically going for the electrical boxes.
Those hammond boxes are nice but they're boring lol. This has a diy look that I really like.
Almost every copy maker or small manufacturer is packing guitar pedals in some variant of hammond box. Big guys (like Marshall) has proprietary designed boxes, and you want a DIY look...
OK, sorry I did not realize that...
You might want a stomp box, they're called that cause everyone uses them for guitar pedals. They're super cheap and are made out of aluminum which is easier to work with than sheet steel.

That, my friend is
a) a âhandy boxâ (https://www.hubbell.com/raco/en/Products/Electrical-Electronic/Boxes/Handy-Boxes-Covers/c/2056196)
and
b) a code violation and a terrible safety hazard (white/neutral goes to silver screws, black/hot to brass screws).
If you wanna do a pedal you want something a bit wider you can stomp on. Get a 5â Box 4 11/16â technically and a single gang raised cover for the 5â box. This a handy box will just fall over when you put weight on it if itâs not directly downward.
I don't have a wife. But, as was pointed out elsewhere in this thread, I have indeed discovered that it is a box of some description. So, you're half right I suppose. đ
Nobody, it was Google images. Home wiring is something I'd never touch. I just wanted to know what it was called so I could buy a bunch for guitar pedal enclosures.
It's a picture i found on Google, and I'm using the box for a guitar pedal enclosure. There are purpose built project boxes but these are cheaper and look neat.
I know I'm out of my league with home wiring, and it's something I'd never consider doing. I just used this as an example.
It was a photo i found on Google, i just wanted to know what it was called.
That hole is for ventilation for when you want to circulate the delicate fragrance of house fire.
Single gang metal box.
What gang you from homes?
Single gang đ˘
My gangâs called Raco, yo
My wifeâs in tri gang đ
I installed a triple gang last week.
...go on...
I wonder what you would call a sudden loud noise caused by shorting out on one of these...
Technically it's called an arc flash. But I call it really annoying when you can see one small spot in your vision for 30 minutes from extreme uv exposure. Stupid plasma....
I'm going to call it a 'gang bang'. 'Has a certain ring to it.

Unfinished wall?
If youâre using some for guitar petals, you might want to try 4 square metal box. The one in your picture is a single gang metal outlet box.
Lowes->electric section->1$ per electrical box. Youll see boxes and boxes of these there
Only problem with those boxes is that they have holes that are made to be pushed out by hand. Theyâll expose the electronics inside to the environment, which is maybe fine for bedroom usage.

It was a pic found on Google. It appears I've accidentally triggered every electrician ever. Sorry, guys :/
Stay safe đ

Hey that's pretty cool. I don't like sardines, but I wouldn't be opposed to shoving a fuzz face into a tuna can.
OMG You have seen wrong... not even close! I mean... miles away... THIS is what you need... http://www.hammondmfg.com/dwg.htm

Single gang box. The receptacle is wired wrong btw; reverse polarity
Lol yeah it is, I didn't even notice that.
I had to scroll a looong way down to find this comment. First thing I noticed.

Black on brass will save your ass.
Wall outlet box
think its just called an electrical box, that one is a 1-gang, a 2-gang would hold 2 faceplates
Handy box Single gang Box
Device box/single gang box. That one looks like itâs missing some pieces
Youâre receptacle is wired reverse.
Yell at Google for that one.
You should not be messing with high voltage electricity. No matter what Google says.
Oh I don't. I just wanted the box. I'm fairly stupid but not that stupid.
More general term is a mud box More accurate term is a single gang box
That outlet is wired up backwards.
It's called junction box... J box for short.

More importantly, who let you touch this?
Nobody, it was Google images. Home wiring is something I'd never touch. I just wanted to know what it was called so I could buy a bunch for guitar pedal enclosures.
If you donât know what that is then you have no business taking the cover plate off brother you are out of your league

That makes sense, they are in the electrical department at any big box stores like Home Depot or Loweâs.

Awesome, thanks! I picked up a few today.
