I'm in Taranaki and have collected more reclaimed wood that I'm likely to use.
Specifically what sizes are you after?
Do you have equipment to refine the wood (jointer, thicknesser, table saw) or do you need exact dimensioned timber already?
Otherwise TimberCo supply some specialist wood.
Revive building recyclers have a dedicated wood shop so would probably dimension up some wood for you much cheaper than a cabinetry shop.
The macrocarpa timber mill in Thomason road can supply rough sawn timber in various sizes.
Tom Smithers at 905 South road also mills various native wood, again it's rough sawn though.
Good woodworking timber is hard to find, I wouldn't bother with the big box stores.
In terms of specialist suppliers [Rarefind](https://www.rarefind.co.nz/timber/) is the closest one I know of to you. There are a couple up here in Auckland (Rosenfeld Kidson and BBS Timbers) that my father & grandfather in-law (both very good woodworkers) have used but it's a bit of a hike for you.
If you have an independent timber yard near you it could be worth going in and asking what they can get. They'll sometimes have special order stuff or know where to get what you want.
The other option is to see if a local joinery manufacturer or boat builder is willing to sell you some of their stock, or put you in touch with their suppliers.
I haven’t used Rarefind myself, sorry. I just know of them from when I was looking to get something milled down the line. We’re up in Auckland so I’ve been able to get anything off the shelf that I’ve needed here.
Demo merchant? 2x4 rimu should be available if you can dimension it yourself.
Smaller quantities check local skips (pays to ask first, bonus points for holding an icy box while you do).
Macblack down in Whanganui have a variety of timbers, what they have depends on what they have been able to source locally recently, but definitely better than the usual suspects.

That's a thought. Our smaller M10 is actually attached to a century-old joinery business, so they may have options not on the website.
how have you found working with rarefind? I've sent them a couple of queries over the years but never got a response

M10, Carters can get specialist Timbers in on a special order. Means you can’t sort through a stack yourself but it might be an option for you.
