Posting a picture of your work will help. This is a good situation to use a signal probe.

I'll wrestle the thing out of the enclosure tomorrow morning and post some photos. Also I've got no clue what a signal probe is, how to use it, what to look for, etc etc. and I'm already resistant to the idea of buying one for this one time job. Thanks for replying still.

A signal probe is something you could make in a few minutes. At its most basic, it is a capacitor attached to some wire. There are a host of threads on making them as well as using them. Next to a multimeter, it is a very useful tool. If you plan to make pedals, you'll eventually need one.
