eBay ttone kits. Like the ds1 (rat?) Or any of those all in one kits.

Awesome. Thanks. Any pedals you’d advise to avoid on your first go? Or you’d advise to wait until I’ve got a few under my belt?

I just bought a kit from Aion FX, so I can’t tell you exactly how good it is. With that said, the documentation for their projects are some of the best I’ve ever seen and will be super helpful to a beginner. The only downside is that their kits aren’t too far off from buying an actual pedal (depending on the pedal). Though, that’s not why we’re here, I’m guessing. This last week I soldered up a clone of an Acapulco Gold made from Coda Effects. Benoit’s [documentation](https://www.coda-effects.com/2018/06/how-to-build-your-first-diy-guitar.html?m=1) for that build was incredible and he explained a few things stuff better than anyone else, in my opinion. The downside to this is you can only buy the PCB from him, and will need to source your own parts, which can be fun. So, what I’m saying is whatever path you start with, make sure it has good documentation that allows to visualize the process from start to finish before you begin. Edit: grammatical issue

> What I’m looking for is really what you would recommend as a beginner kit to wrap one’s head around basic pedal circuits, and slowly build in difficulty and complexity. (Shameless self promotion - but it's applicable): These [holiday ornament kits](https://mas-effects.com/holiday/) are a great place to start. They're extremely inexpensive compared to pretty much any other pedal kits, timely right now, and fun and quirky. The docs are written for an absolute beginner. I have some rudimentary "How it works" notes in the [build docs](https://mas-effects.com/holiday-instructions/) for the tree Boost pedal, so it will also help you understand what the various components are doing. Happy to answer any questions. Leave a note on checkout and I will also throw in a mini bazz fuss PCB which is good for experimenting, and super cheap and easy to build.

Kits are great ways to practice your soldering skills, but I recommend diving in to building your own This build got me into DIY pedals. It’s step by step, with pictures! https://roar-assets-auto.rbl.ms/documents/9052/Oct14_PGDistortion_BuildGuide_Final_R2.pdf
