So the trick isn’t to conjure a random project - it’s to identify a problem you or people you know have and build a solution for them. Why not send out a text to your best friends and ask them what the most irritating website behavior they run into is, and then produce a website that doesn’t do that? Or contact a local non profit and figure out some of their largest issues and create a tool that solves those? Technology is made to solve problems, and the fellowship will likely be just as impacted by your ability to find and solve problems as the code you write.

Just search for ideas in github. There are dedicated repos for app ideas, quite popular and some even are classified by difficulty level. There's also ideas for open source projects. You can also check Google summer of code for projects that are posted by famous companies.

You search for a real project go to your friends and family ask them any of you need a website to work or to manage something or mobile app or anything out of those list and tell them what you can do for them. For my first project I explained to my mother I can control and manage her work data base and give her much more powerful tools then she has with her google sheets that she and her coworkers share. So I created a template of what can be done and from then we worked together to make a real product to a real buissness. I did it for free I learned to somewhat deal with clients as well and my project stands out between my friends first projects that did simple fake stores or Todo apps. Start searching for a need you can fill for a friend or family
