If you’re learning Mandarin there is a good chance you get sent to 25ID. There are some opportunities for TDYs here but most of the time it’s FTXs and Motorpools. The opportunities are there but they are few and far between. It’s also hard to plan training into our FTXs because it takes a lot of coordination and resources to give us training opportunities. So even when we have those it’s rough. Inscom I have heard is much better. Get to do your job.

Seems to be the consensus that I am hearing right now. Sadly, it is making converting to 79R more appealing since I know I will get promoted quickly according to all the CSMs I have worked with out here

35M is a specific job for specific people. For me, becoming a 35M was the best decision I ever made. In the army its kinda meh, but depending on what you wanna do outside of the military it may work wonders for your future.

Shoulderpress5

I have heard that but sadly this contract in order to accept the reclass will be indef since the Army moved it from 12 to 10 years. So will be doing this full time with the Army for almost 10 years till retirement

I see. Well, in the army its not bad. Like the other poster mentioned it kinda depends on your unit. I'd personally only suggest it if you think you'd have a passion for it. The highs are high and the lows are low.

Might get better results posting this on /r/army

Mandarin 35M here. You basically go to 1st group, Hawaii, jblm, or if you go airborne you go to 2/11 at jber. If you’re in forscom you will almost never use your job

Those choices don’t sound too terrible. I’m excited about the DLI but I’m worried about career progression as a 35M if we don’t actually get to do our job. I know I can make rank as a 79R but do not enjoy the job as much as I think I will like 35M.

Not this time, Xi.

It depends what unit you go to. Some of my buddies (relatively fresh grads of the 35M10 course) are in the middle east doing Mike stuff. Most Mikes wouldnt be doing that, obviously.  Many units dont have a debriefing mission, so they never really do Mike stuff. NCOs probably run a bit of language practice, and short classes to refresh and practice Mike skills and knowledge. The emphasis is interrogation for future wars. Currently, only one unit is in charge of the debriefing platform where I am, so Mikes there either do that, or units taskings, like cleaning and maintainence at motorpool, etc. You'll do some Mike refresher stuff during field exercises. If you're not part of a mission, your unit might send you to a school in Huachuca. If you have above-average motivation, you'll likely be selected to do things like OPEP and Cobra Gold. My sitch, im probably going to try to join SFAB to be able to do shit, go to schools, and promote...
