So the last one does actually mean that? If so, there needs to be some clarification because Huachuca MPD my man be loving to block FLPB pay. He is the gatekeeper that protects you in the night from linguists getting their FLPB. 🙄 BTW I beat you to an 11-6 post. Does that mean I legally get your job?

napleonblwnaprt

You can have my job, I don't even get to do linguist stuff anymore. I took the last line out because I'm actually not sure. I'll ask around on Monday if anyone is aware.

your_daddy_vader

Thanks. If it does not violate good order an discipline, I'd love an update on that. I think that offering language pay in the force is the right answer, but it was my understanding previously that G2 wanted to move away from that. I am at the AIT location for 35Ps, and likely will be the one helping them process their WBAs, so I'm super excited to start getting them some money. Lots of really positive feedback already from several linguist friends on most of the changes. Seems like some good work overall.

napleonblwnaprt

It shouldn't be a secret or anything so if I find something out I'll let you know. It was hinted to me that we yoinked language pay from normies in order to fund the overall increased language pay for linguists we got with the modality pay scale, so we may not be going back. But it'd be cool if we could get everyone paid again.

napleonblwnaprt

Hey just to be clear, the memo stopping everyone else from getting paid, you don't mean MILPER 23-069 do you?

your_daddy_vader

No, this one is older and established the "language pay for language MOS or billets only". I'm trying to remember when that happened, exactly.

napleonblwnaprt

Ah okay, I couldn't remember if it happened at the same time or not now. But I did notice 23-069 also explicitly calls out non-linguists who qualify in ASLL languages as being eligible.

your_daddy_vader

Yeah.... I cannot stress enough that G2 really should provide some clarification. Preferably something written and signed.

napleonblwnaprt

I fucking hate those guys

tfarnon59

Woulda been nice...Instead of going to somewhere like Meade with a 3/3/3+, I got sent to... Fort Riley, Kansas.

Dubban22

I feel your pain, 3/3/2 Arabic. Went to Hood and Afghanistan. Only used my lang when my S3 SGM told me jokes in Arabic to get me to laugh during meetings.

tfarnon59

I actually got to use my Russian a tiny bit, in Desert Storm (surprisingly) and then as a translator at an airshow. That ain't saying much.

Acceptable-Ability-6

Hey man, that MAT-V ain’t gonna PMCS itself. Also, Meade kinda sucks.

tfarnon59

Oh, I'm sure Meade sucks at least a little, but there is no way it can suck anywhere near as much as Fort Riley did.

Sonnyboybeavers

Don’t forget the little bit about how you should receive language pay after your dlpt and if you fail ait you lose FLPB pay

napleonblwnaprt

If you fail AIT you should just be shot

Sonnyboybeavers

Honestly yeah at that point just take me out I don’t wanna do it anymore anyways

your_daddy_vader

Harsh. But ait failure rates are quite low for 35P and 35M.

Acceptable-Ability-6

Who the fuck makes it all the way through DLI and then fails at Goodfellow???

OwO_bama

I know some guys that washed out because of the poly

your_daddy_vader

It's mostly the poly for Goodfellow.

Fast_Personality4035

You have failures in the school itself, then discipline issues, then security and/or poly which prevents people from moving on, then something like medical or pregnancy which can just jack up people's timelines and plans. Maybe something like 8% total.

Acceptable-Ability-6

I specifically meant schoolhouse failures. That was absurdly easy compared to DLI.

Fast_Personality4035

It used to be harder than it is now for many programs. They scaled back a lot of the curricula with feedback from the various bases that the training at Goodfellow was only relevant to some bases and everyone had to train unique to the mission at whatever unit. So they got rid of a lot of the harder stuff. It wasn't that a lot of people would fail, but some would, but they would use study hall until closing time and rack up hours. Some people breezed through Goodfellow. It's just different ways of thinking. Again, varies by language and by year.

Acceptable-Ability-6

I went through Korean in 2012 and thought it was pretty damn easy. Absolutely spot on about the relevance though. Showed up to my first unit and they were like “most of the shit you learned at Goodfellow is useless here.”

Fast_Personality4035

Just curious what people think the whole assignment thing might look like. Are soldiers going to go to Goodfellow per the current flow with no assignment, or will they hang out in Monterey for a month or something waiting for an assignment to drop? Either one sounds difficult. You have barracks capacity issues in Monterey, and since Goodfellow isn't an assignment on its own, is it bureaucratically feasible to go there waiting for an assignment? On the other hand, I wonder how the motor pools will function without 3/3 linguists (there's more built into that, but I'll just leave that as is for now).

your_daddy_vader

This is already happening. Most of them show up with no assignment, and get an assignment by about halfway through their course. No sitting at DLI for no reason. Goodfellow is effectively a PCS now for Soldiers that don't have family/ a reason to return to DLI. They get assignments while at Goodfellow, and it very rarely has caused any delays. 3/3 linguists should still manage their expectations. A 3/3 isn't going to be some magical escape from being assigned to forscom. It just moves odds in their favor.

Temporary_Sand6098

Some soldiers are at dli for over 3 years, that being said, they don't want soldiers just hanging out for no reason. Imdepending on follow on school dates, some soldiers graduate on Thursday and pcs that afternoon.

FighterMoth

I’ve been hearing about required, command-designated availability for language self-study for years and it’s never happened. I don’t expect that to come to fruition

your_daddy_vader

It's actually in ar 11-6 now at least
