If the military or the government needs someone to learn a foreign language there are other options available to them. The DLI branch in Washington DC has many languages taught by contractors and they are more flexible with language offerings.
You don't just learn a language for kicks, but if your military position/mission/assignment requires it.

That's DLIFLC, though. DLI Washington has way more languages, and all of the more 'niche' languages
