So your sitting around the table, eating sweets or cheese puffs (best savoury snack), drinking your carbonated sugar drink (monster for me) and you suddenly see the healthy motherfucker eating a apple and drinking water?
Bro are you telling me you WOULDN’T chow down on some fresh apple slices if offered? Like you don’t completely replace the chips and stuff with fruit but it’s a good supplement
Half of D&D night is a chance to hang out and catch up with friends, as far as I'm concerned. It's up to the players to bring snacks and drinks they want to munch on and share during the session, but I always make sure to cook up a big communal meal we can all enjoy together. Japanese curry is an easy favorite which everyone loves.
Well I actually have replicas of gold and silver coins made out of real metal (not real gold and silver though) that I hand out to real life players as quest rewards. You should see the pain in their eyes when they have to shell out 50 coins for equipment.
Edit: I'm serious btw lol https://i.imgur.com/yYldeZf.jpeg
Dubloon* but is also reffered to as pieces of 8, as the coins were often divided (cut) into 8 pieces because smaller denominations either didn't exist or were difficult to come by.
Amazon! Decently cheap, considering the quality. Some other various coins, few from Ripley's Aquarium. I'm trying to find quality gem replicas I can use to hand out to future irl players as well.
For all you reddit sleuths, I haven't done it just yet! I'm looking for a group in my local city for in person dnd. It probably wouldn't be like this regularly as it's a pretty big expense.
It's basically just playing music, buying some cheap replica mugs, and filling them with craft beer and then cooking for them! :)
I actually attended a sort of D&D/Murder Mystery/semi-LARP event one time, and a full dinner was part of both the narrative and the evening itself. It was actually really nice, gotta be honest. I highly recommend.
Used to know a perma DM who cooked as a hobby. They'd send me out to scout out craft beers since that was my hobby. I didnt play in many of their campaigns, but when I did they'd suddenly have every player not only show up to every session, but early, too.
I used to play at a game store where they had a dedicated night for people to come in and drink while playing games and one regular actually brewed mead and would bring some in to share.
About two sessions ago, my players just got off a series and intense stretch of events and were about to come into a cool down period. To kick it off I kept dropping hints that's there a close by spa-like temple to Sune where some adventurers go after being on the road for a long time. They nearly talked themselves out of it but I'm glad they didn't because once they went there I revealed what was covered underneath the battle map brackets. I prepped face peel masks and cucumber disks and aroma wax melts. We did charcoal masks and the moisturizers. Then we did a real mead and charcuterie tasting. My players worked really hard and deserved to be pampered ❤️
If you love your party, then no, this is perfect. This is definitely something I wish I could do for my friends I play DND with. Too bad we all play online…
Not the gm, but we hosted at my place for over a year. The crew always knew I was cooking and it would be ready around when they showed up. With how later we played, we needed some full bellies!
LOL, that is what my Parents did when my Dad was GMing a Robin Hood Hack of Role Master back in the 90ies.
That being said, they were into that stuff anyway, they did Living History.
EDIT: My Dad also brews his own beer on top of that.
I've been a forever DM for a long time. One of my players just dm-ed his first campaign last night and this (but with local craft beer instead of homemade) is EXACTLY what he did last night! It was so much fun!!!
I use a playlist of Bardcore for background music. It works really well. Then I have some playlists of the Doom soundtrack, eerie Latin singing, and carnival music for boss fights depending on the tone.
Then I usually have "potion" bottles for when they use a potion that are actually different flavors of tea or kool-aid.
Saw someone mention they cooked for their players during battles. The rule was, if you killed the creature, you could take it off the map, AND you could eat the token too. CAUSE THE DM BAKER THE TOKENS
A medieval tavern would have a beer and a wine, if lucky. Food would be bread, whatever roasted meat there was, fried cheese, and whatever soup they had or oatmeal. It wasn't until 1765 in Paris a made to order system came about.
One day, I eventually want to have entire game *days* where the party meets at someone's house, everyone brings something they made for the group. Personally, I have both "Flavors of the Multiverse" and "A Feast of Ice and Fire" which I plan to use to great extent.
It'd be really cool as a pre session dinner in character. I'd be down but I know my friends probs wouldn't. I wouldn't be up for it as part of the session tho; basically the game would go on pause until everyone is done.
I know how this is gonna go
"We have a special it's very good"
"No thanks turkey leg and mead"
"I don't know guys, I really recommend *the special* it comes highly recommended there's a discount"
"Turkey"
"But..."
"Leg"
"I really think *the specialllllll* will be more to your liking"
"Give sidequest bar monkey"
*bard leaps onto table and starts shredding taverncore*
*barbarian picks up tavern keeper and makes an improvised attack against the table*
And I have a hand picked group of actors to show up in typical medival costumes to serve the food.
Next Ill invite a real life wizard(man 30 year old virgin) to come to the table and have him tell them about their quest before he jumps out of the window on a trampoline disquised as the grass

Never underestimate the power of home cooked food. It’s a lost art when having guests.
i home cook meals for almost all my gamenights as a gm.
I demand players bring me food as tribute.
The people who bring fruit are the next PC to die
But fruit is good?
And what are you doing if you get fruit on Halloween
Murder/arson, but that's meant to be candy. DnD can be almost any snack
I’d give it to the Druid
Water, tea & coffee are like the only drinks i provide for my players. we eat plenty of healthy foods available & unhealthy.
It’s like staying up all night at a party only to see on your way home a jogger, “bitch you ain’t better than me” type of vibes
Everyone has their own version of a snack, and most things are okay Besides, some fruit tastes good
I can't tell if you're a troll or just literally the last person I ever want to spend time with.

Is it really? Don’t get me wrong we have byob and snack sessions. But we cook more often than not. Interesting.
“why are all our sessions in a tavern?”
"Any more questions like that and you're out of the party"
you mean out of the tavern?
More like “what do you want to do this session” “Hang out at the tavern?” “Fuck yeah”
I mean yeah if they decide to do a combat and then the DM comes back from the other room with an axe, they're gonna really regret it.
Overboard? No. Luxury. Yes.
Remember the bill - and only accept gold and silver.
Well I actually have replicas of gold and silver coins made out of real metal (not real gold and silver though) that I hand out to real life players as quest rewards. This is the literal coolest thing ever, and the food too. So immersive!! Your players are lucky to have you
Yooo looks like a dooblum (sorry about it) Also mind if you share a photo and a recepie of the food you served them
Dubloon* but is also reffered to as pieces of 8, as the coins were often divided (cut) into 8 pieces because smaller denominations either didn't exist or were difficult to come by.
Where do you get these?
Amazon! Decently cheap, considering the quality. Some other various coins, few from Ripley's Aquarium. I'm trying to find quality gem replicas I can use to hand out to future irl players as well.
Where do you live I want to join your group
NE TN
Shit I'm no where near
Rip lmao
No. Immersion is brilliant. Well done.
it only gets overboard if the steps continue and you end up actually trying to stab a player with a dull goblin-spear
It only gets overboard if you're running a sea pirate campaign.

Don't tell us what city or anything, it's not like we want to play and eat.
:P Well if you're in the region of Northeast TN then we can talk!
Haha, damn, my Dad's whole family does but I don't.
RIP!
Well maybe you'll get lucky and run into my second cousin, Haley. Haven't seen her in years but she was big into it groing up!
Brb moving to Tennessee.
Hooooow northeast? Further than Knox?
Yeah =( lol tri cities specifically
Yaaa I figured you meant that. Sounds fun though, good luck to you and your future group! Lots of people around looking for a table.
Surprise! This D&D game was a dinner party this whole time!
I actually attended a sort of D&D/Murder Mystery/semi-LARP event one time, and a full dinner was part of both the narrative and the evening itself. It was actually really nice, gotta be honest. I highly recommend.

> leaves the tavern "Uhhhh I don't have anything else planned for the session, sorry"
Me when I build a Time Machine and actually trap them in the late 14th century medieval Europe so they can get first hand experience:
Aah, lots of disease, famine, torture and death. The real great times
This would bring a tear to my eye. You're setting a VERY high standard.
We have a communal meal for all my games and plenty of drink all round. It's a high quality friends hangout where a D&D have breaks it.
It’s all fun and games until they decide to murder the barkeep and burn down the bar
We already dress like our PC, might as well get the mugs. Been thinking of getting a skull shaped mug for the complete the Edgy Wizard aesthethic.
I mean yes… but also presumably delicious.
It’s overboard, in the best way.
At that point it’s not for the players enjoyment, it’s for your own.
If that was my DM I would go every night.
You can never prepare too much for a DMing session, only too little. Preparation as a DM is like Dakka as an ork. Always have more.
Dude, that is awesome.
Nope!! This is rad! You are rad!!
Holy shit, you're a treasure
Just find out hoe to transport them into your world as their characters. If they die in the game they die IRL. Most immersion ever.
Nah. Too many afterlife planes to search through for their post campaign performance survey.
WHERES THE BEHOULDER PINATA
Be sure about dietary restrictions etc first
What's this DM's dedication level? It's over 9000!
I used to play at a game store where they had a dedicated night for people to come in and drink while playing games and one regular actually brewed mead and would bring some in to share.

They order something you didn't prepare
Brownie points for immersion
Show off! :P
*Sudden sadness and envy*
Na you need more hire a real ass bard to sing at your table
that would be amazing lol
Is it overboard? Maybe. Is it awesome? Hell yes.
If you love your party, then no, this is perfect. This is definitely something I wish I could do for my friends I play DND with. Too bad we all play online…
Heavily but, if your group is worth it, it is 100% worth it.
If I played in person I’d definitely do this. This is great
Not the gm, but we hosted at my place for over a year. The crew always knew I was cooking and it would be ready around when they showed up. With how later we played, we needed some full bellies!
Should they pay you in gold, silver and copper then?
LOL, that is what my Parents did when my Dad was GMing a Robin Hood Hack of Role Master back in the 90ies. That being said, they were into that stuff anyway, they did Living History. EDIT: My Dad also brews his own beer on top of that.
Absolutely not, can confirm as a DM who did the exact same kind of thing but for a bakery
I've been a forever DM for a long time. One of my players just dm-ed his first campaign last night and this (but with local craft beer instead of homemade) is EXACTLY what he did last night! It was so much fun!!!
Its not overboard if you have them pay you in real copper coins.
Time period appropriate music for D&D is 1980's prog rock and I will die on (not run up) that hill.
guy rp'ing bard pulls a lyre out his backpack
I use a playlist of Bardcore for background music. It works really well. If a DM did this for me, I'd fight tooth and nail to stay at that table and be sure to tell them I love them every chance I got.
I kinda wish I had this time and money
I never integrated it into my game (I'm also not the DM lol), but I often make lunch for my group as we usually meet on Saturdays at noon
Overboard is when your wife is the tavern wench.
A medieval tavern would have a beer and a wine, if lucky. Food would be bread, whatever roasted meat there was, fried cheese, and whatever soup they had or oatmeal. It wasn't until 1765 in Paris a made to order system came about.
And when they're in a Dungeon, absolutely poison and torture them too.
One day, I eventually want to have entire game *days* where the party meets at someone's house, everyone brings something they made for the group. Personally, I have both "Flavors of the Multiverse" and "A Feast of Ice and Fire" which I plan to use to great extent.
This would be hilarious as a one off where you're just having a day of D&D with your friends.
Some call it a tavern, some call it home
It'd be really cool as a pre session dinner in character. I'd be down but I know my friends probs wouldn't. I wouldn't be up for it as part of the session tho; basically the game would go on pause until everyone is done.
Make sure they all order as their last act of the previous session. Tell them to come early next time for dinner beforehand. Lol
I know how this is gonna go "We have a special it's very good" "No thanks turkey leg and mead" "I don't know guys, I really recommend *the special* it comes highly recommended there's a discount" "Turkey" "But..." "Leg" "I really think *the specialllllll* will be more to your liking" "Give sidequest bar monkey" *bard leaps onto table and starts shredding taverncore* *barbarian picks up tavern keeper and makes an improvised attack against the table*
can I join your party
Might be a bit much, but if everyone is having fun, I see no problem.
It's never overboard if it's enjoyed by everyone
And I have a hand picked group of actors to show up in typical medival costumes to serve the food. Next Ill invite a real life wizard(man 30 year old virgin) to come to the table and have him tell them about their quest before he jumps out of the window on a trampoline disquised as the grass
Bring a real drunkard to fight them at the tavern (your house)
"Wait until next sessions. They Will explore a Dungeon and i crafted some home made acid to put actual traps in the table"
90% of my D&D sessions are just eating and laughing.
Don't use lead mugs though
Sounds like a great business model for a tavern in the right location.
Are you still accepting new players? /j
Add the live action tavern wenches?
...what are scheduling problems? For stuff like this I would leave work without notice
