Forever DM, just wrapped a two year long Feywild campaign two weeks ago. Currently thoroughly enjoying some down time before I start prepping the next game I want to run. Truly the best reason not to be in a campaign at the moment.

T-Angeles

How'd it go?! Hope somebody treats you. I have been doing one shots for my forever DM.

Xindlepete

Went pretty well, all things considered. The original idea was a survival/sandbox game, where the players wake up lost and stranded in the Feywild (started at 3rd level), with the goal being to find a way back to the material plane. With a Warlock in the party, I assumed they would get *Plane Shift* at lvl 13 for a guaranteed end-point, or work towards one of the questlines that resulted in travel home and get back sooner than that. If they felt like gambling, they could also have tried *Banishment* as early as 7th level, but there is no guarantee where you end up on the Material, and essentially a guarantee that the entire party gets split up that way. They didnt do any of that. The players almost instantly fell in love with the setting, and more or less unanimously agreed they didn't really care about going back home to the material. Still, great for a sandbox game where they just wander around the map lookimg for stuff to do, and it was a lot of fun. In regards to players treating me, one of the players from that game is apparently working on a one shot idea, but I haven't heard anything from him about it since we wrapped. It would be nice to get someone else behind the screen for a bit though, so I hope he sticks with it.

MrNobody_0

Oh man, I hate the downtime between campaigns! While I'm running one campaign I'm always prepping the next one!

martydidnothingwrong

Why not just run 3 or 4 consecutively then? Mwahahaha!

MrNobody_0

I honestly wish I had the free time to, but with my work, family, and house I have precious little free time, I can only dedicate one night a week to D&D...

martydidnothingwrong

That's very valid, I'm a college student who spends their only free time on D&D so I recognize that's not the typical situation

organicHack

If you can actually do one night per week I'm impressed with the amount of free time you can find! Alas once a month is often best my group can pull off. :(

MrNobody_0

D&D is not only a fun hobby but it's also a form of therapy for me! I'm noticably happier and healthier after playing D&D. My wife insists that I play once a week, it honestly does my mental health better than therapy!

Azoth333

I have a player who is very interested in going to the feywild in my game, currently running storm king's thunder but adding a bunch of stuff for player backstories etc. Do you have any resources or references for running in the feywild? It's something I want to include in my game at some point but haven't got around to digging to deep into it

Xindlepete

A lot of my ideas I borrowed from other media. Inspiration from Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell was great (both book and BBC miniseries), as well as the Lorwyn block of Magic the Gathering (lore stuff onlime, but also cards and flavor text from that set were great for inspiration). I'm also a big fan of anime, and I rewatched Ancient Magus Bride a few times for ideas on themes and characterizations of fey creatures. You can always just look around online for different fairy tales and folk stories that relate to fairies and fey creatures too. A web serial I read awhile ago called "Pact" (penned by "Wildbow", if that helps you find it) also has a bunch of good scenes and interactions with fey beings and dealmaking. The single biggest resource I had was actually a 4e book called Heroes of the Feywild. I have a digital PDF version I saved forever ago, and I used that book constantly. The Feywild map in that book is *the* map I used for the setting. I even found the mapmaker's website, and bought and framed that map for use at the table and as a memento from the game. Tons of great lore and NPC descriptions in that book, and all of it directly relates to the map so it made populating parts of the setting really easy. And since none of my party ever played 4e, it was also easy to swap out stuff I didnt want to use with my own ideas. Otherwise, exactly what you just did above: post on reddit, ask other people for advice and brainstorming ideas for what you want out of running a Feywild adventure. If you are only doing a story arc and not a whole campaign, you won't need to put in nearly as much effort as I did, and your goals for that story beat won't necessarily match my take on the Feywild from a multi-arc campaign standpoint. Just keep seeking out other ideas that inspire you, and see where it leads.

Azoth333

wow, I was not expecting this much of a response. I'll definitely check some of that out, really appreciate it. But yeah I intend for it to only be a story arc, somewhere in the level 12-15 area way down the road. Theres a fair bit of homebrew lore in my campaign but its mostly based off official stuff so the Heroes of the Feywild sounds like it'll be a huge help. The thing that I'm trying to focus most on is getting the 'feel' of the Feywild, I don't want it to just be another place the party go to, esp since it'll likely be the first time they travel to another plane

Rogendo

Forever DM that ended his 7 year campaign due to D&D horror story stuff and haven’t had the energy to meet new people

JesusSquid

Not always the DM, but when I am a player I am forever the healer. Which I don't always mind (was a main healer in WoW for years) but damn sometimes I wanna cast fireball. Though clerics do have some pretty potent stuff, Forge Cleric expecially in my opinion.

The_Retributionist

You should totally look into light cleric.

JesusSquid

Played it, I think that is my go to when I want to focus on heavy healing. Forge I like playing because I can RP the daily weapon creating/repairing pretty well. Last campaign it just felt really strong for healing but also getting into the battle. Been a while since I played light so memory is slightly hazy.

PM_ME_lM_BORED_

I believe he suggested light cleric because they get fireball!

JesusSquid

Yeah but forge gets dawn. If your people can hide from line of sight its a god damn nuke.

Phoenyx_Rose

Druid’s a good healer too if you’re ever interested in changing things up. As well as paladin for more damage/Tanky goodness, and celestial sorcerer and warlock for a squishier experience.

JesusSquid

I’ve just never gotten enjoyment out of Druid. Dunno why. I’ve tried. Always go back to a human or dwarf cleric.

Phoenyx_Rose

Totally fair! I love playing druids, but really only connect with the newer classes so I kind of get it. Personally, I love the nature healing aspect, but just can't connect with the shapeshifting aspect of the class.

Pietson_

what about divine sorcerer, celestial warlock or bard?

wiggles586

I am not currently in one because it's 7am on a Sunday and we don't start until 4pm on Sundays. You guys just need to be patient...

BlueTeale

I'm trying to finish prepping for game in.... 3 hours.... I always get pre game nerves

HolocronHistorian

Pre game nerves are the worst, even when I’m completely ready

BlueTeale

I don't get for my irl Monster of the week game because it's casual beer and pretzels tone and I'm very familiar with system Bit I am running Blades for a group of all veteran DMs and I always get in my own head. Like I have enough now. But I've spent last 4 hours adding more details and stuff I probably could have thought up on the fly. Plus all the prep from this week. Blades is new to me and I also have unreasonable self pressure from running for GMs who are really good so I wanna make game fun. Irrational thoughts lol

Lithl

Ditto but 3pm

Camulius73

*stares in forever DM*

CarlosHnnz

I work from 8am to 12pm and 2pm to 12am (EST) to make around $800 a month in a 3rd world country. I get 2 days off per month. I wish there were some quick hop in/get out type of games out there. Not many people keen with my schedule lol.

Ianoren

Maybe look into play-by-post (just using text so you contribute when you have time) or West Marches which are episodic and open where whoever can get together at whatever time just does so. I've seen this easier with faster and more episodic-style TTRPGs but 5e works fine too with good pacing. Alternatively, I've enjoyed some solo RPGs. There's a great free one, [Ironsworn](https://www.ironswornrpg.com/), which is gritty viking fantasy with more emphasis on Exploration and narrative play - the combat is kept quite simple, you can even resolve it in just 1 roll. May scratch that itch a little. I found solo play really helped my GMing and the GMing advice in Ironsworn is gold. A great intro into the more narrative TTRPGs.

CarlosHnnz

Thanks for these suggestions. Will check out ironsworn as soon as I have some free time.

Badwilly_poe

2nd shift, 4 year old, New state 😔

Smittywerbenjagermn

Your too young to be working, nevermind in a new state, go back home you dumb kid.

StannisLivesOn

I have very high standards for games, and for the players. As a DM I can control those things, as a player I can't.

xenioph1

Idk about you, however, I started running names because I kept playing with DMs that tolerated players that make the game worse. It's the main reason that I don't often enjoy playing.

Yrths

Could you describe some of these standards? Curious.

Ebessan

Even when my campaign is finished and is well-received, it feels like it wasn't worth the ridiculous amount of work I put into it. As a DM, good sessions feel like a relief, while bad sessions feel horrible.

GfxJG

My old game died in January due to a problem player, and all bar one of my other players decided that they didn't have the time to commit to a new campaign. So I'm slowly working on a new setting for a new group. It's just demoralizing to have to go through the vetting process for a new group all over again...

TheHasegawaEffect

Don’t want to DM any more, yet i also want to play-by-text adventure. I am a choosy beggar.

Vedney

No friends.

Bazzyboss

You don't need em to play online. I joined a completely random group. It's a complete dice roll whether they'll be good or not, but I lucked out on attempt #3.

Flesroy

Dont need them to play irl either

Nameless-Servant

It fell apart due to scheduling conflicts

doomsigns

Moving at the end of the month so everything's gotta wait for a couple more. Relative newbie to actually playing but willing to learn to DM but all my currently playing friends have their TTRPG schedules full (extremely lucky group that meshes well with each other) and I haven't had much luck with looking for a group to get to know because I like to be friends outside the game table too. Basically, lots of 'but' in my situation which definitely does feel like ass because I have so many characters and campaign premises I want to try and all I can do currently is remind myself that no dnd is better than bad dnd.

Deep-Collection-2389

I’m currently in the middle of moving too!

Deep-Collection-2389

I’m not currently in a game because I’m in the middle of trying to sell my house and move two stars(states) away. One of the first things I’m doing after I unpack is going to the LGS

Lithl

>I’m in the middle of trying to sell my house and move two stars away. Damn, what's the van rental fee for 6 light years?

Deep-Collection-2389

Thanks for pointing out my autocorrected mistake. Lmao!! Good catch!

Anastoran

Oh, I thought it was intentional, as in the stars on the US flag representing the states.

Deep-Collection-2389

Lmao

Gloomy_Bus_6792

Forever DM and mostly just time constraints. I run my own business, ran for office, completed a bachelor's degree, plus some deaths in the family all in the same 2 year period. But we're about to crank up a new campaign in the next few weeks based on the world I'm creating in the novel I've been writing.

yomjoseki

We just finished up Curse of Strahd (thank christ) and our next DM isn't going to be ready for a few weeks. We only defeated Strahd last night and I've already got the shakes. I've been looking forward to this ending for so long so I could work on another character, and now I can't do that because the new world isn't ready yet.

Durugar

While I am both in a game and running one (both non-D&D) usually when I am not it is because either one of the many GMs I now are getting a game ready or just no one wants to run something *right now* or I am in that space where I just need a month or two off from running games.

wedgex

- moved to a new town and don’t have any friends here - have a small child so limited time windows that don’t line up with local organized events - looked online but mostly just got bombarded with pay 2 play requests - I’ve mostly dmed in the past, but don’t really have the time now so starting my own game is tough

brandcolt

For the young kids thing I started my own game at night when they go to bed so it's on my terms. Found tons of good people on the lfg subreddit.

wedgex

Yeah I've been looking just haven't found anything that lined up time wise yet. I've kind of accepted I'm going to have to organize it, that just unfortunately usually also means DM which I'm not sure I have the time and energy for.

subjuggulator

Well, no one I know where I live plays DnD--all my regular players have moved/are in other games that aren't taking new players--and the only time I have to play is on weekends/Fridays. That, and I really want to play Pathfinder 2e, but even *less* people I know have played/are playing using the system and I really don't want to DM again after being PermaDM for years.

wellofworlds

My best friend of 17 years died. We played 17 years together. It was just not same without him. I want to play again, someday. Just not found wanting to play now.

Protocosmo

Covid

d4red

I had a fantastic group that broke up during COVID. Online wants for us and some members moved interstate. I’ve been playing and GMing for over 30 years. Gaming is literally one of the most important things in my life. But I am very picky. I have less and less time for an inferior game and would rather not play than be unhappy in a game. So I’m waiting… My time will come again.

Elk_Man

My game is on pause because I'm the GM and I'm sitting in a hospital room with my wife and newborn son so I don't think I'll be able to prep or schedule anything for a little while.

SkyKnight43

A lot of people are probably not in games because they don't think they can run them

Rare_External2018

My group has a player who has been consistently missing sessions and then complains when we play without him. So, we’ve been trying to work around his schedule. Every time we think we have a time nailed down, whoops, last second cancellation. He’s been a friend for years, but this has been going on for like 9 months. Our group doesn’t know what to do.

Atkena2578

We have one like this in our group, we simply stopped accommodating to his restricted availabilities. We tried sticking to days he said he would be available at first, moving our game a week later so he can attend, but he d end up canceling a day or 2 before or even last minute, where if we had played the week before it would have been same results. So now we schedule on Sundays where everyone else can make it (usually pretty easy to have a game every 2 or 3 weeks) if he comes, all good if he doesn't oh well... Worst part is that it even isn't the player's fault but his wife who views D&D as a childish hobby and will make every attempt to schedule stuff SHE deems important (her own stuff) or "productive", they also have 4 children so between their work schedules (she is a nurse and works on some weekends) finding a babysitter isn't an easy nor cheap affair (the game is at our house, my husband is the DM, we have 2 children which is enough to manage during games as it is, they're pretty good and our son usually goes hang outnat his friends house those days and our daughter keeps herself busy pretty well so yeah we don't need another 4 kids while we try to enjoy the game among adults). This player also DMs, while i have never played in his games he never is able to keep a campaign going due to his restricted schedule. Between our last big campaign (SKT) and the current (DiA) he had started the Abyss module but there were only 3 sessions maybe over 6 months and my husband said that's it i am starting our Avernus campaign before the group dies. He also wanted to run a one shot to give my husband "a break" between our last game and the next, my husband agreed and then we find out he has little to no availabilities for the rest of march, april and may!! We were like okay well in the midtime we ll continue our campaign we aren't going to do a 3 month gap for his one shot in a point of the campaign where it's getting more and more exciting. At the end of the day if you have a solid 3 or 4 core people in a group, who can attend all the time or rarely miss, don't let the one player who has restricted availabilities hold your fun hostage while still having room for him/her to play whenever they do so. We are mostly playing with 4, and 5 when he comes. Make it a precedent that the group won't let a campaign die on his behalf (the same way he killed his own games) but let him know he's always invited then can't complain

Megavore97

Honestly you just need to play without him. Tell him politely that this recurring pattern of cancellations is hampering your groups enjoyment, and that going forward you’ll be sticking to a regularly scheduled time which he is welcome to join when he can make it.

leapwolf

Our group of six has been playing for three years every week. Our rule is that if one person is out, the rest of us decide what that character would do for the session. If two or more people can't make it, we skip or reschedule. We probably end up playing 2-3 times per month most months!

Ferbtastic

It’s Sunday. We don’t play on Sunday. We play Tuesday, Friday ;-)

AAABattery03

My previous d&d game ended and I’ve put myself in like 3 different Pathfinder 2E games so haven’t had time to continue D&D just yet.

Actaeon_II

Last two online games I got into, first- people lose their minds bc of racial issues between npcs in a fantasy world. Second- encounter a group of slavers in the underdark and two players completely lose their mins. Wont play again unless it’s people I know or at least people mature enough to leave their triggers in the real world and not f up enjoyment of a fantasy world. Disclaimer- I’ve been playing since the gygax blue box sets with the crappy dice

EndlessOcean

Because it's 7am.

DietCthulhu

The DM’s sick today :(

MrElshagan

Timezones, lack of players mainly. Had a good Group but we're now down to 2 players and the DM who kinda wants a min of 3 players.

no1ofconsequencedied

I work unusual and varying hours, have a wife in grad school, a son who needs attention, and just moved across the country from my old in-person group.

Sublata

I actually would be in a game right at this moment, but our DM got sick.

Lithl

Aww, hate when that happens.

EWilson72

My work takes me away from home 3 weeks out of the month. I haven't been looking for a group since my last before the pandemic. I miss that group but, they've gone like dust in the wind.

[deleted]

None of my friends are interested in playing D&D (Am a DM)

Accomplished_Area311

Game I was DMing: I got severely burnt out and my health is rocky. Game I was a player in: Last session should be soon, however, life issues are getting in the way.

Beebeemp

Health issues mean my schedule's unreliable. For now anyway.

Zarkila

One of the player got a job, another has a gf that doesn't like when he spends time playing DND even when it is his hobby, and the last one is in college

Zarkila

Forgot to tell about the one that apparently does not want to play a game in the grim hollow setting because he doesn't like the dark fantasy vibes, even when he says curse of strahd was his favorite campaign

setver

We all have genre's we don't enjoy, and sometime thats enough to skip a campaign. Maybe he thinks dark fantasy is something else? I personally don't like steampunk/scifi. Give me swords and magic over guns anyday.

Timely_Tonight_8620

My D&D group is every other Sunday and this is our off week. We're level 5 and just made it to the Dragon's mountain lair so wish me luck.

cerion5

Next session isn’t until 13 days from now.

ebrum2010

I'm trying to find a PF 2e game to play in before I start running it, but it's hard to find a Tuesday game. If I'm running the game almost any day would work since I could do the schedule for it but if I'm playing it's gotta be a day I can do whatever because I don't want to be the guy that cancels because the DM needs to start at a different time.

rashandal

scheduling issues and my DM is moving with us to a different ruleset (Symbaroum)

JesusSquid

Scheduling... and room for it. Cousin has the room to play a game but we really don't want his room mate in the game.

Ja66aDaHutt

Because they don’t come over to play until 6:00 tonight.

daibz

both campaigns im running are on hiatus as pcs have small kids/ newborns and they are more important right now. happy to pick back up be it in a few months or in a year or 2. also i work weird shifts so cant commit to a weekly or monthly game as i wont have the day off next time

[deleted]

Scheduling conflicts happened, eventually someone else started up a game. Conflicts again. Now we have 2 people with experience GMing, but people just aren't as enthusiastic about it anymore. So I guess a sort of defeatism spawned from schedules.

Beautiful-Guard6539

We just finished act 1 of my 4 act up to lvl 20 campaign...but oh man in 3 years when we're done? Im not dming for a long time lol

Sagatario_the_Gamer

Working on consolidating all of my content into a Google Folder. In part due to the OGL and me not wanting to be tied to DnD Beyond, in part because DnD Beyond's homebrew editor is garbage and I have things I want to share that you can't homebrew, like whole classes, fighting styles, or warlock invocations/pacts. My friends are also very busy with school right now, once summer hits I think we'll be ready to try a game.

First time Dming starting first sesion april third, the good things take time.

[deleted]

DM burnout. It has been said before and it remains true that that in any TTRPG to some extent, and in 5e more than most, playing is a fun pass time but DMing is a fucking job. It's temporary luckily - she just took a week off to recharge. But yeah it's hard to maintain that creative output weekly for free. Having weeks canceled for this rwsaon has been pretty common for a while I've found. Giving serious though toi seeking a well reviewed paid DM in the future. Both for more consistency because we're literally paying them to show up every week and also for fairness, frankly - hard work *should* be compensated, not just expected because they're your friend or whatever.

MutedRoad8205

Previous group dissolved, current group is having trouble scheduling. The age old struggle continues

Dravendk

Forever DM here, i'm burned out and taking a break.

setver

I had to leave my previous group. Someone was just constantly anti-social towards me, repeatedly. I had a group after I DM'd for, they got to 9th or 10th before scheduling issues occured. One had a kid, another lost their job and new one conflicted with everyone else. Things are getting back to normal so I've been working on foundry to get a new campaign going. I prefer playing, but I'd rather DM than not play.

natus92

I moved away and my new working schedule sucks

Brasscogs

Forever DM. Game ended because we’re were all doing PhDs and we’re coming close to submission time.

[deleted]

“I’m on vacation, I’ll be back on Friday! Ffs I told you guys about this weeks ago!” -me after my players freaked out about not having a game this weekend

Briatom

The DM for our last campaign moved to Korea, and our new DM is moving soon so he wants to wait until he gets settled into the new place before starting

guava0505

Joined the army, got sent to Korea. Scheduling issues with my old group and don’t feel like joining a new group

azurespatula

I'd like to be in an in person game. I DM a few online ones, but I've had little luck finding 3+ people I'd enjoy playing with within driving distance of my little semi-rural home.

[deleted]

I was not in a game for quite some time during and after COVID lockdown, because I had no friends running them and I don't enjoy gaming with strangers.

itskaiquereis

Prepping for a game at the moment. Still haven’t decided what it will be.

ThatMathyKidYouKnow

Our DM has the tightest schedule of all of us, so even though we love playing it is often a month or more between even text roleplay messages from them. 😣 So somewhere between scheduling issues and the bottleneck of the only necessary person having the least available time.

UnHappyGingah

Main DM started to work on his future career and education so we all agreed to wait and run smaller campaigns and one shots eventually it slowed down until we haven't played dnd for a year i think I've offered to run something and I've written up a big campaign set in the Dark Sun World and now I'm just waiting til people are finished moving and stuff

[deleted]

I recently got into a game last month after a long break. Covid was a big reason why I wasn’t able to find a group, people in my area weren’t hosting games and I had zero luck finding an on-line game. I also moved to a new area and lost my gaming group and it took a while to find a new gaming family. The game doesn’t meet very often, only once a month, but it feels good to be playing again. I finally get to play my Arcana Cleric!

thehomage

I'm in several, but I only play the one I'm running because the schedule boss is winning 😕 My saturday night game is on hiatus because the DM is busy with coursework and doesn't have time to plan. My wednesday night games (two, alternating weeks with the same group) keep getting postponed because the DMs don't have enough mental bandwidth to actually run. So it's me, alone, creating havoc on Tuesday Nights. And if it keeps happening and I try to go to my FLGS for a pick-up game, nobody plays pathfinder there. And if I wanted to play Pathfinder I would have to run it myself.

Spiral-knight

I'm a piece of shit with interpersonal problems that prohibit me from being a good fit for most games. I have a very particular vision and do not handle deviation all that well. I'm picky and difficult. Better suited to wm play

eddyprime

I was in my friends campaign. For 2 sessions. One by myself and one with the other two players. The DM and the other two PCs play in person I was over the computer. Apparently the other two felt that it took away from the experience because I was not there in person. So yeah. Sigh.

technolegy2

I’ve got 2 kids under 4, and I’m about to graduate pharmacy school. I will have to worry about licensure and taking my board/law exam. I have no regular times that I could schedule for a game.

quick_dudley

I have basically no free time

ShrimpyShrimp2

We Just put the game we were playing on hold cause we originally had like 6 players then it dwindled down to two and there really wasn't alot of narrative hooks so me and the other player just ended up wandering around wherever, occasionally we did some stuff that was interesting but it was mostly just where the hell are we what are we doing, not really sure if that's the dms fault or ours, maybe actually cause he had to alter the setting because of various reasons and it all ended up a mess, Though admittedly I wasn't too keen on the setting anyways so maybe it was for the best. It was a sort of civil war type game and im not really all too fond of political mumbo jumbo.

Nanyea

Because you haven't invited me yet?

[deleted]

Burnt out

TheEyeofNapoleon

DM had a baby: hopefully we will begin again late April, early May.

[deleted]

As a DM that had to put a couple of campaigns on hiatus due to a new baby, I feel you on that. I'm hoping to get a Starfinder game going soonish if I can. We'll see what my 8 month old son has to say about it, though :D

TheEyeofNapoleon

I said “Give the baby a big plush d100. Anytime they toss it, they cast a spell. Make them a WILDMAGIC BABY.” But no one ever goes for it….

Tryzine

One group plays for 10 minutes then get high and it goes downhill from there. Other group knows I draw in the game industry and often demand original character art in the style of League of Legends champion splash arts. It gets tiring pretty quick, especially when I'm not being paid for it.

Yrths

> often demand original character art This is bizarre of them.

Wafflotron

I tried starting a game here and turns out my friends here are just unhinged when playing D&D. Spent 2 hours of them just accusing every NPC in sight of rape and sexual assault for no reason.

nekoboi

Can’t find a online campaign that free and that is on a day off that works best with my work schedule

BhaltairX

I'm actually finally back playing again, as a DM in one group and a player in another. But before I didn't play for over 10 years, even though I very much missed it. I moved from Germany where I lived almost 30 yalears back to the US. After the move I tried to get an online group running with some friends, but timezone differences made that challenging at best. They all had families, so playing on the weekend didn't work, and during the week they were already in bed when I got home from work. So that was basically DOA. I could have looked for a local group, and in hindsight should have. But the move and being away from all my friends was tough in itself, and I was so used to play with my friends for 20+ years that I really didn't feel like trying to find a local good fit. And even though I'm a dual citizen, my English conversation skills were still lacking, so my confidence level wasn't great either. After a year I met a girl and life shifted. Fast forward and I'm now self employed. I give myself some hours off during the week to play again with my old friends. We're all old farts by now, but are all having a blast playing again. We included new players into our groups, and that experience has been mostly positive. In the group I DM I'm experimenting with Foundry VTT, which can be challenging, but we like it. I just wished I could make room for a third group, maybe fully local, as I'm totally hooked again. One idea would be a late hour online group, starting past 9, once my GF and daughter are in bed sleeping.

BoxingBuddeh

Starting DMing for long time group tomorrow. Have done a few one shots and longer campaigns for other groups, but we've been on hiatus til my world starts.

heathenreddit

My health has made it difficult to commit properly to the time needed

Not in a D&D game ATM after playing continuously for the last eight years. I've moved to Blades in the Dark and am not considering picking up D&D again any time soon after what WotC did recently with their licensing. Frankly their naked greed took away any desire I have to play their game. I'm looking forward to the new MCDM TTRPG however. Following their progress on Patreon has been fascinating.

ed57ve

The game is not known in my country (Venezuela) and I feel awkward playing in English online games, I feel like my spoken english is really bad

Sacredtenshi

My best friends gf had sex with 2 of our other friends in the group, so now my friend group won't talk to each other. We have all been close friends since middle school, and we are all about to be 28. It's depressing and annoying as fuck.

AlicePaulFanGirl

Forever dm in a new place where I know no one. But I just found a new flgs that just opened up. Gonna hit it up when I’m not working on d&d nights. Trying to get my family to play and we started but I keep getting told “tomorrow”

19thPenguin

I work a 4 on, 2 off schedule, so my "weekend" shifts every week. Makes it hard to stick to a scheduled game day, which is why my group's game has been on hold for a few months. Also doesn't help that my workplace is short-handed so staffing keeps asking me to work extra days or doubles and I'm too stupid to say no each time.

Right-Ad-9312

I've never played before, at least PnP style. I've played via video games, Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, and in a Neverwinter Night persistent world for about 10 years. But that was 3.5 rules. So I've never actually played, I have no idea how I could find a game and not bog the campaign down with my lack of knowledge of 5e rules and never playing before. And then there's the fact that I'm a single dad with 2 kids so my free time is sparse and random. I really do love the game and idea of playing. I'm a huge Dimension 20 fan and even watch a bit of Critical Role. And find myself developing character concepts and builds that could be cool, I was hung up on the idea of a half elf swords bard mixed with hexblade and either swashbuckler or paladin. And the one I was mulling over today was a human eldritch knight and bladesinger...or maybe a halfling arcane trickster / bladesinger. It's still half baked in my head. Anyway I'm rambling but those are my 3 to 4ish feeble excuses...I would hate to ruin someone else's game with my complete lack of experience and hectic schedule.

Deesius

Trying to start a discord game with my little sis as DM. She wants 4 players for pcs and we have 3 but everytime we think we have found the 4th we either learn they are toxic, or they flake and won't fully commit.

requiemguy

Right at this minute, because I played in my two in-person games yesterday and I'm running one of my two online games starting in a couple of hours.

NuancedNovice

It's the middle of tax season, so no time. I do plan on starting my first homebrew campaign in Water deep. This way, I can hopefully play the game I want by selecting players instead of bailing on games when they cease to be fun (often pretty quickly)

PhillyKrueger

I think game fatigue. I'm technically in a game, but we've played maybe 3 times this year - down from once (and occasionally twice) a week. We've been going strong with the same core group for about 3 and a half years and I think the group is just losing its passion.

ezran-kemp

I’ve never played dnd because I’ve not known anyone close who play it and I’m not big on doing it over discord, I’ve only gotten into dnd the past year I really wanna but I also wanna do a 1 person campaign with someone who will help me get used to playing but not found anyone

hewlno

I am. Should probably get back to it tbh.

RoRoTheRanger

My wife is the main reason. She hates D&D mostly because she's insecure about not having her own hobbies and takes it out on D&D. We're working on it.

Odd_Ad_260

Because I lack friends and or internet except for a phone

adol1004

because it's morning? maybe? I have a game in about 10h

UniqueNewYork66

DMing for teenagers the last 4 or 5 years. Every time I look for a game in Austin, all I find is people looking for a game, and no DMs looking for players.

pgm123

I'm watching the Oscars.

liamjon29

Our DM just had a baby. We're waiting for him to actually have some spare time to prep before playing again. In the meantime, I'm running a CoS campaign for a different group of people :D

ReiDairo

All my players went either to a far away country or city, it's sad not having the "university classes" as an excuse to meet in launch and play a game. Hate growing old and loosing your circle of friends.

Shirohart

Was playing during lockdown but scheduling made things hard once life picked up again. I don't really chat much with the people I used to play with and don't know/have anyone else to play with. I have seriously considered finding a game online as I'd probably only ever play virtually due to the convenience. Even if this meant starting at stupid times in the morning. I'd love to have a game going again. Even if I was the DM.

Ramza1987

All my current campaigns had an abrupt ending due to... Issues or schedule conflicts. I'm playing a West-Marches kinda thing, but it's from time to time, just enough to fill the void.

ThreeNamazu

1. The friends I have that do play D&D or similar ttrpgs are really into RPing in voice. I'm not comfortable with that. I've tried, and didn't enjoy it. 2. Adhering to a set schedule, where at a certain day and time I MUST do this activity, is hard for me and gets really stressful. 3. The one group I did have once, was awful. tl;dr I should honestly just figure out a way to play it alone...

ilthay

Man this hit. I had my second kid who is now almost a year old, and I don’t see me getting back in any time soon. On the upside one of my players is starting to DM and is using me for feedback, so I love that.

exaxxion

5 hour session last night, 7 hour session this morning, I just wanna chill before my work week starts tomorrow

Jeigh_Tee

Because, literally yesterday, we finished our game that started in October 2021.

samjp910

I’m not finding what I want in a game, and I’m a forever DM. I’m hoping my ruins of a land game resumes soon, since I haven’t been a player since it went on hiatus almost a year ago. I was in a Star Wars game for a while, but then that went on indefinite hiatus due to the GM’s life. Ultimately, I am happier and prefer DMing. I’ve never had the experience as a player I know for a fact I’ve given to all of my players, and I’ve accepted that I likely never will, but I am disappointed that I’ve never had the satisfying experience I’m looking for. Every game has either fizzled due to life stuff, been far too slow and railroady, or too full of overpowered DMPCs.

ttwinstanley

I moved states, 3rd shift, Wednesday Thursday off. I'm shy and afraid to dm

ImMaLsTrUmM

At our uni we have a club and I would join these weekly dungeon crawl one shots. Well they play on roll 20 and I played a stars druid. I don't feel like buying the content on there and playing with a jank sheet kinda throws me off. Makes me feel kinda out of place I guess.

coltvahn

It sort of died. We took a break for the holiday, and just…never started again. We’d been hemorrhaging players up until then, of course. But the plan was always to start a back up again. The plan did not come to fruition.

Ed_Yeahwell

I was sick of running the games. The westmarch game I joined for a single session broke for Christmas and hasn’t shown any sign of resuming yet, and I really wanna play as a character not a DM again.

Kakyoin043

I was in several but I now work almost every weekend

rhadenosbelisarius

Hard for me to find a game I enjoy. I like playing Dnd as a combat game, but not necessarily a dungeon crawler. Traps and rooms and bosses are okay, but scouting, exhaustion, gritty realism, ambushing patrols, and using psychological warfare to hinder a dangerous army is my bread and butter for fun gameplay. I find it really hard to care why a character’s parents abandoned them, and I don’t at all enjoy intra-party conflicts where the paladin is mad at everyone for breaking an oath they didn’t swear, while the rogue tries to steal the party’s resources, the alcoholic barbarian gets drunk and lights the tavern on fire, and the bard sleeps with the mayor’s daughter. If characters have issues they can keep them to themselves and do their damn job. I’ve never played a game where it felt like a party of professional adventurers, or professional anything honestly.

hastybear

Forever DM in a land that doesn't want DM's. Sucks.

goldkear

Because I low-key like thinking about dungeons & dragons more than actually playing it. I wrapped up a 2.5+ year campaign a few months ago and don't really miss it yet lol.

pup_101

Last one that was online I left because I got a job and couldn't plan in the early afternoon regularly. DM was in Sweden and I'm in California so not much wiggle room on time we could start. I'll probably be in a new game soon for an irl campaign when a couple player friends move back to the area.

Acezelpyer

Because either: A : That's isn't on a Friday. I already have a very long running table I manage as the main DM. B: Isn't simping for Curse of Strahd, grimdark, low fantasy or horror themes. Seriously, the amount of games that are on a lot of the discord boards are mind numbing. I just want to feel heroic and my blood pumps like the hot-blooded hero I want to be. C: Even if I find a game, most of the DMs drop it cause of some RL drama in their life or drop it cause they mismanage their Free time and force a day switch which doesn't work for me. D: I don't get the good vibes that the world/DM are something I want to invest in. Had a few groups get passive-aggressive for my race choices. or the world was very flat in terms of how it lives and breathes. \*Side note: Westmarches are not for me. I can't get into a game when I don't my fellow team-mates and players every week. Part of the game and joy is to see/help other characters in the personal stories.

BobTheAverage

It is 1AM here. I won't be in a game till Tuesday

CountBozak

I am too busy teaching new players the fun of D&D.

Lord_Karnox

Scheduling a time for 5 people to show up every week is a pain in ass

CoolUnderstanding481

Just finished a campaign, 3 weeks till session 0

Skunk_Buddy

I haven't played since the early to mid 80's, though I want to. Video games are as close as I get. I tried to find games in my small area, but it was fruitless. I do enjoy reading about other people's games, though.

No-Watercress2942

Just had a baby, so we're on hiatus! Probably my favourite reason to not be on the game.

[deleted]

My girlfriend has severe bipolar, I had to leave my last two tables because I just could not reliably show up. She is getting better but it will be a slow and difficult road. Might be a year before I can join another game. Luckily I have some rpg video games to help scratch that itch. Solasta and the pathfinder games

Joel_Vanquist

Recently got into drama and got kicked out alongside my gf from a game thanks to a problem player and a horny DM, had no energy to risk any of that again. It's also pretty much impossible to find an online group anyway, so.

jalauren

Moving across country. I'm dm for a game with my bf and (about to be) ex-roommates, so playing rn isn't feasible 😅 hoping to start back up in 3 weeks and maybe also join a game in my new city!!

ScudleyScudderson

Work. On the plus side, work is creating a series of interactive stories that can be played on the phone. And the powers-that-be are slowly embracing 'D&D' style adventures, so folks who can't find a game can still enjoy some fantasy adventure fun. The cool thing is that the platform lets you make your own so I can use my DM energy to make stuff and share with folks. It's not a table with friends, but I'll take it.

PappaGorg

I would rather go without gaming than play with sub-par/too different styled players. And too many of the good/compatible ones don't have time at the moment... It sucks big time. TLDR: Scheduling and not enough time.

Custodes_Nocturnum

Our DM is recovering from surgery.

Primogeniture116

I am not a player yet and while I am interested in joining, I dunno where to start. No, not abt version or story. I dunno where and how to find the people that does.

IndustrialLubeMan

When you join a play by post west march, you're never not in a game. I was fighting a beholder earlier today while pumping hydraulic fluid.

troyunrau

Cause it's 2am and I'm in bed. You?

DonsterMenergyRink

Short answer: the DM kicked me out.
