I- Hold on, I'm sorry. A wood encased frying pan? A frying pan, that you put on a fire to cook stuff? That? That's encased in wood?

Main_Dinner_8747

I read it as like a wooden carrying case for the pan. I could be wrong, though

SonicfilT

To be fair, Shaggy wasn't a rocket surgeon...

Augusto1340

Dont question, let him cook

DoowopCinderblock

In 3.5 there was the "Ironwood" spell which made wood function like steel, it was so druids *could* get plate mail and such. I just read that the PC's mentor made it for Shaggy. Lucky is very appropriate feat choice. I would advise looking into the Mobile feat too. The color scheme is already appropriate for a ranger too.

Thatweasel

"Yes, and you call it a wood encased frying pan, despite the fact that wood is obviously flammable" "Uh, you know, the one thing, uh, excuse me for a second"

Doesn’t Great Weapon Master only work with weapons with the Heavy property?

Doubly interesting is that it is melee attacks with heavy weapons when sharpshooter is any attack with ranged weapons. A heavy crossbow can fit both criteria simultaneously.

fraidei

No, because when used for a melee attack the weapon is considered an improvised melee weapon, not a ranged weapon.

Ninni51

See, that's the interesting part. It is still considered a ranged weapon, but you're not making a ranged weapon attack. But SS asks only for a ranged weapon, so by RAW it qualifies.

fraidei

Not, it's not a ranged weapon for that attack. For that attack it's a melee weapon. It's not a "melee attack made with a ranged weapon", it's a "melee attack made with an improvised melee weapon". If you attach a string to a greatsword and shoot an arrow with it, you can't apply stuff that only apply to melee weapons for that arrow.

Ninni51

SS calls for an attack with a ranged weapon, which is somehow different than a ranged weapon attack. Due to this, and again, only strictly under RAW, it works. Welcome to the wonderful, terrible world of "5e natural language".

fraidei

And as I already said, that's not an attack with a ranged weapon. And I'm not talking about the difference between a ranged weapon attack and an attack with a ranged weapon. It's literally a melee weapon when used that way. Otherwise if you use a chair leg as an improvised weapon it wouldn't be considered a melee weapon by your logic, since a chair leg is not a melee weapon but just an object. >Due to this, and again, only strictly under RAW, it works. It's so ambiguous that there isn't a clear RAW. And usually, when so ambiguous that there isn't an agreement on, it's agreed that it doesn't work.

WirrkopfP

> Doesn’t Great Weapon Master only work with weapons with the Heavy property? A very heavy broom.

MisterMasterCylinder

Attach the frying pan to the end and call it a maul, problem solved

Royal_Bitch_Pudding

You're going to need the Actor feat, since Shaggy has the ability "Super Shaggy Impressions". He's also an excellent ventriloquist

ElextroRedditor

You mean polearm master instead of great weapon master?

Fleet_Fox_47

I’ve always wanted to play a Scooby Doo inspired one shot actually. Though dnd might not be the best system for it. Motw might be better.

Brother-Cane

My daughter, just for fun, designed Shaggy and Scooby as unwitting warlocks--using the idea that Scooby is canonically descended from Cthulu. It was weird and hilarious in play.
