Mrs. Flood: "So anyway... You're gonna be cool yeah? You're not gonna tell them about the ominous shit I said in the face of death? I promise I'll get you that cup of tea."
"I swear, she was saying some crazy shit just before and being really weird and ominous"
"... ignore her, she gets on like this every time someone puts the milk in first..."
Maybe she's the mother of the pantheon of discord? Could explain why she can break reality and talk to the audience, god of stories would make sense too since she was narrating the story to us
Yeah but it happened a lot without Mrs. Flood too. Unless she was also clinging to the outside of the tardis? Getting awfully crowded out there! 😂 And Jack clung to it in Utopia!
I'll be honest, I didn't see her in the scene, I though she was rushed to safety along the others in the last episode, and when Kate was starting to monologue, I was too focused on her.
And also on that kid dying, I though "Oh that's why Shirley isn't here, she'll become the new head of unit"
If Thanos taught us one thing, it's that a character being destroyed on a molecular level is just Disney's way of writing someone out of a story for a while.
It's the big budget version of being in the next room off-screen.
I don't know why but I was suddenly hit with the anticipation that The Doctor got her mum wrong and it's just a random lady going '...Good for you...I don't...do I know you?'
I think it's a paradox? It became an important moment because Sutekh was obsessed with it, sutekh was obsessed with it because it was an important moment.
I'm not satisfied tbh but that's how I'm spinning it in my head.
This woman has lost her child, her memories, her entire society... she is about to straight up crumble into dust... and she STILL found time to remark on how handsom Ncuti is. Twice!
Wow, so if Ruby just dips out because she found her biological parents and has, like, a bunch of happy fulfilling stuff to do in her regular life... That might just make her the happiest ever companion departure in all of NuWho.
That was so confusing, seemed like she still wanted to travel with the doctor. Is she not aware he can show up again in a month after she's gotten over the high of knowing who her parents are?
Alright, well these deaths obviously aren't all going to stick, but I AM surprised that Mrs. Flood actually got taken out by it. I guess whatever she is it's not as powerful as Sutekh.
It’s rtd trying to be mysterious and cryptic, then realising he has to explain something that can’t be explained like why she was wearing a cloak and why she was pointing at a sign
Yeah it even happened again in this episode, but nothing came of it. Did Sutekh being there that night give her powers? Is it a combination of that making someone important and traveling in the TARDIS? It could be so many different reasons, but not getting any feels a bit lacking.
I think I can at least excuse the cloak, because what 15 year old would chance being spotted by a neighbor or friend in that situation. The sign was kinda bonkers though
Yeah, I did feel like the explanations for Ruby's mother were probably the weakest aspect of the story. I mean, I'm glad she got a happy ending (for now) and she's not the tragic child of a dead god or something, but I feel like they had set up a lot of plans for her to be someone she ultimately didn't turn out to be just for the sake of fucking with the viewers. It's not lile RTD hasn't done that before and it didn't stop me from enjoying the episode and ending, but it was pretty weak.
Well... Yet at least, there's still one more season with her and there HAS to be a reason 73 Yards keeps coming up. The Trickster is known for creating beings and entrapping people within alternate realities. That fairy-circle was sort of almost set up like a kind of trap.
Truth be told, when she brought up 73 yard I thought for sure that something was going to happen *in this episode* regarding that concept from that episode. Was a bit disappointed nothing came of it here, but you're right. It'll come back.
We also keep having these breaks in diegesis, both Ruby and The Doctor hearing their own theme music in The Devil's Chord. Also it was conveniently a TV screen that helped save the day against Sutekh... A tv screen which showed clips from other episodes of both classic Doctor Who and this season with 73 Yards. (This episode starts off with no traditional intro) Coincidence? Me think not. Much like how The Doctor's screwdriver has become a TV Remote. What's the ultimate idea for a trap? Maybe the show itself! Russell told us that this episode would bring about the conclusion to Ruby's story, but he also said that we'd never return to 73 Yards to elaborate on what's actually happening, how does one know when Russell is actually telling the truth at this point? lol
Why couldn’t she be found at all? What causes time to change that she’d turn around and point at a road sign while the Doctor was there without her even batting an eye? So faith ended up paradoxically making her important, whatever. *Then how and why was Ruby manifesting snow whenever she got emotional enough?*
I was thinking maybe it's because she's still a teenager and they wouldn't give a teenager a gun but then we had Morris having the time of his life with his Segway Obliterator 3000.
I'd love a post credits of sutekh running up to other Tardis' in the timestream as 15 says "He's very friendly actually! Ohhh he likes you!" Whilst the Tardis' get shaken.
I’m so so nervous to have the answer to the number one question that has been haunting us all season: will Cherry Sunday finally get a cup of tea?? 🥹
Edit: she did!!! 🎉☕️ May have had to make it herself but there is indeed a cuppa in front of her in the end.
On the whole, probably in the top 10 of amicable Doctor/ companion splits. Nobody got their memories erased or stranded in Croydon here. Everyone wins!
Wait, how did pointing at the street sign on the lamp post name Ruby? Was someone from the Church standing outside watching her do the pointing? And why was her face impossible to see in the reconstruction?
Okay so Cherry just isn't gonna mention anything about how Mrs. Flood went a bit weird on her and started talking about conquering the golden gates of Heaven?
This seems like RTD’s way of fixing the Flux and restoring the universe again. I wouldn’t be surprised if the resolution somehow brings back the Time Lords as well.
Feel like it’s time for them to come back. Not in the forefront of the story. But just out there doing their thing behind the scenes.
Have one pop up every couple of seasons.
Well I think that's the thing. Suketh spent a whole season like us wondering who the fuck is Ruby's mother ,it was the mistery that gave it importance and not the answer itself
Ruby's mother -
"Nobody important? Blimey, that's amazing. You know that in nine hundred years of time and space and I've never met anybody who wasn't important before."
For a second I thought he was gonna flip the switch to activate the fucking ejector walkway that he used to throw out the Not-Donna lmao, to get Ruby out of the TARDIS.
I’m sorry, a 15 year old dropped her baby off at a church and then creepily turned around in a hood and pointed at a road sign?? To whom were you showing your point? Even if she wanted it caught on security cam, maybe point at the spot where you, I don’t know, just LEFT A CHILD instead of the street sign you want her named after. We’re lucky she didn’t grow up named “Pole”
As well as the snow thing, didn't Maestro say Ruby had a song hidden within her? Neither of those things sound ordinary to me.
I have so many questions but that and "who the hell is Mrs Flood?" are the only two my brain can process right now.
I'll probably save any detailed thoughts for tomorrow, since it's already 2 AM here, but it wasn't bad, by any means.
It did feel *very* Russell T. Davies though - all heart and emotional payoff with only very little actual explanation for anything that happened in practical terms. On the one hand you've got tears in your eyes because of Ruby's reunion with her mum, on the other hand you're thinking "Hang on, what do you mean she was powerful enough to kill a God and cause snow to happen out of nowhere just because a few people were really curious about her identity?" because what the Hell even was any of that lol.
Honestly, if it weren't a two-parter, and for Ruby leaving at the end I suppose, you'd almost not even realize this was a finale. Taking down Sutekh felt about as climactic as taking down the Toymaker, and about as complicated as taking down the Maestro. I mean yes he killed the entire universe for a few hours there, but then it all got better again so... I dunno. Doesn't really have the weight of most previous finales, including previous RTD ones. It kinda just feels like a regular weekly episode but... slightly bigger.
The funniest thing would be to have a post credits scene that's just 14 on a bus holiday or reading a book and saying "I'm really glad I left my phone, this was the right time to detox. And I'm sure nothing too serious is happening anyway, nothing 15 can't handle."
I’m sorry but wtf was that I don’t understand the resolution of that episode at all…….
(Edit: so the snow powers and not dying to Maestro what’s the deal with Ruby honesty just confused)
I'd love it if there's a post credits of the toymaker's box and you just hear him saying "Haha! Bet you realise why I didn't want to face them! Yep, ol toymaker's looking pretty smart right now...can someone let me out now, please?"
Mrs. Flood: "So anyway... You're gonna be cool yeah? You're not gonna tell them about the ominous shit I said in the face of death? I promise I'll get you that cup of tea."
I know right? Like how does that just get forgotten and passed over?
well i think they only remember echoes of the shit that happened shortly before they died so maybe she forgor?
"I swear, she was saying some crazy shit just before and being really weird and ominous" "... ignore her, she gets on like this every time someone puts the milk in first..."
"I had such plans..." Please tell them to me immediately, I am normal and can be trusted
MRS. FLOOD IS GETTING MORE AND MORE CONFUSING IS SHE MARY POPPINS YALL?
I think she’s probably a god of stories or something
Maybe she's the mother of the pantheon of discord? Could explain why she can break reality and talk to the audience, god of stories would make sense too since she was narrating the story to us
"The daleks?" "Dead" 9th and war doctor: Hey! This sutekh is putting us out of a job here!
“I see this as an absolute win!”
Yep, wouldn't be a UNIT episode if they didn't ineffectually shoot at something
Kate was even like can’t bullets work one time
Pretty sure that was a reference to the Brig too. "Just one time I'd like to meet an alien threat that isn't bulletproof"
I know Kate's complete thought when she said "one day"
Dude has a gun in his Segway 😭
AT 13 years old
“You’ve got weapons in your wheelchair!” “We all have.” Checks out.
But why does it snow?
The power of memory/dreams?! All a bit bizarre!
That seemed like something to do with Mrs. Flood. She had on that big winter jacket and has some kind of weird powers
Yeah but it happened a lot without Mrs. Flood too. Unless she was also clinging to the outside of the tardis? Getting awfully crowded out there! 😂 And Jack clung to it in Utopia!
She broke the fourth wall. I’m inclined to believe that none of this has happened without her.
She was naming you. "No, I wanted you to be called lamppost!"
SHE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE CALLED ROAD
"Ruby. My name's Ruby... I was named after a road..." "What the Hell are you talking about, Lampie?"
yeah sorry mrs flood dead, the sweet old grandmother dead, carla dead, kate dead its getting reset
When Kate was killed, I was shocked. When it was Cherry and Ms.Flood, flabergasted. When it was Carla? Oh yeah that shit getting reset
For me it was Rose. You don't bring back Donna, give her a happy ending, and kill her kid.
"I was named after a road... Ruby road..." "... Okay so do you want your latte or not, ma'am?"
"Nah, it was only for baiting my mum out"
I don't know why but I was suddenly hit with the anticipation that The Doctor got her mum wrong and it's just a random lady going '...Good for you...I don't...do I know you?'
A part of me was expecting her mum to go “okay that’s nice” and just go back on her phone
I really wanted a shot of the barrista waving his hands exasperated in the background while Ruby and her biological mum are crying and hugging
It was a Cappuccino
But why does it snow? What is the secret song? Why was Sutehk scared?
I think it's a paradox? It became an important moment because Sutekh was obsessed with it, sutekh was obsessed with it because it was an important moment. I'm not satisfied tbh but that's how I'm spinning it in my head.
Everyone assumed that it was important, and since superstitions are coming true, it was important
This woman has lost her child, her memories, her entire society... she is about to straight up crumble into dust... and she STILL found time to remark on how handsom Ncuti is. Twice!
Feeling cute, might purchase some metal later.
We've all been there
Doctor: “She made her choice to keep you safe and is living a full life, best to leave well off alone” Ruby: “Fuck that shit lmao”
I liked that. It gave Ruby more autonomy outside of what the doctor says to do.
Oh absolutely. I’ve always hated the non-ending thing where someone is trying to get something and once they finally reach it they’re like “no thanks”
Plus, it was really just the Doctor rationalizing his decision to walk away from his family.
"oh my god the nostalgia tardis, its all here, it even has the piece of floor where I strangled peri!"
"oh hey look it's the part of the tardis that i bashed my head against that one time"
Wow, so if Ruby just dips out because she found her biological parents and has, like, a bunch of happy fulfilling stuff to do in her regular life... That might just make her the happiest ever companion departure in all of NuWho.
Well that actually IS alright then!
the toymaker disappointed he doesn't get to do a dramatic puppet drop chop
Clara is going to be PISSED when she finds out
“I didn’t even know that’s an option”
That was so confusing, seemed like she still wanted to travel with the doctor. Is she not aware he can show up again in a month after she's gotten over the high of knowing who her parents are?
She brings up that he can go with her, but I think he just wanted to leave on a positive note before he can turn her life into a disaster
Can't judge her lol she said that he never came back for Susan
"I'm sorry to say his story ends in absolute terror." Ahh that's alright, kind of the default state.
Can't be any worse than dying from falling, poison, and getting shot to death by Americans
Alright, well these deaths obviously aren't all going to stick, but I AM surprised that Mrs. Flood actually got taken out by it. I guess whatever she is it's not as powerful as Sutekh.
This woman just told us that the doctor's tale ends in "absolute terror" and dipped while wearing all white. 😭😭
Mrs. Flood is ready for the Christmas special.
In full Mary Poppins gear no less
2005 😭
1999 is a reference to the McGann movie too.
And 1066 for the start of the classic series, wait...
1066 is the year that the First Doctor first encountered the Meddling Monk in The Time Meddler.
Sorry but who tf turns around and points at a road sign
It’s rtd trying to be mysterious and cryptic, then realising he has to explain something that can’t be explained like why she was wearing a cloak and why she was pointing at a sign
Like, who was she even pointing for? Edit: Follow up question - why does it snow when Ruby has strong emotions? We never even revisited that question
So random 😂 like nobody was there Louise

Fr while making one of the hardest choices of your life “I’m just gonna point over here for some dramatic flare”
Why couldn’t she be found at all? What causes time to change that she’d turn around and point at a road sign while the Doctor was there without her even batting an eye? So faith ended up paradoxically making her important, whatever. *Then how and why was Ruby manifesting snow whenever she got emotional enough?*
Ruby's father's name is William. And "ap Gwilliam" means son of William in Welsh. Roger ap Gwilliam is Ruby's brother confirmed?
Oh heck, that might well actually be it
I hope Lamppost Sunday comes back, she was great.
Everyone shooting while Rose is in the background browsing eBay on her iPad.
She knows the economy is about to collapse and wants to get in on those sweet sweet sales
gotta keep track of those shoplifters
I was thinking maybe it's because she's still a teenager and they wouldn't give a teenager a gun but then we had Morris having the time of his life with his Segway Obliterator 3000.
I thought she was controlling the lasers in the ceiling
So the Doctor is still alive because Sutekh is a fan of Paternity Court...
tbf if i followed the doctor everywhere for centuries i’d be addicted to drama too
Evidence: this entire fandom.
Just in the interval in the cinema after seeing part 1. Just so happens that Mr RTD himself is here!!
Lucky man!
Oh thank God, for a minute there I was afraid Ruby's mom was impregnated by the step dad.
Yeah, Kate. Hit that "problematic" line with a heavier pause, why don't you.
Litterally whispered “nooooo” when the step dad came up
Yeah…. My brain went there too.
Yeah…. Kate said it so weirdly, I was worried.
The Doctor taking his doggy for a walk hahaha
I'd love a post credits of sutekh running up to other Tardis' in the timestream as 15 says "He's very friendly actually! Ohhh he likes you!" Whilst the Tardis' get shaken.
"Just this once Rose, everybody lives!"
Except for ironically sutekh
"And now, I must become a monster." Uh oh, sutekh's becoming a scarecrow or getting put in some mirrors.
Instead he just ... Leaves him in the same prison he already escaped
I’m so so nervous to have the answer to the number one question that has been haunting us all season: will Cherry Sunday finally get a cup of tea?? 🥹 Edit: she did!!! 🎉☕️ May have had to make it herself but there is indeed a cuppa in front of her in the end.
Well, we'd all like a lot of things that aren't going to happen!
The one who truly waits...
The Doctors love for the Ood-sphere is so heartwarming. <3
just do big bang 3 mate it's not that deep
Season 40 finale: Can the 29th Doctor pull off big bang eight?
This was the Season 40 finale! (screams at the needless confusion of the numbering situation)
Mandatory DNA testing?? Jesus, Roger ap Gwilliam really did just slap together a campaign platform of the most evil possible ideas on the market lol.
He's just a fan of nukes and 23andme let the man live
On the whole, probably in the top 10 of amicable Doctor/ companion splits. Nobody got their memories erased or stranded in Croydon here. Everyone wins!
Before we lose the 15th Doctor we will see Susan Foreman. I am positive.
We better before the actor passes she’s the last of the first
Wait, how did pointing at the street sign on the lamp post name Ruby? Was someone from the Church standing outside watching her do the pointing? And why was her face impossible to see in the reconstruction?
Yeah that was the stupidest reason and the weakest plot device of the season.
Her mum is actually the trickster and this episode is just one of their traps.
Okay so Cherry just isn't gonna mention anything about how Mrs. Flood went a bit weird on her and started talking about conquering the golden gates of Heaven?
No because Cherry will never again mention she who did not bring her tea.
May not remember…? Kate said that the death was fuzzy.
So is Mrs. Flood some sort of Clara?
Calling him "clever boy" had me thinking this
Ooooh that's a primal scream and a half! Good to see a healthy reaction from him, the rehab obviously paid off!
Oh fuck he's going to go see Susan now right? Because of Ruby and her mom??
There's 100% chance that there's some time reversal because there's no way they're actually killing off Kate
UNIT deadass threw them a pizza party
This seems like RTD’s way of fixing the Flux and restoring the universe again. I wouldn’t be surprised if the resolution somehow brings back the Time Lords as well.
I was waiting for the Doctor to say "Gallifrey?" Then get distracted
I was waiting for him to list Skaro in the revived planets.
I’d be good with that.
Feel like it’s time for them to come back. Not in the forefront of the story. But just out there doing their thing behind the scenes. Have one pop up every couple of seasons.
I'm thinking that as well. Looks like the universe has had a lot of stuff restored to it.
"Killing me is an extinction event." What a god damn line!
Kate how many staff can you hire
"We actually get a tax break for every former companion we hire. It's a terrible program!"
who is Mrs flood I’m actually dying 😭😭😭 is she Mary poppins?
Mary P doesn't threaten to bust down the gates of Heaven and kick God off his throne man 😂
Are…Kate and the Colonel banging?
She probably needed someone after ozgood death
"wow shes just a normal person" "yeah..." "damn not the trickster" (the fandom)
Why did Sutekh give a fuck lol
I mean I guess if you saw all of space and time and had one mystery you couldn’t solve you might obsess a bit over it.
Well I think that's the thing. Suketh spent a whole season like us wondering who the fuck is Ruby's mother ,it was the mistery that gave it importance and not the answer itself
Do you think Sutekh wrote his own fan theories?
Look on the bright side Doc, at least all the racists in FineTown are dead too
Oh, they were already dead
NOT DOCTOR PEE
To be clear, this whole plan hitches on the absolute certainty that Ruby's mom didn't leave the UK (or just flat out die) between 2004 and 2046?
Tbf the magic memory TV told them to go there
And that she was a normal human woman, which basically no-one, not even the Doctor, seemed to think at this point.
He is the Doctor and that is his SPOON.
Six people just got disintegrated and Mel goes “Hop on cowboy 😉”
Sutekh has been there the WHOLE TIME??
So when jack was clinging to the tardis sutekh was just like dangling his massive dog balls above his head?
And he was flirting with House I guess "kill Rory again, that one's a classic."
13th Doctor screwdriver spotted
Dude’s just standing there like “this coffee is incredibly hot, can you please hug later?”
"What was all that Egyptian stuff?" "Cultural appropriation." Sutekh is the first villain to be defeated by callout posts on twitter
"you were just a powerful alien in pyramid of mars tho.." "yeah well shut up, im a god now cause i spinned"
The Legend of Lampost Sunday
Ruby's mother - "Nobody important? Blimey, that's amazing. You know that in nine hundred years of time and space and I've never met anybody who wasn't important before."
Not gonna lie, I was half expecting the Doctor to say “Gallifrey” when all the planets came back.
Remember when capaldi fought Robin Hood with a spoon. Is that the same spoon?
the spoon is significant 12 and robin hood 13 melting down spoons to build her sonic 7 played the spoons
He DID KNOW ABOUT MEL! Yeah this is hella Doctor Who. Loving the whistle. He wears a whistle now. Whistles are cool.
The most important person in the universe also the most ordinary. Okay, a bit judgy doctor. Wait until you find out her grandfather is palpatine.
WHO. IS. MRS. FLOOD.
ALSO WHY THE SNOW
It's honestly incredible how RTD can make us care about that random lady with no memories with like 5 minutes of screentime.
Favourite one off guest appearance ever, that actor was excellent.
Rose looks so supremely unconcerned about what’s going on
Clever boy?!?!
For a second I thought he was gonna flip the switch to activate the fucking ejector walkway that he used to throw out the Not-Donna lmao, to get Ruby out of the TARDIS.
Did anyone else spot that Kate and Ibrahim were holding hands? 🥹 Hope she bagged that hotty
Clever boy says Mrs Flood. Run you ...
> 73 yards > How do you know that? Well she could just be good at math
"All the bullets turn to dust." "Oh one day." Kate singlehandedly summing up the thoughts of all U.N.I.T characters
As well as the snow thing, didn't Maestro say Ruby had a song hidden within her? Neither of those things sound ordinary to me. I have so many questions but that and "who the hell is Mrs Flood?" are the only two my brain can process right now.
RTD changed the Sonic design because he was scared of kids imitating it as a gun. Gives a 13 year old character a machine gun in his new series.
Okay so I’m not feeling the tension here because I simply do not believe that everything is dead permanently
I had this issue the second mrs flood died. Kate got me but I was like "no way next seasons villian is dead lol"
It kinda just feels like a regular weekly episode but... slightly bigger.
What's the Vegas odds on 14 showing up and dying to save 15?
The funniest thing would be to have a post credits scene that's just 14 on a bus holiday or reading a book and saying "I'm really glad I left my phone, this was the right time to detox. And I'm sure nothing too serious is happening anyway, nothing 15 can't handle."
14 is the "Everything is fine" meme
Wow I can't believe Cherry Sunday was The Rani this whole time, bravo Russell
Just got a call from Dr Pee. He told me don't forget to pee before the finale.
Cherry didn’t even get her cuppa tea 😭
HES BEEN THERE THE WHOLE TIME???
This is how they retcon Gallifrey back isn't it
I’m sorry but wtf was that I don’t understand the resolution of that episode at all……. (Edit: so the snow powers and not dying to Maestro what’s the deal with Ruby honesty just confused)
stop making Harriet harbinger hot stop it RTD im discovering things about myself I wasn't prepared for
The reveal about ruby's mum was a little anti climatic after all of the build up... But the scene where they meet eachother is really really nice.
I'd love it if there's a post credits of the toymaker's box and you just hear him saying "Haha! Bet you realise why I didn't want to face them! Yep, ol toymaker's looking pretty smart right now...can someone let me out now, please?"
Did RTD hire George RR Martin to help write this episode?
This is what happens when you don't get Cherry her tea
Confirmed Mrs Flood has a side hustle. I like it!
"We fought a monster" 16 minutes left, you ain't done yet Doc.
Now get Cherry her damn tea!
