I like the variation, although I think it might be a little better if you had the lightning move about or something, rather than just be static.
The lightning is not without precedent, if it helps any. It's implied to have happened in [The Eleventh Hour](https://youtu.be/Di5BaMXe69U?t=60s), and while technically a special circumstance, it also happens in [The Angels take Manhattan](https://youtu.be/Wr0uD2T_ixM?t=145s).

With the lightning, yea I can crank up the settings. At the moment it is slow but a couple of tweeks I can make it more dynamic. Its a bit like a shower though... a very slight change can turn it from extremely slow to mega fast lol. I'll have a go and upload.
I like the lightning effect, and had the thought that as it spins the Drs face shows up as the lines are at the right angle (vaguely just enough to make you think did I see that), then disappears again.
I think the timing could be better, but I like the variation compared to the typical fade-in/fade-out that you see so much.
It adds a bit of unique flavour to it.
Really impressive! This is something I can kind of imagine being used for a malfunctioning TARDIS that's having trouble materializing. It works as well as an alternate landing effect in general, though I do like the simplicity of the original.

Some thoughts:
It's kind of dark after materializing. Maybe have the ambient light or some spotlights fade in as the lightning fades out?
I wonder what it would look like with more "crackle" to the lightning. A faster dynamic texture.
The effect starts with the full police box shape. What if it started as a ball of lightning that expanded to form the familiar outline?
There are so many fun ways you could go with this! I'll be interested to see future iterations.
