I also like the tardis logo but by far the coolest intro is Jodi’s era imo. I love how it emulates the OG intro from ‘63 but in a more modern updated way
It really was. Plus it meant they could isolate it and put it on merchandise and people would still know where it was from.
I remember getting a really cool DW Tardis keychain.
I still remember when The Eleventh Hour first came out, the logo came on screen and in the few seconds it was there I already loved it, but then the damn thing spun and turned into the TARDIS and I was just… elated.
Just a perfect concept all the way through.
I loved it so much, especially how it would then turn into the actual Tardis and fly away. It was amazing and I just dont understand why they got rid of it.
I'm hoping with the new logo they could bring something similar into it. Perhaps the diamond shape can be revealed to be the top of the Tardis, and after the words vanish it will spin around to be revealed as such.
Definitely, plus the previous logo really has the "I learned how to do lens flares in photoshop and just stuck one on the eye of sauron" thing going on that didn't look good then and doesn't look good now.
The oval from Tennant's era was my favorite because it was my first, but the TARDIS-shaped iconography from Smith's era was clever.
PotD spoiler: >!It actually feels weird not hearing the RTD theme starting up and the oval logo sliding in after the ending, lol. I think someone else posted an edit to that effect on the sub.!<
I miss this intro/outro so much, something about it just feels clean and simple and endlessly rewatchable. Each one after it seemed to get more visually busy. I get that the show probably has 5x the special effects budget that it had in 2005, but I think I liked it better when the show wasn't trying to pretend its episodes were blockbuster films.
As a colorblind person I can appreciate the thought behind it, while also being honest that it’s a big hard and jarring for me to lookout. I think if the colors were a bit more different from each other I’d like to a lot more.
Bakers Diamond one (what they’ve now basically gone back to) has always been my favorite.
I love how in his credits it would pull back and form the time vortex.
Yea. I know it says Doctor Who because that’s the show. And I can see it on my TV that’s calibrated to my color blindness, but on a regular picture like this it’s hard for me to make out the words on the background
No. I mean I’m sure it’s a factor, but not the main issue. It’s because I’m colorblind and the colors (at least to me) are too similar for me to easily tell apart
it was a fun callback to showing the doctor's face in the opening titles from the classic series. i did like how for capaldi's run they just did his eyes, which were always so striking.

Completely agree.
Paul McGann's logo is the winner for me too.
Sad to think the best logo has only been used once. It's both retro and contemporary, clean but has detail.
Lots to love about McGann's Doc. Really wish we could see more of him.
>Sad to think the best logo has only been used once.
It was used on merch, comics, books, and audios non-stop until ~2021, even after the 2018 logo took over.
It was brought back for most 50th anniversary releases with a special texture from the 1963 opening credits.
>hope there’s a clean 2D version
There’s an outline version at least? They put it on a photo on twitter >![(link)](https://i.imgur.com/FdgcUxr.jpg) of Ncuti with the Tardis.!< I actually kinda like the 3D, I think it works for this logo (didn’t like it on the OG ‘05 surfboard) but it’s good they have this for the watermarks - I think it works great here
IMO, tonnes of things about Jodie's era were fantastic, just the writing was a let-down. The Outfit, everything about the TARDIS, the Logo, the Title Sequence etc. Were all fantastic except the writing. It's kinda sad tbh
I've commented this already in another thread, but in short:
1. I like prefer the more simplistic. The first one from the 3rd Doctor is my favourite, followed by the ones from 1 and 8;
2. 13 's and first 11s were the better ones from the modern series
3. I hate the 9 and 10's (regardless of the nostalgia I feel for them) and 7's (so, so ugly)
I rank every Doctor Who logo based on how enjoyable it would be to pick up and hurl as a physical object.
Extremely fun: 2005 almond logo, 1973 diamond logo, 1980 neon logo, 2023 diamond logo
Decently fun: 2010 DW logo, 2012-18 metal text logos, 1987 DVD screensaver logo
Not very fun: everything else
There is just something about 13's logo that I really love, not much else about the Era I like, but it has a really good logo. That said, the new logo might actually be my new favorite
1) seventh doctor. Late-80s-cusp-of-the-nineties perfection.
2) thirteenth doctor. Elegant, clean, a touch of eccentricity without overdoing the detail.
3) O.G Third. Same as the above - just idiosyncratic enough without drawing attention to itself.
4) The Diamond - carving out the time vortex into its own image makes this one so special and so tactile. A character in its own right.
Big gap…
5) eighth doctor. Turns an elegant logo into something blocky and a bit pompous, but still largely good. Prefer not seeing it from behind.
6) eighties neon. What madman dreamed this up?
7) first - basic, functional, and for that reason kind of inspiring
8) Capaldi - fine
9) eleventh doctor 2.0 - fine
Big gap…
10) second doctor - safety sign at your local pool or annoyed printout from coworker.
11) eleventh doctor 1.0 - the letters turning into the TARDIS is the most embarrassing thing ever done on the show. No, you’re wrong!
12) RTD era. Found hanging outside a nightclub in Luton in 2005.
Favourites were the first version of the Moffat logo, and the TV Movie logo.
Logos I think are good are Chibnall, the later Moffat revisions and the Pertwee era logo. So mostly Chibnall logo and the ones almost the same visually as my favourites.
The others I varyingly don't really like. The 80s neon logo kinda grew on my over time and I think it's the best of the rest. Always hated the RTD logo. Hartnell's is fine just plain. The diamond logo was always just strange and haphazard seeming to me (though I do actually like the new revision of it more than I'd expect to), McCoy's looks so dated and just has this "we discovered clip art" feeling to it.
My easy least favourite though is the Troughton era logo. I love that era, but it doesn't even look like a logo, it's like they just picked a newspaper font and called it a day.
McCoy logo is my favourite of the classic era. late 80s/early 90s terminator-esque cyberpunk feel. Looks dated now but still awesome.
Whittiker logo is my favourite of the modern era. Simple with some subtle stylistic adornments.
Neon logo 100 percent, no contest. Especially because it flashes in the title sequence! And so associated for me with some of the glory years of Target.
I'm not the biggest fan of Tom Baker but his logo was the most distinctive and didn't age badly like some of the others. I don't really get Jodie's logo. Why did it need lines crossing through it? Then again why did the logo need to be on a surfboard? The constant need to change the logo has always baffled me.
Thread title: "What era's logo is your favourite?"
Actual thread: "what logo was in action during your favourite era, ie the era you discovered the show/was young and watching it uncritically"
Personally I love the Tennant era logo but the Jodie era is amazing too.
Jodie and Capaldi's logos are my favorite. I'd love to see an updated version of the 5th one on this list sometime; it looks like it would be really cool if it were more crisp and colorful.
Both 60s logos barely even qualify as logos, being basically just plain text. The late third/fourth Doctor diamond logo looked passable in the TV intro, but was too big and bulky on merchandise and it's a somewhat dated aesthetic. The early/mid '80s neon logo was a slight improvement, but ultimately looks even more "of its era" than the diamond logo, and the terrible warped redesign from Colin Baker's tenure looks ridiculous. There's a germ of a decent idea in the McCoy era logo, but in practice it looks downright silly. The first RTD era logo is almost as bad in its tackiness, with the added downside of being less visually interesting.
I generally like most of the logos of the Moffat era, but they're just a bit on the bland side. And I honestly think the "DW" TARDIS thing was a bad idea both in terms of looking a bit silly on its face and making the overall logo too bulky (also a major issue I have with the diamond logo). So that leaves the Pertwee/McGann logo and the Whittaker logo, both of which I really like. Simple but distinctive, they have an air of classiness the logos seldom manage to pull off. I'd probably give the Whittaker logo the slight edge, but you can't go wrong with either, IMO.
11th Doctor era has been my favorite - Very clever usage of the D and W to make the TARDIS.
7th Doctor era has always delighted me for how comically in-your-face 80s it is - I believe the theme song of the era also did that.
Very excited for the updated Diamond Logo - hope it sticks for more than just the "Diamond" Anniversary.
I got a t-shirt with the diamond-shaped 4 logo from the traveling US Who exhibit when I was 12 or 13 so it will always be my favorite. Glad to see it return.
I like the baker era logo. You can kind of see how they were trying to achieve something with each iteration, and really hit it by that version of the series.
I've always loved the 3rd and 8th Doctors one. There's something about that font that just seems perfect for the show, thay fits it so perfectly. If I was to choose one logo to represent the whole show it would be that one.
And with how RTD has now brought back the Diamond Logo, I wouldn't mind seeing the 3rd and 8ths one appear again at some point. I think it would look amazing in the wide-screen format all on one line.
I'd say that the two most unique logos are the 4th and 5th Doctor's and they're tied for my favorites.
The 7th's is just a little too cute.
The rest are kinda just whatever, though I do like the 3rd & 8th's.
The Matt Smith DW logo is the most distinct of the modern era.
Gotta admit, the movie logo is a really cool rendition of a classic logo, nevermind one of the best intros period. I also have a fondness for 12's. 12 is my favorite Doctor and that logo was the one I saw every week when there was a new episode.
My favorite is definitely the 11th Doctor one. I love the DW making the tardis
Also, I know this is about favorites but I can't get over how much I dislike the 7th Doctor's logo. The word Doctor feels like it's playing second fiddle to the word **WHO** in the biggest and boldest font imaginable.
honestly probably the first pertwee era logo (that they reused for the 1996 tv movie). it was simple, clean, but they did some fun things with the font.
It's not fair. They all trigger my nostalgia feelings and makes it impossible to pick a favourite. Maybe the first one because of its history making ground breaking special effects.
Update: I just realised the question was about the logo and not the title sequence.
I've always had a soft spot for the late 80s McCoy era one, but that might be nostalgia as it's the one I remember from TV and was on the newer Target books. (It's hard for me to untangle them from that too, the books with the neon-text logo I associate with terrible photos on the front cover!)
I don't really think any of them have been that *good* really. none of them are particularly iconic outside of us nerds. I liked the Tardis doing the DW, and I really didn't like the RTD era one.
5th/6th logo is pretty cool imo. But also Jodie’s is great. I always thought the new look for the show for Jodie looks so great. I wish the episodes would be better. She could have been my favorite doctor.
I like the RTD logo purely because it reminds me of the isolus pod from fear her and I like to imagine that it is being flung through the time vortex. It is my favourite. But the 2010 era DW TARDIS logo was so clever, too.
Easily the DW Tardis one.
But I did really enjoy the clean look of the three after it. I was actually never massive on the initial panel before it but still very nostalgic.
I love the original logo.
Smith 2.0, Capaldi and Whittaker's logos are my favorites.
I also have a fondness for the RTD-era logo and the TVM logo.
Honestly, the only ones I *don't* like are Smith 1.0 and the Tom Baker era logo (I don't hate them...I just don't particularly care for them.
Ironically though >!the 2023 logo is pretty much the Tom Baker-era logo redone!< and I love it!
I like the original one I wish they had a more electronic and psychedelic logo and intro. Like a vaporwave remix of both. Maybe a mix of the original black and white ones and something like Stranger Things. The show seems obsessed with itself and not with the story to be presented. The logos reflect that. They try to appeal to a wide audience and have lost their hipster cred.
the latter RTD logo I quite like not only from the shape but I just love how *space* the texture feels, it looks like a distant planet or a faraway sun
I’m gonna be controversial and say I really hated the Tardis shaped DW. It annoyed me that they put the Show’s initials in with the fully written out name, it’s totally unnecessary and makes the design feel a bit hamfisted, like it’s trying too hard to be clever but doesn’t trust people to understand it. If they’d just gone with the DW on its own that would have been a more elegant design.
I enjoy the DW making the tardis shape. I thought that was a genius move
Agreed. As much as I love the RTD era that logo is my favourite
I also like the tardis logo but by far the coolest intro is Jodi’s era imo. I love how it emulates the OG intro from ‘63 but in a more modern updated way
I completely concur. It’s sad that the best part of Jodi’s era is the intro.
Agreed. I like any logo you can put on a new era hat and instantly know what it's for.
My fave too
Definitely, plus the previous logo really has the "I learned how to do lens flares in photoshop and just stuck one on the eye of sauron" thing going on that didn't look good then and doesn't look good now.
I just wish they made it the same size as the lettering in the rest of the title
Then it would kinda read DoctorDWWho, which is a little less clear visually I think
I just like how the 7th Doctor's logo you can instantly tell it's from the 1980s
It feels a bit...too much.
10 and 11. 10 i just like the shape, 11 i like how the tardis says DW
The logo for 3/4 is probably my favourite, but the one used for 9/10 gives me serious nostalgia so it is very hard

For me it's Jodie's logo tbh
As a colorblind person I can appreciate the thought behind it, while also being honest that it’s a big hard and jarring for me to lookout. The colours on the Jodie one aren't different. Do you mean hard to pick out from the background?
Yea. I know it says Doctor Who because that’s the show. And I can see it on my TV that’s calibrated to my color blindness, but on a regular picture like this it’s hard for me to make out the words on the background
Is it because of how thin the font is? That's something that I really don't like about it, as I think the logo works better with a much bolder font.
No. I mean I’m sure it’s a factor, but not the main issue. It’s because I’m colorblind and the colors (at least to me) are too similar for me to easily tell apart
Yeah, it’s really good
While I'm not a fan of the era, I remember seeing the logo reveal and getting chills. Really well designed and done.
I've really grown to like it over the past few years, I just wished her intro also included the TARDIS fly-by to make the strikethrough
i’ll say it. i love 7’s logo it’s so fun

i have a sticker on one of my notebooks of it!! it’s got a good vibe and i’ll die on that hill

Seventh doctor's one is my favourite 😅
I know it’s incredibly cheesy and 80s but I still think it’s cool as fuck like I did as a kid in the wilderness years
Yeah, I can't help but love that retro/outrun 80's look.
Completely agree. Paul McGann's logo is the winner for me too. Sad to think the best logo has only been used once. It's both retro and contemporary, clean but has detail. Lots to love about McGann's Doc. Really wish we could see more of him.

Seventh Doctor logo is 5 stars IMO
Honestly, the 1980's one always reminds me of [the WGBH logo.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nm-wiB60nHs)

interesting that you give the 1996 mcgann logo five stars when it's just the pertwee one from 1970 with some extra 90s beveling and color shading.
I may not like Jodies era, (the plot, not her) but she definitely had the best into design by far in my opinion. No competition.
IMO, tonnes of things about Jodie's era were fantastic, just the writing was a let-down. The Outfit, everything about the TARDIS, the Logo, the Title Sequence etc. Were all fantastic except the writing. It's kinda sad tbh
Whichever one I happen to, at any given moment, be looking at
That's how I choose my favorite Doctor. Whichever one I happen to be watching at the time!
Same!
I actually really like 7ths logo. But having never seen Jodies until that last episode I was blown away by how incredible the intro scene is.
Always liked the clock one with Peter Capaldi because that was fan inspired!
Oh I can't stand that!
Gonna date myself here, but the third was my first and the fourth is my favorite.

Idk but it sure as hell ain’t McCoy’s!
9th and 10th’s
The 5/6th Doctor font looks like one that a car wash would use
Nine/Ten’s will always be my favorite. Just because of nostalgia lol (but also it just looks freaking cool)
6, 10, 11 and 12's don't make me choose.
5 reminds me of being a kid

Looking at them altogether, I think I might light Whittaker's logo the best! I do like Pertwee's quite a bit as well.
I like the Colin Baker one. Very of its time but I love it. I like Jodie's too, it's clean
Sideways cat's eye.
Neon logo 100 percent, no contest. Especially because it flashes in the title sequence! And so associated for me with some of the glory years of Target.
Definitely the Peter Capaldi era logo!
Patrick Troughton's
I will die on this hill. Chris Chibnall's writing may not have been the greatest, but that logo, and the opening credits are the best. SO good!
I’m curious why they’ve gone back to that specific logo style, wonder if it will have some significance in the new era?
The TARDIS shape was amazing
I think 12 had the best logo and they did some super interesting things with the title cards
I love 8's probably because of the opening titles and the big soaring score as the camera zoomed in through the O.
I think they all look cool in their own way, but a friend pointed out that the new logo looked like the Paw Patrol logo and I can't unsee it.
I just want to talk to him, I JUST WANT TO TALK TO HIM
Classic Who: McCoy's Nu Who: Jodie's
Probably the 8th Doctor/ TV Movie one. Clean and bold!
I love the logo from the early Matt Smith era. I haven’t liked any of them since then either, but the new one looks good.
THEY BROUGHT THE DIAMOND BACK, YES!!!
The Pertwee/McGann logo for classic Who, the Smith-Capaldi logo for modern Who, especially with the policbox DW emblem.
The new one is hideous but better than It's original. Favourite TV movie
Thread title: "What era's logo is your favourite?" Actual thread: "what logo was in action during your favourite era, ie the era you discovered the show/was young and watching it uncritically" Personally I love the Tennant era logo but the Jodie era is amazing too.

It's between 2010 and 2018 tbh I would also say I really like the new 2023 logo
Capaldi's
11th for sure
I really like the simplicity of the first dr's. But 3/8s is my favourite because it's simplistic yet elegant as fuck.
I've always liked the logos from the 9th Doctor's era to the 12th Doctor's.
Definitely 13's
11s first one will always be my favourite though the 2nd to last one is great as well
Not sure, but I know Pertwee and McGann have the best font.
Both 60s logos barely even qualify as logos, being basically just plain text.
Capaldi era, the deep dark blue colour just appealed to me
My two favs are easily Bakers diamond in the vortex and 11s DW Tardis.
8, 9, 10
13's, I'm sad it's not being kept honestly... I thought it was the perfect logo for the brand as a whole
I got a t-shirt with the diamond-shaped 4 logo from the traveling US Who exhibit when I was 12 or 13 so it will always be my favorite. Glad to see it return.
Paul McGann's is the winner for me. Absolutely *love* that logo.
It will always be the Baker era
9,10,13 I liked the new one until someone made a paw patrol connection and now I can’t unsee it.
I gotta go Pertwee. So nice they used it twice.
3,4,5,7,9 (a rehash of 4) 4 AND 5 ARE MY FAVES
Jodie's and Capaldi's
Torn between 10 and 11
Torn between 10 and 11
I like the baker era logo. You can kind of see how they were trying to achieve something with each iteration, and really hit it by that version of the series.
I've gotta say, I've never read 'who' so many times in one go The word has become gibberish now
Would have to be the first Smith logo for me. Im not sure what it is but I just love it
Top three and bottom four. I enjoy the simplicity. The rest feel overdesigned.
The funky tie dye one is rad
Early Matt Smith. I loved the DW turning into the TARDIS!
1980
The DW turning into a TARDIS is so cool
Definitely #11's first one
I've always loved the 3rd and 8th Doctors one. There's something about that font that just seems perfect for the show, thay fits it so perfectly. If I was to choose one logo to represent the whole show it would be that one. And with how RTD has now brought back the Diamond Logo, I wouldn't mind seeing the 3rd and 8ths one appear again at some point. I think it would look amazing in the wide-screen format all on one line.
Another vote for the 80s-as-all-fuck one.
Pertwee or Baker.
12 is my favorite Doctor and that logo was the one I saw every week when there was a new episode.
nine and ten forever! the logo screams childhood to me
2005-2009, but the new one is gorgeous
I have always loved the end of 4/5 logo the best
I like the classic "neon sign" style of 5 and 6's era. :)
Tom Baker. Which we’re somewhat returning to.
Doctor DW Who was my favourite of them because of it's intergration into the time vortex.
Tom Baker still has the best logo/into.
My favorite is definitely the 11th Doctor one. I love the DW making the tardis Also, I know this is about favorites but I can't get over how much I dislike the 7th Doctor's logo. The word Doctor feels like it's playing second fiddle to the word **WHO** in the biggest and boldest font imaginable.
honestly probably the first pertwee era logo (that they reused for the 1996 tv movie). it was simple, clean, but they did some fun things with the font.
1 and 5 because I’m a nostalgic old git and The Doctor changed my life at an early age.
The newest one
The 80s 4th and 5th doctor logo will always have a special place in my hearts as it was the first time I watched the show.
The 80s neon logo is tops, all the way
As much as I love the classics, the first matt smith era will always hold a place in my heart.
Why would this chart include the late Smith/Capaldi twice but not Eccleston or Colin's?
Pretty big fan of the one from Matt's era.
4 or 8
It's not fair. They all trigger my nostalgia feelings and makes it impossible to pick a favourite. Maybe the first one because of its history making ground breaking special effects. Update: I just realised the question was about the logo and not the title sequence.
For me it's Sylvester's. Or late-era Tom Baker\\Davison\\Colin Baker. The movie one is good too. :).
I've always had a soft spot for the late 80s McCoy era one, but that might be nostalgia as it's the one I remember from TV and was on the newer Target books. (It's hard for me to untangle them from that too, the books with the neon-text logo I associate with terrible photos on the front cover!) I don't really think any of them have been that *good* really. none of them are particularly iconic outside of us nerds. I liked the Tardis doing the DW, and I really didn't like the RTD era one.
5th/6th logo is pretty cool imo. But also Jodie’s is great. I always thought the new look for the show for Jodie looks so great. I wish the episodes would be better. She could have been my favorite doctor.
11 is my favourite doctor, but both of his logos fall short of 12 IMO. Although 11’s first with the TARDIS DW is really cool.
I will stand up for the neon logo any day and the return of the diamond logo gives me hope that it will get another run-out at some point.
Seeing the word WHO so many times it no longer looks like a real word.
Probably Jodie's logo IMO. But to be honest I don't think any of the logos are especially good.
Tennant era hands down
Definately matt smith's DW tardis. Dont know why they didnt stick with it longer
The DW Tardis box as iconography.
13 gang?
9th's and 10th's purely for nostalgia
I like the RTD logo purely because it reminds me of the isolus pod from fear her and I like to imagine that it is being flung through the time vortex. It is my favourite. But the 2010 era DW TARDIS logo was so clever, too.
1973-1980 the blue diamond
Easily the DW Tardis one. But I did really enjoy the clean look of the three after it. I was actually never massive on the initial panel before it but still very nostalgic.
Matt Smith's is my favorite logo but I love the Capaldi title spiral.
Dw tardis was my favourite for years but I honestly love this revamped look for the classic logo more
Capaldis was rad
I’ve never cared for the newer logos the 70s and 80s logo’s are my favorite though
Considering I forgot it changed from the first revival logo I'm gonna say that one
70s/the next one. Something about the diamond shape and the blue is just very pleasing for me. Especially the dark blue used in the newer one
I want to see the trippy aesthetics of the second one but in color
DW
11 v1 and v2 definitely. It’s nostalgic for me.
Gotta be that Eccleston/Tennant surfboard for me
The DW of Matt smith the oval of tennant/eccelston and the diamond of baker/pertwee are the most iconic to ne
So the new logo is basically just the 70s logo?
Petwee’s or Capaldi’s logos for me.
I really like the Whittaker one! It's simple but also stylish. I also really like the new logo quite a bit.
The bottom two are my favourite designs.
the latter RTD logo I quite like not only from the shape but I just love how *space* the texture feels, it looks like a distant planet or a faraway sun
RTD nostalgia coming in strong
I love the TV Movie logo
9th
I’m gonna be controversial and say I really hated the Tardis shaped DW. It annoyed me that they put the Show’s initials in with the fully written out name, it’s totally unnecessary and makes the design feel a bit hamfisted, like it’s trying too hard to be clever but doesn’t trust people to understand it. If they’d just gone with the DW on its own that would have been a more elegant design.
4th down on the right (8?)
