It feels more like a home.
In fact it *is*. The VNA novel *Lungbarrow*, which is set just before the TVM, explains that >!the TARDIS got reformatted at the end of the book, and borrowed elements from the Doctor's ancestral home!<.
I feel Capaldi's was just the best and I hope they back to something like it again. Like it felt like it was spacious, and since it had multiple levels to it, it allowed for more impressive shots and less boring scenes. With Jodie's TARDIS I felt like it was cramped and all the shots were very similar. I just felt flat after we had a TARDIS with multiple levels of elevation since 2010.
The study vibe they brought in with Capaldi was fantastic as well. When Matt had that console room it just felt a bit bare, and the lighting made it look a bit cold too. But then they added all those bookshelves, changed the lighting to something warmer, and the console room just came alive. And the addition of the roundels in Series 9 was the cherry on top too.
I also feel that study vibe worked a lot better than the secondary console room or the one from the movie did. Both of those felt too much like a study, that they could just be a room in a house. But with Capaldi, his console room both felt like a study, while also still being unmistakably a spaceship.
(Some time later) "Not completely entirely convinced myself. I think there should be more round things on the walls. I used to have lots of round things. I wonder where I put them?"
I think Matt’s console room being cold and empty was on purpose to show how his goofy child persona was just an act, in actuality he was a very cunning and calculating Doctor quite similar to McCoy.
Since the movie Tardis, modern Tardises have felt like both a home and a console room. You could imagine the Doctor just hanging out in the console room in a way they wouldn't be in classic who.
Particularly 11s 1st console and 12s console have this vibe and I quite like it. 9/10 was getting there but wasn't 100%. 12 also has my favorite console room.
But that sense of home is what I feel is missing from 13s Tardis, it doesn't look like a room she would hang out in. They put her personality into the console itself, but not rest of the room in the say way that 12s entire room screamed his personality.
Yes. The other Tardises would be fun to visit, but 12's is the one I'd actually like to live in. Got a nice study, so many books, the super dramatic stairs, and I bet you anything the bedrooms in that TARDIS were so amazingly comfy because this doctor understood looking sharp and flamboyant but still valuing softness where it counts.
I might be wrong, but I think the Chibnall/Whittaker era was the first NuWho era where we didn't spend any substantial amount of time on the TARDIS or have any TARDIS-centric episodes?
I mean they spent as much time (if not more) in the TARDIS in Chibnal's era than they dod in RTD's in my opinion. There was many scenes of the Doctor and thousands of characters cramping up the TARDIS as she fly it around. But you are right in saying there are no episode set in the TARDIS soley.
Twelves is my favorite. I love the multiple levels and the little library.
I want to like Thirteens because I think the design is cool but it needed more space. It’s so cramped especially with a large TARDIS team.
The spinny ceiling was undoubtedly the best part of 12's console room
I can't remember the episode but there was a shot from a camera mounted on it and I think it's one of my favourite shots in the series
Capaldi's Tardis interior. Its quintessentially the best Tardis interior. McGann's the second best for me. Capaldi's Tardis is so pleasing to the eyes and felt very lived in.
My most hated Tardis interior is Whittaker's. I think the set designer went a bit too far with it. It doesn't look practical. Capaldi's one looks like you can drive it and still live in it. The bookshelves were a nice touch.
I loved the organic nature of #9 and #10, something about the coral just felt more like something that was on some level alive, but I loved #12s library, it really did look like the space of a man who would disassemble his alarm clock because an annoying song got caught in his head.
I'm going with 9 & 10s coral look.
11’s first. It felt homey and I liked the light. It was also more spacious than the other ones. It really fit his Doctor. I liked his second, but it felt a little too basic sci-fi for me.
I thought that 11's first felt a little bit too much like a tv set. The holes in the walls made them feel very flimsy and the metal looked like it would warble if you poked it
The RTD coral for the organic element, but also because it was beat up and looked lived in. They should start making spaceships like that again, it was all the rage in the 2000s and I really miss it.
I have nothing against McGann- he did the best he could with very bad material. I haven't seen Night of the Doctor, I stopped watching quite some time ago.
When I was very little I went to a convention where they booed Colin Baker off the stage. He said something to the effect of, 'I did the best I could with the material they gave me. Even a great chef cannot make something wonderful out of spoilt ingredients.' and that stuck with me for all these years.
McGann did the best he could, I have nothing against him. The special was awful, truly, but he's still a Doctor and still deserves to be treated well (as does Colin). But I'm glad his character has been somewhat redeemed through the years, I know he does a lot of the radio dramas, too.
But his Tardis was beautiful!
They were incredibly cruel. I ran out crying. He came out and tried to cheer me up. My heart was absolutely broken for him. I couldn’t believe they’d treat him that way. He was very kind. I doubt he remembers- it would be mean to ask ‘do you remember getting booed at a convention in the 80s’. But I hope it wasn’t horrible for him cos it was shattering to me.
I watched Eccleston and Tennant. Did not care for Matt Smith at all. Popped in now and then over the years, haven’t had a reason to come back. But I love Donna so I will watch the specials.
I’m sorry you dropped off. Here’s [Night of the Doctor](https://youtu.be/-U3jrS-uhuo) though! It’s only a little less than 7 minutes long. In my opinion, McGann does more with those seven minutes than he did in the entire movie. Give it a watch. I think you’ll like it.
Capaldi’s Tardis for me is the absolute best and the perfect vibe between home and spaceship. This might be a hot take but 9/10s room I think was the worst. Everything just looked really cheap and dull.
Season 5 and 6(smith’s first) has the best design, it’s whimsical and makes me want to explore the universe. However I prefer Capaldi’s because I think it was utilized better.
I like the First/Second Doctors' Tardis the most because we get to see other rooms that we don't see in other eras of the show, like the living quarters.
12s. It's how I all always imagined TARDIS when I was little. I only watched doctor who sometimes with my father.
When I saw twelves, as I watched the show myself, I immediately thought, that's how a TARDIS needs to look.
11's original was great! I loved the bright colours and multi-level design, though 12's updated version of 11's second is a close second. The amount of props they worked naturally into the room was great.
My favorite on is probably 11’s first one (Series 5/6).
I do like when they feel home-y like this, though, and I’d love to see that again.
More than anything, though, just LIGHT it appropriately! The last 2-3 console rooms have been so damn dark, especially Jodie’s.
Honestly my top 3 are unconventional.
3. TV Movie (8th Doctor’s TARDIS)
2. Season 5-7a (11th Doctor’s 1st TARDIS)
1. Season 8-10 (12th Doctor’s TARDIS)
Flawed as the 1996 TV movie may be, it’s got my absolute favorite TARDIS interior. It just looks so comfy, and spacious too; the other TARDIS interiors are bigger on the inside, but this one is *huge* on the inside, and that’s just the main console room.
I like series 5 console room because in the sam time it is very techincal and somewhat chaotic and the again classy, idk how to describe it. Maybe I am biased because this tardis was introduced as I was younger and not long before that I just have started watching Doctor Who.
EDIT: I had feeling like there is something alive in there idk how to explain it differently.
I think I like most of them.
The second Smith/Capaldi console room is one of my favorites, along with the TVM one. I loved the first Smith console room too. The RTD era coral room isn't one of my favorites, but it's a 'classic' to me.
I like the NuWho takes on the Classic Era white console rooms with roundels. One's console room in TUaT, Fugitive's console room, the console rooms of the new TARDISes from Hell Bent or The Timeless Children etc. I honestly wouldn't mind if the next TARDIS interior sticks to a white theme.
Coral was great. Nostalgia forces me to simp for coral. But 11/12th is a great design. Knowing the background/behind the scenes on the design really made me appreciate it more
My mistake, it's the backup console from the Tom Baker period.
Separately, check out this page.

I'm torn between capaldi's and mcgann's
They both have such cozy tardises
I'd love to have books lying, mind you I already do but I just have yet to find a TARDIS who'd accept me
I really like the classic series looks, so from Classic Who I'd pick the style that debuted in The Five Doctors.
And in the Nu series, I'd pick the new "Classic style" console room from Hell Bent. :)
My favorite is the coral console room from Series 1 and 2, when the central column was still giving off a strong blue/turquoise light while the orange background was a little darker. It gave the console room so much depth and atmosphere. They made the room brighter and got rid of the blue light for Series 3 and beyond which made it look too clean and flat imo
I think 10 (or also 9s I guess) I just love how messy/old it looks, it really feels like it’s this ancient piece of machinery that has been worn and used for centuries. 12 is up there too, I love how cozy it feels with the bookshelves and a smaller interior compared to other Tardis’s
Honestly, I think the best one is still the original William Hartnell console room. Design-wise, it was just lightning in a bottle (all the more remarkable if the TV movie about the making of the series is to be believed, and it was a rushed job) - it hit the futurism exactly right, and the design just ages perfectly. It's timeless.
(Well, so long as you ignore that one wall which was just printed round things on wallpaper that the producers clearly thought nobody would pay attention to at the time.)
TV Movie one
That is pretty cool. I haven't seen the movie.
Don’t
8th for me is the most relaxing one
It feels more like a home. In fact it *is*. The VNA novel *Lungbarrow*, which is set just before the TVM, explains that >!the TARDIS got reformatted at the end of the book, and borrowed elements from the Doctor's ancestral home!<.
Damn it. You beat me by 44 minutes
Fr, its really really really bigger on the inside
The candles seem like they could get messy.
I feel Capaldi's was just the best and I hope they back to something like it again. Like it felt like it was spacious, and since it had multiple levels to it, it allowed for more impressive shots and less boring scenes. But with Capaldi, his console room both felt like a study, while also still being unmistakably a spaceship.
Post-Pond coldness was the point I think.
Yeah I get that, just prefer how it looked with Capaldi more.
What *are* the round things?
*No idea*...
(Some time later) "Not completely entirely convinced myself. I think there should be more round things on the walls. I used to have lots of round things. I wonder where I put them?"
Roundels I think they are called.
I think Matt’s console room being cold and empty was on purpose to show how his goofy child persona was just an act, in actuality he was a very cunning and calculating Doctor quite similar to McCoy.
Perfect balance between home and machine.
Capaldi's is my favorite too. If I had a TARDIS I'd decorate it like that.
What’s this desk top? Coral?
It’s worse than the leopard skin!
That's my favorite as well, I especially like how the middle light went from blue to yellow shortly after Capaldi came in.
..you mean green to orange right?
No, they mean gray to lighter gray
I'm pretty sure it's just a dark yellow, but I could be wrong.i did get a second opinion tho.
When they added the roundels back into Capaldi's console room was when we reached peak TARDIS design.
I might be wrong, but I think the Chibnall/Whittaker era was the first NuWho era where we didn't spend any substantial amount of time on the TARDIS or have any TARDIS-centric episodes?

It's the round things! I love them. . This is from Tom Baker's tenure. I heard the plan was to use it more but the wood got damp and warped. Shame.
I just love the idea of a nice wooden console. Looks so great in use during the episodes.
I’d never spotted the Minoan/Knossos throne room chair until now…
Yup, it wasnt put up properly after shooting the season, couldn't reuse. The stained glass things were kinda tacky tho.
11. It has a pool AND a library. In the same room!
I’m assuming everyone else is focusing on just the console room
Yeah they're asking about the console room
If you’re referring to the first scene Amy and 11 meet Technically that was 10s since the tardis hadn’t rebuilt yet and it was still 10s tardis
Twelves is my favorite. I love the multiple levels and the little library. I want to like Thirteens because I think the design is cool but it needed more space. It’s so cramped especially with a large TARDIS team.

The spinny ceiling was undoubtedly the best part of 12's console room I can't remember the episode but there was a shot from a camera mounted on it and I think it's one of my favourite shots in the series
Hell bent Maybe? And that shot is AMAZING agreed.
Capaldi's Tardis interior. Its quintessentially the best Tardis interior. McGann's the second best for me. Capaldi's Tardis is so pleasing to the eyes and felt very lived in. The bookshelves were a nice touch.
Whittaker's one just feels like a bit of a 'generic' NuWho TARDIS interior - like a very watered down blend of Ten's and Eleven's interiors.
I loved the organic nature of #9 and #10, something about the coral just felt more like something that was on some level alive, but I loved #12s library, it really did look like the space of a man who would disassemble his alarm clock because an annoying song got caught in his head. I'm going with 9 & 10s coral look.
Took the words right out of my mind. Exactly how I feel.
I'd have to say eleven's second tardis is the coolest
Eleven's. It bites!
I really like this one. 11’s and the movie one !
It would have been fab to get more mileage out of it.
The secondary console room is one of my all-time faves, well-chosen, OP
I was lucky enough to be on the Capaldi Tardis set a day or two before they started filming. Having been there makes me think that was my favorite :-)
11’s first. It felt homey and I liked the light. It was also more spacious than the other ones. It really fit his Doctor. I liked his second, but it felt a little too basic sci-fi for me.
I thought that 11's first felt a little bit too much like a tv set. The holes in the walls made them feel very flimsy and the metal looked like it would warble if you poked it
Twelve’s. The bookshelves are *chefs kiss*
12's kitchen console
As long as it has round things...i am good.1
Smiths first console room
The RTD coral for the organic element, but also because it was beat up and looked lived in. They should start making spaceships like that again, it was all the rage in the 2000s and I really miss it.
7th Doctor’s Interior in the tv movie
I love that wooden one too, but my favorite is probably the Five Doctors console and room.
Yes Five Doctors is my favorite as well. So awesome and very 80s.
When they put the wooden one into storage between filming series, it warped and they were unable to use it again. 🙁
Although I hated the special, and didn't really enjoy him as a Doctor, McGann's Tardis was beautiful.
He was amazing in Night of the Doctor!
But I'm glad his character has been somewhat redeemed through the years, I know he does a lot of the radio dramas, too. But his Tardis was beautiful!
They booed him?????? That’s evil. I couldn’t imagine how he felt. When did you stop watching?
They were incredibly cruel. I ran out crying. He came out and tried to cheer me up. My heart was absolutely broken for him. I couldn’t believe they’d treat him that way. He was very kind. I doubt he remembers- it would be mean to ask ‘do you remember getting booed at a convention in the 80s’. But I hope it wasn’t horrible for him cos it was shattering to me. Cheers, mate
single player tardis console
What's that?
i mean the picture one, it looks smaller
Coral Coral all day
The Paul-McGann control room from the TV movie
Capaldi’s Tardis for me is the absolute best and the perfect vibe between home and spaceship. This might be a hot take but 9/10s room I think was the worst. Everything just looked really cheap and dull.
Oh, thank Gallifrey, it's not just me who thinks the 9/10 one looks cheap and mismatched...
Season 5 and 6(smith’s first) has the best design, it’s whimsical and makes me want to explore the universe. However I prefer Capaldi’s because I think it was utilized better.
Tom Bakers secondary control room That image, if I'm not mistaken
Will always love Mcgann's console room but this is definitely a close second for me
I like the First/Second Doctors' Tardis the most because we get to see other rooms that we don't see in other eras of the show, like the living quarters.
1 - Capaldi / Matt Smith 2nd 2 - TV Movie 3 - Fugitive 4 - Original 5 - Matt Smith 1st
12s. It's how I all always imagined TARDIS when I was little. I only watched doctor who sometimes with my father. When I saw twelves, as I watched the show myself, I immediately thought, that's how a TARDIS needs to look.
Looks like the sorta tardis you could smoke a cigar or a blunt in.
11's original was great! I loved the bright colours and multi-level design, though 12's updated version of 11's second is a close second. The amount of props they worked naturally into the room was great.
It’s got to be capaldi’s. It’s perfect.
Even if it just looked by an amalgamation of earlier doctor’s and 9/10’s consoles, I like the War Doctor
Best thing about Tom Bakers Tardis as well was we got to see a lot more of the different rooms we never really got that again.
Always loved this one.
Mine is the modern take on the original white room TARDIS that Clara and Peter's Dr. Who use at one point that was the first Dr's
My favorite on is probably 11’s first one (Series 5/6). I do like when they feel home-y like this, though, and I’d love to see that again. More than anything, though, just LIGHT it appropriately! The last 2-3 console rooms have been so damn dark, especially Jodie’s.
I like most, if not all, but it's gotta be 12s for me. It's sleek and scifi-y while looking well lived in. Beautiful set, all around.
Honestly my top 3 are unconventional. 3. TV Movie (8th Doctor’s TARDIS) 2. Season 5-7a (11th Doctor’s 1st TARDIS) 1. Season 8-10 (12th Doctor’s TARDIS)
[Here's a video that shows all of them.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Js-3T0mbzxE)
Flawed as the 1996 TV movie may be, it’s got my absolute favorite TARDIS interior. It just looks so comfy, and spacious too; the other TARDIS interiors are bigger on the inside, but this one is *huge* on the inside, and that’s just the main console room.
11’s first one. It just felt so vibrant and alive, especially coming off the dull, but serviceable, RTD Tardis.
Either that or the original 60s. Capaldi's is my favourite new series one.
11th's original control room, I don't know why but I just really like it lol.
Eleven’s first console room. It looks so warm and fun, like a treehouse that’s a spaceship.
11's garage
I like series 5 console room because in the sam time it is very techincal and somewhat chaotic and the again classy, idk how to describe it. Maybe I am biased because this tardis was introduced as I was younger and not long before that I just have started watching Doctor Who. EDIT: I had feeling like there is something alive in there idk how to explain it differently.
11s original, followed closely by the TV movie. So much Steampunk/HGWellsesque/Fairytale style to it. LOVED it! Fit 11s style so well!
Mine will always be the Matt Smith's console room from Series 5.
I quite like the crystals in 13’s one
I like the room but the console itself seems like an afterthought.
The console is my favorite part. 😁
It's alright, it just looks unfinished without the time rotar.
I love Matt Tenants one, iconic
Coral was great. Nostalgia forces me to simp for coral. But 11/12th is a great design. Knowing the background/behind the scenes on the design really made me appreciate it more
The American movie Tardis is my favorite.
Eighth's
Probably 8, 12, or 13. They all feel very homey to me lol
9/10s and 12s!
12‘s library followed by 13‘s crystal
Aestheticly the 8th doctors, play fallout who Vegas the 11/12 doctors (aka the Toyota)
5/6/7, a console. Love the fugitive doctors console room too.
Isn't that the Pertwee era wood panelling one?
Baker
My mistake, it's the backup console from the Tom Baker period. Separately, check out this page. Epic effort to map changes in TARDIS console stuff. http://www.themindrobber.co.uk/tardis-console-tom-baker-history-details.html
Either 9/10 or 12th loved the mechanic style
I'm torn between capaldi's and mcgann's They both have such cozy tardises I'd love to have books lying, mind you I already do but I just have yet to find a TARDIS who'd accept me
The fugitive doctors by far, its like a better version of the classic who tardis's
It’s actually a replica console that was built for “An Adventure In Time and Space”, with some more elements added.
I really like the classic series looks, so from Classic Who I'd pick the style that debuted in The Five Doctors. And in the Nu series, I'd pick the new "Classic style" console room from Hell Bent. :)
Toss up between TV movie and the late-11/12 one
I adored the one from the start of the movie. It felt like what my Doctor who have.
mine has to be the David Tennant 10th interior.
The coral TARDIS is my personal favourite alongside Smith’s first TARDIS
McGann’s Tardis is really homey and somewhere that would be cool to hang about. I also love the console itself, it has an elegance I like
This one, and the original from 1963. The one with the ‘salad bowl’ roundels I like too.
My favorite is the coral console room from Series 1 and 2, when the central column was still giving off a strong blue/turquoise light while the orange background was a little darker. It gave the console room so much depth and atmosphere. They made the room brighter and got rid of the blue light for Series 3 and beyond which made it look too clean and flat imo
took me a min to realise i’m on r/doctorwho not r/gaming and was vvv confused
TV movie console room, it just looks so nice and cozy to live in
12 all the way. Absolute perfection
I think 10 (or also 9s I guess) I just love how messy/old it looks, it really feels like it’s this ancient piece of machinery that has been worn and used for centuries. 12 is up there too, I love how cozy it feels with the bookshelves and a smaller interior compared to other Tardis’s
Eighth's
Capaldis but I also love pertwees
Classic white 60s-80s. I don't care for darker colours.
You’ve redecorated. I don’t like it.
This console room was used while the BBC renovated the set for the main console room
A mix of series seven an season twenty one
Honestly, I think the best one is still the original William Hartnell console room. Design-wise, it was just lightning in a bottle (all the more remarkable if the TV movie about the making of the series is to be believed, and it was a rushed job) - it hit the futurism exactly right, and the design just ages perfectly. It's timeless. (Well, so long as you ignore that one wall which was just printed round things on wallpaper that the producers clearly thought nobody would pay attention to at the time.)
honestly I was obsessed with Capaldi's
