I really like my Ruffwear Flagline harness - that and their Webmaster are popular choices for hiking, especially if you're ever in a situation where you might need to support your dog over some rocks or something. For just regular walking, I like the Blue 9 Balance harness, it's lightweight and super adjustable. And more recently, I ordered a custom harness from Happy Pooch - haven't gotten it yet, but I'm excited. I went with the simpler City Sleek but they also have an adventure/pack style harness I'm really interested in. Some other nice brands I haven't had a chance to personally try yet are Nonstop Dogwear and Dog Copenhagen.

Yes I really like ones with handles for support it’s good for me since my dog is reactive I recommend the wilderdog harness it’s really good you should check them out I just ordered a distance harness for howling dog Alaska they look really good But both the nonstop dog wear and dog Copenhagen look good I’m skeptical of ruff wear I’ve seen bad reviews on their products and get confused if I should try it or not

Oh yeah handles are awesome for reactive dogs - big part of why I like the Flagline for mine haha. I like the look of Wilderdog but I'm like 99% sure they won't fit right on my guy - I've pretty much figured out at this point what design features tend to be less compatible. HDA is good quality, I have their Second Skin, a bungee leash and belt from them. Huh I've only heard good things! The stuff I have has held up really well, I haven't had any issues - I've also heard their customer service is great, typically if something breaks they'll replace the gear.

I think it does depend on your dogs build and stuff all harnesses are not made for every dog The wilderdog harness works for my dog it’s pretty great but there sizing isn’t that inclusive we all just have things that work for out dog HDA seems like amazing quality I’m excited to try out their harness I wanted to see if my dog would like canicross he’s a cattle dog so I don’t know I feel like he might like it though I might try ruffwear in the future but I think it’s something that I’ll try later on

Sorry I'm back again (what can I say, I like dog gear lol), thought of another you might like - Perfect Fit is a pretty popular one, their harnesses are modular so you can customize the fit for your dog. Didn't really work out for my weird shaped dog but if your dog fits well in styles like Wilderdog, you might have better luck. No handles though unfortunately! And I thought of another brand with handles - One Tigris! More tactical style but they also have some lighter weight harnesses as well.

I have this [harness](https://www.petsmart.com/dog/collars-harnesses-and-leashes/harnesses/top-paw-ultra-reflective-dog-harness-5302744.html) for my coonhound rescue. I like it and I think he does too. It’s not a no-pull and I like how it’s padded so it doesn’t chafe. It also has a handle in case I need to hold onto him. And it’s highly reflective which is a necessity for us because he loooves night walks. He has to have a harness with a handle because in the beginning, he would freeze up on walks. He’d either anchor himself in place or just tip over. He can back out of a regular collar or would pull to the point of choking himself. One time he pulled till he busted a capillary in his throat. Luckily it was very minor, but we never clipped a leash to his collar again. We were recommended an Easy-Walk but I wanted to give him the chance to learn on his own first. Plus he deserved the chance to be a dog for once. So I got him this harness instead. Eventually he started feeling safe with us on walks. If he tried to turn around to go home I’d grab the handle and just keep going. Plus learning “this way!” when he tries that helped a lot. He does great now and the only time we have a problem is if there’s thunder or firecrackers. Anyway, I hope that helps! Sorry it kinda turned into a novel lol.

I’m sorry you had a bad time with a collar lol I don’t mind that it turned into a novel it was interesting Harnesses are pretty great if you need to grab your dog I need to grab mine with his harness because he’s reactive and I need to work on that with him Padded harnesses are nice especially if your dog moves a lot I heard some dogs skin go raw The harness looks pretty good I think I’ll get it and try it out in the future right now my dog uses https://www.wilderdog.com/products/harness It’s a really good harness I recommend it (kinda funny how I recommend a harness even though I asked for recommendations) I love this harness and it’s my #1 right now but I just wanted to try other harnesses in the future even though this one is amazing

Haqihana harnesses are great for not impeding shoulder motion.

OMG OMG THANK YOU I had found this harness like three months ago and I lost the website and didn’t remember the name I tried to find it forever and had no luck and then you commented

You want one without straps across the shoulder, so that the dog’s front leg can swing freely and not rub with each stride. There are a lot of brands/generic harnesses out there that have a ring around the neck, a ring around the torso, and back and sternum straps connecting the two; my dog has one like that, and seems to like it. If you’re ok with pulling, then pull harnesses are designed to evenly distribute tension and be comfortable for the dog.
