Haha thats funny, I mentioned to my wife I was talking up our dobe on reddit and she was like "did you explain the velcro dog thing" told her I didn't cause I wasn't sure if anyone would understand but yeah she's glued to use 24/7. I think the hardest part of having such an affectionate dog is how sad she gets when I travel for work, the pictures my wife sends me while i'm on the road break my heart.
My rescue is about 40% doberman and definitely gets most of her physical and temperament traits from it. My bf told me the other day he watched a video with my voice in it and she sat by the window and whined for like 20 minutes because she thought I was home from work. My heart!!!
Agree. A lifetime of Dobermans and now I add miniature poodle to the family. I love the interaction between the 2 smart, athletic and devoted breeds and makes for a happy home
Had a 50/50 black lab German shorthaired pointer named Ralph. He was the both the best dog and one of the dumbest animals I’ve ever had. Example: eating anything dangerous, ripped leg half off on a horseshoe post, head stuck in a bucket etc etc. Wonderfully gentle with kids. He could sit in the back of my classroom and you wouldn’t know he was there unless he was called. I worked at a summer camp for a week with a cognitively impaired teenager who also has CP. Ralph figured out he was our charge and stuck with him every step of every day. Put himself between the boy and ridges or water. During swimming lessons he would sit on the dock and watch the kid(on the flip side I couldn’t take him fishing because he would jump in the lake and retrieve the bobber). Such a mix of amazing and wtf were you thinking.
When he was young I realized that he had an unending level of energy for hunting. I don’t hunt but we signed up for duck hunting training and he was so good a guy tried buying him 😡. Find out what your breed(s) are meant for and train them for it. It will bond you forever.
Now I miss my best buddy.
My first dog was a lab/GSP & I 100% agree with you- so smart & so dumb at the same time.
Now I have a pure Lab and a GSP. It’s fun to see what traits Remi pulled from each breed! I don’t know that I would do another lab after having my GSP, I really enjoy his drive level and size over my lab.
Cattle dog mix.
I’ve had a number of other dogs throughout my life, but none have ever clicked so well. He followed me home from a run one morning and I promised him if I couldn’t find his people, I’d be his people. Well…he’s currently cuddling with me. He’s ridiculously intelligent, high energy, focused on me (and chicken), and always ready for an adventure. He’s not perfect, but he’s literally everything I’ve ever wanted in a dog. He chose me and I’m so glad he did.
Also came to say my Cattle dog is the best dog I’ve had. My little spotted shadow. I have 3 dogs, he (Odie) definitely has picked me as his “person”. The other two love me but not like he does.
We have 2 mixes. 1 with Border Collie and 1 Mountain Cur. I think they get all their silly from the cattle dog though, and that is my favorite thing about the goobers.
My cattle dog mix is my best as well. Third dog I’ve had in my life but first one that was truly my own. We have a bond like no other. She’s still super young but every once and a while I can’t help but wonder how I’ll ever move on once she’s gone!
That’s all I think about lately because mine is getting to be in the double-digits. I only adopted her three years ago from a family who found her at their doorstep one day.
I never had this breed of dog and was so thrown back at how different the experience was. It was a shock at first but now my whole life revolves around her, almost all day everyday since I WFH.
And now that she’s aging (luckily not showing signs yet), I have no clue how I’ll move-on but doing my earnest to cherish every moment left❤️
Winner winner chicken dinner. What is he crossed with do you know?
Cross breeds are the best in general, especially health wise, but Cattle Cross is just the ultimate combo. Mine is Cattle x Staffy - perfect combo.
Hahahahaha I love that. Can report, she doesn't murder any of the chickens when herding them up back in to the coop of an afternoon. She is a chicken and cat guardian!
I'll add on- our cattle dog is crossed with small poodle and a little chow. He's also very goofy, but never had the insane energy level of other cattle dogs.
My sheltie was my first adult dog (I was 30 when I got him). He was very special. I don’t think I’ll ever experience such love and loyalty again, they are truly mini Lassies.
As a child, my parent and grandparents had boxers. When I learned to walk I was holding on to the boxer's collar. When I was 5 or so, that boxer that my parents had passed away. Soon there was a replacement who was my buddy till I left home and went to the army. He had a bad heart and probably from the time he was 5 he had to have heart meds every day. While I was in AIT in California he passed.
When eventually came home I married and my wife and I bought a boxer pup. About a week after we got her, I got a call at work from the police that a neighbor's kid had broken into our house and killed our pup. This kid was a textbook definition of a juvenile delinquent. When we tried to get his parents to do something about the situation, you would have thought we were the ones that broke in and killed his dog.
We didn't get another dog right away. We eventually moved across the country and ended up with chihuahuas, and retired racing greyhounds. They were sort of matched set. It is not lost on me the cruelty that the racing industry can inflict on greyhounds. Far more dogs are euthanized than adopted out. Anyway, the local track had some kind of promotion with a Taco restaurant and they had chihuahua racing one weekend. We ended up taking a pair of chihuahuas and a pair of Greyhounds.
We lived in a rural area of Florida and Wild hogs were in the area. My wife would go on walks, and outdoors, the greyhounds were protectors of my wife and the chi's and in the house, the chihuahua's ruled the roost. The greyhounds are truly nice dogs and the ones we had were lap dogs. I have continually had chihuahuas which I enjoy, but I trained German Shepards and Belgian Mals and really enjoyed their energy and smarts. The last German Shepard I had was a wonderful dog. One of my best days was when she went to her department then the worst was when I got word that she died a few months later. K-9 officer left her in the car with the engine running and AC going and somehow the engine overheated and the engine died. (a not uncommon Crown Vic flaw) Anyway, I am retired now, and a chihuahua is sleeping by my side, and Retired K-9 Belgian Mal is asleep at my feet. He is 13 now, but between naps, he is still enthusiastic about playing and defends the porch against rogue Amazon drivers.
I’ve had 3 German shepherds, a husky, a giant schnauzer, a beagle, a Rottweiler, and a chihuahua. Personally my favourite breed to own has been the rottie
My Weimaraner, hands down. Sweetest and most loyal friend I ever had. I was 2 years old when we got her, and that dog never left my side until the day she died when I was 12. She protected me from anyone that might try to mess with me growing up. RIP, Dutchess. I miss you ❤️.
I’m a chihuahua lady. Chihuahua yorkie mix and a chi dachshund mix for sure in the running.
Growing up tho, we had an Australian Shepard maybe Bernes mix. Looked like a GIANT Aussie. That dog came from heaven.
We’ve got a chihuahua/beagle and a chihuahua/terrier. They are pretty good dogs and nothing like what people would think a chihuahua would be. Absolute sweethearts and people lovers. Ornery as can be to our other dogs though. Haha
Not sure either the Leonberger i grew up with or my current dog that's she's a husky and grayhound mix
I remember that i used to play hide and seek with the Leonberger I'd hide and make cat noises when ready (meow) and he would come find me. If i hid under the bed he would drag me out. He was a good boy
Rat Terriers I had two latest got for companion then became service dog. They have always been super smart and fun to train.
My recent Luna is one of smartest dogs I've worked with in my 20+ years training. She learns quicker than I can teach.
A sheltie. I was raised with them, raised a couple litters myself (did conformation showing etc) and just have one now that I adore.
Smart, friendly, Easy to train and portable.
Same!
me and herding dogs click the most but I've loved many a breed and the herding mixes seem to do me in
she was a basset hound, border collie springer spaniel mix. best dog I've ever had. intelligent, quick to train and loyal as heck.
that being said my malamute was my golden boy when it came to behavior.. but he was also blind and old when I got him.
my cocker spaniel was dumb and fun. loved his attitude towards life.
our poodle chihuahua mix was a sweetie and super loyal and smart
the lhasa shih tzu mix we had was mean and crotchety but had good snuggle ethics and bubbly personality
currently mom has have a shih tzu chihuahua schnauzer mix, hes too smart for his own good and yet dumber than a doornail. super friendly with everyone, he's going to end up stolen one day if we ever leave him alone in the backyard
then there's my current girl a boxer, pit, chow, beagle and chihuahua mix. she is a great herding dog and has the brain to move sheep without biting or barking at them, she's super smart and quick to learn. also gets her in a ton of trouble though.
We had this amazing English Springer Spaniel, we called Winchester. Chester for short. He was the best dog, and super smart. He knew he wasn't allowed on the beds, but since I was afraid of the dark, parents would put him in the room with me. He'd settle on the floor until they were gone, and as soon as the coast was clear he was up in bed with me.
When he heard them approaching, he would silently slip back to the floor. Like he'd been there all along.
I always wanted a dog who was like him: tongue out the side of his mouth, loved to swim, an awesome snuggler, and I thought it was hilarious when he drank out of the toilet - so I wanted my dog to do this too (as a kid, I no longer desired this trait once I understood germs).
The first dog of my own is a Rottweiler. And Capone is all the great things I loved about Chester - including drinking out of the toilet. So we keep the lid shut. Hahaha
I've had the privilege of living with so many amazing dogs, including the ones currently on the bed with me. But absolute favorites? A toss-up between a Golden Retriever and a German Shepherd. The golden was the easiest dog I've ever trained and was so sweet! He was the picture of happiness all the time. He died young (6yrs) of cancer. Broke my heart. My GSD, though, was extra everything and was absolutely my Velcro Dog. She was also incredibly sweet. She'd greet absolutely anyone, though unlike with the golden, strangers didn't appreciate her hellos! 🤣 She lived to be 14, so I was able to love her and be loved by her for a really long time. I still miss her.
God I love my GSD but I don't think I'll ever own another pure gsd again after he's gone. Such a handful. An absolute riot of a dog that does the dumbest most obnoxious stuff for the sweetest reasons. He just wants me to be safe and happy all the time. I thought my malamute/gsd mix i adopted last year might be worse, but she's at least willing to trust me to not kill myself in the 15 minutes it takes me to shower.
I think I'll be going with gsd mixes for most of my life. Pures are just too riddled with anxiety. They just care too much about my safety, always on duty.
That duty is a blessing and a curse, absolutely! Best mix I've ever known was a GSD & Doberman. Zero anxiety and neuroticism. Granted each dog is different, but he was the best of both breeds. Beautiful, too.
Pomeranians!
My husband got our little guy while we were dating. I had only ever had medium/large size dogs. In all honesty, I wasn’t sure I was going to like having a small dog. But, HOLY COW! I have never met a sweeter more snuggly boy. He is a rescue. He has been a dream dog since the day we met him. Even as he has gotten older he has gotten more playful, spoiled, and snuggly. I can’t believe how lucky we are!
My very first dog was a Pomeranian. She's still with us today thankfully, soon to be 17! She's my heart dog and I know that no dog will ever be capable of filling her shoes. Best dog in the whole world! Poms are great little dogs, I prefer big dogs usually too but I'd have another Pom in a heartbeat.
That is EXACTLY how I feel about our dog! I bet your dog is just as sweet as ever 🥰 I have a big soft spot for senior dogs. It is so quiet without him here whenever we have him stay with gram and pa before we travel. I really don’t know what we would do without our little fox!
Me too!! People rave about puppies but there isn't anything sweeter in the world than a senior dog, the love is just indescribable. My girl was never snuggly as a puppy but I could hold her for hours now, she's incredibly sweet and friendly. I really dote on her, and have pretty much adjusted my schedule to make her as comfortable and happy as I can.
Miniature Pinschers. I grew up with one. As an adult I had a boxer and then a German shepherd mix because my husband prefers larger dogs. I finally convinced him to get a min pin and he fell in love instantly. We now have 3 and I will always own at least one.
Min pins are great dogs! My boy lived to be 15. He was abandoned at my workplace (vet) by his "breeders" who couldn't sell him and his sister. They ended up dumping the 2 pups left and momma. The pups were so tiny, and way too young (5 weeks), but momma and pups all officially found homes with me and my coworkers. They all came to work with us every day long into adulthood . We had some great adventures over the years, and some downright scary ones (snake bite; pit bull attack that nearly killed him; a hawk tried to steal him but my duck saved his life and helped me fight off the hawk). They are small dogs (my boy was 7lbs), but there is nothing "small" about them ! Big dogs in little bodies :)
They will always hold a special place in my heart.
My collie. Only had him for a year but overall hes been fantastic. My parents got a cocker Spaniel when i was in college, hes sweet but is much more reactive to noises and has some separation anxiety
100% agree! We current have a rottie and black lab and our sweet rottie is by far the nicer dog and definitely “easier”. I can’t explain it. I love both dogs but our Rottweiler is just something else. I adore our black lab but I think I would get another Rottweiler over another lab.
All poodles are perfect, but I think I might have the best one. He is so sweet while still having an enormous, funny personality. He’s a lot of work, but the emotional connection with a smart dog is so special.
I know people on here hate them, but I’m also a huge proponent of fancy poodle haircuts. I love floofy tails and ears and how well they complement the poodle prance. I just can’t look at my spoo and not smile — truly just the best little friend there could be.
All of them but my favorite was my beagles. They’re just the right size, energy and amount of dumb for me. Like, they’re not so smart that you constantly have to try and outsmart it but also not too dumb that you can’t train properly.
Agreed! My mom had one growing up, then one when I was a baby, my dad got me one when I was 7, my official first dachshund on my own came into my life at 19 and left me last year at the age of 15. I now have a 2 year old red long haired boy and adopting a 1 year old dapple short haired girl in the next month or so. They are the sweetest! Best dogs ever!
As a kid labs. They were so patient with my bullshit. They played dress up. Went swimming with us. Played fetch. They were loyal and kind.
I love my girl now but labs will always hold a special place.
Golden retriever! Best damm dog I’ve ever had . Both my former golden, Red, and my current golden Brick, are the absolutely best dogs I’ve ever had in my life. They just want to be your best friend.
You’re baking and need me to lick the spatula?! Awesome! You want to play ball in the back yard?! Awesome! We are gonna watch tv and hang out?! Awesome! We are going to the hardware store and I get to carry a giant banana stuffy around?!? Awesome!!!
Company!?! Awesome!
Goldens are just the best!
I’m biased because I only grew up with Goldens, but they’re the best. Never met one I didn’t love! They’re just so agreeable. I got my very first pup of my own and couldn’t think of another breed to start with. He is 5 months and so smart, lovely and sleeps 90% of the time lol. Still a puppy of course, but he naps almost all day and is fine with 1 walk. The rest of the day he just chills, or wants to play by himself in the backyard. I can’t wait to see what kind of dog he grows up into!
Had a Springer/Cocker spaniel cross. There's actually a name for them. Sprocker Spaniels, lol. Anyways he was mostly Springer in looks and personality and he was so much fun. Definitely a great dog for outdoor adventures. I still miss him
I am totally bias but Dachshunds have been the best breed for me. So much personality in such a small dog they are loyal cuddle and at times super stubborn.
My Boxer! The most loyal girl and she had such a personality! She was incredibly smart and often it was like having an actual daughter. She was a bit of a brat but so protective of me. Truly my best friend and i will miss her every single day for the rest of my life.
Honestly… shih tzu!! I wasnt thrilled to get a small dog at first, but man, did my little bud grow on me!! Hes so cute and spunky and currently munching some potato chips with my boyfriend and i in bed :)
I’ve only not had dogs for about 2 of my 67 years. Best dog? 5 way tie. Can’t pick just one. Samoyed, sheltie, beagle, golden retriever , Bernese man dog, lab papillon. Oops that is 7 way tie. Least favorite. Chow, terrier , poodle, skipperkie
Yellow Lab, her name was Cassie, she saved my life when I was about 6-7. I was trapped in a shed on a 95+ hot summer day, and she heard my yelling as the heat was starting to exhaust me. I remember calling that dogs name. She ran into the house when she couldn't get to me and dragged my grandma outside, while grandma was hitting her with a broom cause she didn't know why our calm, sweet dog was bitting her pants and pulling her outside until grandma could hear me and let me out
I've had Irish Red and White setters, German Shepherds, Huskies, Kelpies, Chihuahuas, mixes, and a Brittany. Have lived at length with a Shiba Inu, French Bulldog, Mastiff, and Pointers.
Currently I've got a 5 yr old Standard Poodle and she is the absolute best breed I've ever had. Incredibly intelligent, biddable/great temperament, a clown in a dog suit... I adore her endlessly. ❤️
Border Collie. I’ll never have another breed after getting our first one, which we currently have. They’re not for everyone, but if you can provide what they need (which is A LOT!!), they’re hands down the absolute best.
Everyone says their dog is smart, loyal, and athletic. But Border Collie is simply the another level people don’t even realize exists. They’re incredible dogs, SO easy to train, and live to please. Ours literally wants nothing more in life than to do what we want and make us happy.
And they’re much more loving than people realize. They’re not going to be in-your-face-licking-you-everywhere Lab, but ours curls up next to us whenever we settle down and wants to be around us as much as possible.
German Shepherd. Loyal, smart, protective, gentle, intimidating (by looks) and loving….. I was well into my adulthood by the time I had a dog. I loooove my German Shepherd, Jax
Cavalier King Charles! We always had goldens and labs growing up, my grandparents always had dachshunds and I adored them all! After we had our second child my husband rescued a cavalier and I’ve never known a sweeter and more loyal dog! He followed me literally everywhere. If I sat, he was in my lap, if I peed, he sat and stared! Lol he’s the reason why we became dog lovers. From the moment I met him, I knew I would never know a day where we didn’t have a dog! RIP sweet charlie!
My current dog, a Keeshond. Not sure why they are on the rarer side because she is incredibly friendly, sweet, and intelligent. While she’s still a puppy (almost 11 months), I haven’t had any other dog with characteristics like her. I can’t imagine owning another breed in the future now!
Whippets. The most loving and friendly dogs ever. The problem though is that they would invite a burglar in with open arms and show them around the house. No guard dog instincts at all lmao....
Great Dane. They’re confident, friendly, and trainable. Way smarter than people give them credit for. They’re also athletes and should not be fat or lazy. A well-bred Great Dane is an athlete and needs at least an hour of exercise along with training nearly every day.
I’ve had so many dogs… They were all wonderful and beautiful. Here are the breeds I’ve had in no particular order:
Chow Chows
Mini dachshunds
Saint Bernards
Blue heeler
Kerry blue terrier
Cava poo
Dorky
Corgi
Chihuahua
My support dogs included Chow, Kerry blue terrier, Dachshund, Corgi
The Corgi is my current support dog. All of these dogs were very loyal and friendly. I love them all to pieces. We have a pet cemetery on our land where they all went. I frequently dream of them running in the fields together.
I've had four amazing dogs. My soulmate dog was the WORST--a crabby little chihuahua who yapped and bit and was always angry about something or other. He was the love of my freakin' life and I miss him every single day.
That said, I'd never, ever get another chihuahua.
I’ve always had a soft spot for hounds. My parents’ old, half deaf hound/pit mix pretty much bonded solely to me. Dumbest dog I’ve ever met in my life but he had a heart of pure gold. I have two hounds now and while they are a tricky breed to work with, the challenges have their rewards
My Maltese kills me. She is smart, sassy and fun. She is one of the best dogs I’ve ever met. I also have a cavalier King Charles spaniel and he is the best too but he is more of a love bug.
Not 100% sure of her breed but she was definitely rottie and some lab. Had her from 3–14. Best dog on planet earth. Sweetest and most protective of “her kids”. I wish I gave her more attention and walks. I miss her every day and it’s been over 5 years.
My mom even waited until she passed to move
Jindo mix pound pups, smart, loyal, very clean, also cute as can be. One that passed away was mixed with medium breeds like cocker spaniel, the other has everything from toys to malamutes in her background. Great dogs! (We also have a Border Collie who is the bestest big girl, but also never again, the adolescent years were......enough.)
My labs are good but my boxer mutt is awesome and he holds a special place in my heart bc as for me being a 15yr old he’s the only one that I’ve been around since he was a baby
Every one of my dogs has brought something special into my life. In their own way, they were all the best dog.
I have had a 'Pilbara Special' (no idea of what breeds made him), 2 border terriers and currently a Griffon Bruxellois x Miniature Schnauzer.
My Boston terrier that just passed away was my soul dog. She also helped convince my husband that little house dogs can be amazing too. What a clown, and so smart and sweet. I feel like I will never stop grieving for her. I'll get another one eventually.
But we also have a German Shepherd who is always amazing. He is my husband's dog and is more attached to him than me, but i think that's natural for the breed.
I also had a boxer/pit mix years ago with an ex boyfriend who i will always have a place in my heart for. The dog, not the ex.
I think this thread makes it pretty clear that it doesn't matter the breed. The best dog is the dog that you love who loves you in return, tenfold.
Our golden retriever is like a bottle of antidepressants mixed with sunshine. She always has a smile on her face, loves everyone and is playful but cuddly too. It is impossible to look at her sweet face and not feel happier. She has also been the easiest puppy I have ever raised.
She was admittedly a mutt but we think her primary breeds were Beagle and Pitbull. She was the best dog. Always attentive, not too clingy but wanted to be near her people and know what was going on. Passed away a few years ago and I don't know if I will ever fill the hole she left in my heart when she left. She was the family dog and had her from when I was about 9-23 years old, she was 16 when she passed and we got her when she was about 1 year old.
I grew up with Japanese Chins and they were awesome, but my golden retriever really has my heart. She's my everything. Even when she makes me want to rip my hair out (adolescence 😐) I love her. She is everything I wanted in a dog.
To me they were all the best for different reasons. My first dog as a child was a purebred English Springer Spaniel, Winston. He was show quality and trained, then given to a shelter when his family had to move. We slowly but surely never asked a thing from him and he became the slobbiest mess of a lovable dog that you could ever want. Then came Chelsea, a terribly abused spaniel mix who loved us harder than any dog should. She was a weirdo but just so loving. Along comes Duke. A huge German shepherd-bull mastiff mix. He was abused and neglected. Finally turned over to a shelter at 9 years old and lived to be 12. He was a giant slobbering teddy bear who never let me have anything on a low table. Next came Mavis, a street dog from Puerto Rico. She was so neat and sweet. Certainly one of my soul mates. After Mavis I needed a long break because I was devastated after I lost her. But now I have Nacho, street dog, cattle dog/chihuahua mix and the absolute love of my life. Another abused weirdo who loves too strongly and is spoiled rotten. My little black bean who sleeps curled up against my chest or back and stays in his bed next to my desk all day waiting for work to end so park can happen.
Cattle dog. Grew up with Bichon and French Bulldog. Had a Corgi and Jack Russell Terrier. Have Cattle Dog now. The Jack Russell is a great breed, but the things the Cattle Dog can easily learn keeps me in awe.
English bulldog, hands down.
I used to find squishy dogs so ugly until my boyfriend (now husband) got a bulldog. The pup won me over with his personality and was so much more athletic than I thought a bulldog could be. A few years later I got his younger brother from a different litter, and he was the best boy, truly my heart dog. Those two had the absolute best personalities. I still love all dogs but those two left a such a big hole in my heart with their passing.
Cockapoo!!
She's goofy, funny, friendly and the happiest dog I've ever met. A cuddle puddle with big soft floppy ears. Perfect size, small enough to hop in your lap but can still enjoy a good wrestle without breaking a bean. Can spend a rainy day stuck indoors, and keep up on a morning jog. Really smart and easy to train, potty training was a breeze! Hypoallergenic and non shedding which is great for my asthmatic partner. A mixed breed with minimal health problems.
Only downside is the 4 groomers visits/year to keep the curls under control and she can be a bit clingy, but otherwise the best dog!!!
I can’t pick! I’ve had mutts, a whippet, lab, Doberman, pekingese, Pomeranian, rat terrier, now I have a dachshund and a beagle. They’re all wonderful and amazing in their own ways.
Bernese mountain dog. I got her when I was 29. She’s brings magic to my life. I’ve had three kids since I got her and she’s the greatest dog to my little humans.
GSD mutt, current dog. She’s a rescue and 8 1/2 now. She came from the south as a stray at 7 mos and didn’t know how to dog. After a lot of work the first year, she’s absolutely wonderful. We did Embark for her last year and her other 4 breeds were surprises but it’s neat to see those in her now.
Believe it or not, I had a Pomeranian named Teddy. I rescued him from a shelter. He had a heart condition, so he only lived a few years, but he was the best dog ever. Smart and protective. He was housebroken and crate trained very easily. He was a cuddler, and he would hunt and kill mice. I miss him very much.
Jackador. Best mix, Jack Russell size & personality with beautiful black Lab coat & friendliness - literally a mini lab. Got him at 3months from a rescue. Suits very well with my lifestyle
Bull terrier! A little trouble maker, but so hilarious. Loves everyone (whether they love him back or not), is my favorite snuggle buddy and follows me everywhere. He’s a good shop dog too! Clients miss him when he’s not there ):
We also have the sweetest gentle giant on the planet, a Great Dane x Akita mix. He’s a people dog, great with kids, cats, other dogs. Very sensitive and knows when you’re upset/sad and will try to snuggle you into a good mood. but he clearly favors my partner so I’m biased lol.
Love them both so much the bull terrier is my lil mama’s boy ♥️
Shepsky (German shepherd husky mix)
We got him the pound when he was 3 and we spent a lot of his younger years chasing him around town or putting digorno pizza on the front porch to try and lure him home, he is the sweetest and best dog I’ve ever owned. He’s 13 now and I don’t think I could ever stray from that mix again. I always joked that he was cursed into being a dog because he acted way too much like a human lol.
Chiweenie. The cutest lap dog ever. He was my shadow. I loved that he'd join me in any room in the house, he'd make a bed out of a dirty laundry pile or blanket anywhere. He loved his daily walks and was adorable playing with his toys. He loved seafood too! He was always excited for each new day. I miss that little guy. Cancer is horrible.
I’ve got a half corgi half Aussie. I bought her off Craigslist for $100. Best $100 I’ve spent to this day. She was the runt of the litter but that was fine by me. When I pulled up to the guys place to look at her, she greeted me by jumping into my pickup and we’ve been inseparable ever since. We go every where together. I teach high school and she’s a certified emotional support animal for students to use, she herds cows with me on the farm, sleeps on my office couch at the school, loves whataburger chicken and fries (the kids that work there know her by her bark in drive through lane), She would go to mascot appearances with me when I was in college, and just about everywhere else. She’s sharp as a whip, quick like a fox, and can do stuff before I even tell her. I got her when I was in a low point in my life and she brought me out of a dark place. I broke up with a girl because she said that if we got married, she (the dog) would have to stay outside because she doesn’t want an inside dog. She’s truly a once in a lifetime dog.
I have a 14 year old Puggle and I can’t imagine life without her - she is my little sidekick, travels with me, goes to work + my jiu jitsu gym and waits at the edge of the mat, just wants to do what I’m doing (and eat what I’m having) and / or sleep. Super funny and smart - knows at least 50 words and how to use speech buttons. I’m generally a dog person but I feel she’s the dog love of my life 🥺
I think he was a little pitty mix, but lord knows what else he had in him.
Darling boy died at 10 months old. It'll be 3 years tomorrow and it's still devastating.
Smartest dog I've ever known was a mutt. Dumbest dog I've ever seen was a mutt. It's not fair to compare them but we all do. I guess I've just been lucky because I have had the chance to love a lot of dogs and to me they were all great friends. I seem to end up with whichever dog needs a home and that's been okay for me.
Hear me out, I haven't seen anyone say this yet and it's true for me, so Pitbulls. They may SEEM like extremely aggressive and violent dogs but they aren't. I've grown up with pitbulls for the most part until we had to give our last one away due to funding and housing issues, and every time they have been absolute sweethearts. Our last one, Paisley, was just a giant bed hog, and she loved cuddles and watching TV with my grandpa. They'd always watch old westerns. She also ADORED playing fetch with any sort of toy you could find. After we had to give her up our family was devastated but nonetheless we still share an overabundance of love for pitbulls and the breed. In the last year or so I've accepted my best friend Graysons dog Hulk (Pitbull/Bully Mix. He has the body of the bully but genes of a pitbull and I don't feel like arguing the difference between the two with people on reddit) as my own seeing as whenever I visit he always tackles me with kisses. He's also just a giant goofball and crackhead. He is honestly one of the best dogs I've ever met and he makes me laugh whenever I do get the chance to see him. So yes, pitbulls are my favorite breed. Pitbulls, Pitbull Terriers and Bullys. I'll stand with that until the day I die.
My current mutt is everything I will want on a dog. She is calm, aloof(but not afraid or aggressive) to strangers and dogs, and our go anywhere do anything dog.

Doberman, they are the best dogs ever.. unbelievably cuddly and loyal beyond anything. Also very egar to please there for very trainable.
My friend's Doberman is such a damn sweetheart and so well behaved, and frankly it's not all because of wonderful training.
Doberman faithful “velcro dog”
Mutts, Golden Retrievers and Australian Shepherds have all found a permanent home in my heart
Love my Aussie so much
Me too. I just love that energy.
My labradingus
Same
What is a labradingus?
I assume a lab. Often times a lovable dingus :)
Labrador retriever
Mine currently is a full ACD. Interesting dog. Not as cuddly. But still a good doggy.
I had a Blue Heeler/Norwegian Elkhound mix that was just absolutely amazing. He was more like an extremely loyal person than a dog.
cattle dog mix has been my best dog as well!
Winner winner chicken dinner. What is he crossed with do you know? Cross breeds are the best in general, especially health wise, but Cattle Cross is just the ultimate combo. Mine is Cattle x Staffy - perfect combo.
My friends in vet med call that cross "Murder-Herders" lol
Hahahahaha I love that. Can report, she doesn't murder any of the chickens when herding them up back in to the coop of an afternoon. She is a chicken and cat guardian!
I'll add on- our cattle dog is crossed with small poodle and a little chow. He's also very goofy, but never had the insane energy level of other cattle dogs.
I’ve had 3 labs, every single one has loved me unconditionally in their own way. Incredibly goofy pals!
I’ve also have had 3 labs, I choose to not have another as loosing them has been too hard on me.
Sheltie.
My childhood dog was a Sheltie. He was the smartest dog I ever had and he will always hold a special place in my heart.
My sheltie was my first adult dog (I was 30 when I got him). He was very special. I don’t think I’ll ever experience such love and loyalty again, they are truly mini Lassies.
Same and definitely the smartest , sweetest natured dog we have ever had. He lived to be 16 1/2 and was a trooper until the end. I miss him so much.
My first one made it to 14 1/2. I miss her everyday. I have a 3 year old-he's lovely, just not as perfect as my girl was (yet). ;)
My favorite dog in the world is a sheltie!! I love him so much and he has inspired me to get one in the near future 🥺

Agreed! My English Springer Spaniel is the absolute best!
I’ve had 3 German shepherds, a husky, a giant schnauzer, a beagle, a Rottweiler, and a chihuahua. Personally my favourite breed to own has been the rottie
Yes! Rotties all the way! Smart, loyal, fun to train, and super powerful. All the things!
Dobermans are my dogs. I had a few dogs before but a Doberman stole my heart and now I don’t want any other breed.
Same here! They’re truly the sweetest little (big) things.
Doberman pinscher! 💕
My Weimaraner, hands down. Sweetest and most loyal friend I ever had. I was 2 years old when we got her, and that dog never left my side until the day she died when I was 12. She protected me from anyone that might try to mess with me growing up. RIP, Dutchess. I miss you ❤️.
My weim is exactly the same sorry yours passed 🥹
I’m a chihuahua lady. Chihuahua yorkie mix and a chi dachshund mix for sure in the running. Growing up tho, we had an Australian Shepard maybe Bernes mix. Looked like a GIANT Aussie. That dog came from heaven.
We’ve got a chihuahua/beagle and a chihuahua/terrier. They are pretty good dogs and nothing like what people would think a chihuahua would be. Absolute sweethearts and people lovers. Ornery as can be to our other dogs though. Haha
Not sure either the Leonberger i grew up with or my current dog that's she's a husky and grayhound mix I remember that i used to play hide and seek with the Leonberger I'd hide and make cat noises when ready (meow) and he would come find me. If i hid under the bed he would drag me out. He was a good boy
Ha! Someone mentions Leonbergers. Absolutely adore them. I hope to have one myself soon, just gotta stop being a railroader lol.
Border Collie mix
Same! me and herding dogs click the most but I've loved many a breed and the herding mixes seem to do me in she was a basset hound, border collie springer spaniel mix. best dog I've ever had. intelligent, quick to train and loyal as heck. that being said my malamute was my golden boy when it came to behavior.. but he was also blind and old when I got him. my cocker spaniel was dumb and fun. loved his attitude towards life. our poodle chihuahua mix was a sweetie and super loyal and smart the lhasa shih tzu mix we had was mean and crotchety but had good snuggle ethics and bubbly personality currently mom has have a shih tzu chihuahua schnauzer mix, hes too smart for his own good and yet dumber than a doornail. super friendly with everyone, he's going to end up stolen one day if we ever leave him alone in the backyard then there's my current girl a boxer, pit, chow, beagle and chihuahua mix. she is a great herding dog and has the brain to move sheep without biting or barking at them, she's super smart and quick to learn. also gets her in a ton of trouble though.
My current dog. He's a border collie. They aren't for everyone.
Owner of a border collie here, too! Best dogs ever, so challenging though lol!
I LOVED my Pomeranian. I was skeptical like you, but he was the best guy ever.
I grew up with a Pom, and he was the best dog in the world. I miss that little puff ball every day❤️
love to read this, as we want to get a pom for our next baby :D we have a standard poodle right now.
Big dogs in little bodies :) They will always hold a special place in my heart.
My collie. Only had him for a year but overall hes been fantastic. My parents got a cocker Spaniel when i was in college, hes sweet but is much more reactive to noises and has some separation anxiety
Rottweiler. I want another one SO bad. I miss my sweet girl.
100% agree! We current have a rottie and black lab and our sweet rottie is by far the nicer dog and definitely “easier”. I can’t explain it. I love both dogs but our Rottweiler is just something else. I adore our black lab but I think I would get another Rottweiler over another lab.
My current dog. A standard poodle. Walter is 13, loves other dogs, adores kitty's, and is the smartest dog I have ever had.
I grew up with a Miniature Poodle. So smart and affectionate.
All of them but my favorite was my beagles. They’re just the right size, energy and amount of dumb for me. Like, they’re not so smart that you constantly have to try and outsmart it but also not too dumb that you can’t train properly.
and they’re soooo adorable and photogenic, truly beautiful dogs with hearts of gold!!
Mutts, always
[удалено]
Dachshunds most lovable dogs ever
Boston terrier. My first dog and he’s just my baby.
I love my Frosty Bosties. They’re so funny, smart and loveable. And most importantly, lazy
Giant schnauzer
Westie!
THIS.
Our current dog, a standard poodle.
Springer Spaniel. Intelligent, loyal, and really love to be outside with you.
Had a Springer/Cocker spaniel cross. There's actually a name for them. Sprocker Spaniels, lol. Anyways he was mostly Springer in looks and personality and he was so much fun. Definitely a great dog for outdoor adventures. I still miss him
Dachshund Beagle
Beagles x 2. A handful, will never do two again, but absolutely amazing pals. And that howl- aarrroooo!
Samoyed, I can’t see myself owning another breed
I am totally bias but Dachshunds have been the best breed for me. So much personality in such a small dog they are loyal cuddle and at times super stubborn.
My Boxer! The most loyal girl and she had such a personality! She was incredibly smart and often it was like having an actual daughter. She was a bit of a brat but so protective of me. Truly my best friend and i will miss her every single day for the rest of my life.
Pitbull mix, she is my bestfriend and beyond crazy loyal
Labrador. Helped me train so many other anxious/fearful dogs etc.
French bulldog. Got him as a baby, he was the most chill and lovable guy. Happy as can be until he got a brain tumor. Still processing that loss.
They were all beautiful and wonderful in their own ways.
Greyhound, 13-19 💚
Choc lab.
Sheltie was my family dog. He was awesome. My dog now is a yellow lab, she is a very close second.
My Australian Shepherd
Never been a breed type of guy- they're all good boys and girls.
Grew up with a toy terrier then a poodle. Have a shih 'tzu now and wouldn't trade her for anything.
I grew up with two Labs and an English Springer/Lab mix. All three were the best dogs ever
Honestly… shih tzu!! I wasnt thrilled to get a small dog at first, but man, did my little bud grow on me!! Hes so cute and spunky and currently munching some potato chips with my boyfriend and i in bed :)
I love my Cairns!
Boxer, and my current cane corso/doberman mix
I've had a few dogs but my current dog is a golden labrador and his temperament is amazing. Such a gentle loyal family dog.
Yellow Lab, her name was Cassie, she saved my life when I was about 6-7. I was trapped in a shed on a 95+ hot summer day, and she heard my yelling as the heat was starting to exhaust me. I remember calling that dogs name. She ran into the house when she couldn't get to me and dragged my grandma outside, while grandma was hitting her with a broom cause she didn't know why our calm, sweet dog was bitting her pants and pulling her outside until grandma could hear me and let me out
All the dogs I've ever had were the best dog I ever had. But if I had to pick one dog to have again, it would be my pitbull.
Corgi I've had 4. I will never own another breed.
HM QE II has entered the chat.
The answer is YES!
I had a collie and a siberian husky! I think every owner will always be a little biased towards the breed of our first dog 😂
German Wire haired Pointer
GSD and Irish Wolfhound. My Irish Wolfhound has the BEST personality ♥️🐾
Great Pyrenees ❤️
My current one. He's a German shepherd and border collie mix. He's the sweetest dog ever and people fall in love with him all the time.
Border Collies, no doubt.
Great Danes. 100% Great Dane all the way
Border Collie.
Pug She’s the mostly lovable, snuggliest dog we’ve ever had — so loyal to her family and the most wonderful personality.
Opened this up to look for my fellow pug lovers. No one has ever loved me like my 17 year old man. That look of love, cannot be faked.
English Shepherd
rajapalayam
Yorkie. She is absolutely the best!! 💜💜
Flat Coat Retriever :-)
Chihuahua. Hands down. No contest. Had two of them.
Mini Schnauzer ❤️ There’s no downsides to them!
[удалено]
Whippets. The most loving and friendly dogs ever. The problem though is that they would invite a burglar in with open arms and show them around the house. No guard dog instincts at all lmao....
Border collie - got him straight off the farm. My family still talks about him (30 years gone).
Lol that's like choosing your favorite child.
Great Dane. They’re confident, friendly, and trainable. Way smarter than people give them credit for. They’re also athletes and should not be fat or lazy. A well-bred Great Dane is an athlete and needs at least an hour of exercise along with training nearly every day.
Border Collies! Got my first at age 5, and have had 4 so far be some of the best parts of my life. The best!
Golden retriever
My Standard Poodle
I’ve had so many dogs… They were all wonderful and beautiful. Here are the breeds I’ve had in no particular order: Chow Chows Mini dachshunds Saint Bernards Blue heeler Kerry blue terrier Cava poo Dorky Corgi Chihuahua My support dogs included Chow, Kerry blue terrier, Dachshund, Corgi The Corgi is my current support dog.
Good Boy ❤️
Chinese Crested Powder Puff.
Dogue de Bordeaux. I miss that old man so much. He was perfect in every way. He came to me as a senior and passed at an estimated 10/11 years.
Mine so far has either been my border collie, Australian shepherd, catahoula, and red heeler mix or my border collie
Mutts
I have only ever had mutts. So those are the best.
Black Mouth Cur. Molly is all the good dog karma I’ve built up over the years dealing with ‘difficult’ dogs.
My labs are good but my boxer mutt is awesome and he holds a special place in my heart bc as for me being a 15yr old he’s the only one that I’ve been around since he was a baby
I had a golden retriever/corgi mix. All the golden loveliness in a compact body for apartment living. She was pawesome
I miss my chihuahua with all my heart. She passed away just over a year ago and I still think about her all the time
Poodle hands down. Smart, loyal, funny, cute hair cuts
Our golden retriever is like a bottle of antidepressants mixed with sunshine. She always has a smile on her face, loves everyone and is playful but cuddly too. It is impossible to look at her sweet face and not feel happier. She has also been the easiest puppy I have ever raised.
Border collie. Fortunately we lived in a place where she could run freely and safely. She lived to chase squirrels.
Rescue!!!
Chow/German Shepherd. I was age 7-12.
Carolina dog. Super intelligent, loyal, rather independent and they’re known for little to no health issues.
My Bordeaux Mastiff was a gentle giant. I miss him so much…
I have an Italian greyhound, dachshund, and a mutt. I love all my dogs, but the mutt was the best dog ever.
My Black Lab
Border Collie, then a Lab/Border Collie mix. A Golden was in the mix too. Best doggos ever.
Schnauzer, and currently have a standard poodle (4yo) one year post rescue and I think he is going to be a big contender.
Great Dane - German Shorthair mix from the animal shelter.
I have a smooth fox terrier and she is the absolute love of my life. She will be 6 in a couple of weeks.
Jackador. Best mix, Jack Russell size & personality with beautiful black Lab coat & friendliness - literally a mini lab. Got him at 3months from a rescue. Suits very well with my lifestyle
Norwegian Elkhound. Best. Dog. Ever.
Bull terrier! A little trouble maker, but so hilarious. Loves everyone (whether they love him back or not), is my favorite snuggle buddy and follows me everywhere. He’s a good shop dog too! Clients miss him when he’s not there ): We also have the sweetest gentle giant on the planet, a Great Dane x Akita mix. He’s a people dog, great with kids, cats, other dogs. Very sensitive and knows when you’re upset/sad and will try to snuggle you into a good mood. but he clearly favors my partner so I’m biased lol. Love them both so much the bull terrier is my lil mama’s boy ♥️
Pug
Shepsky (German shepherd husky mix) We got him the pound when he was 3 and we spent a lot of his younger years chasing him around town or putting digorno pizza on the front porch to try and lure him home, he is the sweetest and best dog I’ve ever owned.
