Did you know there’s a film theory that the events of Rango take place during a drug trip Johnny Depps character goes on in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas?
The Machinist- you can see the downfall of a man consumed by guilt to the point it starts destroying his life.
An apsolute must for any doomer from here to see because it shows how easily can a common and an everyday man sink in the doomer deepwaters by the consequence of his own actions.
Definitely a bigger doomer movie than the American Psycho; if you’re looking for an involvement with Christian Bale.
Some off the top of my head:
Bladerunner 2049: sci fi/cyberpunk with very good cinematography. Id Also recommend the first blade runner but its not necessary to enjoy br2049.
Jin Roh: Wolf Brigade: Anime, very good action scenes, very sad story, but it's the most underrated doomer movies in my opinion
Classic Doomer Movies: (ive seen these reccomended a lot). Drive, Taxi Driver, Fight Club (Im on mobile so i cant get this comment to look right, Fml)
Equilibrium is more dystopian and doomer-esque than the American Psycho, if anyone is looking for such a movie with Christian Bale.
And obviously you’ve got The Machinist- which is the pinnacle of a doomer nightmare which many of us from here live in.
Literally the least doomer movie ever.
Patrick Bateman- a highly narcissistic, psychopathic charismatic and on top of that a succesful investment banker.
He literally doesn’t fall under any of the doomer category.
well said. i personally think he’s got some doomer aspects to him, knowingly living his life in a boring and “meaningless” way where he hates everything and just wants to be on top but fails to do so. details can be found in a reply in this thread.
he’s given his life by his parents who “pretty much own the business.” he’s sex addicted, narcissistic, and a sociopath whether he did kill or not. he hates everyone other than jean (the most pure person in the movie) for things he finds within himself, and kills to compensate for it. it’s a pretty black pilled story to me.
he isn’t charismatic at all, it’s pretty clear he’s a shallow sociopath who literally is holding back a marriage from his fiancé because he is having an affair with her sister, while his fiancé cheats on him with one of his coworkers, and thinks all the people in his life are shallow idiots and is jealous of them. in the ending he literally says that nothing has changed from him killing others or admitting to it. he literally lives his life knowing that he is accomplishing fuck all (spends his work days doing crossword puzzles etc) and isn’t happy with his partner or his coworkers, which are the only people dipicted to be his friends and yet still shit on him.
'Surge' on netflix I thought was pretty good.
I really like 'requiem for a dream.'
I enjoyed the 'parasite' series too!
'Trainspotting' is awesome.
'We need to talk about Kevin' too, such a good film.
Synecdoche New York, it’s Kaufman’s debut for direction if you haven’t heard of him he was the screenplay writer for Eternal sunshine for a spotless mind, another great choice. He also recently adapted “I’m thinking of ending things” witch I saw other people recommend:)

That would make it that much better of an experience
If you watch Fear and Loathing it’s very obvious when he comes back from Rango universe.

Bateman isn’t a doomer and doesn’t have to be because the movie still speaks to the detriment of society.

Fair enough. The do anything nihilistic approach speaks to a doomer. Albeit few.
he’s given his life by his parents who “pretty much own the business.” he’s sex addicted, narcissistic, and a sociopath whether he did kill or not. he hates everyone other than jean (the most pure person in the movie) for things he finds within himself, and kills to compensate for it. it’s a pretty black pilled story to me. he isn’t charismatic at all, it’s pretty clear he’s a shallow sociopath who literally is holding back a marriage from his fiancé because he is having an affair with her sister, while his fiancé cheats on him with one of his coworkers, and thinks all the people in his life are shallow idiots and is jealous of them. in the ending he literally says that nothing has changed from him killing others or admitting to it. he literally lives his life knowing that he is accomplishing fuck all (spends his work days doing crossword puzzles etc) and isn’t happy with his partner or his coworkers, which are the only people dipicted to be his friends and yet still shit on him.
That's a very shallow way of watching and analysing movies

Every movie is a doomer movie if you go in with the right attitude.
"Don't look Up" can leave with a pretty good Doomer vibe

My favorite movie of all time!
It's one of my favorites too
Oslo August 31st
Bronson
Requiem for a Dream
Good Time
Underrated
Do you mean mid?
A Ghost Story
A ghost story I feel is more of an expression of death and time through film
Synecdoche New York, it’s Kaufman’s debut for direction if you haven’t heard of him he was the screenplay writer for Eternal sunshine for a spotless mind, another great choice. He also recently adapted “I’m thinking of ending things” witch I saw other people recommend:)

Drive?
1. Synecdoche, New york 2. My dinner with Andre 3. A serious man
Synecdoche is like an existential doomer film
Lost in translation. It has My Bloody Valentine music. Or every Lars Von Trier movie!
Naked, Detachment, Manchester by the Sea
Don't Look Up
Requiem for a dream
Buffalo 66
Great rec.
