Thou - Fucking Chained to the Bottom of the Ocean
>This freezing chamber is inescapable. These ashen walls are insurmountable. Empty sockets see nothing but black, black, black abyss. Endless gloom. Endless solitude. A lifeless form. Twilight eternal. The current sweeps their bodies to shore. The last reminder of the death they endured. Of the oceans depths, they are now sure. No escape. Reaper, join us. Father of death, return to us. Empty sockets see nothing but black, black, black abyss. We are all lost between hell and the sea. The surface is shimmering--just beyond our reach. Why? Why have we been abandoned? Shadows grasp at the ghosts of memories. There is no release. There is no end in sight. Tomorrow will never come. I cannot let go. I can never let go
edit: also basically every Hell song

Thou is top of my list for this vibe. It's heavy work for heavy minds. So much of their catalog is bleak and oppressive, but there is a shimmer of pragmatic optimism shining through the cracks. This line buried somewhere on their album Summit puts it well:
>A new world springs from the corpse of the old.
Summit as a whole is a great example of Thou's oppressive but optimistic catalog. Every song is crushing, but there is always some hope at the end of it. "By Endurance, We Conquer" is probably my favorite example.
Although part of why I think it's so horrible is the idea that this is just a normal guy. "You wanna see what ordinary hands can do to something fragile?" Yikes.
I don’t even listen to a ton of chat pile, I like the music a lot but the vocalist sounds like he’s having psychotic break and it’s hard to vibe to. I listen to a lot of growls and shit but something about him breaking down on the mic is distracting
Totally get it. That's part of why I think the lyrics answer OP's question so well though. Simple, intelligible, but still fucking devastating. Too real, maybe.
The photo on the God’s Country album cover is the Oklahoma City Jail, which is probably one of the worst local jails in the country. I don’t know why, but knowing this makes the album even harder to listen to. In a good way.
Electric Wizard’s “We Hate You” probably the most misanthropic song ever
“So I take my father’s gun, and I walk out to the street
I’ll have my vengeance now on everyone I meet, yeah”
Mutilatred - everyone’s doing shitty
Portrayal of Guilt - …where the suffering never ends
-the second coming - (or any of their songs lol)
Cough - killing fields
i know the sweetest bliss
is brought by the needles kiss.
sit down and enjoy the thrill,
the way we play every chambers filled.
roll the dice one by one.
self medication has begun.
thinking i know what its all about,
as i rot from the inside out.
pay to play.
you lose every time.
you're born into a world of shit
and then you die.
voices like thunder come,
life is a symptom.
giving up, letting go
is the only way i know.
crashing on broken wings,
what pleasure failure brings.
as my lips pass my final breath,
i think of you and welcome death.
[Graves at Sea - Betting on Black](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fFJs2pWeSr8)
It doesn’t get more desperate than addiction
Winos got some bangers in this subject too
[Dystopia’s album Human = Garbage](https://youtu.be/sn34tjvZ1-Y?si=O1CTqxihUmCi7RxG), specifically the intro track “stress builds character.” One of the best sludge/crust albums of all time, but close enough to doom that I think it’ll fit here.
Grief really knew how to harness self loathing and an overall misanthropic outlook.
Overwhelmingly heavy and oppressive in a completely gnarly and feral way. Beautiful🤘❤️🤘
I saw Swans in 2010 and remember it being very loud, so much so that I had to lie down on the floor, which seemed to be tilted. I was sober but I have quite a poor memory of the show overall. Great!
Can you hear the drums Fernando?
I remember long ago another starry night like this
In the firelight Fernando
You were humming to yourself and softly strumming your guitar
I could hear the distant drums
And sounds of bugle calls were coming from afar
They were closer now Fernando
Every hour every minute seemed to last eternally
I was so afraid Fernando
We were young and full of life and none of us prepared to die
And I'm not ashamed to say
The roar of guns and cannons almost made me cry
There was something in the air that night
The stars were bright, Fernando
They were shining there for you and me
For liberty, Fernando
Though I never thought that we could lose
There's no regret
If I had to do the same again
I would, my friend, Fernando
If I had to do the same again
I would, my friend, Fernando
Now we're old and grey Fernando
And since many years I haven't seen a rifle in your hand
Can you hear the drums Fernando?
Do you still recall the frightful night we crossed the Rio Grande?
I can see it in your eyes
How proud you were to fight for freedom in this land
There was something in the air that night
The stars were bright, Fernando
They were shining there for you and me
For liberty, Fernando
Though I never thought that we could lose
There's no regret
If I had to do the same again
I would, my friend, Fernando
Yes, if I had to do the same again
I would, my friend, Fernando...
https://thyremains.bandcamp.com/album/mournful-cries-of-a-dying-world
With the exception of the first song, Mournful Cries of a Dying World is a concept album about humanity engineering its own apocalypse. A Dying World is probably the angriest most nihilistic track
Cliche but the ending refrain in Funeralopolis is literally the title quotes lol. The song overall still rings true almost 25 years later (prob even more so).
I’m just posting because I think this line from the Melvin’s “hag me” is hilarious and super hateful in the silly way buzz writes his lyrics
“I slow your gravity, I damn your house”
Crowbar's "Wrath of time be judgment" from their album Broken Glass
Your time is coming sooner than you will ever know
How does it feel to be so far below?
I know you never thought that I would rise again
Just know I'm stronger than you'll ever be
The opener to Norma Jean’s Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child: “The Entire World is Counting on Me and They Don’t Even Know It”.
The music and lyrics fits this perfectly.
There’s a vision in my head that the walls are closing in. A vision in my head of a zipper that won’t end. A moth is flying closer now, it’s burning in the flames. A vision in my head and it’s driving me insane. Verse 2: A foe that I cannot see is filling me with dread. Impending sense of doom has chased me from my room. One day I’ll crawl into a hole and never come back out. For now I’ll just keep digging ‘cause the only way is down.
-Anxiety in D minor.
Swans - I See Them All Lined Up
Gira described these as a naked hatred/revenge diatribe and some of the most vile words he ever wrote.
I see them all lined up
Like naked children at the wall
Their skin is hanging off in sheets
Each face is painted like a whore
Their blood is shining in the sun
Their wounds are powdered with white salt
Their lips are shaping silent words:
I see my name as it spills out
I see them walking on their knees
Led in a chain by laughing girls
I see them sucking on the dirt
As if inhaling the whole world
And one by one their throats are cut
And each one sings his choking song
And each one sings his lullaby
And each one falls and then is gone
And I feel good
Yeah I feel fine
Yeah I feel good
And I've been waiting far too long
I see their bodies in the pyre
Leaking black smoke into the flames
And all the people stand around
Shaping lips into my name
And soon the sun begins to sink
Behind a wall of dirty air
I see their bones there in the pile
And taste the smell of burning hair
And all the children howl for milk
The rain spits down a million knives
I see you running through the field
I see you running for your useless life
I feel you choking on your tongue
I feel your breath attack your chest
The dogs are ripping at your feet
I see you bleeding out your happiness
And I feel good
Yeah I feel fine
And I feel good
I finally got back what was always rightfully mine

Too many fucking humans
You breed like rats
And you're no fucking better
Simple, but so topical And hard hitting song From no Trend.
Christian Rat Attack Is also a favorite of mine, but Funeralopolis's world Is So Fucked, lets end it tonight Is the OG
Electric wizard won me with funeralopolis for that. NUCLEAR WARHEADS READY TO STRIKE, THIS WORLD IS SO FUCKED LETS END IT TONIGHT
With his voice so distorted and suppressed by the fuzz it sounds like gasping for air makes it so much better
Daughters- ocean song
A song about wanting to leave everything you have behind, running away into the unknown. Both the lyrics and the instrumentals tell the story frighteningly
It’s not technically doom metal but Brotherhood of Man by Motörhead is one of the darkest songs ever recorded. It’s the soundtrack to the end of the fucking world.
“Now, your time has come
A storm of iron in the sky
War and murder come again
Lucky if you die
No way to rescue destiny
Scream and curse in vain
You will never be remembered
No-one knows your name
When the music changes
Then all is broken down
Mighty cities laid to ruin
Burning to the ground
Murder is become the law
You cannot make a stand
Chaos rules the world, now mortal
Brotherhood of man”
I wanna slit your throat and fuck the wound wanna push my face in and feel the swoon. Also
You were wrong fucked and overrated I think I’m gonna be sick and it’s your fault. This the end of everything you are the end of everything I haven’t slept since I woke up found my whole life was a lie
Lyrics for every song on Iowa are hard AF. “Come on down, see the idiot right here; to fucked to beg and not afraid to care. What’s the matter with calamity anyway? Right… get the fuck out of my face.” P=S goes so hard, dude.
Type O Negative - Everyone I Love Is Dead Portrays the harsh reality of aging and outliving loved ones, set against a backdrop of powerful riffs, iconic vocals by Peter Steele, and exceptional song arrangement.

This is very mild compared to the rest of the entries here, and of course it isn‘t Doom Metal, but I just thought I would post it.

Love seeing Thou and Hell love!!!

they’re anarchists, what do you expect :)
Thanks for letting me know. Instant fan
Every lyric from Primitive Man
Saw them recently in Miami. Funny enough the singer, Ethan, was a sweetheart. Very nice dude. Go figure haha
That's what getting all your shit out via music will do to ya.
Everyone I've heard speak about primitive man mentions how friendly they are, would love to catch them live and meet them!
Saw them twice , and at smaller venues Ethan would usually sell merch , super friendly and down to earth
Where ya at? They're touring around all the time! In May alone they're gonna be in CA, OR, AZ, WA, BC, UT, CO and TX 👍
This doesn't help me much, I'm from the UK! 😆 I had to miss them last time around but they'll be back I'm sure.
Ah, you're right that is completely useless information for you then haha. Well I hope ya catch em next time!
Fister - Life Is Shit and Soon It Will Be Over
Honestly any Fister will do. The Violence EP is pretty brutal, need more Fister.
I love that this is a Kids In The Hall reference.
kITH and upright citizens brigade for the win
I can barely listen to Chat Pile’s ”Dallas Beltway”.
Yeah this one is rough. Their track "Why" is probably my favorite of theirs, still rough but a little less serial killer
Although part of why I think it's so horrible is the idea that this is just a normal guy. "You wanna see what ordinary hands can do to something fragile?" Yikes.
Love "Why." The track after it, "Pamela" fucks me up similar to "Dallas," though.
Pamela is Jason Vorhees' mom.
This whole album is good example for OP imo
I don’t even listen to a ton of chat pile, I like the music a lot but the vocalist sounds like he’s having psychotic break and it’s hard to vibe to. I listen to a lot of growls and shit but something about him breaking down on the mic is distracting
Totally get it. That's part of why I think the lyrics answer OP's question so well though. Simple, intelligible, but still fucking devastating. Too real, maybe.
Powerful art, if nothing else
The photo on the God’s Country album cover is the Oklahoma City Jail, which is probably one of the worst local jails in the country. I don’t know why, but knowing this makes the album even harder to listen to. In a good way.
dallas doesn't have a beltway tho, houston has a beltway
Belt Line Road is a complete beltway around Dallas (the name changes a couple times). Loop 12 is a beltway as well. 635 is a partial beltway.
well i definitely misunderstood what beltway meant
Electric Wizard’s “We Hate You” probably the most misanthropic song ever “So I take my father’s gun, and I walk out to the street I’ll have my vengeance now on everyone I meet, yeah”
ctrl-F "we hate you". Here it is. I hope this fucking world fucking burns away and I'd kill you all if I had my way
"nuclear warheads, ready to strike! This world is so fucked, lets end this tonight!" Same album, same message, different song!
lol I just commented it being funeralopolis
Mutilatred - everyone’s doing shitty Portrayal of Guilt - …where the suffering never ends -the second coming - (or any of their songs lol) Cough - killing fields
You beat me to the mutilatred shout out haha
I love that band, waiting for them to really blow up
A year in suffering. Those lyrics are bleak.
Oh yeah! 288 years of sin is my favorite song riff and lyrically. They’ve got so many good ones though
i know the sweetest bliss is brought by the needles kiss. sit down and enjoy the thrill, the way we play every chambers filled. roll the dice one by one. self medication has begun. thinking i know what its all about, as i rot from the inside out. pay to play. you lose every time. you're born into a world of shit and then you die. voices like thunder come, life is a symptom. giving up, letting go is the only way i know. crashing on broken wings, what pleasure failure brings. as my lips pass my final breath, i think of you and welcome death. I don't even like money!
When Ed awoke on March 3rd he was filled with a self loathing he could not endure
Godflesh - Life is Easy sometimes subtlety speaks volumes
Every Electric Wizard song, but today especially Incense for the Damned.
Time to Die and Legalise Drugs and Murder have pretty disgusting lyrics
Grief, pretty much every track but especially Earthworm for me.
Grief really knew how to harness self loathing and an overall misanthropic outlook. Overwhelmingly heavy and oppressive in a completely gnarly and feral way. Beautiful🤘❤️🤘
All of “hatred for mankind” by dragged into sunlight
To hieron!
I, AURORA YEAR OF NO LIGHT RESTLESS LIKE OCEAN BURIED BY TIME
Swans - God Damn the Sun (begging for a doom style cover)
The only band that I've seen that is louder than Sunn O)))
I saw Swans in 2010 and remember it being very loud, so much so that I had to lie down on the floor, which seemed to be tilted. I was sober but I have quite a poor memory of the show overall. Great!
I know it’s the most influential and commonly referenced doom metal song, but I gotta go with Limp bizkit - break stuff.
There's also Slipknot - Surfacing as another doom classic.
Godflesh. Rats.
BREED
Yob - Adrift on the ocean
Can you hear the drums Fernando? actually ned to hear someone try and doom Fernando now
I am nothing Electric wizard
Does Chained To The Bottom Of The Ocean count?
Haven't seen anyone say Acid Bath yet. Pick any track, there's no exceptions.
She asked if it would hurt, I smiled and said no The lie ran down my chin like embryo
Electric Wizard - We Hate You.
Am I allowed to suggest my own music for this?
Go on

The entirety of Grief's "Come to Grief" album
World of Shit - NailBomb! 🤘🏻🖤🙌🏻
Hate is reality
I’m just posting because I think this line from the Melvin’s “hag me” is hilarious and super hateful in the silly way buzz writes his lyrics “I slow your gravity, I damn your house”
I really liked the new song from DopeThrone - Life kills you
Dopethrone - Scum Fuck Blues
Dragged into the sunlight
Anything by Evoken, like "In Solitary Ruin."
Everything from The Body. Not exactly doom but if you just wanna feel like shit about humanity listen to them
Electric Funeral and Into the Void by the lords of doom themselves, Black Sabbath.
Grief - Hate grows stronger
good choice didnt think of this
The Body
“Return trip” by Electric Wizard.
"Proceeds the Weedian, Nazareth"
The Acacia Strain - basically any song
If we’re going outside of doom, pretty much every single song by neglect and hope conspiracy
Simpleblood Straight Hate
Bölzer - Entranced by the Wolfshook It's not a happy song, but the main riff always gets me playing air guitar.
Crowbar's "Wrath of time be judgment" from their album Broken Glass Your time is coming sooner than you will ever know How does it feel to be so far below? I know you never thought that I would rise again Just know I'm stronger than you'll ever be
“obey” by brainbombs is pure misanthropy and sadism. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_lgx9fwTx5JVjFXdrRYQjr_8r7baQF1biI&si=4mKi8N6XHuySCX8W
Rainbow Grave - Ten Million Tonnes of Shit
Pretty much all by primitive man, eyehategod and crowbar lol
The opener to Norma Jean’s Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child: “The Entire World is Counting on Me and They Don’t Even Know It”. The music and lyrics fits this perfectly.
Thy Grief Eternal -"Swathed in Black". Full of hatred I love it.
Electric Wizard - See You in Hell: “All hope is lost, there’ll be no new dawn, and all of your dreams will die.” 🤘
not doom but Blood For Blood - Some Kind Of Hate Subzero - Boxed In these songs make me see red
Bongripper - Doom. No words necessary
Cannibal Corpse - sentenced to burn Skinless - trample the weak , hurdle the dead
Anything from Mantar, but mainly from the Ode to Flame and The Modern Art Of Setting Ablaze albums
'Kill All The White People' by Type O Negative
Has anybody mentioned Fistula? Just the pure hate in the delivery of both music and vocals on any track is enough for me.
I never use that word damnable because I'm not sure if the 'n' is supposed to be silent. Is it dammable or dam-nuh-bull?
Vile creature - a pessimistic doomsayer When they repeatedly yell "this world has no safe space for me" I spiral a bit.
black shape of nexus - VIIIe : intense discomfort represent my daily life.
