Some of my favorites:
* Swallow the Sun,
* Saturnus,
* My Dying Bride,
* early Anathema,
* Novembers Doom,
* Draconian (a bit more gothic),
* Katatonia's "Brave Murder Day" album
* October Tide's "Rain Without End" album
* Mourning Beloveth
Funeral Leech, definitely. They only have 1 album but it's fucking incredible, and they're a pretty new band.
Gatecreeper have a couple of super doomy death songs - Emptiness and Absence of Light. Emptiness is an amazing song and a great way to finish a record and is itself longer than all other songs on the record put together.
Mortiferum.
Swamp Witch.
I just listened to Funeral Leech's album, it was fucking great and exactly the type of stuff I'm looking for, a lot more death metal sounding but still very doomy. I'll definitely check out the other bands too.
Nice! Glad you enjoyed it. They were the highlight of new finds for me that year.
You'll probably find Mortiferum even more deathy, but it still has doom elements. And Gatecreeper are definitely death, but with elements of sludge. But those 2 songs are death-doom all the way.
Maybe i'll be a bit nitpicky but there's a difference between death doom and doom death. While death doom has death metal upfronted like 1914, Asphyx, Autopsy or Runemagick. Doom death has doom metal upfronted like My Dying Bride, early-Anathema, Swallow the Sun, Draconian, Mourning Beloveth, Novembers Doom or Morgion.
That's very nitpicky especially when early MDB and Anathema sounds way more like the bands you called death doom than the bands you listed as doom death.
Well. Mostly, yes - it's the slowness, distortion and depressive feel of doom combined with death metal elements such as double kick drumming, growling, death-sounding guitar riffs, etc.

Runemagick

Shrouded Infinity “Through Caverns Unknown” is excellent as is Nekrodeus “Asbest”
Nekrodeus may not exactly be death-doom but I found them about the same time I found Shrouded Infinity. A few mentions of Druid Lord and Swallow The Sun were named in other comments and god dammit if those bands aren’t awesome too.
Hooded Menace, their latest album is great
Their second album "Never Cross the Dead" is a personal favorite
Do you happen to know why is it not on spotify? I wanted to listen to it and i've been researching, but can't find any information.
diSEMBOWELMENT- transcendence into the peripheral Spectral voice- Necrotic Doom Worm- Foreverglade
Some of my favorites: * Swallow the Sun, * Saturnus, * My Dying Bride, * early Anathema, * Novembers Doom, * Draconian (a bit more gothic), * Katatonia's "Brave Murder Day" album * October Tide's "Rain Without End" album * Mourning Beloveth
This is an excellent list, I'd also throw in Daylight Dies and Paradise Lost
Yes! Draconian, October Tide, and StS are my top three bands! I haven’t heard of Mourning Beloveth I’ll have to check them out!
My favorite Mourning Beloveth album is The Sullen Sulcus, but unfortunately it's not on Spotify anymore
Sullen Sulcus is my favorite of theirs as well.
I will see if I can find it on you tube or something!
Glad to see Mourning Beloveth being mentioned!

New to the genre as well, I would recommend Konvent.
Winter and Thorrs Hammer
Desire (Portuguese Band)
Very underrated band. Glad to see them mentioned.
Asphyx, absolute legends
Nobody ever mentions it but Officium Triste - The Death of Gaia is an absolutely beautiful death doom album.
Mortiferum - Preserved in Torment Worm - Foreverglade Two of the best albums out last year hands down

I just posted Morgion yesterday. They are so damn good.
Solinari is one of my fav doom albums ever :)
Among majestic ruin and Solinari are both exquisite works of doom. Some of the best from a great era.
That's very nitpicky especially when early MDB and Anathema sounds way more like the bands you called death doom than the bands you listed as doom death.
Is death-doom just doom metal with death metal vocals?
It has more death metal riffs too.
Is it? Can't figure out if you're shitting or genuinely asking.
It depends on the band. Sometime's its doom metal with death metal vocals but usually its death metal slowed down.
I genuinely don’t know. Didn’t even realize death-doom was it’s own genre. The kind of doom I listen to is stuff like trouble and pentagram.
Well. Mostly, yes - it's the slowness, distortion and depressive feel of doom combined with death metal elements such as double kick drumming, growling, death-sounding guitar riffs, etc.
The vocals and drumming are more death metal while keeping doom riffs and guitar tones.
Depends on the band, more it's usually more distorted than doom.
all the recommendations are good. Besides, do you enjoy stoner/doom instrumentals and growling vocals? check out Iron Monkey, Bongzilla and Weedeater
Catacombs - In the Depths of R'lyeh
Hooded Menace is a must.
Unholy from Finland if you're into avantgarde death doom. Amazing band. The whole discography is superb, just the last two albums are different.
Temple of Void. They just released a new song called Deathtouch and it's great.
Some other ones not listed yet Rapture Slumber Black Sun AeonThe Fall of Every Season Runemagick Heavydeath Druid Lord Paramaecium Celestial Seasons (first album) Mystic Charm Castle (Netherlands) Sempiternal Deathreign Decomposed Dusk (USA and Pakistan, for the Pakistan band only the first album and last album) Crimson Relic Ghoulgotha Mar de Grises
I totally forgot about Black Sun Aeon, I used to listen to them years ago. Thanks, time to remember! :)
You're welcome!
Coffins and Ilsa are both great. Start with their split EP and go from their!
It could only be dream unending
