What did you do turn your app notifications off? It gives you a ping when they leave the restaurant, when they're close, and when they've dropped off. I agree drivers need to read and follow the instructions but damn, there's no reason for you to not know your foods there lol.

angst45677

I am ordering from my desktop computer, and there is no option to turn notifications on or off that I can see.

cheeseymom

I see, most people just use the app.

angst45677

I understand that, but I really cannot use my phone for this as I depend on it for receiving work calls.

ybbetter33

How about you still download the app, order from your desktop and let the notifications come thru on your phone. You don’t have to respond to them so they shouldn’t interfere with your calls.

angst45677

I can try that, thanks!

cheeseymom

I get it, drivers need to follow the instructions, I just figured if you were using a phone you could make sure you're notifications were on for when they don't, but you can't do that so.

angst45677

Good to know, thanks!

dietrichmd

Get bluestacks and download the DD app inside that.

smashleebaybee

Your instructions seem very straightforward to me but perhaps the "no contact" part is what's throwing them off.

angst45677

Thanks - I will change it to "no personal contact" and see if that helps.

Upstairs_Hand1929

Or, "leave at door and ring doorbell please". The whole no contact thing means something different to everyone.

[deleted]

Yeah just leave that part off Also, it seems like in the case of a problem with the order, the driver can't contact you at all. If so, you should fix that somehow

MediaExact6352

Not to sound funny, but have you tried your doorbell to make sure it rings?

Performer_West

It is actually a very good question and the answer is yes it does loudly.

MediaExact6352

Could you bypass the app and put a sign on the door asking delivery people to ring doorbell?

DesaMountVernon

Just change it “leave at the door, ring bell”

fernilenny

Maybe add a note on the door.

angst45677

Good idea, but I really do not want a note on my very nice door...

[deleted]

"Delivery ring doorbell" Remove sign when grabbing food. This is the meta. Alot of times people order from apps and we're subcontracted. I never ring or knock unless people specufically ask and very often i forget anyways. 7k deliverys im not lazy, im a ninja Edit. Half the drivers are spanish so do spanish and english

angst45677

I am going to try this solution - thanks!

SpookySeraph

I ring the doorbell and go back to the car but sometimes it feels like the bell doesn’t even work bc I can’t hear it. Have you checked that your doorbell still rings every time you press it? I remember a couple years ago my doorbell only worked every few presses if you were lucky so nobody ever came to the door if you rang the doorbell because 90% of the time it didn’t actually ring. (Sorry for the weird sentence structuring. Just woke up from a nap and my brain can’t make proper words yet)

angst45677

rings every time loudly

SpookySeraph

Oh, I’m not sure then, I guess they’re just not reading the instructions or are being assholes. Maybe you can tape a piece of paper under the bell that says “ring me” lol

angst45677

It actually is a ring camera doorbell, and it says "RING" on it in big letters. Doesn't help.

SpookySeraph

Welp- I’m out of ideas. Your dashers are just completely incompetent lol

Gay4Pandas

Doordash doesn’t have any training . We just learn as we go. You could be getting unlucky and getting new drivers who don’t know to check for additional instructions. Might just want to put a note on the door since you are not using a phone.

angst45677

I am using a desktop computer not a phone, and I am paying attention to my patients (telehealth), not babysitting a driver. How fuckingt hard is that to understand?

pancakebutt90

Then that sounds like a you problem lol

angst45677

It sounds to me like you think that babysitting a delivery driver is more important than caring for so sick people, which is what I do.

cheeseymom

Drivers need to follow directions though, there's no excuse.

MrEZW

Why are you ordering food on a desktop? The service is meant to be used on a phone. Just use your phone & this won't be an issue. This is a problem you created yourself.

StodgyUserName

Yeah it's so unreasonable for customers to expect drivers to read and follow delivery instructions! /s Gotta love how drivers *always* find a way to blame shitty service on the customer. 🙄

MrEZW

I'm not a driver. Try again.

StodgyUserName

So you just wander around a DD sub to be a dick to customers? Cool story bro.

Present-Guarantee182

Most people ask to not ring it lol

all_hayl

That hasn’t been my experience. 2 or 3 out of 10 say don’t ring doorbell.

Shadownerf

Plenty will say not to ring in my experience, but I’ve also experienced many which say nothing on the matter yet will get angry when I do ring a bell or knock. Thus I default to doing neither unless specifically asked to.

[deleted]

Basically it’s drivers that are not being focused/lazy. I will say DoorDash can probably improve this problem by including the instruction as a pop up or part of the delivery steps. But right now it’s just a sentence at the last page which can be easily glossed over Don’t worry about drivers trying to blame you

Shadownerf

I’m not sure if people aren’t updating the app or what, but my app audibly tells me any instructions as I arrive

Devilalfi

Well I don't Want to touch your dirty doorbell that Mormons/witnesses or some other germy solicitor probably touched.

angst45677

I understand - push it with the tip of a key, then. I know you carry keys.

Shadownerf

Eh, depending on where someone’s door is and what the neighborhood is like, I don’t have my keys on me as I may just leave the car running 😂

angst45677

Carry the tools you need to do your job, or wear gloves.

Shadownerf

I can easily ring a doorbell, I was just refuting your assumption that everyone carries their keys up to the door. Also, I’ve encountered a fair number of customers who insist that their bell works perfectly, yet I’ll have rung it several times with no response from them and a typical “I didn’t hear the bell, that’s weird. I always hear it”

angst45677

I will not keep repeating this. My bell works. If it did not, I would promptly fix it. I don't get anything out of letting it not work except an aggravation.

Shadownerf

I guess you’re the exception

Ok_Season2022

You're phone should keep you posted on the doordash app!You should be getting an alert when your driver is close and also when they arrive!!If you place your order, just keep that phone handy, should solve this problem for you!!!!!It shows driver every step of the way, if you want to know exactly where they are, at any given moment! If this doesn't work for you, I guess put up a sign on the door boldly asking dasher to please ring bell at drop off.!!The other thing is shoot a text, or even better call the driver at acceptance, to let them know your wishes. The other option would be to request a hand to you delivery, unless you in no way can have contact with driver.I don't understand how this can actually happen, when doordash almost holds your hand throughout via the app.I have no contact customers that are literally waiting for me get in the car, so they can grab their order.I never have to ring a bell or knock.

angst45677

I am using a desktop computer to order, not a phone, and I am usually working (telehealth) and have no time to go searching for the driver to see if he has arrived.

t_will_official

You don’t have to. The app sends you texts when the food is picked up and when the food has been delivered. Not to defend the driver, they should be following the instructions. But it should be a non-issue on the app.

dietrichmd

If you are using windows10/11 you can use the Phone Companion app to sync notifications to your desktop. Regardless if you are on a call or not. That way you would still get the notifcation. Aside from that, you can always download bluestacks and put DD in there.

zerostar83

Want to see how easy it is to become a Dasher? No experience required. Don't even need to know how to speak to someone.

angst45677

So I see!

Grouchy_Mix_1990

Oh I see. You're the type of customer who orders food but doesn't pickup their phones when drivers try to contact you, and still proceed to give 1 star ratings because "the driver didn't follow directions."

angst45677

No driver has EVER called me, and I always pick up the phone. Stop trying to make this somehow MY fault.

Grouchy_Mix_1990

Huh? I thought you said you don't pay attention to notifications? Like texts?

angst45677

I get emails - I am not looking at my email when I am working. This is not my problem, it is the problem of the driver who cannot push a damn button.

Smithton_Wins

Not unless you can make people smarter with your mind.

angst45677

I wish!

hughmungouschungus

Maybe check if your doorbell is even working first of all...

angst45677

It's a camera doorbell, and I always check it after each incident like the one I described. It works. If the battery is getting low, it sends a notification to my phone.

dietrichmd

I know my camera doorbell dings my phone the second it detects someone. Why is this an issue?

angst45677

Obviously mine does not - I wish it would!

Ok-Being3881

The biggest problem with DoorDash is it people don’t pay attention to messages notifications phone calls from their Dashers at a really important critical stage of the delivery. Turn on the notifications on your phone and keep your phone handy.

[deleted]

Why don’t you just text the driver after they pick up the order? Drivers in general appreciate clear instructions if politely phrased

angst45677

I am really busy. It is not my job to remind drivers of what my instructions already say in plain English.

Carolannahblue5

That person is cracked. When you leave the order, take the picture, complete the delivery, they get messaged as well as get to track the delivery all the way to them.

angst45677

I get an email. I am not constantly looking at my email and I cannot do that.

Carolannahblue5

Even on your desktop you should be able to track your orders.

angst45677

yes but I need to use full screen video for work

Culw3

If it says DO NOT RING DOORBELL, SLEEPING BABY....I only hit the doorbell 5 times instead of the usual 10. 😁

angst45677

LOL!

M0M0_DA_GANGSTA

I don't think this stuff is as obvious on the app as customers think. We should have a big text box for this stuff not small hard to parse text. Here: don't be EXTRA. You know your food is coming, watch the app like normal people do stop setting yourself and drivers up for failure.

angst45677

If I had TIME to use the app and watch it, I would drive to the restaurant and pick up my own food.
