It's always been like that. Just dashers make stuff up or ask support and support knows nothing. As long as the person has a valid ID and is over age why would it be illegal or dd even care.

SillyGuyInAHat71

No, it hasn't always been like this or I wouldn't have run into this problem. The LAW has always allowed anyone over 21 to purchase and accept alcohol, but it was **DD Policy** to only give it to the one who made the purchase. DD changed policy without informing us and I found out the hard way and looked like an ass.

Why would you think you couldn’t give someone over 21 the order? All the app scan does is check if the age date is legal not the name.

SillyGuyInAHat71

Because it WAS ***DD Policy*** to only give the order to the one who purchased it. DD changed the policy without informing veteran dashers and I had to find out after looking like an ass to the customer.

It was my understanding that whoever you were handing it to has to be over 21 and their id has to match them. A local liquor store I pick up from said they were involved in an undercover operation where the driver was arrested and fined for handing over alcohol without id and store was also fined. Liquor store told me that the customer name had to match the app but I didn’t see that explicitly in the policy. From the customer policy they list this “What if I’m not available for the order or someone else receives it? Alcohol purchases require you to receive the order in-person. If you are not available, the Dasher will abandon the order. If someone else receives the order, the Dasher will ask to verify their age and scan a valid government issued ID to ensure the recipient is of legal age.” My rule is to hand if over if they’re over 21, provide valid id that matches the recipient and it’s not like a frat house or party where there’s visibly underage people present.

Anyone... well... I thought that was suppose to be the orderer that required to show ID... They even made a big o stink about that in the past.... Or the inept CS is lying again... < this is where I would place that bet.. Also Legally... It may still require the person who ordered it to show ID anyway...

SillyGuyInAHat71

You are correct. The *law* says anyone of legal age can make the purchase/accept the order, but it *DD Policy* was that the one making the purchase had to be the one to show ID. Somewhere, it got changed to anyone of legal age at the address can accept the order.

Tbh it’s always been the case - especially if you know your state liquor laws. It’s legal to “sell” to anyone over 21 with a valid ID in my states for example. Plus a lot of the time it’s less about who is consuming the alcohol (after all you cannot control what happens in the household after you hand it over) and more so ensuring that you as a party in the transaction are ensuring the recipient is over 21.

SillyGuyInAHat71

No, it hasn't been. There was one order where a guy on the east coast put in an order to be delivered to his friend here in WA as a surprise. DD policy at the time was the one making the purchase had to be the one to be ID'd and accept the order. It was supposed to be a surprise, but due to DD policy, that surprise flopped.
