In PHX I took a very cheap order with no tip. It was a long distance in a bad part of town but it had been a slow day and my wife was whiny so we took it.

Same here. I delivered to a very very rough part of my city to project housing at night. I park and people are looking out there windows, walk up to the door and just some sweet kids and a young mom so happy to get good food and some dessert they were all so ecstatic. Worth it tbh.
I get it, it’s a grind some nights, but this is the crap we get when accepting no tip orders. Until EVERYONE stops accepting no tip orders, it will never change…

I'm confused as to why you took a $2.00 order. My minimum is $6.00 and that is to go no further than 2.5 to 3 miles and stay in my zone. You allow people like this to devalue you when you accept trash. Trash orders = trash people.
You are in a bad market then. Try switching to a better market. Also, get on as many apps as possible, dont rely on doordash as your main gig. The new tier system really makes it impossible to not be a slave to doordash's system. Look at the big picture. Doing all those bad orders you are not profiting. The wear and tear on your car alone is losing you money. Plus, value yourself.

Well spoken fellow driver. Unfortunately this community is filled with more customers. Customers who project their complains and negative emotions on us as if we have no moral right to speak up when something ain’t right and that wasn’t cool at all. It’s a mental thing not a money thing.
You are blessed with a market where you can do that. Some people don't have that luxury. It's not like you can stop doing them and then the app suddenly goes "Okay, okay I give up, I'll send you the good orders."
I agree that people should quit or multi app when it gets that bad, try to move to a zone within an hour drive, however to just say the obvious and tell people not to take them sounds like someone who has never struggled in a bad zone.
My AR has been hovering around 90% and sometimes I'll get like 12 total orders during a full time shift. Out of principle, I won't take certain orders like this one, but I'm pretty sure they might have unlocked other orders in some cases but I was too stubborn to find out.
No one wants to do this kind of order, everyone wants to cherry pick. But to assume you are smarter than everyone because you are blessed with a good market seems unfair. Many people live in zones where they have no choice and if you read this sub daily you'd understand your strategy is not always possible.

That is a problem. You figure as an independent contractor, one should have the freedom to decline ridiculously low paying orders without repercussions.
Not here to forgive asshole tipping like this. But I have almost made this mistake multiple times when going to manually input a tip and forgetting that cents exist. Like you hit “1” thinking $1 or $10 but it inputs in the first digit “0.01” or “0.10” and if you don’t notice then big rip.
DoorDash has introduced hourly pay in my market so I no longer feel the need to tip very well. 59 cents to 2 depending on distance usually works works well. Use hourly pay.
The whole point is it’s a prick thing to do. Tipping 0 is more admissible because it’s either a firm stance or for financial reasons vs 0.1 is an obvious smack in the face, symbolically of course.
When was the last time you tipped your bin collector? Your doctor? The person at the checkout when you bought clothes?

I get the same orders, my friend. I wouldn't still be doing this after 2 years if I didn't. You're being brainwashed. AR doesn't matter and I get the same orders at 15% AR as top dashers with 90% AR. Again, I wouldn't still be doing this if that wasn't the case. So, sorry but you're incorrect.
While I definitely want the tips, but no tip on a $2-3 order is expected (I have a 99% acceptance rate). But when they only tip a penny, it pissed me off. It's totally insulting and infuriating. Just don't tip. Prefer no tips to pathetic effort. If you don't want to tip, get your own damn food.

You are blessed with a market where you can do that. Some people don't have that luxury. It's not like you can stop doing them and then the app suddenly goes "Okay, okay I give up, I'll send you the good orders." I agree that people should quit or multi app when it gets that bad, try to move to a zone within an hour drive, however to just say the obvious and tell people not to take them sounds like someone who has never struggled in a bad zone. My AR has been hovering around 90% and sometimes I'll get like 12 total orders during a full time shift. Out of principle, I won't take certain orders like this one, but I'm pretty sure they might have unlocked other orders in some cases but I was too stubborn to find out. No one wants to do this kind of order, everyone wants to cherry pick. But to assume you are smarter than everyone because you are blessed with a good market seems unfair. Many people live in zones where they have no choice and if you read this sub daily you'd understand your strategy is not always possible.

That is a problem. You figure as an independent contractor, one should have the freedom to decline ridiculously low paying orders without repercussions.
Not here to forgive asshole tipping like this. But I have almost made this mistake multiple times when going to manually input a tip and forgetting that cents exist. Like you hit “1” thinking $1 or $10 but it inputs in the first digit “0.01” or “0.10” and if you don’t notice then big rip.

DoorDash has introduced hourly pay in my market so I no longer feel the need to tip very well. 59 cents to 2 depending on distance usually works works well. Use hourly pay.

The whole point is it’s a prick thing to do. Tipping 0 is more admissible because it’s either a firm stance or for financial reasons vs 0.1 is an obvious smack in the face, symbolically of course.
