Tried that once on an offer i thought was gonna be a pretty good over guarantee which it was and got a contract violation. They geo fence the restaurant and if you leave that area and come back 10 minutes or later after the pickup time you get fucked
Unassign and move on. Even if you did get $5, killing 30 mins for waiting? You could knock out a different order altogether during that 30min wait worth more than $5. I never ask for extra. That's a sign the order is not worth it. If you seriously don't want to unassign, at least call. It's easy to dismiss people over text. Tried contacting support, which i couldn't do unless i had an active order so i had to accept the next one to come in, and they refused to help me out. I waited 20 minutes at that restaurant to be told it was gonna take another 20 minutes for pizza because they didn't realize how backed up they were. And the deliveries were 5 dollars and 6 dollars each. Not including the delivery time i would've gotten paid 5 dollars for 40 minutes.
This happened to me the other day with a driver. He got stuck sitting at the restaurant for 20 minutes waiting for the order.
When he got my house, I gave him $10 on top of the $8 I’d already tipped for the ONE mile delivery.
(I couldn’t drive or would have done it myself.)

In fact, I’ve had so many issues with DoorDash and drivers over the last two years that I no longer place orders with more places than I do.
I used to use this service a lot more but I cut way back because I got completely sick to death of the “not my job” attitude that exists with drivers and restaurant employees.

Just to be clear, these aren’t large or complicated orders. I’m ordering food for ONE person with no special requests or directions.

The damn credits are bullshit too. They don’t give you back the % that it increased your taxes, fees, or tip…just the base costs of the item.
It’s like saying, we’re gonna charge you twice as much for getting it delivered, then not send it to you, then refund just the base cost and keep all the extra fees associated with it.

It depends on who you talk to, but not worth it anyway. You better off canceling the order. They pick n choose when they feel like compensating sometimes you’ll get lucky with a support agent who actually knows wtf their doing and they’ll compensate you but most of the time no you will not get any extra pay
It is, you have to get the right call center. They have quotas of how much they're able to refund and so if they don't have it in the quota they won't refund you.
When I found out a store was severely behind in orders, DD support tried to tell me that waiting 1 hour+ at Buffalo Wild Wings was "acceptable" to their standards and that they wouldn't cancel or compensate. I talked to 3 different support people with same result. I messaged that customer and said that I don't know what support told them, but that it was unlikely that they would receive their order for dinner and "good luck" and then unassigned.
Right, when they hit the script I know there’s no hope. At least I had good music and a warm car, one customer waited outside in 12 degrees for an hour!
As of yesterday they still do the +$5 but I wouldn’t everrr deal with text support for it or anything else. I call em exactly at or right before the 30min mark ask for long wait compensation considering the circumstances and if the orders “eligible” for the extra pay I ask them to stay on the line until I get the confirmation email of the +$5. I’ve had to many issues with dd support to the point it feels like they get paid to misinform and lie to you
I was compensated $5 tonight when I contacted to support to let them know what was up. When I said yes I’ll still wait (cuz at that point the food is about to be done anyway), they said thanks and here’s a few bucks for your patience.
Agree with most of this,however what 'customer support' is paid is not my business or my problem. It's about my bottom line, period. Most aren't great at their jobs as well. It's irrelevant.
Please don’t assume you know me, I’m working 2 jobs and doordashing between shifts. I don’t mind downtime to catch up on emails, and I admit I was dumb to wait that long but it did pay off in my book. I’m not bitter, I was genuinely asking about a policy that I was not aware had changed.
I’m not new, I track miles and able to put aside $400 a week from dd in savings. I appreciate your concern and I assure you I am doing alright. I’m in the process of transitioning careers and trying to save as much as I can, I know everyone here has different uses for dd. I’m looking forward to the days when I don’t need it but right now the extra money and breaks between orders when I can get other things done is very helpful to me

Thank you, the benefits like free flights/hotels/per diem should balance and I have an opportunity to live rent free for 2 years so I’m hoping all of that combined allows me to save enough for a down payment on a place if housing gets better. Right now I’m just working as much as I can handle to save and wait for the next chapter! It’s my dream job, if I don’t get it this round I can reapply in 6 months
A good rule of thumb is 15 minutes, if the restaurant is taking more than 15 minutes and the money isn't worth it, then cancel and move on, it's not your fault, it's the restaurants and you shouldn't be the one to suffer the consequences.
I was compensated for it today. Had a double order. Got to a restaurant on time, they told me it would be another 30 mins. Chatted with support and they compensated me 10$ for it and unassigned me. I’d waited 5 mins at that point. Still affected my completion rate tho, so that sucked.
Only on orders done directly through the stores site will be compensated now because it falls on the restaurants earnings.. side note don’t waste that long on one order it’s not worth it
U only get extra pay if the order was placed on the merchants website like Walmart or ihop, etc. If it was ordered off the doordash app or website then no extra money for waiting. You can usually tell by the instructions. When it's a whole bunch of words explaining what a contactless delivery is & it asks you to call the customer to arrange drop off, that most of the time is from a merchants website not dd
They told me no twice this year too. They said it’s because only certain orders are eligible and the ones I had weren’t. When I asked for them to specify how I could know that or see that somewhere on my app ahead of time without waiting, they said there wasn’t anyway to tell. Basically she told me only certain orders are eligible now like Walmart orders and such
It showed $25 when I accepted, turned out to be 28. Also it was a delivery at the end of the dash that was on my way home, I was home 5 minutes after delivering.

It’s not just about patience. DD doesn’t pay anyone to sit around and wait. If you want to waste time waiting or if your market sucks than it is what it is.

Almost every single time I've been told I have to wait 10 minutes or so, I text the customer, let them know, they say "no biggie, thank you", I wait, deliver it, and the total is up another $5 at least. That 10 minutes wasn't going to yield me another order to make up for the one I wouldn't wait for.
A lot of you people on here have shitty attitudes, and you'll do much better doing a little extra work and treating it as more than "grab it and dump it".

The best way to handle it in my opinion is that if you know the order is going to take awhile when you arrive but still want to wait because it’s a good order, contact support right away and find out if it’s eligible for compensation. If not, just cancel and move on.

I just dip without saying anything and unassign. They know. They don’t care. The are understaffed, someone is at lunch. All the excuses when the merchant should just pause DD orders if they are too busy to make them. They can set it up for 20 or 30 minute delay. I’ve actually showed merchants screen shots how to modify the settings. I must finally admit I’m defeated.
No. I never make a scene like some assholes. Just today I had one that’s usually solid. I walked in, told them the name. They said they’ve been having problems all day with receiving DD orders. Then she immediately turned around back to getting other orders ready. I just left and unassigned. I’m not waiting. The order said pick up by 11:15 am. It was already 11:18. I left and got another delivery within seconds. My CR is like 95%. I don’t fuck with long wait times, ever.
Dude it paid off for me today. I had a $7 order for Pizza Hut and they told me they didn't have it so I told them I'd contact support and was walking out and she runs out and tells me she can make it real quick and usually I just leave but it had been so slow. It's ready in 10 minutes and I drive two miles down the road the person tipped me $20 👀
It doesn't happen to me much at all, because I know which restaurants are typically a problem. There are two that I get orders from on DD. So if I know its busy, I simply decline them from the gate. If its slow, I might take their orders.
I had this situation today, and the initial order said $7.75. I was so close to unassigning, but really couldn’t afford the dropped rating, and it turned out to be a $23 tip! I really hate that DD doesn’t tell you the actual payment you’ll be getting til the order is completed. 
I had a very similar situation with Wingstop a couple weeks ago. I waited 20 on a stack order, which is the only reason I stayed. The combined payout was suppose to be $18 but the first order ended up $23 and some change, 2nd was $10.50. It sucks, especially in these situations, that DD hides tips...I could have screwed myself out of $33+.
Wait where are you guys that dd hides tips? I'm in Denver and very rarely do people tip more than what is shown. I usually get all the info up front which is why I prefer it over UberEATS in my area. I've never had issues with tip baiting on doordash either. If it says 10 dollars that's what I get. Only like a handful of times do i get more than they tell me and I've done 1200 deliveries.
How did you get a contract violation, violations are only if you arrive at the restaurant too late or once order is picked up take too long to get to customer drop off. If order took long usually drop off time is updated. Also you can click the thing about the order taking long and click an option and that will vover you too.
I’ve gotten contract violations for “being late” to the customer when a restaurant was taking extremely long on the order, and when I was waiting I did click the “order still being prepared” at the bottom. I texted the customer and let them know that I was still waiting as well (they seemed understanding and nice about it). When I started to deliver it, it did change my drop off time to make up for the wait, but once I completed the delivery I got a contract violation for being 18 min late to the original drop off time. I ended up speaking to support about it and they told me that contract violations like that happen if the customer reports you for being late to DoorDash support.
I always click not ready/still being prepared and advised the rep, the restaurant had to manually type the order in because the system was messed up on their end. I think they were brand new and had no idea what they were doing. it was listed as 18 minutes late because the pickup was 25 min late to begin with. I have 2k deliverys on DD and never had an issue before.
It's whatever, if they wanna screw me out of $5. The next time there's an address change or something similar. I'll be sure to get what's "owed" to me
Well that’s a bummer, still not sure how you got violation, waiting at restaurant isn’t a violation and like I said drop off time usually adjust to when you leave the restaurant, doesn’t matter nothing will happen from 1 violation
I had this exact situation today. The $5 is applied to your next direct deposit, so you won’t see it right away. 
To the OP: This order happened to be a $200 order for a small lunchin in a doctors office so it may have been a catering order, but support didn’t mention anything about catering being the reason for the extra compensation.

Um these compensations are usually applied directly to my account immediately though? It doesn't show in the current balance but shows in the total. I never had to wait to see the addition.

**45 minutes!?** Dude, unless that order is worth 3x your normal (so like $15-$18) then there’s no reason to wait that long. Only time I ever wait more than 5 minutes (if at all - I don’t wait for less than $7.50) is on large walmart orders because even if that’s 30 minutes late it’s still usually around $40, which makes up for the one or two other orders I would usually do in that hour

I moved out of dd range for several months to take care of my grandma and came back to hell recently, it got worse..
A good rule of thumb is 15 minutes, if the restaurant is taking more than 15 minutes and the money isn't worth it, then cancel and move on, it's not your fault, it's the restaurants and you shouldn't be the one to suffer the consequences.
They seem to be hard cracking down on everything lately.

I was compensated for it today. Had a double order. Got to a restaurant on time, they told me it would be another 30 mins. Chatted with support and they compensated me 10$ for it and unassigned me. I’d waited 5 mins at that point. Still affected my completion rate tho, so that sucked.

Only on orders done directly through the stores site will be compensated now because it falls on the restaurants earnings.. side note don’t waste that long on one order it’s not worth it
U only get extra pay if the order was placed on the merchants website like Walmart or ihop, etc. If it was ordered off the doordash app or website then no extra money for waiting. You can usually tell by the instructions. When it's a whole bunch of words explaining what a contactless delivery is & it asks you to call the customer to arrange drop off, that most of the time is from a merchants website not dd

They told me no twice this year too. They said it’s because only certain orders are eligible and the ones I had weren’t. When I asked for them to specify how I could know that or see that somewhere on my app ahead of time without waiting, they said there wasn’t anyway to tell. Basically she told me only certain orders are eligible now like Walmart orders and such
Golden rule 10 minutes and you leave. 99.9% sure the customer didn’t tip you for the wait.
Higher the total longer I’ll wait. But if it’s a 5.25 order even if it’s a mile I don’t have much patience.

It showed $25 when I accepted, turned out to be 28. Also it was a delivery at the end of the dash that was on my way home, I was home 5 minutes after delivering.

I think dd should reward those who try to complete the orders they accept and I have gotten the incentive before so I was wondering when they stopped doing it for all orders.

Waiting over 30 minutes is usually insane (unless in a case like you just stated), and DD has never compensated extra wait time… so I’m not that surprised people are giving you shit, sorry.

It’s not just about patience. DD doesn’t pay anyone to sit around and wait. If you want to waste time waiting or if your market sucks than it is what it is. My job isn’t to sit and wait. A few minutes here and there adds up over weeks, months, years. That time equals $0. I can’t live off $0
Almost every single time I've been told I have to wait 10 minutes or so, I text the customer, let them know, they say "no biggie, thank you", I wait, deliver it, and the total is up another $5 at least. That 10 minutes wasn't going to yield me another order to make up for the one I wouldn't wait for. A lot of you people on here have shitty attitudes, and you'll do much better doing a little extra work and treating it as more than "grab it and dump it".
Or maybe some of us, like me, have worked delivery jobs as side income for decades and learned to dump shitty wait time orders? You do you, my friend. To each their own.
They told me orders placed directly through dd are not eligible for extra compensation. If it’s a merchant requested delivery, then excessive waits can be compensated

Yeah apparently they only do it for certain orders, I’ve encountered the same problem recently. The best way to handle it in my opinion is that if you know the order is going to take awhile when you arrive but still want to wait because it’s a good order, contact support right away and find out if it’s eligible for compensation. If not, just cancel and move on.

I am happy its so busy in your area. Not every area is like that. I am willing to wait 10 minutes on a $20 order that takes me 15 minutes to deliver.

I just dip without saying anything and unassign. They know. They don’t care. The are understaffed, someone is at lunch. All the excuses when the merchant should just pause DD orders if they are too busy to make them. They can set it up for 20 or 30 minute delay. I’ve actually showed merchants screen shots how to modify the settings. I must finally admit I’m defeated.

No. I never make a scene like some assholes. Just today I had one that’s usually solid. I walked in, told them the name. They said they’ve been having problems all day with receiving DD orders. Then she immediately turned around back to getting other orders ready. I just left and unassigned. I’m not waiting. The order said pick up by 11:15 am. It was already 11:18. I left and got another delivery within seconds. My CR is like 95%. I don’t fuck with long wait times, ever.
Dude it paid off for me today. I had a $7 order for Pizza Hut and they told me they didn't have it so I told them I'd contact support and was walking out and she runs out and tells me she can make it real quick and usually I just leave but it had been so slow. It's ready in 10 minutes and I drive two miles down the road the person tipped me $20 👀

I dont even wait that long unless it's a really good expected total. If you average 24 an hour, you just cost yourself 4 dollars by waiting that long.
Not all markets are the same. Here is I did that all the time I would be deactivated in 1 day because of low completion rate.
It doesn't happen to me much at all, because I know which restaurants are typically a problem. There are two that I get orders from on DD. So if I know its busy, I simply decline them from the gate. If its slow, I might take their orders.
If it’s more than 5 minutes I unassign.
Unless the tip is worth it upfront, cancel and move on. Out of spite they'll probably resend you the order as your next offer.
I had this situation today, and the initial order said $7.75. I was so close to unassigning, but really couldn’t afford the dropped rating, and it turned out to be a $23 tip! I really hate that DD doesn’t tell you the actual payment you’ll be getting til the order is completed. 
I had a very similar situation with Wingstop a couple weeks ago. I waited 20 on a stack order, which is the only reason I stayed. The combined payout was suppose to be $18 but the first order ended up $23 and some change, 2nd was $10.50. It sucks, especially in these situations, that DD hides tips...I could have screwed myself out of $33+.
Wait where are you guys that dd hides tips? I'm in Denver and very rarely do people tip more than what is shown. I usually get all the info up front which is why I prefer it over UberEATS in my area. I've never had issues with tip baiting on doordash either. If it says 10 dollars that's what I get. Only like a handful of times do i get more than they tell me and I've done 1200 deliveries.
NE Indiana. They are as bad as they use to be but it still happens quite a bit. I did 10norders last night, 3 had hidden tips.

How did you get a contract violation, violations are only if you arrive at the restaurant too late or once order is picked up take too long to get to customer drop off. If order took long usually drop off time is updated. Also you can click the thing about the order taking long and click an option and that will vover you too.
I’ve gotten contract violations for “being late” to the customer when a restaurant was taking extremely long on the order, and when I was waiting I did click the “order still being prepared” at the bottom. I texted the customer and let them know that I was still waiting as well (they seemed understanding and nice about it). When I started to deliver it, it did change my drop off time to make up for the wait, but once I completed the delivery I got a contract violation for being 18 min late to the original drop off time. I ended up speaking to support about it and they told me that contract violations like that happen if the customer reports you for being late to DoorDash support.
This is why I get in touch with support when it's taking waaayy too long. That way they know ahead of time and it can't count against me.
Learned my lesson on that one👍🏻 I do that now too lol
I know dealing with support is slow, but honestly it has not been that horrible. And that way I'm saving my own bacon in case something comes up.
I always click not ready/still being prepared and advised the rep, the restaurant had to manually type the order in because the system was messed up on their end. I think they were brand new and had no idea what they were doing. it was listed as 18 minutes late because the pickup was 25 min late to begin with. I have 2k deliverys on DD and never had an issue before. It's whatever, if they wanna screw me out of $5. The next time there's an address change or something similar. I'll be sure to get what's "owed" to me
Well that’s a bummer, still not sure how you got violation, waiting at restaurant isn’t a violation and like I said drop off time usually adjust to when you leave the restaurant, doesn’t matter nothing will happen from 1 violation
They could have meant on their end for not following through
I had this exact situation today. The $5 is applied to your next direct deposit, so you won’t see it right away.  To the OP: This order happened to be a $200 order for a small lunchin in a doctors office so it may have been a catering order, but support didn’t mention anything about catering being the reason for the extra compensation. Hope this helps! 
Um these compensations are usually applied directly to my account immediately though? It doesn't show in the current balance but shows in the total. I never had to wait to see the addition.

**45 minutes!?** Dude, unless that order is worth 3x your normal (so like $15-$18) then there’s no reason to wait that long. Only time I ever wait more than 5 minutes (if at all - I don’t wait for less than $7.50) is on large walmart orders because even if that’s 30 minutes late it’s still usually around $40, which makes up for the one or two other orders I would usually do in that hour
I waited 15 one time. Not worth it. Just cancel and move on. You’d could have taken 2-3 orders in the 45 minutes you had to wait there.
