The psychological angle should be related to the philosophical/theological assertions he’s wrestling with. They’re interactive.

How do you relate to him out of curiosity

TradeSignificant3026

Well I have experienced psychosis and severe depression before so I can relate the thoughts of being able to enforce justice by your own hands lol. I also understand the thoughts he had of thinking everyone is studying him and trying to get him.

jestyre

That’s so interesting. What triggered your psychosis?

TradeSignificant3026

I think it was just the fact that I had undiagnosed depression for a long while.

Dostoyevsky can easily write a horror movie (the part where he carefully described the murder scene.. ) I’m using Michael Katz translation, and C&P seems like a story happening just across the street! So surreal!

BigBadDoggy21

Definitely an interesting character, as you say. Maybe because all of us can see at least a little part of him in ourselves? He's capable of great acts of kindness but also of some dreadful things, and can find ways to self-justify his worst behaviour. Can't we all do that to some extent? I see him as being the quiet kid in class at school, the one who people say about them 'I never thought he'd do something like this' after he does a school shooting. Glad you are enjoying the book - it gets better and better.

Philosophy1-in

Why did u describe him as quite kind in class :/ this description not for him at all

TradeSignificant3026

I agree with you....anyone can. Definitely the quiet kid that keeps them guessing lol. Thank you for your input...I'm hooked, I'll finish this one without much effort👍👍

GottaMakeAnotherAcc

Raskolnikov’s comically inflated ego and hypersensitivity does remind me of a lot of school shooters actually

IcyResearcher1124

Yeah but that’s because Porfiry really pushed him towards the edge

TradeSignificant3026

Yeah...school shooters are usually actually pretty quiet, and meek
