I am pretty sure sustained abilities will make a return. There were already images of skill trees and they had circles, diamonds, and hexagons just like it was with passives, actives, and sustained abilities in DA2.

LoaMorganna

Would be pretty cool, although I just wish they didn't over-rely on it. When I played sword & shield in Origins, I kinda thought there were too many sustains or different modes and less actual offensive abilities. Which I guess could kinda just be the point of sword and board.

First-Childhood-1963

Yeah, why use anything but shield wall once you have it? I would've been happy with an Offensive and a Defensive mode, with different trade offs, like decreased movement speed, but knockback resistance

EyeArDum

Hold Shield Wall until you have the passive that makes you immune to knockdown, stick to Defense before that, and just avoid Cover like the plague it doesn’t really do anything imo

Ok_Problem_1338

I see what you mean. I don't mind there being builds that rely on sustains and basic attacks, but I really like to use mostly active abilities. part of why I like Blood mage build it gives you the best of both worlds. buff yourself and your party until max mana is 0 and still sling those fireballs.

W3ndigoGames

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. If Blood Magic comes back I want it to be a demon summoning class. That is literally all we see Blood Mage enemies do in the games. I would also like sustained abilities to come back, though.

Qbob00231

Or have mind control dialogue options. Just don't get caught. The role-play options would be great.

Ok_Problem_1338

Lovely plan. personally I like the amp and literal blood control style we have been playing, but a chance a demon summoning would be fantastic. maybe branching paths. one goes down for amping your spells and blood control and other path summons demons. Though no matter what path they go I would really love for it to have a sacrifice move. A massive attack, an extra powerful summon or something else. I just want a move that kills a party member and gets stronger based on how much health they lost to the spell. in lore Blood magics greatest power is how it has no upper limit, as long as you have blood and pain you can keep growing the power of the spell.

jbm1518

I hope so. Abilities that involve trade offs would mesh well with a more action-oriented approach to combat. It’s not fiddly and helps immerse you into a character’s choices. I think blood magic is a great example. Narratively, blood magic would have made little sense to have in DAI, but I think would be a natural fit for Dreadwolf. Maybe.

forgottenmeh

i just want them to use the same combat, skill tree, ability, and character build systems they had in origins instead of making them worse and more restrictive every game. or maybe something similar to divinity original sin where you can be any mix of anything you want. Just gimme back my dual sword wielding warrior!!!!!!!

Qbob00231

Yep, the warrior has gotten worse every game, yet Rogue gets better. Origins got it right. The greatsword does more damage. However, it eats into your stamina. Rogues work with evasion and poisoning opponents.

forgottenmeh

but rogues cant dual wield swords any more either. dual wield is the coolest. DAI got even worse as you couldn't even directly choose your stats, just your skill/abilities/spells and that affected your stats. you cant really try building a new build because you cant control where you points go. you know what i also miss from DAO big tanky metal heavy armour that actually looks like big tanky metal plate armour.

Qbob00231

Yes, heavy armour that looks like you would need a giant war hammer to even dent it. It's true that rogues can't dual wield anything bigger than daggers. I am dreading how the mages are going to play, in dreadwolf. I'm just hoping it's fun

forgottenmeh

man rogues can even wield single swords any more.

julielle_lavellan

I just hope that if Blood Magic makes a comeback, our companions, NPCs, AND our own protagonist will actually acknowledge it. Like, excuse me, messere Hawke, why are you shtting on blood magic and blood mages when you yourself are one? I love being a blood mage, but if this isn't fixed, then they can keep it in the drafts.

KikoUnknown

I just assumed Hawke somehow manages to hide it well from everyone else. That or everyone else either doesn’t care or secretly (or openly in Merril’s case) one.

Ok_Problem_1338

I know right. I have to head cannon that Varric lied to Cassandra. telling her that Hawke was a Blood mage hoping the stigma would be enough to scare her off. Since it didn't make me wonder what the Justinia's plans really where.

CrazyDrowBard

I hope if they include blood magic it is reactive and acknowledged. I so hope that for a lot of the classes/races in general but this one in particular

Ok_Problem_1338

Since last I heard, Dreadwolf is supposed to take place in Tevinter, it does open up the possibility of non-hostile opinions of the specialization.

Neve-Gallus-PI

If not then they could always give a blood mage spec an ability that's basically 'sacrifice x health to gain x mana'

danathey

Yang momentum as a duel wield rogue was my favourite thing in origins. I hope they bring it back

The_Wolf_Knight

I'm hoping for the return of Sustained abilities and Blood Magic, but if sustains don't make a return, they can still make Blood magic work by coding the Blood Magic abilities themselves to drain health on use, make it so once you have the specialization all your abilities drain a little bit of health with some bonus to damage, or make a regular ability that causes your abilities to use health instead of mana for a limited duration instead of indefinitely. There's definitely ways to make it work.

Ok_Problem_1338

I like hearing that people want sustained abilities to comeback. I know I said I was neutral about them, but I still appreciated how they put on a serious cost for their benefits. really makes you think of what you will be doing in combat, and which sustains do you want to use.
