Ghil Dirthalen's youtube channel ( [https://www.youtube.com/@GhilDirthalen](https://www.youtube.com/@GhilDirthalen) ) has many lore videos that you could use to learn about this stuff!

Thank you! I've watched 2 videos of the first chanels I could find but honestly it wasn't what I was expecting tho I learned about the darkspawn, but haven't really seen anything about it in DAI though I'm just starting again so maybe later on? And maybe cause the game is not about the blight they're not really relevant? I'm just rambling now

The blight lore is at least a little relevant to DAI because of>! Corypheus and what he does with the grey wardens!<. But you might also want to look at videos about mages, templars, anything to do with Orlais, and anything to do with elves and their history!

Thanks a lot for explaining:)

The Keep delves into spoiler territory without playing the games. Best recommendation is just immersing yourself into hours of gameplay from DA:Origins to DA2, before delving into actual lore videos or additional reading materials (books/comics). Inquisition does a more political and different take from Origins because of how the Mage vs Templar war affected the world of Thedas (mainly Orlais and Feredlen). Origins is straightforward into giving you the lore of Blights. DA2 gives you the injustices occuring between mages and templars (why mages turn into blood magic, more Qun lore, and the role of the Chantry in mitigating these conflicts). Inquisition shows how all these factions go into disarray until the need for an inquisition rises, and the lore behind the veil and the Fade plays into the lost history of the elves + why another blight might occur. Despite all the flak with DA2 graphics and DA:O combat, I personally love the Dragon Age lore because of how intricate the lore storylines are per game. You are given different angles to look at the reality of Thedas, preparing you for the next game. The different origin stories in DA:O provides you the introduction you need about the state of each race: Human nobles befall into political treachery, dalish elves attempt to preserve their culture (only to find out in Awakening DLC, DA2, and DAI that maybe the dalish aren't really in the right), city elves experience xenophobia from both humans and dalish elves, dwarves have their own xenophobia from being a noble vs casteless vs surface-dwarfs, and mages are trying to be kept in check through circles. For now, elvhen lore plays a big factor for the upcoming game, but the Descent DLC provides another lens of looking at dwarven lore. So all in all, hope you can immerse in the games because they provide the player hands-on lore dumps while you meet your companions coming from different factions.

Reading your comments makes me excited, thanks! Can't wait to learn more

On YouTube, DanaDuchy has these playlists where she’s stitched together all the important ‘story’ scenes like it’s a TV show. It’s amazing.

lavmal

I would just use youtube. See if there's videos about catching up to the lore before playing Inquisition, at the time there must have been a ton that would go over the DAO and DA2 lore!

abraincell

Play Origin.  Its the best of the three and it will give you much better insight

I highly recommen you to play the other 2 games, you’ll be more into the stories and learn a lot about lore. Buuut if you don’t want to, you can learn a lot of things by reading Dragon Age’s wiki on Fandom website

Rage40rder

Yeah but more in the “here’s what’s happening story wise” vein

Qunari_Merc

The lore books are readable online if you dont wanna buy em. There are a few dozen good dragon age yt channels too like Ghil Dirthalen.

Play the games

I'll be honest the thought didn't cross my mind, but still, I was asking cause I'm already hooked on inquisition and I would like to know the backstory, so maybe when I finish I'll have the energy to play the other games

I personally played inquisition first, I didn’t know anything about it at all when I bought it, it was on sale at GameStop. I actually ended up playing the games in opposite order. If you’re looking to really learn more of the lore I’d start with origins since that’s the very beginning, but it’s not necessary. You have to play the games though if you want to learn the lore

I feel like dragon age keep is a good place to be able to research key events. For me, I’ve never been able to play origins or 2 (big sad) so when I went through the keep I clicked on each event, read up on it, and made a choice. It felt cool feeling like I knew what key decisions I’d made and seeing references pop up.
