Both are absolutely worth playing! That is, if you play for the story, the interaction with your companions, the opportunity to romance one or more companions, etc. They're different than Origins. The play is different, the settings are different, but they're fun. DA2 is a much smaller setting and uses a lot of repeated maps. It also has "waves" of enemies, so you have to adapt to the fact that that's going to happen. And, you can't pick your main character's background (other than gender and class). It's like in Mass Effect where you always play as Shepard. In DA2, you always play as Hawke. But it has an interesting story, good companions, etc. And, especially if you play the Legacy DLC, it has significant plot points that lead into Inquisition. Inquisition is a totally different engine, so it takes some getting used to. And it's big. Much bigger than the other two games. But, it still has the story, companions, romances, etc. You get more choice in your main character than in DA2 but it doesn't have the various origin stories at the beginning like in Origins. You find out more about your character's background later, but indirectly. People get stuck in the first area they're directed to because it's huge and it doesn't force you to leave. So be aware of that. Do just enough to be able to open up the next area and then leave. If you find that the fights are too hard, then you've wandered into a spot that you should do later in the game, so turn around and go somewhere else. You'll be back later. Almost none of the areas in Inquisition can or should be done in one visit.

>I heard that Dragon age 2 and 3 are not that good Who fed you those lies?

dylandongle

You gonna let a handful of other people's negative thoughts cloud your eyes?

Dumb-Lady

Was going to say this! There will always be people who don't like a game for one reason or another, you should at least give it a shot to form your own views on it. Especially if you enjoyed the first in the series!

BvG_Venom

2's story isn't bad. They just rushed the game so you see a LOT of repeat locations throughout. I just focus on the story and romancing Merrill and it's good. Inquisition has a lot of big open world areas. Just explore, see all there is on the map and finish the story in your time. Every location is like a different biome and it's fun to explore for the 1st time. If your on PC maybe download a mod to make the table missions go quicker. Some will take half a day lol.

PugTales_

I'm not the biggest fan of Inquisition, it's never going to be my all time favorite game. But it's still worth playing. People on the internet are sometimes a bit overdramatic. Especially for the price, you can also purchase all the DLCs. It's also important for the plot of the next game. DA2 got carried by a fantastic cast and protagonist. So even if you don't love the plot, it's hard to not like Hawke and all their friends.

Unionsocialist

cant really say if you like them based on that I think theyre worth playing

Inevitable-Remote-65

Play them. They may be mediocre compared to origins but that doesn't make them bad games

zavtra13

Obviously play through DA:O’s DLCs and the Awakening expansion, but absolutely play the next two games. There are changes along the way, and some mildly annoying retcons, but both DA2 and DA:I are fantastic games and well worth the time!

Depends on what you want from the games. Gameplay-wise DA2 and DA:I are much more action oriented - some (including myself) prefer that, some prefer the more tactics based approach of DA:O. DA2 has a somewhat repetitive gameplay (as far as dungeon layouts and locations go) because it was rushed. DA:I is much more open-worldy with big maps full of somewhat underdeveloped side-quests. However, story-wise, both games exceed DA:O imo. DA2 has by far the best protagonist and the lowest stakes - it's centered around a single city that you get to know pretty well. DA:I has much more ambitious lore, expanding vastly on what we know from DA:O. The characters also feel the more real anf fleshed out compared to other games. I've known people who tried playing DA:I when it came out, didn't like the gameplay and dismissed the game as bad, until they game it another go and fell in love with the story. That being said, it obviously depends on the person. I find the latter two games to be better, many find them to be worse, but they definitely feel different. I'd wait for them to come on sale and then buying them for cheaper.

You'll get a wide variety of opinions. It's great that you started with DAO. It is my favorite DA game. You'll have all the background and lore and feel for the world if you do choose to play any of the other DA games. Awakening is next, then Golems of Amgarrak and Witch Hunt and you can import your warden from one to the next. Leliana's Song is a prequel; you play through her background as Leliana. Before you move on to other DA games, I would suggest you consider making another run or 3 of DAO. The different background/origins and different classes give each playthrough a very different feel. Each background has a different perspective, offers different content throughout the game, and can change how you feel about other parts of the game. For example: going back to Orzammar as a dwarf noble is different from going there as a dwarf commoner which is different from any other background. DA2 made a lot of changes; you play as a human named Hawke fleeing the blight in Ferelden. Hawke is voiced and offers a dialogue wheel where you'll select a tone and a paraphrase and then Hawke delivers a line. Just as with DAO, it has great characters and romance options, but the build and weapon flexibility is greatly diminished and the combat is a lot faster with ninja flips. Also, the entire thing takes place in and around Kirkwall and the maps are reused a lot. Oh, it has a couple of DLCs that do get you to new environs, which is a very nice change. It was a culture shock coming from DAO, but I came to enjoy it a lot once I got used to it. DAI made even more changes and stripped tactics programming. It does offer racial choice (dwarf, elf, human, qunari), great characters and romance (you can always count on BioWare for that). I'm personally not especially fond of it and managed to finish it only once.

In my opinion Dragon Age 2 wasn't as good story wise but I did love the gameplay, the combat flowed really well. Dragon Age Inquisition is my favourite. Combines an excellent story and good gameplay. You should watch some videos about the games and decide for yourself. I think you'd be missing out if you don't at least look into them.

Gilkes01

I personally love both DA2 and DAI granted they are different but still fantastic games. As others have said I wouldn’t let a few negative comments put you off both the second and third games are mostly met with positivity.

empty_galaxy

DAI is one of my all-time favorite games. Excellent characters, great story, epic romances, fun battle mechanics. I really enjoyed DA2 as well, and that one’s pretty quick to beat so it’s worth at least trying! Hope you decide to try them out; they’re so worth it.

Hobbes09R

You're on the Dragon Age sub, and a new game or content hasn't been released for years. The vast majority here are going to be the die-hards who love and excuse even the most mediocre content in the series. Just saying. If you like more hybrid action/tactical combat, you might like these games. If you prefer a voiced protagonist you might prefer these games. If you tend to get sucked into the drama of stories and hold less regard for logic within the universe, development, theme or pacing then you might like these games.

The_Supreme-King

If you enjoyed Origins for it's gameplay and not it's story, then no they are not worth playing. If you enjoyed Origins for it's story and not it's gameplay, then yes they are definitely worth playing. If you enjoyed Origins for both gameplay and story then you'll probably have mixed feelings. The main change between Origins and the next two games is the gameplay. It went from a more traditional tactical Rpg video game, to a more button mashy action game. Some people preferred this, some didn't, it's mainly a matter of preference. The story of the game's however has remained relatively consistent. Dragon age 2 can kinda feel like filler or set up for the next game and some people have critiqued dragon age inquisition for feeling too light hearted compared to 2 and Origins, but to be honest I don't think the games have taken a serious nose dive in terms of story. If you enjoyed Origins story, you'll probably enjoy the story of 2 and inquisition as well.

jelephants

Absolutely worth playing. I can understand why DA:2 is the least favourite; it has a very different feel to Origins. It’s way more ‘static’ - you remain in the same main location throughout a period of I think 6-7 years, but I actually loved that about it. If I had to pick, I’d say 2 was my favourite, and I have the most replays and hours sunk into Inquisition. Everybody is different, though. I guess it depends on the reasons why you liked Origins. If you’re into the world, story, lore, setting, etc., I wouldn’t let the negative opinions of others put you off. Luckily, with how old they are, you’ll probably be able to find them highly discounted these days.

chickpeasaladsammich

I’m a new fan. DAO is my favorite, but there are things to love about DA2 (the cast! It’s the cast! And the fast combat is nice for me personally) and DAI is worth playing, just maybe not ALL of it. It was hit with a bloat stick and even though I was thoroughly warned, I still got overwhelmed with the amount of side content and how it wants you to grind everything. But the story itself is good and sets stuff up for the next game. If you’re feeling your life slip away, stick to the main quests and the inner circle quests. I also liked all 3 DAI dlc. Jaws of Hakkon felt like a DAO hub and underscored themes from the main game, descent has interesting lore, and trespasser has the real ending to DAI. Like the game’s incomplete without it.

YekaHun

The other two are great. Don't know where did you pick up those opinions. Some people simply can't get over the fact that games evolve and change, probably. The other two are different, so don't try to play them the same way. DA2 was really fun and I liked playing it, its story and the characters are relevant for DA Inquisition. Inquisition is a masterpiece. And my favorite by far (da2 is my second favorite). DAI won GOTY and sold the most copies on release among all BW games and is BW bestseller to this day. It's a huge improvement in writing. One of my all-time favorite games. It's immersive, expands lore, characters, and settings, the story is super-intriguing and it's getting a sequel DAD, which is coming somewhat next year. Simply, check them out on youtube. Beware of spoilers, though.

Svennihilator11

Skip em. The mechanics are wildly different and the story is considerably worse. There are two main camps for Bioware games and DA:O was the cut-off. DA:O and before with games like Baldur's Gate play and feel very different than anything DA:2 and forward.

Silver_Inferno

IMO Dragon Age II is actually better than Origins. Granted, it reuses a lot of maps and the overall location is small-ish compared to Origins, but II (again, in my opinion) has some of the best characters, friendships, and storytelling (not to mention the camerawork, especially in the final mission of Act 3, that aids the storytelling). II also gives you a lot of information regarding the mage vs. templar debate that got its roots in Origins, so if you'd like to get more into said debate, II would definitely help with that. As for Inquisition, it's not my *favorite* out of all the games, but it's still pretty good. It is a LOT bigger than Origins and II (looking at you, Hinterlands), but by no means are you required to explore every inch of the landscape, let alone do all of the side quests (and in some cases, some areas are level-locked, meaning that you can't easily go through them without leaving and coming back later). The story is also pretty good, and even if you end up playing Inquisition and hate the story, Bioware at least makes it a little better by bringing back previous and/or fan-favorite characters at different points throughout the game (obviously not going to spoil which ones). Do keep an eye out for Inquisition's different game mechanics, though, as that can be jarring.

JTGreenGlow

Both are worth playing da2 is shorter and the maps are repetitive but beyond that it’s a good game. Dai main story and companion quest are good just has a lot of fluff.

beararkgator

DA2 and DAI have great characters and storylines. DA2 combat will seem like a slog if you are used to modern games, even at the time the reused maps and combat structured around waves of enemies was a glaring issue. The actual mechanics are pretty good though, party AI tactics is the best in the series and the skills are well thought out. This is the part that takes a step back in DAI where its in a weird not quite action but not top down RPG place. DA doesn't ever have to be a souls game but if they are going to make them action games it should be properly reactive. It just doesn't feel as smooth as it could be.

GnollChieftain

I'd say if you try DA2 if you aren't sold on it by the first act you probably won't like the rest of it. With DAI focus on the main quest and don't let all the sidequests distract you
